very nice build! For myself, I will probably stick to already built boards because there is no way I could do build and make it come out as nice! But you did a really nice job! Thumbs up! Great building and great video!
I have two in my back garden, along with a safe which was here when we moved here, weighs a tonn (literally) and we cannot move it. The Anvils were for when my dad worked in a metal merchants. (one was his for work, and the other is pure gold as a leaving present)
dude you are my hero nice video loved your result i got 2 question how much did this project cost to make, and how long was the time process to make the board?
i like the idea of the screws in order to hold a shape for the board. was there a certain order that you had to apply the screws on like the star pattern on a car tire??
Been admiring this vid for a while, excellent technique would you mind if i asked what the height and width of the two boards you used to make the drilling platform for the concave?
My second board had wheelbite. I was cruising like 15 mph and made a slight turn, and went flying across the road. My whole side was fuckd up. Wheelbite is some dangerous shit.
the point of a drop thru is not to prevent wheelbite. Drops Thrus help with stability and riding on rougher pavement. Drop thrus get you closer to your wheels making wheelbite a bigger occurance.
Wheelbite is whenever the wheels of the board end up touching the deck of your board as you turn. It can make things really inconvenient and even dangerous when you're going fast enough.
hey, I was just confirming that painting over the fiberglass is completely okay? it wont eat away at it or anything, right? (sorry if this is a stupid question, I dont know about the fiberglass very much)
Maybe next time make the front and rear (around the trucks) a bit narrower? Would help with the wheelbite issues. But I'm sure you already figured that out.
Yes! I like the vid, because it's just a simple press, so everyone can do it that way.. not to fancy :) but I'm wondering what will happen if you do the whole board in fiberglass, and if you do it what will happen with the flex.
Not sure, so correct me if im wrong, but that wouldn't be possible, first you would need at least some sort of base, second fiberglass is just that glass and sanding that much glass would probably be a pain, let alone building up layers of resin and fiberglass. So based on my understanding the most realistic thing to a whole board would be fiber glass on top and bottom, two sheets of wood with fiberglass sandwiched between them (ive heard of this being done but dont know how).
otircam01 use your existing board as a mold, cover it with clear packing tape and start laying up cloth and resin. Use a fiberglass roller to get the air bubbles out, or vacuum bag it if you have the equipment. If you have aboard shape that you really, now you can use it to make another.
@Pkmartin03 you can, but you would have to make bigger cutouts (make the board thinner where the wheels/trucks are) so that the wheels don't rub on the board (wheelbite)
@lzroelchen12 well the press/clue part takes about 24h because it needs to dry well. fiber glass makes the deck a bit more stiffer and gives it nicer "bumb back". also its pretty good when doing board slides at pool :D it really can take a beating. how long the other parts will take... its up to you. spray paint dries like really fast. 2 work days and you can be on the hills.
i am trying to build one and im thinking about using 1/4 thick baltic birch, but i dont know how many sheets to use for the thickness, and also how long. can you help plz?
how did you know how big and what dimensions to make the holes for the drop through mount? I'm thinking about trying to make my first drop through and i have no idea how to make that hole aha
mitä liimaa käytit tossa? sama liima puu-puu-väleissä ja puu-kuitu-väleissä? ja levititkö kerroksen liimaa vielä viimesen kuitukerroksen päälle? nii miten teit noi reiät trukeille oikeen muotosiks ja kokosiks? :D kysymyksii riittää... viimeseks vielä: millä pintakäsittelit ton dekin?
@Drimbz Measure where the holes to attach the trucks to and measure, from the innermost part of the hole, 3 mm inward toward the center of the longboard and put a mark there. do this next to all the holes. then drag some lines between the dots and draw out how you want the large hole. then cut out with this drill and jigsaw and you have a drop-through design longboard! :) have fun making your board!
well 3 x 4mm plywood makes it 12mm and the glass fiber is like +1 mm... so something like 13mm over all. I saw the new lush kilima + holey + cult wheels setup and its pretty much in the same heavy weight gategory.
You can download a drop trough blueprint from randal trucks homepage... I printed that and then edited it a littel bit to be more fitt for hoyle trucks.
Thanks, your one of the few people that actually included the wood and dimensions! Thanks alot
very nice build! For myself, I will probably stick to already built boards because there is no way I could do build and make it come out as nice! But you did a really nice job! Thumbs up! Great building and great video!
This is great! I was looking of ways to press the board and you've made it a lot simpler for me. Great Video. Thanks!
that's beautiful, I like how there's still a little bit of wood grain showing :)
This project is a win for sure. Get some crazier designs going!
That's amazing on how you made that fabulous long board I wish I had a long board just like that I love it so much
don't give him trash he did something good and constructive and it turned out really cool.
gives the board flexibility with out breaking completely in half
I sure do love Longborads.
man thats the nicest home made one ive seen! keep it up
smart idea with the anvil when i make a board i park a bobcat on it over night an it works beautiful but a anvil much easier thanks for the idea

awsome board, seriosly
maybe, i'll try to make one, thanks to your video
damn thats a real gor way to make your concave...respect
hey man, what kind of wheels are those? also big props for your handmade longboard, its awesome
dude you are my hero nice video loved your result i got 2 question how much did this project cost to make, and how long was the time process to make the board?
Seeing measurments in metric feels really good, thank you)
But how does this length feel while cruising? And how tall are you, btw?
That's a great board! Good job! It looks like a pro board :)
i like the idea of the screws in order to hold a shape for the board. was there a certain order that you had to apply the screws on like the star pattern on a car tire??
Wow! So good! One question, if i can... what is your job??
Man, there are so many professional longboard designers commenting on this video!
Been admiring this vid for a while, excellent technique would you mind if i asked what the height and width of the two boards you used to make the drilling platform for the concave?

