I lowkey wished Ashton could've done more films like this. He's so good in it and makes you feel bad for him
It's okay. He spent his time being a real life hero.
@@IanJenn356094 he did?
@@TJzWayyy His nonprofit organization has saved 6,000 kids from human trafficking. This is what he does now. There's a reason he stopped making movies.
@@IanJenn356094bruh dint it come out he never did anything for kids he supported and lied about his friend like 4 women 😅😅
Underrated time travel thriller.
Heartbreaking story with powerful moments and probably Ashton Kutcher's Best Performance.
Such a pity they reacted not to the director's cut. To my mind it's even more amazing!
"Ashton's best performance" that's really not saying much lol. not to mention the massive, ridiculous plot holes
I disagree in the part of underrated, how is this underrated?. Anyone that You ask about time travel movies is going to mention this movie, it's always a recommendation in every top of movies with this thematic
@@maksimtroshkov173I think the theatrical cut is superior, the ending in DC doesn't make sense.
The other thing a lot of people forget, is that this was made in 2004.
This was pre-facebook, pre-twitter or insta. Shit, a lot of people were still on a dial-up connection for their internet lol.
At this point in time, when friends moved away it was often a friendship ending thing. Because you could only keep in touch by your one landline number, because most teens at this time weren't walking around with cell phones yet.
So when his mother moved him away at 13 years old, he wouldn't have had much ability to keep in touch or go visit her, especially if his mother moved him away from the town to get away from that area. And once his blackouts stopped after the move, she would have believed she'd made the right choice, so likely wouldn't have ever revisited the town where he experienced such trauma.
Unfortunately for Kayleigh, as kids we often don't understand the nuances of these types of situations, and it would have definitely felt like HE left her behind, even though a 13 year old has no say in whether the family moves towns or not.
MSN and ICQ were a thing so keeping in touch wasn't that difficult
Spot on reply. I’m 29 currently and stuck between memories of before social media and after. This film will in my opinion be timeless
I like how the movie ended. Evan couldn’t stay with Kayleigh, but now he knows she’s gonna be alright after seeing her for one last time. It’s so moving. 🥹
Yeah and in Director's cut Evan is dead
The director's cut ending is the only ending for me - with Evan stopping it all before he could be born, just like his mother's other kids.
This movie showed Ashton is a great dramatic actor. Far better at it than comedy i think. Was surprised he didn't do more dramas after this. Or even win an acting award for it.
agree he was amazing in this
This is the only thing I ever liked him in
@@johnhoward7083 me too.
@@johnhoward7083 same
My mind is blown.
I just found out that the actor that plays Evan at age 7 is Charlie from The Perks of Being A Wallflower.
Logan Lerman.
What a great actor he’s grown up to be.
I thought I only knew him from Riding in Cars With Boys. Crazy.
You got the best ending. In the bad ending, he watches a video of his pregnant mother and travels back in time in which he strangles himself with his umbilical cord in his mother's stomach. This ending hints that all of his mother's miscarriages also committed suicide because they went crazy from such a life.
This movie has 4 endings.
Yes!!! I didn’t see that sadder ending until years later when I bought the DVD to watch it with my family and I was horrified at the end telling them that’s not the ending I saw!!! They were all gutted I’d made them watch such a sad end lol
I respect your opinion, of course, but I just can't understand how anyone cannot think the Director's Cut is the best. It literally changed everything, it totally blew me away. That version of the film will always be one of my all-time favourites.
@@davmeg Any ending is the best if it's for you! But it looks rather ominous - when the child strangled himself. We, people, and so in life have a lot of failures and all sorts of terrible events - a lot. Give at least a little bit of a good ending to the movie! (I don't even ask for this for real life)
@@michaelnewman7468 The first time I watched it was the Director's Cut, and I didn't realise that there were other endings. I watched it shortly after with a friend and when the ending didn't happen I was so confused, and the end just seemed to be lacking. For me, there can be no happy ending to it because that's kind of the point of the film, even if it sounds (and is) really dark. He keeps trying to change things and every time he does it just ruins something else. It seemed to be a cop-out to just not be friends with her. Like, if he'd tried that earlier in the film, we probably would've seen that without him as her friend, she would've become friendly with a different person and so chosen to stay with her dad because of that friend, instead of him. Or maybe she goes with her mum and on the way in the car she distracts her mum and they crash and she dies. I mean, I know it's bleak, I'm just saying that that's more fitting with the tone of the film.
