I actually tried this a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't fit the camera and decided to move the components to a happymodel bassline. Very fun little quad.
It is like playing tetris for a bit, lol. I had to customize the mounts a tad, and even then it still hits the stack in the back so I am angle limited. I would rather have the lower angle and HD recording than go analog and get that angle adjustment back though. Now if I never wanted to share footage from it for videos like this, then I would probably go analog, save the weight, and just rip the heck out of it!
So cute 😍 Just got my HD Zero goggles, need a micro for flying around my yard. I prefer 2" builds. My first open prop 2" was the Mantis85, it's now on display. Happy flying everyone. 🤓
I'm in the middle of making my Odonata. It gives me hope to see your build because I am also using 1002 20,000 kv motors and I'm worried about the weight. Thank you MBN for another great video! 😎
It should be one heck of a ripper!! This small little thing still spends a lot of time ripping with me in the front yard, even though I am building micros like crazy lately, lol.
I hear ya, regarding the constant wind outside. Where I live, we have always had a slight breeze but this year it's more of a constant higher than normal wind.
That's a great little build. I just built out that frame a couple of months ago with 2S and the Happymodel X12 5 in 1 and 0802 16,000kv and it is a fun little yard ripper for sure. Unfortunately, I only have DJI, so my smallest non-whoop HD build is a 3" toothpick with 12025 6400kv. The little Odonata makes the yard feel so much bigger though, and I love the handling of the top mount battery too.
I think the x12 is a great choice! That would be what I would have gone with if I wasn't after such a high amp limit out of a whoop mounted board. I really do love how it makes a small place feel much bigger, and im gonna keep ripping it just for that reason!
that is exactly what I love about it! Just throw it in a bag when the kids want to go to the park and rip it around without anyone complaining. If they are scared by this little thing, they may want to avoid going outside, lol.
I liked that darwinfpv aio. As long as it worked 😢. The betafpv or happymodel 1S aio are also like a 30% risk they dont work properly. Next one to try would be the jhemcu 5a 1s aio. I also love that walksnail 1s vtx. You only have to watch out to get a good 1S lipo. Preferably not a HV. The tattu 500mah rline 1s are great. With the walksnail 1s the video goes out when you punsh too hard toward the last part of the battery. The voltage just sags too low. We just need a better 2.5" bi blade prop for a good backyard 1s ripper. Also some 1202 15000kv motors. 3" just needs a little more space.
I think this rig might pull a little too much for a 5A since it is a bit on the heavy side, but I know there are some 12A HM boards that may be a good substitution...if they work, like you said, lol. I am indeed running non HV packs on this for that very reason as well! :) I haven't had one of their 1S kits fail on me yet, and I have a hand full of them at this point. we shall see if my luck continues!
it is a great move up from a whoop and can even take the same props if you are running a 75mm one currently. Kind of exactly where I was shooting for with this build!
Remove tower, add 31mm wire Same for the video, just solder a 13mm piece of wire to the antenna feed on the VTX That’s how I build and get very good results. Plus it’s way lighter and more compact. And way more durable.
That is exactly what I am going to do the first time I rip one of these things off, lol. I have had more than sufficient results with those kind of antennas on these small things, and I would love to see more of them come with that pre-installed for simplicity!
I was on the fence about using it for this one, but in the end that on board recording just won out. The Whoop like would really be great in it though!
I have my mob 7 hd moved to the odanata and run both 2 s and 3 s on it. You need to remove the motor connectors and hard wire them, and I moved the camera in front of the frame. Think I post a pic before I hard wired the motors to your discord a while back 😊
I remember that! On a build like this, ditching the motor connectors would for sure be a must. I almost went the route of putting the cam outside the standoffs, but opted to just try and squish it in so that I could protect it a little bit with the frames front end. You still rocking that Mob 7 conversion?
A mini brick 🧱 I think it would be called a lump of charcoal, a.k.a. Briquette 😊 cool little build ninja! I’m really wanting to try some new goggles so I can fly smaller craft in digital. I’ve been on the original DJI fpv System for 3 years now and I still love them but I am totally wanting to try the HDzero and walksnail systems. Before I dive into the O3 systems 😅 I can’t get away from the quality of DJI but I hate the latency and I can’t fit them into a super small airframe.
lol, you ought to just come down here and try em all! I have all the things and would be more than happy to let you take them for a spin buddy. If by tomorrow should be beautiful, you mean it will be raining for the next 3 days here down south of you, then yes indeed it shall :p Remember, always measure things in milipeters!
