Flash Flood in Moab, Utah on 10/2/2022

- The road was impassable on 10/2/2022 at a few spots up Kane Creek, and many other areas around Moab. People were trapped up top, until this afternoon on October 3rd when the road was dug out. I captured the clearing of the road and the extraction of the jeep that was stuck up to it's headlights. Chris, the driver of the jeep, was able to drive away free and clear after being pulled out.

1:20 That's what narcissism looks like.
Great video, you showed a lot that others might have glossed over. You could see that by the end the water level had dropped a good bit. Flash flooding aint no joke!
Great to see the initially stuck Jeep complete the crossing after being pulled out. Hear that flash flood ran through the town too.
At least the trakter driver had a show from the yoga scank
It was not safe for her to be there though. She could've done it further back. The sheriff told her to get out of the way at one point.
Lol, agreed, some people feel like they have to do ludicrous things to get the attention they desire.
You guys want me to call a wambalance for ya’s Karen’s
Spellcheck🤣
Yeah she sort of pissed me off with her terrible display. I was hoping the loader would have splashed her good with some of that red mud.. But heck she may have wanted that too..
OMG...yoga people are so strange. That was hilarious to watch. Loved the sandwich throwing :)
I was just in moab 2 weeks ago at Ken's lake, then went back behind fauxfalls and hiked to some caves back there after we drove 4x4 to the back canyon . It started to sprinkle and we got a flash flood warning so we romped "A" outa there, lol. Beautiful place, I was on my way to flaming gorge and to visit a sister in Vernal. I am planning a trip back to Moab in late spring. May it stay as majestic as it was when I was there with my family. If only someone would make a Truck/SUV float on water for a time would be awesome like our military has the land water vehicles
Yep years ago my wife and I and four of our friends were four wheeling in Moab we sat for six hours on high ground till water went down so we could get out
lmao,,,"Matt's Off Road Recovery" to the Rescue👍🏼
I was so shocked when this video came up on my feed today. We were there that morning - and the guy at 5:08 throwing the sammies across to his friends gave us some excellent advice. We were so bummed when we rolled up and could not cross to get out to Chicken Corners. He was trying to get across to meet his friends for breakfast - funny to see him on this video bring them lunch in this video! That's a cool dude taking care of his buddies.
Was just at yellow cat road that loops back to Danish flats today with my old man. The yellow cat road that loops back around to Danish flats is completely washed out about 2/3 of the way back to Danish flats. Just a heads up for anyone taking that route!
Awesome job by the front end loader operator
The Hero of the Day!
Everyone telling the one guy that knows how to cross a water crossing "hit it" "you better go faster than that"... this is why you never listen to spectators or trust their advice. Always get out, inspect what your going to drive through personally and don't listen to douches on the bank who want damage to spectate and film
Wow! I'm pretty sure I crossed that creek crossing two days before the flash flood when we rented a UTV from Ultimate UTV Adventures in Moab and followed a young guide.
Yes you did. I went up the day before this with Moab Tour Company.
Flooding sucks but thanks for sharing this video. I live in the mountains of upstate NY where we got hit hard by hurricane Irene back jn 2011(20” of rain in two days). But going to Moab is on my bucket list. It’s about a 35 hour drive from my house.
Flooding is worse than drought idiot. These fools shouldn't have been there!
Now imagine if that amount ( or more ) fell in just one 24 hour period. It has happened here with 25 inches in 24 hours.
That looks like so much fun sitting here in my nice, dry, warm house eating a hot breakfast.
Better call in Matt's Offroad Recovery, or maybe Rory
Convicted fraudster Matt? Nope never Casey before criminal Matt
@@lutomson3496 WTF?
@@lutomson3496 Matt's Worlds Largest Off Road Wrecker...
That's not very big?
Matt clickbait towstrap recovery.
The exact same thing happened this time last year when I was there. Our camping spot almost flooded in the middle of the night. I'll be there next week. Hopefully, the road won't get washed out again.
that girl really thinks shes somethin huh? lmfao im dead
thanks for video
That's pretty sad. All these Jeeps sitting around and it's pulled out with a two wheel drive tow truck?? Nobody had a shovel? A couple of tow straps? Were all these Jeeps rental Jeeps? Stuck for 24 hours? One other Jeep and a shovel and a strap. Yes,😊 you are going to have to get dirty........
Nope, one way in, one way out (unless your down with Lockhart basin and that is a whole different level of ugly), camp spot D on the road to Chicken Corners. Can assure you nobody was crossing that creek before being cleared. Yeah, he sure could have been pulled back with a hell of a lot of effort but why bother when they all have no where to go. We turned around when we saw this, rode across on dual sports the following day.
Thumbs up. I got a kick out of you catching the morning yoga
Tic-toc goof ball from the looks of things......
Can someone please send this video to Joey B Toonz, that girl is exactly what he keeps highlighting.
Was it hot? Is she on that stuff?
How come the vehicles on the other side didn’t pull that jeep out?
