    You are excellent. I watch both, your timing and fuel injection videos. I am still troubleshooting though. My car is a 1970 280SL with the M130 fuel injected engine, 4 speed. I know it is hard to diagnose a problem without the car in front of you but please give me maybe some direction. The car starts fast and idles fine. But will not come up off idle without stalling. It has a strong idle… So strong I can creep along in 3rd gear or even reverse. But it will not speed up off of idle? So you know, I drained and replaced the fuel just to be sure didn’t get a tank of contaminated gas. Replaced the fuel pump, all rear fuel hoses, and fuel filter up front near the engine injection pump. I even added an extra see-through line filter coming from the gas tank to see and catch any possible rust particles. Fuel is clean. I eliminated any possible fuel starvation problems from the rear of the car. So you know the car was running fine in traffic when started to just lose power. Slowly in about a minute it dropped to the idle it has now. I looked at the plugs and os running a bit rich, but of course has spark. The spark looked weak and coil looked awful, so I thought maybe when firing faster it could be shorting inside. Replaced coil. That wasn’t it. I’m thinking now it could be the whole fuel injection unit which is so expensive to send out for rebuild ($2600) that I shun to think to shotgun in replacing that.
    Can you please tell me if you have come up on anything like this before? A car that won’t come up from idle? If the fuel pump was bad how can it run at all? Wouldn’t it misfire or shake from a cylinder not firing at idle? Injectors seem good. I just can’t understand how it could be getting fuel, air, and spark smoothly at only idle. It will not come up at all past 750 RPM. Also know that I completely checked all the pushrod linkages. They are fine without worn play anywhere. The slightest movement on the injection pump throttle lever moves the air intake valve to start opening at the intake. Please tell me your thoughts. You should know you are the most knowledgeable person and an excellent instructor too on explaining my car. Thank you. So you know I’m not a rich man. No collector here so any non-standard fix or unusual tests would be fine. I hope you will share your thoughts…. The steps as to what you would check next and then move to will really help me. It’s beating me up.
    Thank you for your fine videos, and hopefully responding to me now. Placed in my thumbs up already.

      Check the fuel pressure coming from the electric fuel pump, check it at the starting valve, should have around 11 psi 15 psi.

      I believe it’s spring loaded, so you want the pump to do a few revolutions so the spring can settle before you adjust it again. You don’t want to put any tension on that spring, everything in there is very gentle and can only be moved a little bit at a time

      @@ProblemSolverGarage I’ve got an r20y pump out of the car currently using a borrowed one to try and get a 1969 parts car engine to run. I can’t recall if I twisted it more than 3 turns. Cyl 4 also won’t spray the injector but will flow with no pressure. The check valve looked ok when I pulled it out, but I didn’t swap it to test it. I want to verify this engine before scrapping the car, but am ready to throw in the towel. I’ve got a 67 250se 4-speed in the garage to work on and a POS parts car to learn on in the driveway. I adjusted the knob to the left every 3 clicks until 24 and unfortunately there is still acrid smoke, in addition high speed (1200 rpm), I will add that the pump was turned to the right to the max, now it is 10 to the left from the resistance,

    Thank you for the good video, this is pretty much what I needed as I'm adjusitng my M130! Purely wondering, but isn't it possible to set the mixture based on engine RPM? It seems like it's possible to adjust fuel mixture at low, medium and high revs, but I'm not totally sure if I understand the methods used for this. My engine seems to run fine at low revs and at high revs, but runs just a little lean at medium revs. Thank you!

      What do you mean by lower revs ? Medium revs? High revs? What RPM ranges

    • @JackpodyDK
      @JackpodyDK 3 года назад

      @@ProblemSolverGarage I was told that the injection pump can be adjusted to three different RPM ranges, meaning a fuel adjustment for low, medium and high revs. Say different adjustments for under 1200 rpm, then next adjustment for around 2500 rpm and the last for around >4000 rpm.

    • @ProblemSolverGarage
      @ProblemSolverGarage  3 года назад

      @@JackpodyDK Yes that is correct but my video doesn’t cover the two higher RPM adjustments, those should never be touched. The only time you would ever have to touch those is if somebody touched them before. Usually people never do because it involves deeply going into the fuel injection pump, I mentioned this in the video. Also in the middle RPMs those engines don’t have much power so you might be thinking it’s hesitating but that’s just the way it is, also check your timing, make sure your mechanical timing advance is working the spring one inside the distributor, not just the vacuum one, sometimes those springs break, this can be checked with a timing gun.

      @@ProblemSolverGarage Thank you for the response! I've had the MFI pump rebuilt, so I think it just needs some final adjustments. Thank you for the video!

    Excellent video. I have a 1962 Adneaur W109. Pretty close to some setup. How I have an issue that I perceive is heat related. After fresh rebuild on the injector pump fuel pump and injectors. The car was running great around town. However went on a highway run for about 35miles about halfway I felt a couple skips. The problem got worse esp uphill. Pulled over to peak under the hood and as soon as I let ramp to idle it completely died. Would even attempt to start which it always did fire right up. Towed home next morning ice cold it started right up. But seems to do the high idle then retract to about 800. Any thoughts?

      What spark plugs are you running?

    • @ProblemSolverGarage
      @ProblemSolverGarage  Год назад +1

      go one heat rating lower on your spark plugs and also do not use resistor spark plugs.
      What’s happening is your cylinders are getting hot inside to the point where the gas evaporates before it can ignite.
      None resistor spark plugs have a better spark and you need to lower the heat rating of the spark plug to keep the temperature of the cylinder colder. Let me know if that fixed your problem

    • @ProblemSolverGarage
      @ProblemSolverGarage  Год назад +1

      You need a old-school Bosch spark plug, old original stock. If you can’t find it you need to go with a regular none resistor spark plug.
      The cross references don’t work for these old cars, you usually need to go One heat rating lower than what the Internet is saying, the cross references at the stores are incorrect, even Mercedes dealership is having this problem. Do some research, I do not have the book for this engine so I don’t know what spark plug goes in there but nothing new and fancy like what you got.
      I’m guessing the problem started after you install the new spark plugs.
      I had The same problem years ago

      Sorry.
      What I meant was that when starting the car it idles at around 800 cold.
      When it warms up it drops to 500 and eventually dies.
      Funny thing is that it is running rich it seems.
      Adjusting the click wheel at the back and the idle spring valve I can't get the idle above 500 warm.
      I think it is running rich because if I open throttle with linkage disconnected from injection pump it revs to 2500 very smoothly so must have excess gas but not enough air?
      Just noted today the barometric valve has a thick washer on it.
      This was a colorado car that has stood for a while.
      Now in UK with me.

      The manual clearly says not to exceed three clicks without restarting the motor.
      Makes sense to me, You’re moving a loaded spring, starting the motor takes the tension off of it and re-positions everything inside, also you don’t want to get to a point where the engine won’t start then you won’t know in which direction to turn things. But thanks for watching, And I appreciate any input
