Mitchell Murray Do you know what is with him now? He's been talking about adapting a 'Motherless Brooklyn' book but I don't see it coming out anywhere soon :/
Too bad he isn't as consistent in choosing very good to great scripts as his fellow actors like Leonardo Dicaprio. Damn shame because Norton is twice the actor that Dicaprio is yet Dicaprio has been on a hot streak getting solid roles in big films with talented filmmakers since 2001. Norton needs to hook up with Dicaprio's agent.
I personally believe American History X was his finest with Primal Fear a close second in terms of acting. By the way, he was not in the Usual Suspects, that was Kevin Spacey. Perhaps you meant The Score.
I like what a critic once said about these two: I feel pity towards Gere; he's giving one of the best performances of his career in a film where this total newcomer is working on a whole different level.
My only problem with this movie is that just there isn't enough of Edward Norton in it. Richard Gere is cool and shit, but the movie would have benefited A LOT if it focused more on Norton rather than the battle of lawyers shit
SPOILER ALERT! Little screen time for that character hides the fact that he is not innocent. It makes it seem like norton character is just another innocent character that plot needs to highlight lawyer's skills. If it did have more norton's character we would have easily suspected that defendant was faking the whole shit.
Caution! There are spoilers in the comments. This movie is too good to let it be wrecked by your curiosity. Watch the movie before reading the comments. You will thank me later.
This is one of my favorite movies i've watched this scene so many times and it still makes me squeal i love edward norton so much this and the good for you marty scene i know all the words in the scene i love this movie and edward norton
this movie is GREAT!! def one of my favourites!! and edward norton is a genious in it!!! gotta love him (not only in this movie, he in general is an awesome actor, way underrated!)
Loved it. Richard Gere never disappoints, and Edward Norton was wonderful. A story with an unexpected twist at the end. A movie to watch more than once.
Yep... just had to come here and remind myself of the exact moment I fell in love with Edward. God he is amazing... in an XL shirt that barely covers his torso... Nom nom nom nom...
Louis Leterrier was so impressed by the force of Norton's push at 1:45 (shaking a solid brick wall) that he would later cast Norton in the title role of The Incredible Hulk.
Excellent acting. I liked the movie but.. My only problem is if "Roy" is as cold & calculated as it shows. Then why did "Aaron" do what the preacher said in the first place ?
Why did he get caught? That's what always ruins it for me. Roy is this super mastermind, able to pull this act for so opng, but then he gets caught commiting the murder
@@Clouddancer44 I think in the book Roy says the cops came earlier than he expected or when he ran out there was a random cop walking down the street so Roy had to improvise…something like that. Basically it was a timing issue
From what I've read online he has a history of being rather difficult to work with. Of course, you can't always believe everything you read online so that may or may not be true.
My favourite film ever. When I first saw this film, years later, on recounting it to someone else to try to describe it I completely forgot Richard Gere was in it !! Not that his performance was not superb, it was just that Edward Norton was so absolutely absorbing, that , that gorgeous man slipped my mind !
To handle a performance with two contrary personalities shows that he must be a brilliant actor. So tell me, why got Jennifer Lawrence as a newcomer an oscar for "Silver Linings" (I don't say that it was undeserved), but Edward Norton, as this time also a newcomer, didn't? In my opinion he was better than Cuba Gooding Jr. And what is about his fantastic performance in "American History X"? Why has such a brilliant actor like Edward Norton no oscar? Sorry, but this is unfair.
At 1:02 I thought Roy was talking to Martin but then I realised he must’ve been talking to Aaron since Aaron called for his help when he was starting to stress out
I remember screening this movie when it first released at the theater i ran. This scene really freaked people out. Then the little slip up at the end that showed it was all a fake. My crew came out asking "what the hell just happened?" Great movie.
This scene is amazing. It signifies in retrospect just how manipulative “Roy” actually is. He understands that Aaron isn’t working but also understands that playing dumb isn’t going to work. This is also a lawyer who doesn’t understand how MPD actually works, so he can play him masterfully
knightsintodreams your not alone in this !! I know exactly what you mean! He becomes amazingly sexy when he becomes roy ! And its not just me either. Lots of women get turned on by a "ROY" type character but some just dont admit it coz It doesnt look good 😅
Ed Norton should have won best actor for Aaron and best supporting for Roy.
But there was never Aaron. It was always Roy
lol
Yup! Pmsl.
ba dum tss 😆
Yes and all the movie is a masterpiece
And to know this was his first acting role is simply astonishing.
first on-screen role.
Yes, he was a stage actor for years before this
@@michaelk4113 Wow, I never knew that! He plays this part incredibly.
It was his first movie role. He was a seasoned stage actor before this.
@@michaelk4113 I wish those works were filmed.
To think, this was Norton's screen debut!
Norton has a great potential..too bad the Academy doesn't recognize it.
Ana Kulić He would have been a worthy winner of every nomination he received
Mitchell Murray

