  • This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. The talk, given by Roman Saini is about his journey till now and the way he cracked some of the world’s toughest examinations. He emphasizes on extremely low acceptance ratio in prestigious Indian examinations. Making a mention of the importance of being risk friendly, he then goes on to explain how each one of us has the capability to achieve greatness but we are afraid to take that one step. He believes that luck is a probability and describes how each one of us has equal chances of succeeding at it. His deduction exhibits competence is more impactful than just having confidence. He is of the opinion that delayed gratification and Roman’s Rituals have helped him a lot in life. Finally, he ends the talk with a song.
    “I believe we can achieve anything if we really want it. For me there were no external benchmarks to conquer. I have done everything that I really enjoyed doing. I play guitar as I love music not because I aspire to go to Trinity College in England. Medicals, civil services to now giving back to millions of UPSC candidates - all these have been
    internal drives.”-are the words of a prodigy who cracked AIIMS at 16, Indian Administrative Services (IAS) at 22 and even holds a degree for music from Trinity College and is now helping IAS aspirants via Unacademy. Featured in Your Story, he feels everyone has the capability to pursue their dreams; all they need is to understand it well. The driving force for him is his quest to constantly learn and his hunger for knowledge which has made him go on and on and on.

    Thanks for the 1400+ people for your valuable feedback. Sorry to disappoint you from the bottom of my heart. Even I did not like the walking, the shouting, the self-boasting bit, it when I saw the video. I realise that people will take it negatively and they should. But it was my first public speaking experience and hence, I committed those mistakes. I am really sorry for the same. Just a suggestion that please do not spread so much hatred on the internet that many among the new generation, stop trying altogether for the fear of online ridicule and hatred. Just my views. Sorry if you disagree.

And when students go to IIT or AIIMs they don't already know that in the future they are definitely gonna purse the civil services exam or anything else. Plus I think the knowledge and experience he gained in AIIMs would have been one of the reasons for his good preparation and success in UPSC and later on in his career, So I don't think he wasted the seat. He learned many things in AIIMs and he used that later in life and became really successful, and now he is changing lives of student who can't travel to places with good teachers, Also He may have not used is medical knowledge in his career but he has given India, so many good Doctors , Engineers and Civil Service officers , by his platform unacademy. @MrFreudianslips 9 лет назад

      +Piyush Aswani I didn't think I'll meet even bigger 'geniuses' on RUclips. my reply about Nobel prize was in the context of iitians and Nobel prize. the popularly expected( like the dumbass who commented)Nobel prize would be science related ( medicine, physics, chemistry). Nobel peace prize is not niche like science Nobel prizes because they can be won by anyone who has done positive work for peace. usually no one would expect iitians to win it. his comment was obviously about science Nobel prizes and my reply was in that context. thank you for shining your light of Knowledge upon us and enlightening us about kailash satyarthi winning Nobel prize in peace. I didn't know that such a Nobel prize existed at all. since you are sharing knowledge could you also tell me who is the prime minister of India?

    • @PiyushAswani13
      @PiyushAswani13 9 лет назад

      Why do you need to get all worked up? If you will read your comment, you yourself would realize that it implies Nobel is given only to scientists.
      Also, there is nothing like popularly accepted category in Nobel prize. It maybe to your opinion, in general consensus it is not.
      And why would you think that an IIItian wouldn't win or want to win a Nobel; peace or otherwise? They have emerged out to be Painters, Photographers, Entrepreneurs, Actors etc. As well as, some of them have done tremendous contribution to science in their fields and many have went on to become Social servers.
      Though I kind of agree that doing research in India and winning a Nobel is quite impossible for now. But if you do not expect them to win Science Nobel, then that's okay. Why do you burst anyone else's bubble.
      And I very well know who's the P.M. of India buddy. But just for fun, please explain what is the difference between Science and Technology. Since you said "IIItians produce engineers who are good in technology" and didn't really get where you were going with that.

    I read all the comments and I would say that unless you achieve even 1% of what he did, you are not supposed to defame someone's English or attitude. The voice was loud but I just grabbed what was beneficial to me, as I'm no one to judge unless I'm not at his position. He's a nice person and really doing "FREE" service to all the UPSC aspirants.....

      foe mr. saini...after becoming ias ...he doesn't ve any maturity...this is our nation's badluck that this kind of people become ias n crack exams who do not know the importance of being cool and calm... too much diversion from topic ... u r not supposed to talk abt u...u r supposed to talk abt the pattern crack ...it doesn't matter how many examinations u crack or just do simple experiments to put in journal...its all abt what u can give to community ,,, fed with people like you...people like u believe in degrees n exams ...life is all abt community participation...u r far away from that...bcoz u always try to prove yourself different rather than being a part of the community...you don't ve anything to do for community ...so self centered you r...

    Hi friends, I am from a village in Tamilnadu, India.. For our people like my dad,my relatives ,teachers To become a IAS officer is such a huge thing...we respect this service.
    Roman sainzi sir resigned from his service and created a educational platform Unacademy to help the financially poor people to achieve their dreams....see this is a wonderful thing....To get upsc coaching from Delhi or other coaching institutes is a expensive one for a talented aspirant.... Roman sir is doing a great thing for his society. He is not shouting in this ted talk .He want to highlight our confidence level,we have to believe in ourself..
    He is not a professional in speaking...So see the positives...Try to be a socially responsible person..That's it

    Roman saini inspired me. Watching this talk, around 1 months ago turned my routine upside down. This guys thoughts helped me improve my approach and views not only towards exams but life too. If one can inspire a single person its considered a big achievement, this guy is inspiring millions. Watched his channel unacademy, he's throwing away gems of knowledge for free. He could have earned lakhs of rupees if he had selfish motive. He's doing niswartha seva. Watching him walk in stage appeared like a lion roaming fearlessly in jungle. His voice is so confident that I was instantly motivated and excited. All this because he is a unselfish person genuinely trying to help people. This guy is 9 years younger than me but attracts great respect from my heart. God bless you dear Roman saini.

    Quite sad to see how you guys look at the video. You can look at it half full , by observing how factual he is and how he is guiding u to crack this exmanitation for free. But from the comments it is clear that most of you look at it half empty and can criticise him as being "egoistic", or "worst ted talk ever". That's why it is no surprise why a small percentage of the population actually crack the exam. Stop complaining. Put his advice and resources to use. And move on with your life.
