This came out when I was 16 and I went to see it in the theater with my best friend. The theater was packed, she and I were so stoned, and everyone in the audience was laughing so hard and having the best time. Good memories, great movie!
I had a similar experience, lol. I was 18 and me and my friends had been to an all night rave the night before. Got back about midday and went straight to the cinema to watch this. It made the comedown from all the ecstasy seem worth it.😂

Most of our proms are not in a school. They are typically in a country club hall where weddings and other celebrations take place. The only places they would be held at a school are in very rural communities, out away from big cities.
Mine was in the school gym. The entire room was lined with black plastic to make it not look like a gym. Proms at country clubs and hotels always seemed like a “rich kids in movies” thing to me.

Here in Australia, high schools don't really have proms (at least that was the case in the 80s when I was a hs student.) I don't know about these days. We did have 'socials' at some kind of venue but I never attended one. I notice in Hollywood movies that proms seem to be a very big thing in American schools.

Was at uni at the time and me and my mates were on a bus into the city. One of them was loudly talking about MILF this and MILF that. We had to point out that American Pie was a popular movie and he wasn't using some sort of secret code.
It’s a really a shame that none of the cast became big stars… Seann William Scott who played Stifler, and Allyson Hannigan who played Michelle were the only 2 cast members who had a semi decent career

Jims dad is one of the funniest characters ever written. Every scene he's in is great. The scene where he walks in on Jim shagging the pie is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Not sure which version you watched but there are two. In one he's standing up making love to the pie, in the other he's on top of the kitchen counter missionary position LoL.

This was an era just around the time access to the internet and mobile telephones was becoming common but none of these kids would have had mobiles. The way school was and certain taboos were a bit different to now. There are some good other teen movies that came out around the same time like Road Trip, Dead Man on Campus, Cruel Intentions, Idle Hands, Van Wilder, Sex Trip, Harold and Khumar go to Whitecastle... just to name a few. They don't seem to make teen comedies anymore, but these were good times and guarantee some more laughs.
It was more or less a rebirth of the risque teen comedies that were popular in the 1980s. Animal House was one of the first films of this genre which came out in the late 70s.
My favourite line in the film: "There is going to be an Eastern European chick naked in your bedroom - of course you have to film it" 😁 Make sure you girls watch the second one at least as it is really funny too. I'd love to see all the girls react to this one. This movie came out around the time I graduated from school - super iconic.