apparently he is a nightmare to work with. He killed his own place in the marvel universe.
The character didn't have a stutter Edward Norton being the genius that he is added it for effect and he pulled it off amazingly!
Its great to develop sympathy
Usual Suspects and Fight Club make everyone forget how amazing Primal Fear is.
still one of my favourite movie
Still can't believe the ending
He is so much better than Brad Pitt in terms of acting.
American History X too
Someone broke the first rule.
I personally believe American History X was his finest with Primal Fear a close second in terms of acting. By the way, he was not in the Usual Suspects, that was Kevin Spacey. Perhaps you meant The Score.
Rookie Edward Norton schooling veteran Richard Gere in the art of acting
woooooorddd
richard is shite compared to ed
Uh no, both these guys are fine actors, it's the silly direction of this movie that makes you think that way.
I like what a critic once said about these two: I feel pity towards Gere; he's giving one of the best performances of his career in a film where this total newcomer is working on a whole different level.
I think Gere did a very good acting job in this film. Possibly his best ever. But compared to Ed, he seems like an amateur at best.
"Well looky here, who the fuck are you?"
"...who the fuck are you?" OMFG gets me every time XD
Megan Walsh gere's grin tho
Despite the ending, one of the best representations of DID (dissociative identity disorder) put on screen.
Aaron couldn't kick his own ass. I mean, you seen him with the duh duh duh
Tyler Durden, is that you?

muffemod I don’t believe you , I saw the clip.
1:15 The way Gere said it after Ed made me laugh
where they say it?
Norton is an under-rated actor. He deserves an Oscar
And Richard
He's not underrated, he is very highly rated.
1:47 love the foam brick wall
Lol I couldn't work out if that was just my eyes, nice one.
and just like that... the immersion is gone.

wow why do people watch movieclips before watching the movie
amazing chemistry between the two of them.
This was the scene that got Norton his first Academy Award nomination. I was blown away when saw this, too. Unbelievable performance!
No wonder his heads hurting if he keeps banging it against that wall LOL
He looked so sexy in american history x
Moira Torres I gotta agree with you.... when the police make him put his arms behind his head they look so muscular
1:48 lol when he pushes him into the wall, looks like the wall is made out of foam or something, if you look carefully you can see it move
What's up with Edward Norton and alter ego's? Aron, Tyler Durden, and the Hulk.
Dude I watched fight club, hulk and primal fear in a row and I have the same question😂but he is just amazing
Probably coz he’s good at doing it, hes got that really innocent looking face, and then, BOOM his character snaps and its unexpected
He just might be the perfect Jekyll and Hyde of Hollywood
The whole point of this love is there was no actual alter ego.....!
He’s 27 yet he looks like a teenager only Edward Norton can do that
I dont think ive ever heard of primal fear before but WOW that was so impressive by both actors portraying SUCH a thematic switch in one scene
I saw it in the theater in 1996

It's hard to believe that Norton doesn't have an Oscar yet.
This was probably the best acting I ever saw.
Turns out he didn't have a split personality. Roy was the real person. Aaron was an act.
Okay... I really, REALLY need to watch this.
Do it. I just finished it. Good shit.
So…did you watch it?
