It's interesting listening to this version, but I am glad they changed a lot of it because the final version is a lot better haha. This one reminds me of the "Streets" vibe.
I miss the punk influence myself. I'm not sure why, I don't even like much punk, but they knew how incorporate it with metal quite well. I think they could cover the shit out of a couple of Misfits songs (when Graves was their vocalist.)

Dude, I've never heard M. Shadows scream like this. This is amazing omg.
***** This is his metalcore screaming voice. He even still has this voice. You don't hear it as much on Waking the Fallen or STST because it's often layered with a lot of screams so it gets masked. But whenever he screamed live, it sounded like this. There's 2002-2007 footage of him screaming like this, but he eventually stopped, mostly because it took a huge toll on his voice to do metalcore screams and sing.
Exactly Jake. There was 2012 footage of him doing some old screaming. The more you scream, you more it beats up your voice. And singing doesn't go well obviously, so he refrains from screaming. That's why he doesn't scream when playing Not Ready to Die live. Sometimes when he gets really into it he still screams. You can find lots of footage of him screaming like he used to, especially circa 2004-2007.
***** All of his screams always were and are False Cords. You can tell by the sound of the screams when he screams live. It also didn't damage his voice, screaming doesn't damage your voice in any way if you do it correctly because you don't use your true vocal cords. He just wanted to focus more on singing. He still used to scream of COE and later albums, but it usually were only background screams, you will hear it for sure if you listen to vocal tracks e.g. of Beast And The Harlot (Intro), Blinded In Chains (end of second chorus I think), Critical Acclaim, God Hates Us or A Little Piece Of Heaven. I'm 100% sure all of his screams are False Cords, he just really improved them A LOT. Same pretty much with singing.
Seven Hugs Not all his screams were false chords. In the earlier, STST and even WTF, he did really unhealthy screams, although they improved in WTF. He screamed from his lower vocal chords/larynx, which really fucked up his voice. In the original STST demo, his screaming wasn't even creating the screaming sound, but was just trashing his vocal chords, before he even knew how to scream properly. If you listen to the vocal track on Beast and the Harlot, you can hear some true false chord screams, coming from the top of his vocal box where it's just a mix of mucus, and air hitting the sides of his vocal chords, giving an illusion of vocal thrash. He was taught how to false chord scream by Ron Anderson, his vocal coach. Even this kind of screaming can take a toll on your voice, because the more and more you do it, the more minor mistakes happen, which can lead to vocal damage. And for his singing, he pretty much retained the same range for a long time (up until recently where his voice is deepening due to aging), but rather, he just used to sing really unhealthily. An example is the high D/Eb from I Won't See You Tonight P1. His belt is strained, and use the same logic of vocal fry/false chord tones to create pitch. Its just a forced belt with a lot of air. With Ron Anderson, he stopped attacking his vocal chords to produce high notes. You can hear his voice become more relaxed and steady, rather than unstable and forced, in CoE. In Strength of the World and The Wicked End, you can hear some steady, casual, vibrato A4s, rather than the normal, belted ones he did. So, he has improved his voice a lot, but he had very unhealthy habits in the past. He had to put them to rest to make sure his vocal chords didn't blow out. Listen to 2001-2004 footage of him screaming live. Those aren't false chord, but rather actual thrashing of his vocal chords.
***** Oh okay, I didn't know that. I thought the sound of his screams only became better because he practiced and improved them. But if he had been doing it wrong on STST it makes sense they became a lot better later. Well thanks for telling me man (: When he was screaming the wrong way his screams were meant to be False Cords though, weren't they?

Yea, it gives that hyperspeedy punkish Sounding the 7th Trumpet vibe, but this piece is better than any ones I heard on StST I swear and I love that they've released this demo! 😆😍❤

I feel this one is better than the original, but it kinda goes in too many musical directions without choosing one. We have the harmonies, the punk section, the verse, 2 guitar solos with completely different feel...wow, this song would be so much better if it were some minutes longer

The multiple different sections would work if they weren't shoved together for the demo, nothing flows even though the individual sections are very good on their own. The ending solo in the final version here is actually broken down really heavy.

This song is all over the place. The album version is rightfully toned-down and made more focused
Agreed. There’s nothing unifying the song here, it sounds like a bunch of different riffs/sections they wrote and then just patched together. The album is a more cohesive song and even that is still a little unstructured with the two choruses and all.

This version is way better than the one we got on waking the fallen, Way more depth in the lyrics. This and waking the fallen resurrected are my favorite songs in a7x history.