I just completed the same build: 2" Odonata with walksnail HD 1S VTX, Foxeer AIO, T-motor 1103 11,000kv motors on 2S batteries. Yesterday I was out testing battery sizes to see which one worked best in terms of weight -vs- flight time. I brought it in and landed in the grass. 1st battery, it stopped arming after that. I played with it some. I didn't realize until after I got home, that it had lost the ELRS bind. I'm wondering what/why the bind had to be "re-bound"? I watched your video on the different led flashing, and what they mean. I'm just curious why it would lose the bind. SUBBED!
Pretty beautiful build, dude! Nicely done! 😃 Those little quads are amazing! When you can try a 2s 2" frame, Nick Burns seems to love them! Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I actually have a 2" 2S build on my bench right now and am doing some testing with it! I have really loved me some little quads lately. Always appreciate you bro!
its size inspires some ridiculous ideas, lol. It is pretty easy to get all of this stuff on a 2" quad, but the challenge of cramming into the smallest thing possible just plain fun sometimes!
I don't have any video of building unfortunately...but that is because I spent most of the time playing tetris to fit everything into it, lol. It would either be a suuuuper fast time lapse or a boring regular speed vid of me putting things in places until the frame would close up. I will have some more detailed pics on the website though when I get the companion article done!
I am running the VRX for this one. The firmware updates have made the smearing quite a bit better, and although I can feel the latency of the lower frame rate mode it isn't as bad as it was when I was first testing. The future of Walksnail is looking pretty good at the moment!
Yeah I thought about a smaller more feature rich AIO, I just really like the 15A headroom on this one. The amp draw counter in the OSD shows it pull 12A pretty often, so a 5A would have popped pretty quick I think. Just big ol' motors and a chonky weight class.
lol, hey that scrambled view just makes it feel retro! Feel the nostalgia :p But seriously, the motor and prop combo on this thing with the lighter weight would be an absolute ripper, so I bet that thing is helluh fun!
i break off every one of those ceramic antennas, they crack when you bang into anything, easy fix, just solder a wire in place of it, i wonder if the tower can be encapsulated in a glue, like gorilla grip or epoxy?
yeah the first time I have an issue with it, the fix is going to be a wire antenna for it, lol. It would be cool to see some testing on how epoxy impacts signal quality specifically for these kinds of antennas. Maybe I will figure out a way to do that!
But, does Walksnail's 1080p actual LOOK LIKE HD now? Cuz, last time I heard about 1080p from WalkSnail, it wasn't any better, actually worse, than their 720p.
It still has a little bit of the melt zone in places, but I do have to say it is better than it was back at the very beginning of the year. They are really hitting the firmware updates, and it feels like that has been a big focus for them. It is for sure better than 720p, but not quite as good as DJI O3 in 1080p mode. Still though, the on board recording is pretty darn good for a little quad that could slide right into your pocket!
@@BaconNinjaFPV It's good to see someone building something besides 5" drones! Unbelievably over hyped, that size! Micros are a blast to fly. Good to hear Walksnail's updates are actually doing just that - making the system better! I applaud them! 👋👍
Mostly the pack weight really. This quad already weighs quite a bit more than it was designed for, so doubling up the pack weight would really make it fly pretty terrible. I could technically go up on the prop pitch and motors to compensate, but there is just only so much you can do for it with this size prop. Staying at 1S with it seemed to put it in the zone I was targeting for the all up weight and minimal impact to flight characteristics :)
I really wish I could build these things and sell them off for parts cost to people who wanna give them a good home! I just know that it would take me like 4 months to finish a build so nobody would want to wait that long, lol.
I would wait for it. I have a jumper T-Lite and couldn't connect it right to a mobula6. Finally just sold the whoop and have a controller that has never been used
Challenging build but kind of the future of micros. Kudos for making it happen!
hands down where things are going, especially this year. Gonna be really interesting to see what we can do with them 12 months from now!
I actually tried this a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't fit the camera and decided to move the components to a happymodel bassline. Very fun little quad.

If we recreate this, we’ll use a flat ceramic antenna. 🤔 Nice little build.👍
flat ceramic for sure!
I hear ya, regarding the constant wind outside. Where I live, we have always had a slight breeze but this year it's more of a constant higher than normal wind.
it makes flying pretty interesting. You get to go realllllly fast in one direction, and realllllly slow in the other direction. lol.
I need to build this CUTE little drone with the Walksnail Avatar 1S kit!
it is a very cute little thing!
