tyranitararmaldo I was a tactical nightmare after the time skip, whenever I came across a former student as an enemy, I'd try and save them no matter what, cheese speed run strats were used. Chapter 17 I gave up good loot from generic mooks in order to save as many students as I possibly could. Still, seeing Claude one-round Edelgard was pretty nice.
@@TheCraftySam I tip-toed around the battlefield to get it over as quickly as possible, before any of the characters died fighting each other, let alone my forces. Lost 3 though, still stings. At least in my new-game-plus I will be able to save them.

Leonie has been MVP for 2/3 of the runs. Just started NG++ on the edelgard route and recruited her right away. She will forever be my go to Wyvern Riding Beast! Let's go Imperialism I'm gonna murder all the characters I hate. Looking at you Cyril and Hanneman.
@@BALDFURY69 umm none of the teachers go against you at least not in the edelgard route, cyril you can get but he only appears in the final battle and it's next to reah, it's a hussle so I just ignore him and focus on reah.

Seems like Dorothea, Felix, and Ignatz require B because they specifically require the stats that Byleth is already proficient with and he'll be way more advanced, but they don't want you to get those three way earlier than the others.
In addition to early Physic, Linhardt is also one of only 3 Characters to get Warp. Great pick up for the Lions, who don't have a Warp user by default.
Mercedes is a better all-around healer though. She lacks Warp but has an easier time reaching Holy Knight for that super mobile healing and her passive makes her a goddam beast of a meat shield.
@@Ashtarte3D tbh, holy Knight isn't really a requirement for healers with physic. The thing about holy Knight is that you are more of an offensive magic user since u lose +10 on healing in place of damage and canto. Characters with physic don't really need to keep up with ur units cuz physic and fortify range are so big :D
Worth mentioning if I'm correct - the other two are Manuela and Lysithea. The latter of the two you almost always want on offense. Manuela can't be picked up until a bit latter into part 1.
@@Ashtarte3D just make her as a Gremory cause that 10 physic is more than enough for a whole map and just give her Thyrsus if you want her to go offensive as it gives you +2 to offensive magic range...
And don't forget, kids. You can't use the B support strategy on Ferdinand or Caspar, their B supports with Byleth take place after the timeskip. Source: Me, I've recruited Ferdinand every run because I love him and I learned this the hard way and had to speed run H. Armor on my first go
@@finalbossd Provided you want the easy unlock, from my recollection it occurs after you've earned the B support and seen the conversation, which will always be blocked off until the 5 years have passed. Fortunately he doesn't have the high standard recruitment check so D+-C is way easier to get than C+-B
@David Saade Romano You have to legitimately obtain Caspar and Ferdinand through ranking in Gauntlets and Heavy Armor respectively. Around D+ in each with both at C support should work
No idea what you mean, Dorothea and Felix literally threw themselves at me after I had C support with them - my authority and sword stat were always the highest, guess that's the reason.

Yeah same (I know this is late but I just started playing the game recently 🙃) dorothea I got in my blue lions run and I've already gotten felix in golden deer. Boy has a boner for swords so that plus C support and hes easy to recruit
@Sakisasvictorianmask If I had to guess, the only reason they have a higher requirement is because Byleth more than likely already going to have a good sword and authority stat
@@chaikagaz Dedue and Hubert, alongside house leaders, are impossible to recruit. Mainly as it just isn't in character- Dedue and Hubert are the personal vassals of Dimitri and Edelgard respectively, and cannot simply leave their side.
From what I 've heard, you might need to raise the support Level between Byleth and Hilda, so that it reaches C before the end of chapter four. Otherwise, there won' t be any options (like giving her presents or trying to recruit her) available after talking to her. I don' t know the exact requirements, but a friend of mine chose Black Eagles and managed to recruit Hilda after reaching Support Level C in time and fulfilling the other requirements. So it is possible to recruit Hilda after choosing Black Eagles.
They need to allow you to recruit all the students including the house leaders/retainers and staff and Rhea. That way players can create their own dream teams in the game.
I'm surprised you didn't say get Petra. She is amazing. I have both perta and felix and felix is currently a level 43 mortal savant and Petra is a level 37 assassin and she is way harder to hit and crits way more frequently than felix. Petra kills almost any unit in 1 battle because she basically crits every fight. Definitely pick up petra.
Agreed. Petra is dope. Wanted to make her a bow knight, but I had no other potential thieves recruited, so that dream died pretty quickly. :( Next playthrough for sure, though.
Couldn't agree more, Petra is amazing, I'm running her as an assassin. She's possibly your best option as a finisher since she usually crits low health enemies. And Felix was my first recruit, he's a powerhouse

Honestly you really have to work to try and recruit everyone on your first playthrough, it gets SO much easier on subsequent playthroughs on new game plus. Like damn, it is ridiculous how much easier it is after your first playthrough.
Nice video! This was the first FE game that made me actually plan out classes on paper because there's so much to remember with what proficiencies you need, specifically for the master classes... not complaining though. It makes me feel like a proper professor. I really like the direction of this game.
Fun thing is with new game+ is that you can get rewards through renowm points and I did use them to immediately get A+ Professor rank and shared so many meals with everyone that well yeah I almost have everyone in my class now
For some reason Mercedes isn't joining black eagles currently on NG+ and I have a B support from my BL route I didn't get her to a A support I'm hoping she joins before 12
I want to disagree... But my first choice for the event was dedue, had a laugh, then took a previous save file and had Annette be the dancer. The temptation to do what you did was there.
On a Silver Snow playthrough and Dorothea is one of my best units. She knows METEOR. The unit that I found the most useful recruiting was Mercedes. She’s an excellent healer.
Students i did not get : Bernadetta, Lorentz, Ferdinand and Hilda I had the problem of being unable to reclass Byleth into an advanced class till he reached lvl 30 though. Maybe i should have played normal mode to be able to grind but i will see how NG+ goes when i finish BL.
@Sylvain Jose Gautier Well Raphael is definitely a monster with Gauntlets, at least for me he was. But I never really used Ignatz, however, the point still stands that Golden Deer are the best overall. Not to mention how broken Claudes final class is.
Guys, I'm playing the Blue Lion story right now & the hands down the BEST decision i have made was to recruit Petra! Make her either an Assassin or Sword Master & she will have 20+ base crit (depending on stats of course), she's super fast, dodges almost everything, and her ability is to increase crit rate if enemy is < 50% HP so if you can get a boss weak with your tank, she WILL finish them no problem. Equip her with Wao Dao or Killing Edge and you'll typically see crit rates around 70%. She also has decent Def & average Res. Petra is a beast.
An interesting event happened on my BE playthrough, idk if can happen with other characters but when I beat Lysithea in part 2, I got the chance to spare and recruit her.
@@OK-sq2ou give you back your renow that you have spent on last file and with extra renow. Then you can spent it to quickly unlock stuff from your last file like your prof level, your support level with other, skill you have learnt. Also you keep your batallion and bonus training status. Unlock support up to B allow you recruit students much faster or A to immediately recruit them.
I started my first playthrough on the alternate path and recruited every character i can. Couldnt get catherine, hilda, seteth, flayn or cycil or dudei. Im gonna try the church route new game plus but not having edelgard makes me sad

