    Great review lads, equipment companies have lost the run of themselves, 42.5° pitching wedges, trying to con consumers (12+) hsndicappers into thinking they are hitting their 7 iron 150y when it's really a 6 and forcing people to buy 3 wedges separately to fill yardage gaps.

    • @foregolfcustom
      @foregolfcustom  Год назад +2

      Yep it’s a bit like that. The lofts have to move to line up with the very high launch angles.

      Maybe it's time governing bodies put in place a law that says "a pitching wedge must have a minimum loft of 46°" I have no issue with companies strengthening lofts. I do have an issue with the number they are stamping on the bottom of the clubs. They are making the game more difficult for amatuers who struggle to get distance from bladed wedges, my personal experience with them is the harder I hit them they just fly higher but go no further.

      It’s simple.. number on the club is no longer related to traditional convention. A 7 is the old 6.. A 7power club is the old 5..
      I play with a higher handicapper who has a far stronger set than I and hits 2 clubs less than I do on par 3s.
      The 4i is extinct, replaced by 5..

    Very good info....Just received a 5-Gap set 923 HM Pro....I swing Callaway Mac Daddy wedges (for now) 60 and 54. I'm leaving my JPX 800 Pro Gap in the bag to fill the huge hole between the 923 gap and Mac Daddy 54 ( 25-30yds) I've always played good wedges (Cleveland 588, Vokey and now Mac Daddy) Seriously thinking about looking to Mizuno to fill out my set...

    Fascinating insight guys. Well done. Will be canvassing your opinion when I switch to my next set of Mizuno to help me reach my life goal of 5 handicap. Currently 7 but will need to align my Vokey wedges with new lofts to be comprehensively dialled in.

    I have a set of HMP on order ( been waiting 3 weeks). Good discussion here on the wedges, and I noticed the same. I am used to a 50 gap wedge but ordered the set GW. And then currently have a 54 and 58. Not sure I change those just because I don’t use them for full swings. I am considering ordering Mizuno S23s which they make in every loft, could go 52, 58? I did notice though if you get the JPX SW and LW to match the JPX GW those come at 54 and 60 from Mizuno. I think Mizunos data tells them those are situational clubs. Hot metal players arent typically as worried about gapping in the wedges. Exactly as you guys are saying I went MMT 85R in 5-GW in HM Pro, better spin and height than 105S. The kick felt nice as well. I did request we try graphite, the fitter had me in steel at first

    Very informative as always … regarding the lofts and confusion regarding wedges, can’t remember which company it was, but back in the 80’s or 90’s their set was 4i - 10i plus a PW. What’s old is new again!

    Very nice review! I have the JPX 923 hot metals and bought the set GW and SW. Unfortunately, I had a gapping problem from PW to GW - about 15 - 18 yards difference. The GW and SW are different construction from the rest of the set, so that probably explains the gap problem. Had to increase the loft of each 2 degrees. So I now have PW, 48, 52, and 56. Curious to know if anyone else with the set has experienced the same problem. Cheers!

    Great review and it does make sence to get fitted now a days with the new approach to lofts...I like the MIzuno 225 Pro irons and loft, 4 thur PW but thinking I am going to weaken the 7 iron to a 31 and 8 iron to 35...the add a T-22 50 and 56 wedge...Think this will work?????

    Curious, why doesn't the 923 HL set have a 4-iron available? With the 5- iron at 25 degrees it seems like a 4 iron at 22 degrees would be a good fit. I'm sure there is a good reason.

    • @foregolfcustom
      @foregolfcustom  Год назад

      Probably golfers going into a HL set would ordinarily struggle with a 4 iron due to the low loft so defeats the purpose of high flight clubs. Mizuno must think a hybrid is a better solution for that problem.

    • @ettsn
      @ettsn 5 месяцев назад

      The HLplayer would more likely use a hybrid or a 7w for the 22 degree.

    My Honmas came with a 10 iron. Wish all other makers would just call it that instead of all these random letters!

    Great review and an excellent point made on the need to include the set gap wedge now instead of the 4i. If you change equipment manufacturer for the wedge set it’s even potentially most complicated? ..How do the lofts and launch & flights in vokeys tie in with these mizunos?

    • @foregolfcustom
      @foregolfcustom  Год назад

      Thanks just make sure you get the right lofts and shafts to tie in with the irons spec or you’ll have gaps. 👍🏻

    I was a little surprised about the talk of a gap wedge. I've had one in the bag for over 20 years now. And that is because golf has suffered from vanishing loft disease for at least 30 years now. The lob wedge is the problem. One of the most overrated clubs ever. Slow swing casual golfers should shun it. So the best thing about the HM Pro is that you have a low lofted club (22*) with enough head-weight to be built at 38 inches...the one with the number 5 stamped on the bottom. It preserves in some part the 38 of the old 24/38 rule in club building. The design and material of the head preserves somewhat the 24 part by manipulating CG and launch. Add a 46* +/- wedge to function as the PW, 50* GW and a 54* sand wedge with appropriate bounce and your problem is solved. You now still have room for a hybrid or 7ish wood.

    Hi guys! 3 questions please! Do you think the HM Pro is that much more forgiving than the Pro 225? Which is better on toe strikes? Which one has more spin?
    Thanks, Joe

    • @foregolfcustom
      @foregolfcustom  Год назад +2

      Pro 225 just a bit more forgiving.
      Both similar on toe strikes but Pro 225 better for distance control on off centre hits.
      Pro 225 higher spin rates

  • @geraldhemming

    This nonsense of taking a 5 or 6 iron and stamping a 7 on it surely has to stop. As highlighted here the pitching wedge now is actually a 9 iron so the player has to buy a real pitching wedge which the manufacturer has stamped with a G 🥴 Golf is highly regulated, the situation with these irons needs to be addressed, it's misleading at best.

    • @foregolfcustom
      @foregolfcustom  Год назад +1

      Good points made there. Sometimes the lofts on some designs has to be strengthened due to the higher launch angles at impact. We also don’t use the lofts you see on the websites as each set has its lofts adjusted to each players unique style of hit and strike so sometimes the lofts are much weaker than listed which changes the set makeup completely. I think if you are buying a set with standard lofts without adjustment then your point is very valid. Not so much with our sets. 👍🏻

    • @geraldhemming
      @geraldhemming Год назад

      @@foregolfcustom Understood, but adjusting the loft changes the bounce and thus optimal turf interaction is surely comprised? Let's reset and have standardized lofts, then we can truly judge the results of any technological advancement and have a simplified set make up.
