So if anyone also doesn't have apple sauce, I just made this recipe and I cut another apple in big chunks and put it in a microwave with a bit of water and syrup for a few minutes and then smashed the soft apple chunks with a fork. And then used this as an apple sauce (it made a lot more than two tablespoons of course). I kept the skin because it was very soft, but if it is rough I think it would be better to peel it off

I really love your concept here especially the date sweetener. I think a lot of people are attracted to mug cakes because they provide almost instant gratification. On the other hand, more effort usually produces a superior result. I love to cook, so I am with you on the homemade apple pie filling. I steam my "mug" cakes anyway as I believe the extra time the ingredients spend together truly makes a better product. Bravo to you. All this leads to ideas of using other fruits as well.

I routinely make apple butter, which is just apples (and a bit of seasoning if you like), cooked down past applesauce to a deep brown, which is traditionally used as jam. But in addition, I use it on my yogurt, in place of applesauce in recipes, and now I’m going to try it in place of the filling in this recipe! Thank you 😄

@@staceykersting705 sorry but you are incorrect. It is the polyunsaturated that are the “good fats”. Maybe you are mixing it up with trans fats which is the worst type of dietary fat. It is a byproduct of hydrogenation that is used to turn healthy oils into solids and to prevent them from becoming rancid. Trans fats have no known health benefits and that there is no safe level of consumption. Trans fats increases the amount of harmful LDL cholesterol in the bloodstream and reduces the amount of beneficial HDL cholesterol and also creates inflammation, which is linked to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and other chronic conditions. I believe in America they have been banned although not so here in England. Polyunsaturated fats are essential for the body which cannot produce this type of fat itself. Building cell membranes and the covering of nerves is an example of how polyunsaturated fats work in the body.
Coconut oil tends to come in the middle along with red meat; full fat normal cheese and full fat milk. It is oils such as olive oil that is beneficial.
Sorry if I’ve rambled but nutrition and health is my thing and was included in some of my modules when studying with The Open University.
I’m not mad on Stevia as it has a ‘funny’ taste. I use the original Xylitol from birch particularly as it has a protective effect on the teeth. Particularly important for me as I can’t produce enough saliva and tears 😢

Looks yummy!! 😍😍 But what can i substitute for the apple sauce? Or can i omit it if i can't find one? Also, how high should the microwave temperature/power should be? Ours temp options are 100, 180, 300, 450, 600 and 750 and how many minutes? Thanks!! 🙂🙂

    • @HowToCookSmarter
      @HowToCookSmarter  4 года назад +1

Thanks! Well, you could make this first version, using just apple slices. Talking about the microwave, mine is at 800, so go for 750 for the same amount of time.

When I lived with mom I used to make something like this for her in the evening when she craved something sweet. She's diabetic and she liked how it didn't send her blood sugar through the roof but it felt like she was eating something sweet, warm, and comforting. ❤️

I really enjoy all of your recipes and I have made some of my own oat flour as a result, so thank you. I do not know whether you can help but I would like to ask you a question about pastry or pie crust. I make mine own mince pies at Christmas time and this is the recipe for the mincemeat that I use:
2 apples, cored and chopped into small pieces
1 vanilla pod, split lengthways, seeds only
    or Vanilla Extract
    100g raisins
    100g sultanas
    100g dried cranberries
    1 tsp ground cinnamon
    1 tsp ground ginger
    Juice of 2 oranges
    1 tbsp coconut oil
It is not too sweet which I like but I have some difficulty with the pastry and I am not sure what to do, is there a recipe that you would recommend using?

Hi there! Thanks for your lovely feedback! Yes, I was thinking about making a video all about the healthier pie crust, but still haven't come up with something that I could share with you guys. So at this moment I don't have any recipe that I could suggest, but I'll do my work to find a solution.