I definitely recommend Petra over Linhardt for Black Eagles, unless you need another healer in Linhardt. Petra as an assassin is basically a one woman army.
From what I read, recruiting Hilda when you don't choose Golden Deer isn't based on story choices but your house as you cannot recruit Hilda if you go Black Eagles but you can recruit her if you do Blue Lions
Did you go Church route? From what I understand, she’s recruitable only in THAT small window of time, between siding with the Church and the time skip itself.
I was already planning on doing this in my Golden Deer run, neat! Also, in NG+, you can basically buy weapon ranks, so don’t be afraid to branch out different weapon ranks and just buy them in the next playthrough so you can focus on new weapons afterward.
People probably already know this, but apparently you can recruit Catherine for free (I think it’s only in BL/GD route as I wasn’t able to in BE) Edit: Recruited Hilda in BL route. It works (it only started working after Gatier Inheritance tho)
wait till you try to use Edelgard, she can tank both physical and magical and 1 hit all enemies at the same time, you can send her alone and destroy the whole map without any help specially with her crest which is the same sa Byleth that occasionally life steal the damage that she makes which activates almost all the time, she is arguably the best melee character in the game other than Byleth that can 1 hit from early to end game maps, sadly she is locked in BE and I'm pretty sure she is locked with Hubert cause you can't even buy their support level in the renown shop in newgame+, I'm playing BL now as my 2nd playthought and I gotta say Sylvain and Felix are way better than Dimitri in melee department, heck Ingrid outshines him in that regards as well
Just FYI, easiest way to do this is to use female byleth and choose golden deer. Sylvain joins just cuz you chose female byleth and you need no supports or skills or at least extremely low (not 100% sure) Also golden deer is the only house that doesn't have a character you can't recruit other than claude. Everyone but him can be recruited. There is no retainer. So if you choose female byleth and golden deer you can't recruit edelgard, dimitri, hubert, and dedue. And let's just assume you got sylvain already. That's only 11 students you actually have to try for instead of black Eagles with 12 and blue lions with 13.
Edgellatin XIV what do you mean? Each house has 8 characters. If you pick black eagles you get all 8 of them and Sylvain for free, but you still have to recruit the remaining 5 students in blue lions and 7 students from golden deer. That's one extra student for you to recruit as opposed to choosing golden deer, getting all 8 students, Sylvain for free, the remaining 5 from blue lions but only 6 from black Eagles.
Uh....yes. from there it's just a matter of recruiting as best you can which isn't too hard tbh. What is this "having the most characters" complaint. I'm not really getting it. You start out with 8 if you choose blue lions and 9 if you choose the other two due to free sylvain. Am I wrong? It's not like the black Eagles have more total students. Every house has 8. From there you go and recruit the others. Blue lions you will have the most to make up for with 13. Black Eagles have 12 and golden deer have 11. Therefore with everything else being equal, the golden deer female byleth route has you needing to do the least work.
Hilda is only available in the Church Black Eagles route from what I've experienced. She never gave the option to give gifts or lost items for me until after the Eagles route split. I really had to grind out supports to get her.
I got Hilda on BL around month 9-10. I got to B rank with her, (A rank timelocked) and asked her to join my team twice. She denied both times, then requested to join randomly during the week. Best unit I have right now, by far. Also had no axe skill, and only increased charm twice.
Guys, don't bother with the skill requirements. INSTEAD - 1. Look up supports for each of your house members. 2. Have them eat dinner with you and another character from a different house they have supports with. 3. You build support with your house member AND the outsider. 4. Once support reaches B, they will ask to join you regardless of your skill level. Notes: 1. Your house members might only have supports with 1-3 outside house members, its a good idea to designate a lunch partner that is unique to them that they will always lunch with until your rank is B. 2. Supports between your own house members will be sufficiently built via battle. 3. Invite a member from a different house and assign them as your adjuntant, this will build support between you and this character without sapping experience from the rest of your team.
Or...do both? Idk why you have to discredit everything I say here when I say in the video you realistically want to mix and match both, and even link a video that shows you how to do the other things so I don't have to go over it lmfao.
@@jaeaik You seriously dilute and weaken your main character by spreading out your skills AND waste precious points on useless faculty training which could be used for teatime and dinners. You literally cannot do both if you want to recruit everyone.
@@Mephil I would be inclined to agree if exploring the monastery was the entire game. But it's a waste of time to spend drinking tea with someone like Felix if your already in a class that shows profiency in swords. I can see how this could be useful for someone like Ferdinand, Raphael, Ingrid, all profiencies that most people won't likely spec into, but if your already in said class, then why would I waste my time drinking tea with them, and slinging gifts at them. And it's not like I don't mention it, i mention by name someone whose made a video guide on how you can maximize opportunities with other students not in your house in a great way, so I just simply don't go over it. So yes. You do want to do both.
this really helps and is actually a way faster method. i already recruited sylvain, ashe, ferdinand and dorothea using this method (and declined linhard!) and im only a few months in while my boyfriend only managed recruiting sylvain bc he focused on raising his stats for the characters.