The Director's Cut is basically showing the natural course of things - he goes back to the very earliest point possible, stops himself being born. And even that doesn't work, and you then realise that all those stillbirths his mum mentioned... wow, this thing has been going on for such a long time.
Anyway, I get why people want a happier ending, I just think it majorly takes away from the film.
@@davmeg Nope, I can't stand that version. It's horrible. The REAL ending where he goes back to the time he met Kaleigh is so much better & a more satisfying ending. I watched the director's cut one time, and that was enough for me. ALSO, the theatrical version has "Stop Crying Your Heart Out" by Oasis. That's how I discovered that song. It makes the ending even more powerful.
The directors cut ending is so much better. The DVD has three endings. There’s this one which is a neutral ending, then there’s one where he goes after her and is a happy ending. Then there’s what I consider to be the true ending, where he goes back to moments before his birth and strangles himself with the umbilical cord, essentially committing suicide. Much darker but so much more impactful. You also then realize Evan’s mother has so many stillborn and termination pregnancies because the kids eventually realize that’s the only way and do exactly what Evan does in the directors cut, strangles themself with their own umbilical cord in the womb.
Yeah me too I love this ending the first time I have seen the movie was this ending so lucky
I only seen two different endings but I heard there’s actually 4 different versions.
@@theunderground98 Yes, there are four endings, the happy route is where they stop to talk about the past.
Tell me how how strangles himself with the umbilical cord is a much better ending? How this saves his mom from suffering and most likely have the same ending of when he lost the arms?
@@wandersonfrancisco8494 Because he then never meets his friends, and they don’t stay with their abusive father and instead move with their mother. Sure, his mom will have a grief period, but if you’ll remember, before him, his mom had two still births. That implies the previous two kids came to the same conclusion Ethan did.
It’s also a dark ending, much darker than the ending we got in the US. Other countries got the umbilical cord ending. I’ve always been a fan of movies that don’t end on a note where everything is resolved happily.
I swear the first 8 times I watched this movie, I discovered or realized something new each time. I cry my eyes out every time at the ending. He sacrificed his entire relationship with Kayleigh to save everyone from misery. 😥
Viki is absolutely beautiful! I wanted to cry with her. We could've consoled each other. 🙂
Yes when he reads he goes back in time. Anytime he blacked out as a kid is when he went back in time, that's the plot twist.
4:24 OMG poor doggy! They're like "What?! what?! what!! Everything alright?!!"
This movie should serve as a cautionary tale about using time travel as the consequences of ones actions could lead to repercussions on those closest to you
Díselo a FLASH, Endgame o "Regreso al futuro"
One of the best illustrations of the butterfly effect is a story by Ray Bradbury, "A Sound of Thunder" (1952). It's a profound tale of a group of big game hunters who travel back in time to hunt Tyrannosaurus rex. The #1 Rule of the hunt is to NEVER go off the marked path, as anything you may do, no matter how small, can and will affect the future.
That's a good episode. Don't step on a cockroach...
@@josephblow3581 ….. Are you referring to the 1989 episode of “The Ray Bradbury Theater”?
@@Stogie2112 yeah. I got them screwed up in my head. My mistake. Thanks for pointing that out.
They made a movie by the same name in 2005 starring Ed Burns.
I bet Bradbury's story is better.
The big-screen 2005 version was practically a 'B-movie'. Barely meh.
This was the ending I seen when first watching this when it came out on DVD long ago, couple years ago I found that this movie had other filmed endings and this one is still my favorite as it doesn't lean to hard in one direction. For example the baby suicide one as it leans to the worst outcome and the opposite where he decides to go after her is on the nicer outcome, while this one everyone lives but isn't able to be with her as I assume he being apart of her life even as adults might ruin her life again.
