The camshaft in the pump , pushes on the pistons up , a spring bring that piston back down . the only issue is that on a pump that has been sitting too long , the piston goes up but not back down . the fix is with the help of some atf , to push by hand the piston back down , now the pump will work .that used to be a commen problem .
BTW, is the cabrio a 220SEb or a 250SEb? I was doing a bit of online digging at W111 parts dealers, and they seem to refer to the cabrio as either 250SEb or 280SEb. 220SEb seems to have been mostly the saloons.....🤔
greetings from a mercedes benz mecanic from belgium ..i had the same car ..what timing did you set the engine before you put the pump back on ? it smokes pretty hard ...and on that 2 stempel bosch pump are no injectors but plunjers ...keep up the good work........ never try to adjust that spinning bolt on the back of the pump with the engine running !!!

Sorry missed this, it’s a 220 seb,, it’s the only option for 1963 as far as I have found out