just do a B level Support for the character you want to recruit and his or her requirements falls down to Skill D with 10+ to the particular stats, it's easy to farm Skill lvls in normal cause of the free maps but in hard you have to be mindful of how to spend you time in explorations but it's really doable to recruit all recruitable characters before the time skip happens, it's even made more easy in newgame+ as you can buy skill lvls and Support lvls respectively...
I just explore first week of the month and grind out battles for the rest of the month, otherwise you will severely be underleveled for the next battle
@@chaikagaz if you're doing hard then it's understandable BUT not recommended, if you're doing normal then 1 week per month for battles is enough unless you're doing paralogue and quest battles, you're missing out on A LOT if you only do exploration once a month, first off you cannot lvl your professor lvl properly, most of your activities in exploration gives you prof exp, when you do battles you don't get prof exp, the higher the prof lvl the more you can do in this game. next is support lvl and recruitment, you cannot build enough support lvl outside your house so you have less chance to recruit, specially since you have low prof lvl having less activity points, next is dunning, most people don;t know the importance of dinning, it gives you prof exp, it gives you bond and in maxes the motivation of the students, it's import if you want to focus on a student you want on instructing and you can focus on the characters you want to bond with, lastly getting instructions from other prof to lvl skills outside of battles, mount and armor skill in particular cannot be gained in battles if you don't have the proper class for it, to get that class you need to lvl the minimum skill required, not to mention some characters require those said skills to recruit... this game is easy even on hard if you compare it to other FE games if you're having a difficult fight on missions the best thing you need to do is over lvl Byleth he/she will dominate any maps alone unless there is a turn limit
i have just recruited every single black eagle unit on my golden deer playthrough without even trying to do so ... i just recruited the 3 characters that i wanted and it just so happened that i also got the stats needed for the other students
A couple of other considerations: 1.) Leonie is one of the best potential cavaliers in the game as far as I can see. Her growth spread and base stats are great, she has no skill weaknesses, and her personal skill is very good. One of the best potential bow knights if your current roster is lacking in mounted units. 2.) Annette is a highly underrated student because she learns RECOVER (a surprisingly rare white magic) fairly early. If you look at the spell lists for the characters, Annette and Lorenz are the only students that both a) get Recover and b) have a decent Magic base/growth to utilize it fully. (Byleth can learn recover as well). Annette's black and white magic spell lists also contain useful spells like Abraxis (white) and Excalibur (black). Recover is the big one, because late-game characters have large HP pools and enemy attacks start dealing lots of damage. If you think you're going to be short on healing or need more magic nukage, consider recruiting Annette. The only downside is that she doesn't get Physic. (Mercedes seems to be a popular choice because of both Physic and Fortify, but she doesn't get Excalibur or Recover. Getting both of them wouldn't be a bad idea.) Anyway, that's my two cents.
IMO best to do a "gotta recruit them all" run after you play through all the paths normally. I screwed myself over with one of the paths by doing a recruit them all run.
I’ve been recruiting students by whose prologues come first to give more time to finish them and to not to miss out on prologues that occur pre-timeskip. They also join at the same level as the recommended level for the month’s mission/prologues and it makes it easier so you don’t have to train them up. * Make sure to at least C support Rhea before the Timeskip to unlock her post-Timeskip prologue. Her B support also has to be unlocked before Chapter 10, S support before Chapter 12 if you want to romance her/ have the conversations. Also in my GD playthrough, seeing Caspar and Ferdinand’s B supports are locked after the Timeskip. If they are not in your house, B support with D+ required skill level or C support with a lower skill level (not sure if D) were required. I was able to recruit everyone else automatically at B supports with some more gifts (if my required skill was E+ or lower) or automatically/randomly during the calendar progression. I highly recommend recruiting via meals/gifts/chior vs faculty teaching/tea time bc you build prof level faster I was able to unlock all possible GD prologues and recruit everyone via this method. Maybe minor potential spoilers Im not sure if anyone else got this but on Edelgard's path post timeskip I was able to recruit Lysithea during battle where after defeating her it gave me the option of recruiting or killing her
Spoilers. Every house can recruit a student for free post-timeskip after beating them in battle with Byleth. You cannot unlock any supports with Byleth if you do so, however. The Black Eagles get Lysithea, Blue Lions get Lorenz, and Golden Deer get Ashe.
The easiest way to think about recruitment requirements is by the following (not from how it's described in the video). ALL students aside from a select few can be recruited using the following method: B rank support, D rank in the skill they want The exceptions to this are if the student wants Sword, Brawling, OR Authority. Since Byleth starts with these at a higher level than E, they require higher levels in the skill along with B support for the recruitment. Sword -> C+ rank Brawling -> D+ rank Authority -> C rank 2 students to make note of are Caspar and Ferdinand. Both can't be B supported prior to the timeskip, so they need an additional level in their skill for recruitment. And that's all there is to it. If you don't want to grind to B rank support, add an additional level to the skill. Ex: D+ instead of D.