Heard of a happier ending one, didnt know what exactly happened as i never looked much into it. Was waiting for the reaction to the ending im used to(sad one).
It's standard to choose the neutral ending as the official ending. We can see this also in video games involving time travel. You get good ending if you did everything perfectly and had faith in yourself and you get the bad ending if you do the opposite.
The alternate ending is by far the better one. Such a tear jerker though.
@@johnholder4208 The alternate ending wouldn't save his mom, who probably got depressed from losing another baby and smoke until death, again. The official one really saves everyone.
I have too many fav movies but this has always been one of them, helps remind yourself of be grateful for the life you already have
I could be incorrect about this, but from what I understand he chooses to do stupid comedies more than movies like this
This movie, especially the ending, gave me so many mixed emotions. For years I felt slightly depressed just thinking about the outcome. In most stories fate/destiny brings you happiness or true love. But this time it seemed that their relationship was just not meant to be without massive repercussions.
The alternate ending is even more intense. I wont spoil it, but you can see it for yourself. I think it is maybe a more fitting end.
@@dbsagacious Oh yeah it is way more intense and dark, I like it more than this one but I understand why they used this version.
@@dbsagacious I agree. For a long time I remembered it as THE ending -- it just fit so much better and meshed with the rest of the film's themes, etc. When I later found out that I'd been remembering the alternate ending, I had a hard time believing it!
The alternate ending is better. But its darker
@@dbsagacious I hated the alternate ending. I don't think it fit at all. If I watched that ending the theaters I'd be thinking WTF after. Like i'm for dark endings(like the The Mist) but this one just seems dumb and meh.
it's a brilliant movie 1 of my favourites
the true ending what the director intended was so much darker. the true ending is that he realised the only way to save the world is that he never exists and so he goes back in time into the womb and strangles himself with his own umbilical cord. that's why his mum keeps having terminations and dead babies because they keep going back and killing themselves to save the world from their horrible power
Best and only ending I've watched
My favorite movie of my entire life ❤️. not only because of what blew my mind from the first time I saw it, but also because of the sensitive topics it touches on. I hope it is well translated, I am from Argentina and I do not speak English very well 🙏
your favorite movie of your current timeline...
Yeah I saw it with my grandmother (of all people) when it first came out
@@bvbxiong5791 in another timeline maybe it's twilight i love my current timeline ❤️🙏
@@nsasupporter7557 ❤️
I think you would like the movie called Everything Everywhere All At Once.
the best thing about this movie it is that, it have like 4 different endings and in one of them at the end of the movie, evan and Kayleigh go out together when tey encounter each other
I had no business seeing this movie as a 9 yr old. Lol, but so glad I did cause when I rewatched it at 13-16, it became one of my favorite movies to this day and I’m 27. I didn’t even realize they had 3 different endings.
Saaame! I watched this at a family barbecue when I was like 7 lol now 26 and it still blows my mind, I remember being tripped out on Tommy in the movie theater scene 😂
This is a MASTERPIECE ❤💔
this is the way that Ashton should have followed for his career
One of the few movies I have never watched more than once. It is just too heartbreaking at some points to see more than one time. Very good but so sad.
I know some people like it(i don't) but I'm glad they didn't watch the alternate ending. I love the theatrical ending more. It's a happy ending but not a Hollywood ending like Evan and Kaylee ending up together instead of just passing by each other. Saw this in the theaters and it still one of my favs.
Want to know what is more emotional that this movie? Watching The Homies cry 😥
This is one of my favorite movies. A timeless masterpiece. From the actors and directors, to the soundtrack. Beautiful movie and a good reaction video. Thanks, ladies. I appreciate this review. ❤
I'm surprised they didn't use the ending where he talks to her at the end. That's the best ending I think, such a good movie 🙂
Probably felt it would've been too "feel good" for a movie like this. But I like that ending too.
This is an underrated film by Ashton Kutcher! Glad you ladies picked this film to watch.
The first half of this movie is the most damn tragic first half of any movie ever. A dog gets burned alive, pedophillic r@pe, a mother and her baby get blown up, and the main character's best friend kills herself. This is a fantastic movie, but man, it starts out depressing as hell.
