Hello from Oregon, USA -- thank-you for the well-produced and nicely narrated walking tour of Kathmandu. For 3 years in the mid-1970s, I lived and worked in a remote region NW of Pokhara, and would always look forward to trips into Kathmandu once or twice a year. Everything has changed a lot in the last 45 years, but your fun video brought back many good memories of a wonderful time in my life.
Thank you for your message ! I can imagine how it has changed.. It has built a lot.. When you read some books of past times in Kathmandu you realize that even more. You must have seen some amazing things at an amazing time. Glad that you enjoyed my video :)
@@nepalitanguydai -- Yes, the 70s was an amazing time to be in Nepal. I expect places to change over time, but the rapid population increase and urbanization of the Kathmandu Valley in the last 30 years or so is a bit of a shock. Kathmandu in the mid-70s had a population of only 180,000, and was surrounded by agriculture. There were few private cars and no motorcycles at all in that era, but many more bicycles and rickshaws. The exchange rate was US$1.00 = 12.45 rupees and the active Durbar Square/Ason Tole street scene was closed up and deserted by 8:00pm. Pokhara was also quite different in those years with a population of just 27,000 people and few foreign visitors. I lived about 5 hours walk NW of Pokhara, and twice hiked up to the Annapurna Sanctuary with local shepherds at a time when there were no tea houses or other tourist infrastructure. I also walked the Annapurna Circuit when it first opened to the outside in the Fall of 1977. It was a 26 day journey, and I encountered only 2 other non-Nepali people on the entire route (continuing past Jomsom into Manang). I could go on and on -- old guy here with lots of stories -- sorry lol. My (Irish) friend here in (Pacific City) Oregon *walked* from Darjiling to Kathmandu in 1948 and spent decades living in Nepal --his stories are truly amazing and make my experiences seem tame in comparison. His name is Peter Byrne should you want to Google him. Best wishes to you. Mark
Tanguy Dai, you are like a breath of fresh air. You had to be a Nepali in your past life. Your karma we're incomplete so you were born a French with a Nepali heart! God bless you! Sending lots of love from Toronto, Canada!
I'm from Darjeeling and have been living in US for many years.I've been longing to visit Nepal and hopefully settle there for good.Since the first time i went to Nepal i've always felt like home. The people, food, culture and the way of life out just hypnotises and mesmerises you.Undoubtedly the most beautiful and unique country in the world. Keep doing the good work Tanguy dai 👊🏻
13:20, this. What a wonderful video, Dai. The beautiful faces, the warmth, it's incredible. I'm moving to Nepal in March, 2023. It's my 75th birthday present to myself. I expect to spend many innings there. Your loving and peaceful demeanor so reflects the people you film. Much love.
There are many things that come to mind when people hear about Nepal. Oh...the country with the tallest peak, or the country with the Buddha, or the country with the Hindus, or the country of the mountains, the country with the momos, or the country with the Gurkhas, and many more things. But, for me, the thing that comes to my mind when I really think about my country, is its people really. How they are, how they live, and how they act, I find it really unique and refreshing. I mean I know we Nepalese are no saints, we are also filled with human agendas, our own selfish things that don't really matter in the grand scheme of things, but we still get by, we still live for another day, we still care for each other, we still live proudly, we still stand the same. So, my suggestion for Tanguy dai is to really get to know the Nepali people more and more. I mean you will start to notice how weirdly charming Nepalese really are. And, I liked your videos for sure. I finished all of them and will be rooting for your videos in the future.
@@bobmarley6161 Hell no,it might be because they aren't in large population though. But I don't think it would be any different even if there were. For us, its Nepalese first and then comes the religion. There will ovbiously those who frown upon contact with the people from other religion or sorts, but you know they are very scarce. Here, you can find more peace than in any other country though.
I fondly remember my first roommate from France who introduced me the 'salami' while I was studying in the UK. It's been nearly 18 years since then and I have moved 3 more countries, settled now in Canada, but whenever I visit supermarkets and buy some salami I always smile thinking of my French friend, Tiago. I sliced the hard salami he gave like potatoes and cooked with spices thinking it's raw. When Tiago knew that he laughed so hardly for days. Tanguy Dai, I saw you on AP1 TV and really impressed with your love and appreciation towards Nepal. I will be following your journey and wish you a great success as a vlogger. I am sure you will soon have millions of followers. 🙂
you're staying here for 6 years and I am leaving country don't know for how many years. But seeing this level of love and support to Nepal i bet every Nepalese abroad will plan to come back Nepal one day.
Thanks so much for such a warm video. Would love to watch many more. Ironically, only after having been lived in abroad for several years that I realised how rich the Nepalese culture is, and how humble we are. There's striving in people, but you never fail to see them not smiling. These are very precious and thank you for noticing this uniqueness. Bonjour and Namaste 🙏🏼😊

What’s most unique about Nepal is how diverse it is in terms of landscape, culture and religion. Despite being such a small country - the landscape goes from the low lying Terai region (the lowest) to the highest mountain in the world and it’s all within approximately 80 miles .. Hinduism/Buddhism goes hand in hand … which you don’t see in any countries in the world .. also, the religious tolerance- never heard of a religious conflicts despite the fact that there are many minority religions in Nepal .. Cultural diversity is another uniqueness- as each ethnic groups has its own culture/food/dress/language etc and still all consider themselves Bir Nepali before anything else .. !!