the only thing to add is that if you allied with the black eagles there are some unit that just will not join up with you like Hilda and a few member of the church.
5:10 Dude! Bernie, Ferdinand, and Petra are all monsters on the field! Esp. Petra early game and Bernie and Ferdinand late game. Pair them up with Dorothea's Meteor spell and Ingrid's flying skills, and you have the dream team!
It's actually pretty easy to recruit everyone. You can just use all reputation points that you get in the beginning and push all your stats to level B and that's pretty much it.
Not that easy buddy. You need to actually level them up organically to level B first before purchasing levels using renown. It take's multiple playthroughs to get every state to level B organically.
I love classic Shadow Dragon and Sacred Stone, but this one makes me almost cry of joy. Such a great and unsual game, I love social elements, that what makes it second favorite rpg series for me after Persona. But I think it is quite easier than its precedors. Thank you kindly for you guide, although I usually did everything by my own it is nice to understand why Sylvain joined me xD
If you're gonna recruit lysithea, It's a safe bet that you'll want to recruit lorenz too. if only for access to his paralogue chapter which rewards you with thyrsus, an equippable wand that works with the crest of gloucester, and gives lysithea an extra 3 range on attacks, which really helps with her low move and defenses, on top of making her that much more of a threat.
I waited until the final day of school before something happens and recruited everybody except the unrecruitable people of course Edit: so I missed alot of supports...
I think I had a D in brawling when I recruited Caspar. This and Chaz's videos definitely helped. Next run (going Lions again, fite me) I'm taking Lysethia as well.
hot tip when you want your lysithea to be even stronger think about also recruiting lorenz. It can help you "negate" the problem that lysithea is the glassiest of cannons.
If you are in Edelgard's route heres two tips, don't make flayn your dancer in the dancing event. And the other is lisithea apparently joins you automatically some time later in the story, i didn't have time to recruit her but she joined me herself, no proficiency requirement and my support for her wasn't even C. I heard it was similar for hilda joining you in church and blue lions route.
It's not fair that only ladies get a freebie(Sylvain). It would be cool if Bernadetta was the freebie for the dudes. There are only 2 people that she is comfortable with, Alois and Byleth. It would make sense from a story standpoint if she transferred to Byleth's class to feel safer.
I mean... Petra, Hilda, and Leonie all make great early fliers too. I'd argue Ingrid plays a bit too strongly into the Pegasus Knight archetype for her own good, since it's very easy for her Str and/or HP and Def to fall behind or not not start growing soon enough to be very viable until you're reaching the Advanced class level range anyway, so the early flight capability ends up a bit wasted. Actually, on that note, Hilda can quite easily be trained to go straight from Pegasus Knight to Wyvern Rider, and then have her pick of which Master class to go with (or do both if you have the time), if one so desires to heave full time flying unit. Other girls might struggle raising both the Spear and Axe skills needed, but you can probably manage with any other of three as well, Hilda is just the easiest since she has the best weapon strengths and Str to work with early on to make those early levels more productive in battle. I imigine she might be the only viable early game flying unit candidate, if any, once the harder difficulties come out. Although, Petra's or Leonie's personal skills can both come quite in handy for getting kills. Bottom line, I spent way too long rambling about how hard actually raising/using an early game Pegasus Knight usually is.
I'm sad because because I didnt know you could talk to them in battle and have them live and join you.... i killed them by using other units to approach and not the professor. I'm starting over now... because I didnt make multiple saves stupidly.
Josiah Collins WHAT. I had good support with Lysithea and I was able to spare her on the Black Eagles route, yet I wasnt able to save Ingrid, even though i had a good support with her
I guess you also need a higher stat then E if you want to recruit a character with a B support. I had Raphael on B, but he wouldn't join my class, since Byleth had E in armour. Leonie joined as soon as I hit E+ or D
did u start a ng+? that's the only way I can see how u could had recruited hilda into black eagles. I have her on B rank im black eagles and she still hasn't joined me
I have S with her and will update if I get her on the BE-empire route. (I used NG+ after B rank) I can confirm there is NO WAY to get Hilda on the Empire-route. Even when you buy S rank with NG+ it isnt possible.
Honestly, if you're doing your first playthrough, I recommend that you don't recruit anyone from other houses. It makes the game harder and has more impact post timeskip
I'm on my second Black Eagles playthrough and I recruited everyone except Annette. Idc if she joins or not. Felix, Bernadetta, Lysithia, Leonie, Sylvain, Petra, Caspar, Catherine and Hilda are heavy hitters. Too op for this game
I'm Black Eagle house, and personally I made Ferdinand a Paladin, as if built right he will then have a high movement rate and high evasion. Making him very useful for the front lines.
My strategy is to get who I want first so I can spend my time leveling them up in the way that I want first; after, I wait until the last moment and run around recruiting everyone else. This way, I don't get overwhelmed with prospects and start neglecting the characters I will be using as well as letting The Battle of the Eagle and Lion really hit home.
Wow, that was very clear, at the moment I was watching the video, I'm only missing 1 student I really want to recruit, I'm having a lot of fun with the monastery and stuff.
if you play on normal you can recruit them all(as in all the recruitables) First play through I'm in the month 2/22 and got all but 5.(Leonie, Caspar, Ferninand, Raph and Gilbert) mainly because I didn't focus on recruiting, with a more focused run it could be do-able on the normal difficulty when you can use extra battles to boost some stats. Key is increasing support levels to lower requirements for recruiting.
Honestly I would only recruit Ashe for Locktouch, as he has been useless in my BL playthrough. Ingrid however is a great pickup if you lack mobility, or need a flyer as she is naturally proficient in this area. Same for Bernie, if you need mobility or a bow wielder she makes a perfect Bow Knight.
i recommend recruiting marianne, because she's suicidally depressed and she's the only character in the game that doesn't show up after the timeskip in any of the routes unless you have her in your class also she heals good i guess
@@tori_amelie4618 considering how starved i was for healers early on in my black eagles playthrough, and the fact that the game steals flayn from you if you side with edelgard, i'd say recruiting a second healer is necessary there unless you wanna power level dorothea's faith
No, no. it's C+ in skills across the board. I tested this with Renown Points. I have a video on my channel where I recruit nearly everyone outside my house. It's C+ in the desired Skill, and C in the Support Level. OR D+ in the Skill with B Support. There is no difference in the students.
I got Felix to recruitment right after Sylvain joined 🤔 I’d never done any support crap with either of them but my Blythe was almost maxed for sword specs
To add to this for people who have beaten at least one path already You can play Newgame+ after you beat a path and use leftover renown in the new game to buy support levels. So you can recruit the people you made relationships with from the house of the last playthrough for the new one while focusing on using your time to recruit people from the other house So if you say played Blue Lion's already and are playing Golden Deer you can for example buy support for say Felix to then recruit him (If you had the person at said support levels from the save you are Game+ing off of) Same with buying skill points if you so wish to also recruit people, like you can buy the skill stats for characters (Given you had them at said levels from the save you are Game+ing off of) I hope this helps people with their quest
well buying support lvl is an option but it's something you would not do on an early NG+ cause your renown is only ever enough for your prof lvl, which is more important, you can do support lvl C to B with roughly 6-7 perfect Tea Party which is better than spending 400 renown... the only support lvl worth really spending on is with Hilda for both BE and BL, her support lvl is the most annoying part of this whole game...
While you certainly CAN recruit as many as you want, it may not work in your favor to do so. There are rarely any maps that even allow you to deploy more than 10 characters, and that is even taking Byleth and the house lord into account.
Dorothea was the only student I recruited on my first playthrough (Blue Lions) because I didn't understand how recruiting worked and she was the only one who asked to join my house

