Several themes of Crown’s shows have been about crowd engagement. How to make a moment or experience with the crowd that can felt in that moment…”Right Here, Right Now”. The fabric is used to connect the corps together in different ways. The Benediction has the low brass connected with the fabric on their uniforms while the high brass on the right everywhere wears one centric fabric together. It’s themes like that that come through. A major piece you can’t really see is the uniqueness with the app. For the corps members to look out and see a stadium full of lights and audience participation is amazing. The show feels overhyped because of that shared energy. If it feels like too much then the corps did it’s job. As a long time Crown fan and past member, it’s not my favorite show but it lives to what Crown as a man organization focuses on bringing to the audience. Every show had different song choices for the opening sound test and it made each performance of the show special to those who came out. The overall season experience meant more than providing a gold medal show.
For this show I could tell they tried something new and now they probably learned from the best moments of what the crowd wanted and what they can achieve
I agree with your reaction. Who can criticize the amazing performance? The is not so great. Covid disruption could be a factor. But they sure made up for this show with the 2023 masterpiece.
If their show designs matched up to the level of the talent they would win. Idk too disjointed here, but that staff obviously has some cred (designer leads Paramount).
I’ll admit I’m not a CC fan, but this was just a hot mess for me. The app they asked you to download was explained in that intro longer than it was used during the show. WTF is the point of that orange thing that just rolls around? I know it’s weird, but the best way I can describe this show is, “it’s trying really hard to make ‘fetch’ happen.”
Ya to me this show came off as a bit shallow, a forget your problems and just dance vibe, that probably resonates more with the younger crowd. I felt the same as you where I wanted some deeper meaning as to why "right here right now" is important. It seems the designers wanted to make a fast, fun, loud show that got the crowd involved and on their feet and they accomplished that. I absolutely am floored by the musicality of this show and the closing drill was what every DCI fan wants. Unfortunately the theme comes accross as a bit cheese and forced because we have years of incredible shows that are fast, fun, loud and get the crowd involved that also tell a meaningful story without breaking the 4th wall.
i never actually understood this theme so i've always just guessed it's about living in the moment, i can kind of see what they were trying to go for but breaking the 4th wall is... interesting? it just seems like it was made to be seen live, which goes well with the theme, but from a video perspective it does not transfer very well.
The audience was responding from an app on their phones that they downloaded prior to the performance. Thus the Qr code on the drum majors podium. They were qued what to do when, such as, turn on your flashlight, clap your hands twice, start the wave etc.. First ever interactive show by a Drum Corp. You had to be there as I was. Drum Corp is always better in person, and Crown was awesome! 😊
Ohhh okay! The LIVE EXPERIENCE was what made the show amazing! Completely fair. I know that's an experience you'll never forget... and in that case, they did their job! Love this explanation from your perspective. Thank you!
Thanks for the explanation. Fun, I guess. Not for me though. I pay to see PERFORMERS perform. I don't want to participate after a long day of work. That's the drum corps' jobs. Not mine. Lol
I watched those shows live and those 2 are no lie my favorite from Crown! I will write those down and cover them when I get through a majority of shows I haven't seen first. I have seen extremely quick growth from those who get their own equipment and practice 24/7 at home and learn via videos. It is NOT too late for that dream to become reality!! (unless you're too old lol)
Regarding the opening movment, It's usually easier since they do a summer camp where people as young as 8th grade (incoming freshmen) perform alongside them marching and playing in the early season. It's pretty cool but It can sometimes reduce the iimpact of their opening statement, but the rest of the show defidently makes up for it! ruclips.net/video/oCpucCFa4yc/видео.html
@@guardgirlreacts LMFAO fr not to hate on the members they sound great but I just don’t like pop music in dci or voices in general i just watch the brass feature and the closer minus the “right here right now” x8
That drum break sway thing they did was… interesting. The show sounds amazing but several questionable design choices. Like the long pieces of fabric they hide under and pop out.
Possibly. I have high expectations of CC and I think the title (like any title for anything) helps you start formulating thoughts about what you may see/read/hear etc. I get it, I just wasn't blown away. :(
It was entertaining. In the end, that is what it is all about. The point was that we are connected and in the moment.
Best horn line in DCI! Their show was super abstract this year, yet I can't get the music out of my head... another excellent show!

A lot of their staff is on Paramount it seems but are they newer joins? Maybe this will be the year!? I miss the 3D shapes.
Phantom 22 was great

YES!! 100% THIS. I'm so glad I'm not alone here. Thank you for this commentary!

You have to watch Inferno and E=MC2(squared) I wish I would have trained in HS and stayed in colorguard! It’s a dream of mine to March with them!

I'll write that down!! Thanks :)
They sound great but yeah the theme was too cringey for me. crowns show reveal this year looks amazing the repertoire I love

Time penalties do exist but they don’t always give them out.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Bluecoats 2022 show!

LOL. yes they sounded sooo good! And yea, even the orange stretchy fabric they were playing with was confusing. Added NOTHING to the show except color