Omg I never saw this ending before. The ending I saw on Netflix was when Evan went back in time to when his mother was pregnant with him and killed himself as a baby in the womb by wrapping the umbilical chord around his neck
That's the same ending I had on the dvd years ago, I've never seen this footage of him after in the street etc
I don't understand why Evan didn't rewind the dynamite letterbox event one more time by instead of trying to get to the dynamite he should've stood away with others from it or go with Tommy to save the family. This way he would have got a timeline similar to his no-hand timeline but instead he has hands and he is with Kayleigh and his mother wouldn't have a reason to smoke.
It's nice to see sincere feelings, the girls were silent for most of the film.))👏
The director's cut ending is even crazier. Love y'all's reaction. 🙂
This is better than any horror movie 😆
This IS a horror movie in a way...
Still a wild movie after all these years.
27:50 What a cute dog omg :D
There is a Butterfly Effect 2 & 3 that feature different characters but the same plot concept. They are interesting to watch.
Finally some reaction channel watches this masterpiece, thank you! I haven't seen this in 17 years.
Here's another movie like this:
Love Me If You Dare
Original title: Jeux d'enfants
2003
R
1h 33m
As adults, best friends Julien and Sophie continue the odd game they started as children -- a fearless competition to outdo one another with daring and outrageous stunts. While they often act out to relieve one another's pain, their game might be a way to avoid the fact that they are truly meant for one another.
Starring:
Guillaume Canet
Marion Cotillard
Another good time travel is DEJA’VU starring Denzel Washington and A classic 70’s movie called TIME AFTER TIME
I get so sad when Evan travels back to get Kayleigh to hate him, it’s tragic but so selfless. The background theme and watching all the memories fade makes it even sadder
Almost all of the movies in the USA up to about 2014ish are solid gold. After that movies went woke and we rarely see any good movies here in the states anymore. Please react to "The Ghost and the Darkness" with Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas. You will like it.
I start to follow Ellie and this channel with this movie in her first reaction. Nice reaction of one of my fav movie
All trouble Evan went through, and solution for ALL troubles was simple.....NOT meeting Kayleigh ☹
Start your Journal with me and my friends watching a movie today it's called The Butterfly Effect
I love how unprepared you were for this movie. All excited "yay Ashton Kutcher movie" and I was thinking... not that kind of movie. Waiting for the bomb to drop. Really fun reaction and in my opinion the best version. They made several endings the most morbid of them he went back to his mom's pregnancy and killed himself in the womb.
My first time seeing this was the Director's Cut. The ending hit so damn hard that I had to excuse my 20yo ass outside to have an honest to God cry. I had no idea that something could draw that out of me at my age. So memorable a film. A few years later I caught it again on TV, but this one had an alternate ending that I guessed was in the Theater (City sidewalk, the glance, Oasis song). I stood there thinking great song, but not nearly as good an ending. Doesn't exactly tie up the point of the story so firmly. So whenever I have a chance to recommend this flick to anyone, I always suggest the Director's Cut.
Everything he escapes from is still happening, just his consciousness is transported elsewhere. Meaning he's still getting beat to death in prison, he's just not there to experience it.
That depends on which hypothesis you believe. If you believe in the multiverse, then he’s jumping universes and what was happening still happens.
If you believe in just one universe, then he can’t be getting beat to death in prison if he was never sent there to begin with, so it never happened.
Either hypothesis can be correct, but the multiverse hypothesis kinda cheapens it a bit because everything that happened would have happened anyway, as with the multiverse everything that can happen, does happen, all branches of every choice we’ve ever made.
I've seen this with a different ending where Evan kills himself at his mother's womb and everybody else get's a good life then.
1. I had absolutely no idea this movie even existed. I only saw one scene years ago but I never realized it was from that movie. That scene was where Ashton as a kid told that other kid he’d kill her and her whole damn family. When I first saw that scene, I thought he was just being a dick but now I realize he was being a dick for, in his case, the greater good.
2. If Moon Sugar was there, she’d definitely advise you girls not to change the past cuz according to her, they give life lessons, good or bad. I mean, she already advised it to Trixy Blue before during Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind.