Getting students is not based on supports but on affinity points. But since affinity points are still used to affect supports, you can still use supports as a way to gauge things.
Some of the characters are not 15-20 stats.
Hilda for instance is 30 Charm/C in Axe (unavailable after chapter 12 for the church route)
Sylvain is 25 Charm/C in Reason
Dorothea is 25 Charm/B in Authority

Once you get support level b you need very little in the skills. So don't waste faculty training on skills you won't use.
Hilda will not join black eagles no matter what. You cant even give her lost items and gifts. Blue lions have a small window to get her.
Petra is my best unit and her growths are amazing. She should def be grabbed from the eagles If you are weird and arent playing BE. BLACK EAGLES FOR LIFE.

tyranitararmaldo I was a tactical nightmare after the time skip, whenever I came across a former student as an enemy, I'd try and save them no matter what, cheese speed run strats were used. Chapter 17 I gave up good loot from generic mooks in order to save as many students as I possibly could. Still, seeing Claude one-round Edelgard was pretty nice.

Seems like Dorothea, Felix, and Ignatz require B because they specifically require the stats that Byleth is already proficient with and he'll be way more advanced, but they don't want you to get those three way earlier than the others.

In addition to early Physic, Linhardt is also one of only 3 Characters to get Warp. Great pick up for the Lions, who don't have a Warp user by default.

Mercedes is a better all-around healer though. She lacks Warp but has an easier time reaching Holy Knight for that super mobile healing and her passive makes her a goddam beast of a meat shield.
@@Ashtarte3D tbh, holy Knight isn't really a requirement for healers with physic. The thing about holy Knight is that you are more of an offensive magic user since u lose +10 on healing in place of damage and canto. Characters with physic don't really need to keep up with ur units cuz physic and fortify range are so big :D
Worth mentioning if I'm correct - the other two are Manuela and Lysithea. The latter of the two you almost always want on offense. Manuela can't be picked up until a bit latter into part 1.
@@Ashtarte3D just make her as a Gremory cause that 10 physic is more than enough for a whole map and just give her Thyrsus if you want her to go offensive as it gives you +2 to offensive magic range...
And don't forget, kids. You can't use the B support strategy on Ferdinand or Caspar, their B supports with Byleth take place after the timeskip.

Fortunately he doesn't have the high standard recruitment check so D+-C is way easier to get than C+-B

Hilda can't join in Edelgard's path, she is able to join you in chapter 12 in the church route and dimitri route.

Hilda can actually be recruited as normal in the Blue Lions route, I'm only a couple months in but already have recruited her.
@@chaikagaz Dedue and Hubert, alongside house leaders, are impossible to recruit. Mainly as it just isn't in character- Dedue and Hubert are the personal vassals of Dimitri and Edelgard respectively, and cannot simply leave their side.

From what I 've heard, you might need to raise the support Level between Byleth and Hilda, so that it reaches C before the end of chapter four. Otherwise, there
won' t be any options (like giving her presents or trying to recruit her) available after talking to her. I don' t know the exact requirements, but a friend of mine chose Black Eagles and managed to recruit Hilda after reaching Support Level C in time and fulfilling the other requirements. So it is possible to recruit Hilda after choosing Black Eagles.
They need to allow you to recruit all the students including the house leaders/retainers and staff and Rhea. That way players can create their own dream teams in the game.
If anything, in NG+
I'm surprised you didn't say get Petra. She is amazing. I have both perta and felix and felix is currently a level 43 mortal savant and Petra is a level 37 assassin and she is way harder to hit and crits way more frequently than felix. Petra kills almost any unit in 1 battle because she basically crits every fight. Definitely pick up petra.

Agreed. Petra is dope. Wanted to make her a bow knight, but I had no other potential thieves recruited, so that dream died pretty quickly. :( Next playthrough for sure, though.
Couldn't agree more, Petra is amazing, I'm running her as an assassin. She's possibly your best option as a finisher since she usually crits low health enemies. And Felix was my first recruit, he's a powerhouse

Honestly you really have to work to try and recruit everyone on your first playthrough, it gets SO much easier on subsequent playthroughs on new game plus.

Nice video! This was the first FE game that made me actually plan out classes on paper because there's so much to remember with what proficiencies you need, specifically for the master classes... not complaining though. It makes me feel like a proper professor. I really like the direction of this game.
I didn't realize that you could recruit more than one unit from each house, so i picked Ashe and Bernadetta, cause they both needed protection.
The idea is to recruit all of them when needed because you're gonna need more units in battle when on the field.

Fun thing is with new game+ is that you can get rewards through renowm points and I did use them to immediately get A+ Professor rank and shared so many meals with everyone that well yeah I almost have everyone in my class now

You can't require her if you do BE-Empire route. You can in BE-Church but only after you made the decision.

On a Silver Snow playthrough and Dorothea is one of my best units. She knows METEOR. The unit that I found the most useful recruiting was Mercedes. She’s an excellent healer.

I had the problem of being unable to reclass Byleth into an advanced class till he reached lvl 30 though.
Maybe i should have played normal mode to be able to grind but i will see how NG+ goes when i finish BL.

Guys, I'm playing the Blue Lion story right now & the hands down the BEST decision i have made was to recruit Petra! Make her either an Assassin or Sword Master & she will have 20+ base crit (depending on stats of course), she's super fast, dodges almost everything, and her ability is to increase crit rate if enemy is < 50% HP so if you can get a boss weak with your tank, she WILL finish them no problem. Equip her with Wao Dao or Killing Edge and you'll typically see crit rates around 70%. She also has decent Def & average Res. Petra is a beast.
She ACCIDENTALLY 1 shotted the flame emperor & death knight on multiple chapters when i was trying to train weaker units lmao

An interesting event happened on my BE playthrough, idk if can happen with other characters but when I beat Lysithea in part 2, I got the chance to spare and recruit her.