After years of off-roading, I found that most aren't equipped to do a recovery. I have self-recovery gear and I will help when someone needs it. That Jeep was in pretty deep. The tow truck had to lift the Jeep to break the suction before he could complete the recovery.
Camera guy, was it a one way in and one way out road? why couldn’t they drive around?
It is a one way in and out road for all intents and purposes.
That female needs to lay off the substances.
Kanes creek not keens creek?
Not used to seeing the Jeeps without Snorkels. In Australia we mostly have snorkels when going off RD as we have deep creeks and areas like this. Our Jeep people aka clubs have to have mandatory winches, towing stuff etc, and when we go out we also hang around to help get cars and people to safety. Seems like you guys do it differently but each to their own. Have fun out there.
We got hit here over on the Colorado side of the La sal Mountains too, Paradox Valley was hit hard.
I am staying out of our canyons for now.
Super super nice video 🇸🇪👍
It's exhilarating isn't it?
Stayed in that campground just past this spot on Kane's Creek Rd, last April. Pulled a Ford Ranger out of this very spot with my Rav4.
Man oh man if this isn't Moab for ya: Jeeps, machines doing work on roads... and people doing yoga and throwing food into the river!
No food was lost to the river...tragedy averted!
I know storms can pop up unexpectedly, but always check the weather before going on one of these excursions and not just local weather. It needs to be checked for a 30-40 mile radius.
Got lucky last year, they had already cleared away the mud before I got to Kane Creek to head up Hurrah Pass.
My antisocial brain was kinda hoping yoga lady would fall in the water😊
Loader dude is out there living my ultimate dream lmao. Diesel, hydraulic fluid, mud and dirt that need moving 🤤
looks like a job for Matt's Off-road Recovery
More trail mater's stomping ground
Why would anyone NOT call Rory Irish and Trail Mater, when they get stuck off-road around Moab? Rory could have rescue the loader if it got stuck, yet alone a few Jeepsa stranded by a bit of mud and water. 😉
When you have a good operator, you would be surprised how fast the person can work the front end loader with the bucket. Another good public service to free stranded motorists.
The first thing is to give the water a place to go.
Where is trail Mater to pull out that Jeep
This looks like the same spot my husband and I were stuck at for 3 hrs in August of 21
always wonder how much they charge to come out, been there a few times, need to be prepared for a tow
By the hour
All those people and no winch? Under those conditions I estimate it would take 7300 pounds of winch pull to loosen him up. Estimating the weight of the jeep at 5000 lbs - a gross estimation. Also, driving faster through deep water is not a good idea.
Fun watching though.
and a little bit of elbow grease and a shovel would ease the workload of a winch
What was that lady doing?
Payote going on there?
Camera guy, where is the live footage of the flood?
15 comments on one video?
Give that tow truck operator's name to Rory/TrailMater, and get him an invite to the Off-Road Wrecker Olympics
Is she on something
That dude in the Jeep had better check his diffs soon.
We’re is Rory with TrailMater you need him? 💪🏼
Monsoon season, job security for that front loader..
Is this Kane Creek or Keene Creek?
Kane Creek
@@ShawnSabot description says Keens, needs fix.
Probably liability concerns on the jeep. One dent and he could get sued
Going fast is the surest way to destroy the motor. Walking speed is best to avoid sucking in water and mud.
When in Moab...Always Call Rory at Moab Motorsports. Period...
That guy better keep that tire loader moving, otherwise he's gonna be in the same situation as that jeep he's trying get out, the whole point is, keep your machine moving don't stop.
That looks like a lot of fun you're gonna need that off road recovery person to come and yank that Jeep out
I guess the others had no straps or not enough power to pull it out.
The jeeps like uhhhh can we get it a little deeper lol
why didnt the loader pull the Jeep out?
Liability issues!
We rode there the day before on side by sides.
Same
@@ShawnSabot You have to make a short about that lady doing yoga during the bulldozing.
Subway man, got a subway arm
The Jeep in the mud was no need for crane, another all-terrain of those who had there could be taken.
Should have left the food in the bag and swung it to create the momentum needed to get it over the river.
Reminds me of a song-
Blue Oyster Cult
“Godzilla”
History shows again and again
How nature points out the folly of man
Godzilla!
If the happened on the 10th February 2022 (10/02/22) why has it only just been uploaded?
Oct 2 2022
Dude tossing subs will never be picked up by a baseball team!!
Kane Creek, not Keens Creek.
Thanks. Didnt realize I labeled it wrong. Changing it now. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
you think the guy in front loader would help
Nice moves by the Dirt Ballerina
Call Matt's Off road recovery get that jeep right out.
every summer at my house, lol
whos the nut job having a workout on the mud 😜😜🤪
Just call Matt off Road Recovery and Banana Team...
Matt on the other side of Utah.
That's Rory territory.
bad time for yoga
Worst sub toss Ive ever seen
Dudes got a weak arm
Wow how incredibly stupid ! He couldn't leave the sandwichs in the plastic bag before throwing them across the water!