3. I’m actually surprised you met up wit Ashton Kutcher. Everybody in That 70’s Show (if all y’all ever heard bout that show, let alone seen the show, that is) always mentioned how much of a dumb ass he was but apparently, I heard word he actually did some smart shit before.
4. You girls are absolutely right. We cannot change the past but we definitely can change the future.
This was a fantastic ending, yet, the directors cut ending heightened those emotions further. That was more heartbreaking and expressed further self-sacrifice
The “director’s cut” ending was the original ending and it was redone because it was absolutely beyond stupid as hell. This was a classic win for test audiences and the producers actually listening and making a change.
@@zimvader25 Yea the theatrical ending makes way more sense instead of baby suicide. Evan already tried suicide and was saved by Tommy why would he try it again in the womb and how does a baby have consciousness to kill them selves on purpose in the womb. I also think there's more of a chance of Evan's mom still having a Birthday party on tape then Evan's birth.
This movie explains like traumas and violence when you re a child can change your mind and your future This movie teaches also that sometimes the victim became the killer Tommy in other scenaries Is a good boy.
At least this movie teaches that we are now what happened to us as children
In the ending he proved his love for his mother and girlfriend
There's An Alternate Ending Where Goes Back When He's About To Be Born, Ends Up Sacrifices Himself & Dies. That Was A Deep Ending.
For a comedy reaction that has Ashton Kutcher, (dude where’s my car) is a good one with him and Sean William Scott ha ha
The ending is actually very happy compared to the alternate ending that I saw, where Even kills himself as a child to end it all.
its so good, and there are alternative endings by the way
One of my favorites.
Messed up my brain when i was 14.
It's a masterpiece. One little thing can change it all. Spooky af. One of the best made spooky movies out there.
directors cut is better
It's kinda a dumb question but did you guys ever watch the series "that 70's show"? Ashton Kutcher main show

@36:15
Note the womens reactions in facial tones when Ashton is describing every detail he knows about her? Not to sound cheesy…but women do pay attention to those small details and you can see it in their reactions.
Bravo acting from Kutcher
You can watch "Mr. Nobody"
there are 4 finals, this final, director final, happy final, and other final.
Check out the movie The Jacket from 2005. It’s pretty much the opposite of the butterfly effect.
You need to do a reaction to watching the directors cut with the alternate ending. It makes way more sense than the theatrical version and has the most unexpected conclusion.
Be sure to film your reaction.
A ver deep movie that should be rated so much higher !!!
I great lesson on the many choices we all make !! 🤔
You girls really feel it emotionally
If you like movies about time, there is one named: Vanishing Time: A boy who returned. It's a korean movie
Another movie similar to this is “Identity” with John Cusack from 2003. I say it’s similar because it’s also a “mind fuck” like Butterfly Effect. It’s more of a “horror movie” though
Oh ur reactions were so beautiful! ❤❤❤❤😢
If you want something similar to this, watch Vanilla Sky!
Minor plot hole in the movie when he goes back in time while in prison and returns to the present with the injuries to his hands. If he changed the past, that would mean he always had those scars so his cellmate would not have noticed a change because he came into the prison with those scars.
Also doesn't make any sense that he was in prison already. If he was still awaiting trial, he'd be in a county jail. On an even sadder note, no one is going to warn you that you're going to be assaulted in prison. They just do it.
I would recommend The Adam Project. It has similar themes and just a fantastic movie.
great reaction ladies I absolutely love this movie!
Ellie barely talked all movie, was she ok? 😉
it only means that's how good this was
She saw it before, but I think they deleted it or something, because I cant find it
Ive watched this movie for years! Wanted to watch peoples reaction to it and i noticed something while watching this reaction. You guys didnt even mention it all but i legit just noticed that evan ends up in a mental hospital at the end based on constantly changing the past. who else was in a mental hospital? his damn dad who had the same thing as evan! how the hell did i not ever think about that and ive watched this at least 10 times mostly showing it to friends and fam.