What does new game + exactly do
@@OK-sq2ou give you back your renow that you have spent on last file and with extra renow. Then you can spent it to quickly unlock stuff from your last file like your prof level, your support level with other, skill you have learnt. Also you keep your batallion and bonus training status. Unlock support up to B allow you recruit students much faster or A to immediately recruit them.

I started my first playthrough on the alternate path and recruited every character i can.
Couldnt get catherine, hilda, seteth, flayn or cycil or dudei. Im gonna try the church route new game plus but not having edelgard makes me sad

I definitely recommend Petra over Linhardt for Black Eagles, unless you need another healer in Linhardt. Petra as an assassin is basically a one woman army.
From what I read, recruiting Hilda when you don't choose Golden Deer isn't based on story choices but your house as you cannot recruit Hilda if you go Black Eagles but you can recruit her if you do Blue Lions

Did you go Church route? From what I understand, she’s recruitable only in THAT small window of time, between siding with the Church and the time skip itself.

I was already planning on doing this in my Golden Deer run, neat! Also, in NG+, you can basically buy weapon ranks, so don’t be afraid to branch out different weapon ranks and just buy them in the next playthrough so you can focus on new weapons afterward.
People probably already know this, but apparently you can recruit Catherine for free (I think it’s only in BL/GD route as I wasn’t able to in BE)
Edit: Recruited Hilda in BL route. It works (it only started working after Gatier Inheritance tho)

wait till you try to use Edelgard, she can tank both physical and magical and 1 hit all enemies at the same time, you can send her alone and destroy the whole map without any help specially with her crest which is the same sa Byleth that occasionally life steal the damage that she makes which activates almost all the time, she is arguably the best melee character in the game other than Byleth that can 1 hit from early to end game maps, sadly she is locked in BE and I'm pretty sure she is locked with Hubert cause you can't even buy their support level in the renown shop in newgame+, I'm playing BL now as my 2nd playthought and I gotta say Sylvain and Felix are way better than Dimitri in melee department, heck Ingrid outshines him in that regards as well

Just FYI, easiest way to do this is to use female byleth and choose golden deer.
Sylvain joins just cuz you chose female byleth and you need no supports or skills or at least extremely low (not 100% sure)
Also golden deer is the only house that doesn't have a character you can't recruit other than claude. Everyone but him can be recruited. There is no retainer. So if you choose female byleth and golden deer you can't recruit edelgard, dimitri, hubert, and dedue. And let's just assume you got sylvain already. That's only 11 students you actually have to try for instead of black Eagles with 12 and blue lions with 13.

Edgellatin XIV what do you mean? Each house has 8 characters. If you pick black eagles you get all 8 of them and Sylvain for free, but you still have to recruit the remaining 5 students in blue lions and 7 students from golden deer.
That's one extra student for you to recruit as opposed to choosing golden deer, getting all 8 students, Sylvain for free, the remaining 5 from blue lions but only 6 from black Eagles.

What is this "having the most characters" complaint. I'm not really getting it. You start out with 8 if you choose blue lions and 9 if you choose the other two due to free sylvain. Am I wrong? It's not like the black Eagles have more total students. Every house has 8.
From there you go and recruit the others. Blue lions you will have the most to make up for with 13. Black Eagles have 12 and golden deer have 11.
Therefore with everything else being equal, the golden deer female byleth route has you needing to do the least work.
Hilda is only available in the Church Black Eagles route from what I've experienced. She never gave the option to give gifts or lost items for me until after the Eagles route split. I really had to grind out supports to get her.

I personally always recruit Bernadetta because A: when you train her right she becomes an absolute beast and B: I love her she is precious
I got Hilda on BL around month 9-10. I got to B rank with her, (A rank timelocked) and asked her to join my team twice. She denied both times, then requested to join randomly during the week. Best unit I have right now, by far. Also had no axe skill, and only increased charm twice.
The only improvement I can make to this useful video is something outside of the game. Make sure you're using "you're" and "your" correctly ;)
Guys, don't bother with the skill requirements. INSTEAD -
1. Look up supports for each of your house members.
2. Have them eat dinner with you and another character from a different house they have supports with.
3. You build support with your house member AND the outsider.
4. Once support reaches B, they will ask to join you regardless of your skill level.
Notes:
1. Your house members might only have supports with 1-3 outside house members, its a good idea to designate a lunch partner that is unique to them that they will always lunch with until your rank is B.
2. Supports between your own house members will be sufficiently built via battle.
3. Invite a member from a different house and assign them as your adjuntant, this will build support between you and this character without sapping experience from the rest of your team.
Or...do both? Idk why you have to discredit everything I say here when I say in the video you realistically want to mix and match both, and even link a video that shows you how to do the other things so I don't have to go over it lmfao.

@@Mephil I would be inclined to agree if exploring the monastery was the entire game. But it's a waste of time to spend drinking tea with someone like Felix if your already in a class that shows profiency in swords. I can see how this could be useful for someone like Ferdinand, Raphael, Ingrid, all profiencies that most people won't likely spec into, but if your already in said class, then why would I waste my time drinking tea with them, and slinging gifts at them. And it's not like I don't mention it, i mention by name someone whose made a video guide on how you can maximize opportunities with other students not in your house in a great way, so I just simply don't go over it. So yes. You do want to do both.
this really helps and is actually a way faster method. i already recruited sylvain, ashe, ferdinand and dorothea using this method (and declined linhard!) and im only a few months in while my boyfriend only managed recruiting sylvain bc he focused on raising his stats for the characters.
just do a B level Support for the character you want to recruit and his or her requirements falls down to Skill D with 10+ to the particular stats, it's easy to farm Skill lvls in normal cause of the free maps but in hard you have to be mindful of how to spend you time in explorations but it's really doable to recruit all recruitable characters before the time skip happens, it's even made more easy in newgame+ as you can buy skill lvls and Support lvls respectively...
I just explore first week of the month and grind out battles for the rest of the month, otherwise you will severely be underleveled for the next battle
@@chaikagaz if you're doing hard then it's understandable BUT not recommended, if you're doing normal then 1 week per month for battles is enough unless you're doing paralogue and quest battles, you're missing out on A LOT if you only do exploration once a month, first off you cannot lvl your professor lvl properly, most of your activities in exploration gives you prof exp, when you do battles you don't get prof exp, the higher the prof lvl the more you can do in this game. next is support lvl and recruitment, you cannot build enough support lvl outside your house so you have less chance to recruit, specially since you have low prof lvl having less activity points, next is dunning, most people don;t know the importance of dinning, it gives you prof exp, it gives you bond and in maxes the motivation of the students, it's import if you want to focus on a student you want on instructing and you can focus on the characters you want to bond with, lastly getting instructions from other prof to lvl skills outside of battles, mount and armor skill in particular cannot be gained in battles if you don't have the proper class for it, to get that class you need to lvl the minimum skill required, not to mention some characters require those said skills to recruit... this game is easy even on hard if you compare it to other FE games if you're having a difficult fight on missions the best thing you need to do is over lvl Byleth he/she will dominate any maps alone unless there is a turn limit

