  • In this video I'll cover ACTIVE TRACK for the DJI Mavic Air. I walk you through all three (3) ActiveTrack Modes including; Trace Mode, Profile Mode, and SpotLight Mode. This is a great tutorial for anyone who wants to understand how Active Track works in real settings. Active Track works great but there are some things you should know as well and this video covers all the basics.

    Looking forward to using my new Mavic Air on whitewater trips. I'm going to use active track running some rapids, and wonder how this will work if I put the remote in a Pelican Box after launching it.
    Also, Is there an automatic way to get the drone to return to you at a new location (like the end of the rapid)?

    How do you think this drone would do to track an RC car or truck? What is the max speed in tracking that it has?

    • @RGMGFitness
      @RGMGFitness  4 года назад +1

      Almost responded thinking this was my Skydio 2 video but your asking about the Mavic Air. The answer is 'NO" the Mavic Air (vs 1) won't track something like an RC car or truck. It's tracking is actually quite limited in my opinion. The newer Mavic Air 2 just got announced this week and is suppose to have better tracking but i doubt that will fair much better. Most drones as designed to track people, cars, trucks, etc. Because most follow from a distance something like an RC would just be to small to track. For something like that you might want to consider something like FPV but that's a whole other ball game learning to fly. Hope that helps...

    Great job. My interest is downhill skiing. For that application being in front would bet best. Any knowledge of whether this works well? Of course it has to accommodate going downhill. Is the least expensive model that supports this the Mavik 2 zoom?

    • @RGMGFitness
      @RGMGFitness  3 года назад +1

      Hi Scott, it will work tracking you from the front. But you'll need a wide-open area to do it. Won't be able to do it through trails (to narrow). Second issue is most ski resorts do not allow drones on their mountains. But, if your going out-of-bounds...I guess your okay. Open bowl areas you'll be fine...hope that helps.

    • @RGMGFitness
      @RGMGFitness  3 года назад +1

      It just does it's best tracking from behind is all. Profile (side tracking) works great too...Again, you just don't have side sensors so watch those trees.

  • @abelo6727
    @abelo6727 4 года назад

    I recently started to use the active track modes and I faced a problem. When on spotlight and after selecting the object to track and hit GO. Everything works well but when I moved far to the sides the right stick directions change. I mean, moving to the left side of the object the left changes to back, right to forward, backwards to left and forwards to right and it doesn't change until I get back in front of the object or hit the normal mode button. Anyone with same problem and a solution? Thanks.

    my question is what about setting the height and distance for each of the quick shots. doesnt it give you the option on the screen to set these perameters? No one mentions them in their videos.

    • @RGMGFitness
      @RGMGFitness  2 года назад

      In some of the NEWER model drones you have more flexibility with the Quick-Shots. Yes, you can in SOME instances play with the settings/parameters. With something like the older DJI Mavic Air (like in this video), those settings are very limited. If your not aware the newest DJI Mini 3 was just released yesterday (5-10-2022) so you may want to give that a look as well. Lots of new videos popping up on this new drone. Definitely worth a look....

    In trace what is the grey ball for that you can slide left or right? How far to keep away from the subject??

    • @RGMGFitness
      @RGMGFitness  4 года назад

      The grey/green ball I think your referring (2:12 I refer to it in video) to is identifying the 'SUBJECT' that will be tracked. You can click on that or draw a box around the subject (which I prefer). As far as 'distance' the drone will follow you from you can get an idea of it's following distance at 2:40 in the video but you can adjust 'slightly' with controller. If the drone get's to far away from the sujbect it will often lose it's ability to track.

    Does the active track works at high speed in the sport mode?

    • @RGMGFitness
      @RGMGFitness  4 года назад +1

      Sorry, but no. And, your object avoidance is disabled in 'Sports Mode' as well. For fast tracking you'll really want something like the SKYDIO 2 (if it's available in your country).

    • @CarloLuongo
      @CarloLuongo 4 года назад

      I Need to follow boats and don't Need object avoidance, so with mavic air I must follow max at 12 m/s with Active track even in sport mode?

    • @RGMGFitness
      @RGMGFitness  4 года назад +1

      @@CarloLuongo If you don't need object avoidance you have 2 options. In this video I'm flying the DJI Mavic Air (original version or vs-1), which can do 42.5mph (68.4kph). The newer DJI Mavic Air 2 does the same speed wise but has some newer features and if your looking on buying a new drone, the Mavic Air 2 is the way I would go right now. It has a feature called 'Active Track 3.0' (newer than the original Active Track on the vs 1 Mavic Air). The Active Track 3.0 will do 8m/s (Trace Mode - Aircraft tracks the subject at a constant distance) and does 19m/s in Sports mode (but no object avoidance). It will also do 'Parallel' tracking (at a constant angle and distance from the side) with a max flight speed of 12ms/. In Sports Mode the max flight speed is 19m/s (but again no obstacle avoidance). Plus, you get OcuSync 2.0 with the newer Mavic Air 2, which is a really stable connection between your controller and the drone. Hope that helps...

    Great video. Can Spotlight Mode be used in the same way the Parrot Anafi has "Cameraman" mode? In Cameraman, you can fix the camera on an object and control the drone's flight path while the camera stays fixed on the object. This mode makes for some great cinematic shots. See Ethan Mitchell's video on this as a point of reference. ruclips.net/video/JrlF-L6fubI/видео.html
    Question: Can you please comment on what degree of control you have over the Mavic Air while in Active Track Spotlight?

    • @RGMGFitness
      @RGMGFitness  5 лет назад +1

      I'm not to familar with the Parrot Anafi (Cameraman). But with the Mavic Air in Spotlight Mode the remote controller can be used to maneuver the aircraft, but orientation control is disabled. Using the left stick and gimbal dial you can still adjust your subjects framing. Hope that helps clarify.

    • @sralmas
      @sralmas 5 лет назад

      @@RGMGFitness I think that should do it. If you have the opportunity and can give it a try, an updated video on this would be amazing. The benefit is that you can design you own cinematic shot of a fixed object or person while maintaining visual line of sight of the drone (which is not only required by the rules, but, given the lack of side sensors on the Mavic Air, helps avoid mishaps. Thanks again.
