      Yea my guy had to be using steroids for American History X. Those traps are way too big for even a dull year of insane training. That takes roids or multiple years. You can get a six pack or big arm muscles but those neck traps are generally a good way to tell if a guy is natural or not. Muscle tissue is really hard to build there, especially for guys that weight 150lbs. Id think a heavier guy who naturally gains weight easier could maybe do it in a year but not ed. Imo.

      Norton strongly disagreed and believed the ending should be as you see in the film.
      personally i think Norton was right, and I'm glad he went to the studio and fought for what he thought the end should be. I think the original ending would have totally destroyed the film

      I have watched this movie a thousand times. I am facsinated at the human condition, and how what happens to us in life, no matter how big or little, can change us forever. We all have the potential for evil, as well as our own justifications for it.

      @@keithmuset6510 As someone who has lived that life (except for buttfucking in shower) I can tell you it takes very little to seed the hate in a young heart full of pain and it takes a lot of willpower and time to later fix it, but fortunately it can be done! This film was part of my healing and returning to the right path. People don't even realize how little is needed for someone to become a monster

    Derek was such a painful character to watch go through such an immense transition. American History X is not just a masterpiece of cinema, it’s an important and vital dialogue that needed to be spoken. Brutal movie. A hard watch. A necessary story.

Just recently they removed shotcaller from netflix, a movie about a DUI driver who had to become skinhead to survive prison, then triumphs to topple the aryan gang and protect his family. They just can't hold that type of movie on their platform in this day and age. despite having had shotcaller on their platform basically since it came out.

    How humble of him to not mention he also edited the movie himself. According to how I heard it, he sat in on the editing sessions with the director and disagreed with many of the decisions they were making throughout the process. So he went back in by himself and edited his own version which was longer and darker, and that's the version the studio went with.

      Didn't know that either. Then, I'd have to assume that he had a hand in how raw the dinner flashback scene was (Derek losing it and all the dialogue leading up to that point). Maybe it just feels like it dragged on because of how genuinely uncomfortable it makes me feel, but it definitely seems like a prime candidate for Hollywood butchering. Too long, hammering the point in too hard, etc. w/e. It wasn't, or rather, it was supposed to be, and I'm glad they didn't cut into it.

      I read something different. I read that the director had such a falling out with Norton-Furlong and the producers that he didn't even want his name attached to the project. He also stated that he would never work with Norton again and that Norton continuesly tied up production due to all the changes they wanted to apply. This information is also on IMDB. I read that somewhere else first. I think Norton and Furlong are superior talents so it seems hard to believe but you never know.

      Ever since Joe had Mel Gibson on that one time his guests on his show have become next lvl. Joe getting Mike Tyson on was another HUGE moment for the Podcast.
      I guess word spread that having a 2 or 3 hour non scripted podcast session with Joe was actually a really good thing and he makes it easy... The fans get to see a more "real and unfiltered" side of some of the most amazing icon/actors and minds of our time.

      I was watching Skin the other night and both me and my wife discussed American History X while watching this new movie Skin. We came to the conclusion that American History X was so good that if you watch any other movie of that genre, it just doesn't stand up and you end up saying "remember how good American history X was?"

    American History X is one of the greatest films ever made. Edward Norton deserved an Oscar for it. I saw it as a teenager and just had my teenage son watch it. He loved it too.

    It's a powerful tribute to his ability that before "American History X" I couldn't possibly have imagined him in that role, and then after seeing him in it... I can't possibly imagine anyone else doing so well with it.

      Agreed. I think the same thing was being said about Heath Ledger as the Joker. Before that role, he was seen as this sensitive, good-looking, charming boy and he had roles to match that image. Nobody expected him to do well as a scary, psychotic, evil, mastermind. Then he just delivered probably one of the best villain roles of all time.

    The movie was based off of a book loosely called Autobiography of a recovering skinhead. He’s my really good friend Frank Meeink. If you are a fan of the movie try giving the book a read. Hollywood embellished a lot compared to the book, like getting raped in prison, but Frank was Derek Vineyard in real life. Frank has helped me through a lot of my own struggles growing up in a gang in Chicago and moving past it. Hatred claims many victims along
    the way but you never realize it until it’s too late most of the time. Great movie and acting on Norton’s part as well.

    As much as American History X angered me to the point I couldn't finish it every time I'd say I was going to watch the whole this time, once I finally sat through the entire movie, it was the most moving story I'd ever watched and honestly Edward Norton was extremely ballsy to do it because he had no way of telling if he'd have a future as an actor after it. He really put everything he had into his character

    Love Joe's Podcast and love y'alls channel For making his Podcast more accessible but I do have a suggestion.
    What about putting time stamps in your descriptions in case anybody wants to see a continuation of your clip on his main video. Like as in this clip begins at 36:00 and ends at 41:08. Again just a suggestion but that would actually make things a lot easier I think for everyone involved and makes it much more attainable for those intrested in certain parts of his Podcast but don't have time to sit through the full 3 hours.

    Both Rounders and American History X released in the same year, and you get to see a total different Edward Norton in both; that's what I call superb acting. I have respect for type casted actors, but Norton is the classical definition of acting.

    One of the best performances in film I’ve seen is him in American History X! You can look at it and honestly not think it’s the same person talking hear and in the movie. That movie is so underrated in so many ways! The acting in the movie was great but the points made in that film and how they’ve played out over time shouldn’t be overlooked.

    Ed and his agent we're responsible for having Final Cut taking away from Tony kaye on this film only to make him look more favorable in the movie. It was going to be darker than what it actually was so Tony Kaye takes his name off of the film and then was blackballed in Hollywood for the next 10 years cuz of Ed Norton.