Some sand ladders, a pulley and a winch on another truck would pull that jeep right out
Look at what people who crossed the Darien did in 1978 or what Indonesian off-roaders do today.
You don't need a 12,000 lbs excavator to get that jeep out.
Tf is that girl doing out there? Just gotta be center of attention.
WTH was that chick trying to do????
Thats not yoga thats meth
you would think those hippies would have a rope and an ice chest -- get the sandwiches across safe and dry
Why is that guy digging a hole and not feeling it in that makes absolutely no sense at all
Its a wash...like a creek except it's dry almost all the time. He is smoothing the road surface through the wash after a flash flood made berms of sand. The water will be gone or very low in a few days. It's close to town and there isn't another way out so these people are stuck...usually they wait until it's dry if there is another way around.
It is monsoon season nothing new at all
Confused why the loader didn't just hook to the jeep an easily pull it
Because of liability. Too many people have sued from damage, so they can't anymore.
@@ShawnSabot Yes, I worked for Clear Creek County Colorado (and now Las Vegas)
We are NOT allowed to tow or push. Too many people have screwed that up. That's a big no no.
One ripped off bumper and off to court we go, responsible for anything the lawyer can get. The tow companies don't like it either.
I'm astonished you yanks don't assist each other!
In South Africa we all have tow ropes!
We do help each other. An earlier post said they tried to help him dig out. I've been off-roading for a long time and even if I'm stopped for whatever reason, people stop to ask if we need help. If you notice the wrecker had to lift the Jeep out of the mud to break the suction. The front end of the wrecker came off the ground. I have self-recovery gear and with what I have I could not have pulled him out. So, don't think too bad of us yanks. Cheers and stay safe.
I was there and the Jeep driver had use of my shovel that loaned him from the morning after. He tried to cross at about 1am and he was traveling alone so there was no vehicle available to pull him out before the silt suctioned his Jeep in place. My friends on the other side with him fed him and a few other stranded people, so even though the video may not show it, we were all helping each other out.
I ask, the machine could have helped him, I also did not see that the rule is fulfilled that among us who like off road we should help each other. I didn't see any of the onlookers help him.
I know! That loader could have scooped him out of that rut immediately. Just hook a chain to the lip of the bucket and to the receiver tilt the bucket back and bam...
I also agree, it's not cool all those other drivers weren't even trying to help...
@@NixonInDaGhetto Nope. I'm an operator.
We are not allowed to tow or push. If that loader rips off the bumper, people throw a fit and want the county to pay.
Probably from California. The land of fruit and nuts! Thanks from St. Paul Minnesota.
Pretty sure its required by law for all residents to own some form of construction equipment in Utah. But also fail all OSHA safety checks.
How exactly does osha come into this they are cleaning up flood damage. Osha has nothing to do with it plus that's probably a private tractor.
He should have left them in the bag, then chuck them.
Yoga lady is wacko!! But at lease he enjoyed watching her while he working..
What a buffoon he should have tied the knot in the bag and threw them all together
All those Jeep and no one pulled him out? Y’all better quit wheelin
If you read earlier comments, they did try to help but the Jeep was buried. If you noticed the wrecker had to lift the Jeep to break the suction and then was able to pull him out.
going off toad. these fools need to stay home.
you go out into the booneys you must be ready to spend three-four extra days out there. and why was that guy stuck in the mud? was nobody off road ready?
jerk strap.
tow rope,
A winch?
This is stupid try wheel rolling AC into that mud the water will roll over top the zone preventing it from becoming saturated, the idea of yours only makes it deeper and collects more mud, you're only stirring it up makes it worse.Glad you saved the 4×4 stuck there now prevent this from occurring next time.
That's what kids do. Get stuck!
The fact that people drove past the stuck jeep.without even trying to help recover it is unbelievable. There is a whole different kind of people in the back country these days . not good people:( it's unfortunate..
Not true. He was stuck since the night before and many had helped him with shoveling and water and just plain company. He was greatful. I got stuck myself the day after this for 4 hours in the sand. I had 14 people help me shovel and push and pull with 4 different machines. It was alot of work, but together we got it done. I'm forever grateful.
Not true! I'm the guy that brought back the sandwiches after taking a group of five of those stranded people back down (45 minute drive each way) to town after being trapped for over 24 hours. Our group also helped extract two other vehicles that were stuck next to the jeep before the operator got there and we helped the guy in the Jeep get free in any way we could and he still needed a large wrecker to get him out. Please don't assume that no one was helping each other out there because it was actually a really cool thing to see all of us coming together.
@@justinwilsonmusic8555 that was very awesome of you!
Some were nice, but winches wouldn't have worked after some shoveling? Maybe not. 🤷🏻♂️
I am not going to help every tourist who does a dumb thing...
MTB guy did a better job at crossing.
Loader driver could've at least pulled the jeep out .
He couldn't because of liability. It's all because some people get damage and then sue. Others had to ruin it for everyone else.
we all wait for tourists and gapers to simply go home. please.
