  • Unique footage! Michael Schumacher back in early 1996, testing for Ferrari.
    One of the first tests with Ferrari, and here on Paul Ricard he is also presented as the new Ferrari driver to the press.
    He's testing the 412T2 with the new V10 and the older 412T1B with the mighty V12.
    Footage is from Eurosport with Dutch commentary. I do not own this video material. And I make no money of this video. Historical purpose only, #KeepFightingMichael
    And get well Michael!
    Footage of Eddie Irvine testing with the 412T2 with V10 engine:

      @marcusaureliusantoninusaug2161 4 года назад +20

      Yeah, the F310 really was a complete failure. A brand new engine that had many many issues in it's first 3 years basically, a new gearbox concept that didn't really work until 97, completely messed up aerodynamics (cockpit sides, airbox, sidepods, engine cover) it was basically a truck in terms of aero, the only good thing about the F310 was the mechanical grip. The suspension setup and weight distribution were nice, other than that a complete failure. If it wasn't for Michael they'd have finished 5th in the constructor's championship that year, behind Williams, Benetton, McLaren and Jordan.
      The 412T2 on the other hand was a nice car. Michael said that he believed it was good enough to win the championship in 95.

      +KHAAAAAAAANNN Yes, they forget how much effort he hade made to achieve those results. It didn't come easy at all. To become successful with Ferrari is much more challenging, than to win with any other team. Did you know, that in his first year at Ferrari (1996), MS won more races (three ones) than the Ferrari drivers together (A. Prost, G. Berger, J. Alesi) in the previous 5 years (1991-1995 : 2 wins) ? Ferrari was absolutely down in 1996, but Michael made a Team out of Ferrari and he was able to understand what went wrong and developed the car over the next years to an absolute winning car and also developed the team with his absolutely unique input. Even Mercedes nowadays has to permit, that they would not have the results today without the developement from Michael. For me, there will never be a better driver and I really really wish, we see him again soon, what means, I really hope he will get well soon.

    According to John Barnard, after Michael drove both the V10 and V12 his feedback was he preferred the V12 because it had more engine braking and he could use this to maximise his corner entry speed… this was after Berger and Alesi spent the whole of 1995 telling Barnard the engine braking was too much and making the car unstable on corner entry. Meanwhile Berger and Alesi both crashed the 1995 Benetton in testing, describing it as ‘ugly’ to drive.
    Schumi had such a special talent.

    • @marcusaureliusantoninusaug2161
      @marcusaureliusantoninusaug2161 Год назад +1

      I agree, the 96 season tells the full story. Both Alesi and Berger, good drivers I might add, struggled mightily in the B196, despite having the same engine as Williams and an upgraded aero compared to the B195 that Michael won the championship with. They played absolutely no role in the championship. Michael on the other hand finished third in a Ferrari that had many struggles. I think he would have given Hill and Villeneuve a run for the money in the B196, had he stayed.

    • @Erthling
      @Erthling Год назад +2

      Although true, but I read an article a long time ago about Alesi testing the B195 and setting a faster time than Michael did (at whatever track that was... Spain?)
      However, as Alesi did cope better than Berger in the B195, but it was more suited to Michael anyways since he was with the team since 1991....

      Yes. The extra engine braking would cause a bit more rear instability when off throttle, (especially off throttle and under braking), which would allow for a faster rotation into the corner. Michael would also be able to manage that instability by combining throttle and brake inputs like he was known to do.

Senna don't want to accept to loose, for that died. Michael was became the his nightmare. He did indeed say that. The 95 Ferrari was quick though so it shouldn’t be a surprise, Alesi and Berger were both in contention for wins, the problem was it was incredibly unreliable. I think it would have suited Michaels driving style, it was quite tail happy. Pity he picked the V10 though. Apparently he said it had better drivability. It probably had better fuel economy too, lighter and two less cylinders to go wrong. I miss the 90s where you had V8s, V10s and V12s all racing together.

      Yes I believe Michael said he preferred the increased engine braking with the V12. The 412T2 was a good car and the Ferrari V12 was the most powerful engine in 1995 so I’m not surprised he said he could have won the championship in it, but he wouldn’t have though because it had an awful habit of breaking down! Michael could not choose between v12 and v10, in 1995 it was last year of v12, for regulation FIA that demanded that all the cars were equipped, or with v10, which mounted v8 (exceptions were honrrosas), I also begin of less the sound of the V12

    • @lorenzoabraham
      @lorenzoabraham 7 лет назад

      The FIA banned the use of engines in V12 for the sake of cost savings, a gravisímo error because later it was shown that it was economically the same as the V10 and V8 that later were the last atmospheres in F1 until 2013

      At the time, Ferrari was still considering continuing to use a V12. That's why Michael did comparative tests. To see which engine suited him better. The V12 engines were not banned until 2000. Ferrari was the only and last team to use them for a long time.

    I don't think the Ferrari 412 T2 had a V10, I think it had a V12... Or was it equipped with a V10 engine for pre-season testing in 1996??

      Mike Borgböhmer yes during the 1995 season it had a 3.0 litre V12. However for this test they mounted the prototype for their V10 that they ended up going with for 1996. The 412t1 in the video still has a V12 in it.
