Who has the BEST Malasadas in Hawaii? (Spoiler, We found something better than Leonards)

- Everyone knows Leonard's Hot Malasadas, but is there a better one out there? We had to test to find out - and to our surprise, Leonard's has some competition! We loved trying all these malasadas, and were pleasantly surprised that Leonard's wasn't our favorite of the three! We checked out three malasada shops in Hawaii, two on Big Island and one on Oahu: Leonards, Tex Drive in and Manuela Malasadas . Have you tried malasadas before?

My favorite dessert is poi mochi. Reminds me of my menehune (my auntie always called us kids her little menehunes) and teen years with my auntie taking me to all the great places all over the island of Oahu in the 70's. Malasadas with Haupia filling is second favorite. Best I had was at grandfathers restaurant in Wahiawa.

with a name like 'Manuela", you know that's Portuguese...and due to its small operation, it can put in even more quality in its food... Funny thing, though I live on Oahu, people on the Big Island always talk about Tex's (as the rival to Leonard's on Oahu... but never mentioned about Manuela's Malasadas ... they may be somewhat new to the game... I thought I just saw about 850ish subscribers earlier Wednesday morning, but then your collab with Authentically Charles boosted your subscribers !

I Am from Hawaii, Honolulu, and I have been to Leonard's in kamuki,and I have tried making malasads,not easy as I am A retired Chef, by trade. Here in NYC, the cousin is the zeppelin, the only difference is Italian is rolled in 10x sugar, but I befer regular sugar.

Tex used to be good back in the day before they sold the restaurant and the new owners changed the recipe!
Also not a fan of Leonard's, growing up on the Big Island with a Portuguese family I know what really good malasadas taste like!
Champions on Oahu used to be my favorite before the owner retired, now it would be Penny's on Oahu and Manuela on the Big Island

Hawaiian malasadas looks like the donuts we have here in CA. Tim Hortons donuts filled with cream, etc. There's also one here in Ham. Grand dad's donuts that make the same donuts.
Next time go to Pipeline Bakeshop and try their Malasadas

I love Leonard's but I prefer "Agnes Bakery" Malasadas just a little more. The old owner sold still helps out the new owner. They sell them out of a Food Truck in Kailua Oahu next to Manuhealii store.