I used to have one of those lush kuni boards :D was awesomly flexie after i broke it in.
I wish I had a studio space like that...
wow nice man!!! what did you pay for the materials? without the trucks and wheels...
Saweet making homemade it way better than paying 200 and u can have any design you like homemade :D
Nice board dude keep it up :D
Really good job ! what tools did you use to widen the drop through ?
Wheelbite is whenever the wheels of the board end up touching the deck of your board as you turn. It can make things really inconvenient and even dangerous when you're going fast enough.
dude that would make some crazy wheelbite
Good work man looks sick
that was incredible
That's a real art.
very nice finished, how much did u spend in materials
nice board i think you did pretty good
good job dude . could you put some mor especifications fron the tipe of wood, the cut ,paint and that kind of stuff?.
Amazing work
looks very nice =)
you made it with a lot of love :-P
aww yeah, i am getting a clue to! I think my clue wants us to go this way...
thats so beast man, props
That's really sick bro.
good work, congratulations!
Great choice of music dude
hey, I was just confirming that painting over the fiberglass is completely okay? it wont eat away at it or anything, right? (sorry if this is a stupid question, I dont know about the fiberglass very much)
i think ebay has it but if you go to a hardware store in the automotive section it's like 6 bucks for 8 square feet and 5 bucks for the resin
Maybe next time make the front and rear (around the trucks) a bit narrower? Would help with the wheelbite issues. But I'm sure you already figured that out.
amazing job
that board is sick i think the only thing i would have changed is made the nose and tail thinner otherwise its spot on!!!
gosh! We salute you!
how many sheets of birch did you use? how thick were they to begin with and how thick is a good end product?
You should've shown how you made the drop through cut outs. That's always a challenge.
Looks sick!

that is one sexy prototype
cool board, but where do you can buy fiberglass?
@Pkmartin03 you can, but you would have to make bigger cutouts (make the board thinner where the wheels/trucks are) so that the wheels don't rub on the board (wheelbite)
Lowes or homedepot, get 1/4 inch and make sure it is long enough for your board
did you use fiber glass?
I wonder if it resists in case it's made without glass but 15-20 cm shorter,
@CharlieMusic001 well it depence how thik you want the board to be... and what kind of fabric you are using. 1-3 should do it.
Was the weights placed in the middle, so there's more concave in the middle, and less on the ends, or does it give an even concave all over?
really good video, nice
sick! im thinking about making me one now

Awesome man!
change those bearings bro
so easy to get wheel bite on that board. risers?!
how much did that cost alothogether to make the deck
?
like how much as the wood and fibreglass and did it take long >?
your fiberglass looks way different than the stuff i use.. what is is i kinda want to try it out
hi, me and my dad bought a 1/2 inch board of baltic birch, and we cut it to appropriate size, but we can't seem to bend it at all. how do you do this?
Nice board!

do you like the strips of fiberglass better than an actual woven sheet of it?
i am trying to build one and im thinking about using 1/4 thick baltic birch, but i dont know how many sheets to use for the thickness, and also how long. can you help plz?
They sell baltic birch. thats where i bought mine from and i made my board and it rides like a champ and it has flex.
Nice board man
how did you know how big and what dimensions to make the holes for the drop through mount? I'm thinking about trying to make my first drop through and i have no idea how to make that hole aha
looks nice, I wounder how it rides

did you wet the wood before doing the concave ? or how do you make it ? :S
well 3 x 4mm plywood makes it 12mm and the glass fiber is like +1 mm... so something like 13mm over all.
I saw the new lush kilima + holey + cult wheels setup and its pretty much in the same heavy weight gategory.
hey where did you get the fiberglass and how much was the baltic birch?
Why didn't you put the glass fiber in the middle of the wood layers?
Hey I was wondering what's the glass fiber for? I'm making a longboard and I need to know, thanks
Out of curiosity, what's the advantage of the fibreglass on the bottom?
Can you please tell me the wieght of this deck? Thank you! :)
You can download a drop trough blueprint from randal trucks homepage... I printed that and then edited it a littel bit to be more fitt for hoyle trucks.
grats for making it bro
can u use 7-ply maple wood and if so is fiberglass necesary?
Like the idea might make a mini longboard or shortboard
what finish did you put on at the end im right after the fiber glass stage of mine
Realy nice board dude ;p
I dont really understand how to press the concave? Did you just screw in the sides to the base plank?
That thing has no con cave it's just a plank of wood, what happened to the concave in the beginning?
Man two questions how thick is the board and what's the fiberglass for?
as said in the video. 3 x 4mm = 12mm and the fiberglass is for making it more durable and stiff. so maybe the final thickness is around 13mm
ya thats what i was thinking, ebay wouldnt have any would they?
i like mine a bit softer, but very nice board man!
nice and stiff? i have a landyachtz evo... i know stif when i see it
that thing is sleek as hell. all these haters talking shit. it's sad. keep it up dude, i'd buy one.