I just notice that that in all of the timelines his mother always suffers 😢
Next (2007) is similar to this but action genre
Ladies there are multiple movies called the butterfly effect
Beautiful reaction, it's one of my favorites, the ending always makes me cry... there are several alternative endings, they can all be searched and seen on youtube but in my opinion I think the one that stayed in the movie is the most correct. The feature films about time travel are the ones I enjoy the most, another highly recommended on the subject is "the time machine" from 2002, I highly recommend them.
whats strange at the moment is I'm having my own mandela effect after watching this I swear the scene where he kills himself in the womb was the one kept in the film
@@Edwin.X SERIOUSLY? For the longest time I thought I had misremembered! I guess I agree with the director, then: that ending definitely fit the movie better.
I’d consider the suicide ending to be the best. It’s dark as hell, yes, but it also has the most emotional impact. There’s nothing wrong with the theatrical ending, it doesn’t kill the movie or anything, but it’s a neutral ending for the most part. I don’t feel losing the girl as enough of a downside compared to the forces he was screwing with. That’s why I consider the umbilical cord ending to be better, it’s his ultimate price for messing with forces he didn’t understand and shouldn’t have been messing with in the first place.
@@Edwin.X ah fair I must of had the DC dvd and it was the chosen ending. Like how they ruined Terminator 2 with the Skynet Edition with the future scene, instead of the original ending of sarah connors monologue with the road in view
FINALLY!!!! WHAT A MOVIE
I suggest you watch David Lynch's movie "Elephant Man" from 1980, a heartbreaking masterpiece with eight Oscar nominations.
"Right guys?" is kid-speak for "Go along with my lie".
The Director's Cut has the original ending which I think is the best.
12 Monkeys is a great film and similar to this
I’m so glad you got this end version of the film. There is an alternative ending… where he goes into the womb and strangles himself with his own umbilical cord so he can’t be born and meet her… it badly affects his mother though, totally tragic ending. I remember seeing this happier version you watched in theatre and then got the VCR and it had this ending. Then years later I bought the DVD and watched it with family and it was the sad ending and I was shouting at the end “NOOooooo that’s not what happened!!!” And had to explain to everyone that that isn’t the good ending 😂😂 I was gutted because everyone was so upset by the movie lol.
facts ....i just said this and it would of made the homies cry was more :/ lol
_This_ ending _is_ the alternative ending. The suicide ending was the one the director originally intended, and the one foreshadowed several times in the story, and a few more times in the directors cut. His mother took him to have his palm read and the fortune teller said he has no lifeline and should not be alive, which upset his mother greatly causing her confide that she never thought she would be able to conceive after a string of miscarriages. The director was forced to change the ending because it was very poorly received by the US audience in test screenings.
I actually prefer the intended ending since it actually fits the story and is more provocative and you never forget this film after seeing this version!
@@lk-music dude same! It’s supposed to be a fucked up story the lame crossing ending is extra whatever when u watch it now…totally makes u come away from the storyline n just think wow we are such pussys these days
@@lk-music very true. I do remember reading somewhere that the suicide in the womb scene was the original ending. At the time all those years ago, I was more of a romantic and preferred the other ending. Now that I am far more cynical in life lol and really like gut wrenching endings to film… I would probably prefer that original ending. 😅
watch the alternate endings guys!!!
This was a mind trip movie. Another crazy train ride mind trip is called. Donnie Darko 2001 movie 🎬
jesus... what a ride... holy god. that was intense
Guys, those who have been signed for a long time, have they watched Spielberg's AI 2001?
Interesting the ending I saw wasn't the theatrical ending, but the original ending which was very sad.
I bet they will never smiles after 5 minutes
Watch 'Donnie Darko'....kinda similar. It's a little twisted but you'll love it.
at the start dog looking at girl like where my bones lol.
The real scary part is - would you if you could. One different bit and I wouldn't have my beloved woman today. What if I never struck up that conversation over a newspaper. Whole life different.
If I ever meet Ellie or LIa I need to ask her about the Ashton Kutcher story
The directors cut original ending was really dark it has Evan commiting suicide in her mothers womb strangling himself with the umbilical cord bleak 😱
I prefer the dark alternate ending where the film he watches in the doctor's office at the end of the movie is before his own birth....
The deleted scenes are heartrending....
