The very best instructional video I've seen in a long time! It was so informative without being longwinded, and you obviously are a patient and skilled craftsman.
I come back to this video for my own personal nostalgia. The default music from the editing program is very soothing and I always wanted to make a board but was just too young and didn’t have the resources to do so. It’s nice to look back at this video every now and again
Wow! This is amazing!! The effort, the brilliance, how Bad Ass it turned out. Im going to try it now, just with a different method than a car for the press lol. Mad props!!
i liked the way u molded it it was very creative and i like the board and i like it how u didnt make it too wide like most of the other people do when the make a longboard
thats awesome man i just cut out a board of my own except i didnt glue the plys together i just got a half inch bit of 5 ply. im also gona paint mine then fibreglass it. great job dude
its held up really nicely actually the fiberglass doesnt really matter on this particular board cause i used three sheets, but if you only use two sheets then id add atleast a layer of fiber glass over top and bottom and maybe even two on bottom. if you want to to add a graphic, id put the graphic on the board before the fiberglass. it dries pretty clear so it would look really nice
Dude!!!! This video was really great=) i made my first long with my dad, based on this video. THX so much. My friends are asking me to make decks for them xD
Ha, plus I like the ending. Kinda reminds me of the new Clint Eastwood movies where he leaves the ending with the main character just going off in the distance as the credits roll, then the audience has some time to think about what just happened during the entire movie/video.
easily the best how to make a longboard video out there. just a few questions, what wood did you use for the board (i know you said baltic birch and something else)? how much did it all cost including the hardware? and how much weight can that hold/how flext was it for you?
dude great board i had my sector 9 for a couple of years and the pressure cracks are getting bigger and bigger didnt help that my friend ran it over lol but its fine but i know its going to die soon so im going to try and use canadian maple i heard that was really stronge and has a nice flex. thanks for the info man hopefully the board i make holds up
Supposed to use epoxy and make it thinner with a sheet or two of f.g. on the bottom to make it light, and flexy. (If you're in to that...) I gotta say, though, using the car was a good idea!
when you draw it up try using a bigger piece of paper and folding it in half the draw half the deck on the creace then cut it out so its actuall size when you unfold it:)) (i hope that makes scence)
@TheNonProgidy16 .... hey im making several longboards, i follewed everything he did but instead of using a car, get two tables or something close to it. and lay its two end and set weights in the center and make sure you put clamps to clamp the wood together and also use wood screws to press the wood. and put the screws an inch away from you drawing all around it. hope that helps.
No, he did give it concave. That's what the part with the car was for; as the glue was drying the weight of the car forced the wood to fit the shape of the mold he had made, and when the glue dried, the wood stayed in that shape. Plus the plywood you get at Loewe's or Home Depot or wherever has tons of non-wood fillers and therefore isn't strong or flexible enough. Also it looks like crap. I'd say he did a pretty nice job.
You can do either the top or bottom of the deck although, fiberglassing the bottom will help stiffen up the board much more than fiberglassing the top.
yeah actually it does have pretty good flex this was the first time i tried putting the fiberglass on the bottom. you could get away with just gluing two pieces together and then putting 2-3+ layers of fiberglass and have tons of flex and still be strong
Very nice job but I would invest in some actual longboard trucks, wheels and bearings only b/c you will go further and have more control over the board with wider wheels and trucks.
@finediner10 yes your going to want to do fiber glass on both top and bottom. Do two layers on the bottom one 45/45 and the other 90/0 direction. The top you can do one layer of 90/0. this will help with torsional flex and tensil. Also give you more pop. When lamenating the boards do them all together at once. If you want a little concave make a little press its easy to do.
id probably do about 3 or 4 cause the glue will add a lot of strangth if you smother it and then some fiberglass on the top and bottom or two layers on bottom. but really you only will need 3 id say
If you use one sheet it wont be able the curve them that well. How you see they get bend and glued this way. Holds perfectly. The fiberglass will make it more stiff and stable.
ABSOLUTLY FANTASTIC! I've longboarded for years and never had enough faith in myself to just make one. But I think I know what i'm doing when i get the time =) So i'm Curious how long did this project take you from start to finish?
Made a very good longboard (37 inches long and 8 inches wide and 3/4 inches thick) and it only took around 60$ Wood- Baltic Birch (35$ including shipping) Fiberglass Cloth and Resin- (26$ ) You just need to take your time and not rush on anything and always double check everything while your working and you'll get a great result.
well done bro, nice board. how long did it actually take you to build the whole thing? and how much did it cost? and is it worth making one, does it function the same way as a normal longboard, or should i buy one instead of making one?
The very best instructional video I've seen in a long time! It was so informative without being longwinded, and you obviously are a patient and skilled craftsman.

Nice idea with the car!
Excellent job!
That's a good way to make a board. The only problem is the way u did it there will be no concave.
nice idea to press it with a car! cool project
I'm going to do this and it's going to be awesome! Can't wait!!!
Dude!!!! This video was really great=) i made my first long with my dad, based on this video. THX so much.

Ha, plus I like the ending. Kinda reminds me of the new Clint Eastwood movies where he leaves the ending with the main character just going off in the distance as the credits roll, then the audience has some time to think about what just happened during the entire movie/video.

Amazing ! you should make a Longboard Company
Great video. U know u can just use regular 3/4 in plywood and it works about the same although theres no concave