i have just recruited every single black eagle unit on my golden deer playthrough without even trying to do so ... i just recruited the 3 characters that i wanted and it just so happened that i also got the stats needed for the other students

A couple of other considerations:
1.) Leonie is one of the best potential cavaliers in the game as far as I can see. Her growth spread and base stats are great, she has no skill weaknesses, and her personal skill is very good. One of the best potential bow knights if your current roster is lacking in mounted units.
2.) Annette is a highly underrated student because she learns RECOVER (a surprisingly rare white magic) fairly early. If you look at the spell lists for the characters, Annette and Lorenz are the only students that both a) get Recover and b) have a decent Magic base/growth to utilize it fully. (Byleth can learn recover as well). Annette's black and white magic spell lists also contain useful spells like Abraxis (white) and Excalibur (black). Recover is the big one, because late-game characters have large HP pools and enemy attacks start dealing lots of damage. If you think you're going to be short on healing or need more magic nukage, consider recruiting Annette. The only downside is that she doesn't get Physic. (Mercedes seems to be a popular choice because of both Physic and Fortify, but she doesn't get Excalibur or Recover. Getting both of them wouldn't be a bad idea.)
Anyway, that's my two cents.

IMO best to do a "gotta recruit them all" run after you play through all the paths normally. I screwed myself over with one of the paths by doing a recruit them all run.

I’ve been recruiting students by whose prologues come first to give more time to finish them and to not to miss out on prologues that occur pre-timeskip. They also join at the same level as the recommended level for the month’s mission/prologues and it makes it easier so you don’t have to train them up.
* Make sure to at least C support Rhea before the Timeskip to unlock her post-Timeskip prologue. Her B support also has to be unlocked before Chapter 10, S support before Chapter 12 if you want to romance her/ have the conversations.
Also in my GD playthrough, seeing Caspar and Ferdinand’s B supports are locked after the Timeskip. If they are not in your house, B support with D+ required skill level or C support with a lower skill level (not sure if D) were required. I was able to recruit everyone else automatically at B supports with some more gifts (if my required skill was E+ or lower) or automatically/randomly during the calendar progression. I highly recommend recruiting via meals/gifts/chior vs faculty teaching/tea time bc you build prof level faster
I was able to unlock all possible GD prologues and recruit everyone via this method. There are also lots of awesome guides/discussions on Serene’s Forest and Samurai Gamers for more info including tea time answers!

Im not sure if anyone else got this but on Edelgard's path post timeskip I was able to recruit Lysithea during battle where after defeating her it gave me the option of recruiting or killing her

Every house can recruit a student for free post-timeskip after beating them in battle with Byleth. You cannot unlock any supports with Byleth if you do so, however.
The Black Eagles get Lysithea, Blue Lions get Lorenz, and Golden Deer get Ashe.

The easiest way to think about recruitment requirements is by the following (not from how it's described in the video).
ALL students aside from a select few can be recruited using the following method:
B rank support, D rank in the skill they want
The exceptions to this are if the student wants Sword, Brawling, OR Authority. Since Byleth starts with these at a higher level than E, they require higher levels in the skill along with B support for the recruitment.
Sword -> C+ rank
Brawling -> D+ rank
Authority -> C rank
2 students to make note of are Caspar and Ferdinand. Both can't be B supported prior to the timeskip, so they need an additional level in their skill for recruitment.
And that's all there is to it. If you don't want to grind to B rank support, add an additional level to the skill. Ex: D+ instead of D.

the only thing to add is that if you allied with the black eagles there are some unit that just will not join up with you like Hilda and a few member of the church.
5:10 Dude! Bernie, Ferdinand, and Petra are all monsters on the field! Esp. Petra early game and Bernie and Ferdinand late game. Pair them up with Dorothea's Meteor spell and Ingrid's flying skills, and you have the dream team!
It's actually pretty easy to recruit everyone. You can just use all reputation points that you get in the beginning and push all your stats to level B and that's pretty much it.
Not that easy buddy. You need to actually level them up organically to level B first before purchasing levels using renown. It take's multiple playthroughs to get every state to level B organically.

I love classic Shadow Dragon and Sacred Stone, but this one makes me almost cry of joy. Such a great and unsual game, I love social elements, that what makes it second favorite rpg series for me after Persona. But I think it is quite easier than its precedors. Thank you kindly for you guide, although I usually did everything by my own it is nice to understand why Sylvain joined me xD
If you're gonna recruit lysithea, It's a safe bet that you'll want to recruit lorenz too. if only for access to his paralogue chapter which rewards you with thyrsus, an equippable wand that works with the crest of gloucester, and gives lysithea an extra 3 range on attacks, which really helps with her low move and defenses, on top of making her that much more of a threat.
I waited until the final day of school before something happens and recruited everybody except the unrecruitable people of course

I think I had a D in brawling when I recruited Caspar. This and Chaz's videos definitely helped. Next run (going Lions again, fite me) I'm taking Lysethia as well.

