I enjoyed your video Van. All the time I was watching to see if my Cherokee would be fine on that trail.

Maybe. Some of those shelf’s were tall, especially that last one. A slightly longer wheelbase might’ve helped.

Great video. What tire size and lift did you have?

35” Nitto Ridge Graplers. Their noise and ride on the street has been outstanding. 35’s are the largest size one can do without changing the gearing. They are also mentioned by the factory as fitting without modification to the Rubicon wheel well clearance. Now that my 3 year factory warranty is done, I am considering 37’s when these wear out. However, doing that would mean modifying the gearing. When one starts doing stuff like that, other mechanical issues and suspension challenges must be dealt with. My Mopar lift is less radical and was installed about 2 years ago. I choose Mopar to keep the Jeep bumper-to-bumper warranty in effect. That kit is advertised as a 2” lift kit, but actually added right at 3” all around. With the type of wheeling I do, not sure whether I really need to go the the next level. Will face that question in the next year or two… Thanks for watching!

My earlier answer this thread to @Marty1911’s query answers that more fully… in short I currently run with 35’s & a “published” 2” Mopar lift (it’s really closer to 3” all around). A few of those shelf drop offs might’ve been slightly easier with a longer wheelbase 4-door. However I wouldn’t try those without some sort of stinger mounted in the hitch receiver, to protect the spare tire & the rear door tire mount. My stinger is a simple ball mount, turned “up” that extends the width of the spare tire. It has a few scrapes on it!

Not a real run of metal masher.....you forgot the widow maker.....
I have not run metal masher for a decade; however, it was not anywhere as mild as you show on the video. Sure you just didn't do part of it and then Gemini Bridges. That is actually Gemini Bridges trail you are on when overlooking Moab and Highway 191. You access Metal masher from Gemini Bridges trail, either via 191 or hwy 313.

Perhaps the signage has changed since you were there in 10 years ago? Earlier that day, we went to see Gemini Bridges (upper) just before entering Metal Masher. From GB we came back to the the MM trail entry and stopped at the MM trail entry sign (shown in the video). According to On-X & that sign, we were on MM from that point on. We did not take what On-X calls the “Easy Exit” just before the Widow Maker obstacle. However when the WM Bypass trail appeared, I stopped and we jointly decided it had been a long day. Arguing for that smarter option was that any issues on WM would likely mean a night on-the-trail. I do most trails solo so lean to the conservative side. That’s especially true when presented with a deserted trail and the sun getting low on the horizon. On seeing the D1847/D1858 cutover to the Easy Exit D1797, I elected for that because it appeared to be quicker. So on the way out we also missed Mother-In-Law Hill. Was it the full MM? No, but WM is on my bucket list for our next Moab visit. We did several other trails while in Moab, including the more popular/common ones. Given some time to put them together, I hope post those down-the-road. Thanks for watching!