hot tip when you want your lysithea to be even stronger think about also recruiting lorenz. It can help you "negate" the problem that lysithea is the glassiest of cannons.
If you are in Edelgard's route heres two tips, don't make flayn your dancer in the dancing event. And the other is lisithea apparently joins you automatically some time later in the story, i didn't have time to recruit her but she joined me herself, no proficiency requirement and my support for her wasn't even C. I heard it was similar for hilda joining you in church and blue lions route.
It's not fair that only ladies get a freebie(Sylvain). It would be cool if Bernadetta was the freebie for the dudes. There are only 2 people that she is comfortable with, Alois and Byleth. It would make sense from a story standpoint if she transferred to Byleth's class to feel safer.
They also get the white and black magic class while guys can get the war master :(

I got Ingrid with D at flying, so she isn't as stingy. Definetly pick her up, considering she's the only character who can fly early on
I mean... Petra, Hilda, and Leonie all make great early fliers too. I'd argue Ingrid plays a bit too strongly into the Pegasus Knight archetype for her own good, since it's very easy for her Str and/or HP and Def to fall behind or not not start growing soon enough to be very viable until you're reaching the Advanced class level range anyway, so the early flight capability ends up a bit wasted.
Actually, on that note, Hilda can quite easily be trained to go straight from Pegasus Knight to Wyvern Rider, and then have her pick of which Master class to go with (or do both if you have the time), if one so desires to heave full time flying unit. Other girls might struggle raising both the Spear and Axe skills needed, but you can probably manage with any other of three as well, Hilda is just the easiest since she has the best weapon strengths and Str to work with early on to make those early levels more productive in battle. I imigine she might be the only viable early game flying unit candidate, if any, once the harder difficulties come out. Although, Petra's or Leonie's personal skills can both come quite in handy for getting kills.
Bottom line, I spent way too long rambling about how hard actually raising/using an early game Pegasus Knight usually is.
Recruit them before the timeskip or they will die by your own hand. Ironic
You can still recurit most of them if you beat them in battle using MC and having a good support. Otherwise sad days
I'm sad because because I didnt know you could talk to them in battle and have them live and join you.... i killed them by using other units to approach and not the professor. I'm starting over now... because I didnt make multiple saves stupidly.

I had Raphael on B, but he wouldn't join my class, since Byleth had E in armour.

Honestly, if you're doing your first playthrough, I recommend that you don't recruit anyone from other houses. It makes the game harder and has more impact post timeskip
On my first play through I manage to recruit ingrid and slyvian
I'm on my second Black Eagles playthrough and I recruited everyone except Annette. Idc if she joins or not. Felix, Bernadetta, Lysithia, Leonie, Sylvain, Petra, Caspar, Catherine and Hilda are heavy hitters. Too op for this game
I’ll only recruit them all so I can protect them. They don’t deserve the fate coming to them
I'm Black Eagle house, and personally I made Ferdinand a Paladin, as if built right he will then have a high movement rate and high evasion. Making him very useful for the front lines.
My strategy is to get who I want first so I can spend my time leveling them up in the way that I want first; after, I wait until the last moment and run around recruiting everyone else. This way, I don't get overwhelmed with prospects and start neglecting the characters I will be using as well as letting The Battle of the Eagle and Lion really hit home.

Blue Lions. That's the route to take if you want everyone. The only people you can't grab are Claude, Edelgard, and Hubert.
Wow, that was very clear, at the moment I was watching the video, I'm only missing 1 student I really want to recruit, I'm having a lot of fun with the monastery and stuff.
if you play on normal you can recruit them all(as in all the recruitables)
First play through I'm in the month 2/22 and got all but 5.(Leonie, Caspar, Ferninand, Raph and Gilbert) mainly because I didn't focus on recruiting, with a more focused run it could be do-able on the normal difficulty when you can use extra battles to boost some stats.
Key is increasing support levels to lower requirements for recruiting.
Honestly I would only recruit Ashe for Locktouch, as he has been useless in my BL playthrough. Ingrid however is a great pickup if you lack mobility, or need a flyer as she is naturally proficient in this area. Same for Bernie, if you need mobility or a bow wielder she makes a perfect Bow Knight.
i recommend recruiting marianne, because she's suicidally depressed and she's the only character in the game that doesn't show up after the timeskip in any of the routes unless you have her in your class
also she heals good i guess

@@tori_amelie4618 considering how starved i was for healers early on in my black eagles playthrough, and the fact that the game steals flayn from you if you side with edelgard, i'd say recruiting a second healer is necessary there unless you wanna power level dorothea's faith
No, no. it's C+ in skills across the board. I tested this with Renown Points. I have a video on my channel where I recruit nearly everyone outside my house. It's C+ in the desired Skill, and C in the Support Level. OR D+ in the Skill with B Support. There is no difference in the students.
I'm doing Golden Deer route and only recruited Felix and Ashe before part 2.

I got Felix to recruitment right after Sylvain joined 🤔 I’d never done any support crap with either of them but my Blythe was almost maxed for sword specs
To add to this for people who have beaten at least one path already
You can play Newgame+ after you beat a path and use leftover renown in the new game to buy support levels. So you can recruit the people you made relationships with from the house of the last playthrough for the new one while focusing on using your time to recruit people from the other house
So if you say played Blue Lion's already and are playing Golden Deer you can for example buy support for say Felix to then recruit him (If you had the person at said support levels from the save you are Game+ing off of)
Same with buying skill points if you so wish to also recruit people, like you can buy the skill stats for characters (Given you had them at said levels from the save you are Game+ing off of)

well buying support lvl is an option but it's something you would not do on an early NG+ cause your renown is only ever enough for your prof lvl, which is more important, you can do support lvl C to B with roughly 6-7 perfect Tea Party which is better than spending 400 renown... the only support lvl worth really spending on is with Hilda for both BE and BL, her support lvl is the most annoying part of this whole game...

While you certainly CAN recruit as many as you want, it may not work in your favor to do so. There are rarely any maps that even allow you to deploy more than 10 characters, and that is even taking Byleth and the house lord into account.
Dorothea was the only student I recruited on my first playthrough (Blue Lions) because I didn't understand how recruiting worked and she was the only one who asked to join my house
