most people going to Miami gp or vegas arent motorsport fans either, I don't think that's the reason why it failed, if you were to hold that same race again, I bet it will be successful. Heck, most new f1 fans are DTS transplants who just show up for an hyped event. It's not about racing. RedBull also hosted their street run with David Coulthard on the streets of mumbai which was a blockbuster. Many and many F1 fans and motorsport fans are showing their interests of being able to host more and more races in India.
Words cannot explain the happiness I felt at this video, I don't understand why F1 doesn't want to give us a 2nd chance but will go for more street circuits while we have a track comparable to Spa
Meh, I wouldn't go as far as it being comparable to Spa, it's more in Bahrain, Barcelona, Red Bull Ring, Imola and COTA category imo. I think main issues are more related to the track management and the politics, rather than F1.
Buddh was the second phase of Tilke tracks, the first in a long time that was properly good. It had the first iteration of what finally became the COTA turn 1, wonderful solution to a common problem that should be standard on about every track..
If they ever return to this circuit Vettel should be called to serve as grand marshal for the first race. "Pass the torch" to the first person other than himself to take the Indian GP.
To me, even if f1 never returns, I'd love india becoming a regular at the moto gp calendar and maybe holding asian le mans or other gt races Motorsport popularity needs to be build from the ground up in this country, and regular events are a must for that
Great video!!! Such events must be promoted rather than seeing them as a cash cow...It would really bring in real time inspiration when local talents get real time exposure of their F1 heroes!! Its a sad thing at the end of the day...But on the brighter side, I think Indian Grand Prix would be back soon..
As an indian I feel as if the FIA is not concerned for tapping into the indian audience because of the economics. Revenue generated from EU/USA or Oil countries will outweigh what ever and Indian grandprix will produce. Plus the tickets are way to expensive for a huge majority of the existing indian fans. Tax exemptions from the govt can help this but that is highly unlikely. Furthermore the european and american diaspora which can actually afford the tickets wont be eager to travel half the world (spending more money and time ) to attend the grand prix. If FIA abandons its money hungry attitude and actually plays the long term game like IT companies did (atleast in India) there is some hope. But in the near future I dont think it will be happening.
It's quite simple really. Cricket has a lot of political and economical advantage (tickets/viewing is cheap/free) over literally every other sport in India. So it's either going to take a change in the political landscape (not happening anytime soon) or some miracle to make F1 possible in India again
Have to say it's good that India decided to focus on real issues and invest in something like a useless racetrack and cars running around in circles (as Seb would put it)
I think there is an amount of corruption involved. I read that the Indian customs were demanding huge amounts for tourists (and I presume press photographers) to bring in photographic and/or video gear.
You got to understand that what’s acceptable in Western countries for years is very new to our shores. You’ve to explain to bureaucrats about the purpose of every single thing as many items have never been seen in India. There are issues which organisers have to sort out behind the scenes before the event goes live, it just wasn’t the right time. The economics argument is the other issue, whether they will have money to run it. Even historic circuits like Nurburgring and Hockenheim are gone, Spa is only renewing for a couple years at a time. The only thing keeping these races alive is the culture, otherwise all make losses.
I'm Just Getting into F1 Since 2024 Japanese GP .. Im shocked to know that India Hosted GP Back In 2011-2013 .. sadly politics runied this But I believe one day F1 Will be back in India😊
Man, one of the Best reasons to play F1 2013 again is this track. I do it 😂 now is hard to find good tracks in every kind of motorsport, i hope MotoGP opens Buddh to everyone.

Politics was the main reason... the track is beautiful and drivers loved it ! although we would love to have F1 back in India , will be extremely difficult with an already packed calendar & other countries especially America wanting more tracks. India definitely missed a golden opportunity, but if government can iron out their internal issues , maybe in another 10 years India can throw in their hat again !
Hi Josh, I am an Indian who was obsessed with Formula 1 from 2008 to 2015 and that coincided with the Indian GP becoming a reality. It was a source of excitement and pride that the country and state I belonged to got to be part of F1 history. Sadly it was ruined by vendetta politics of Akhilesh Yadav and will always hate him and his party for robbing a generation of F1 fans from watching their favorite drivers in front of their eyes. Hopefully the recent MotoGP held in Buddh Internation Circuit is a start of a potential return to F1. As you rightfully mentioned India is the biggest market in the world right now which cannot be ignored. Especially with the recent news that the state government of Gujarat is looking into the feasibility of building a Street Circuit in GIFT City(a special economic zone which lies between Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad). Though they are giving that responsibility to Hermann Tilke again, so hope its not a Tilkedrome as u call it
But which circuits do you drop, to fit it in? The only ones F1 seem to keep on short deals a d talk about dropping, are the classic European tracks - and no! To dropping any of them.
Adding in the issue, every state and central government in India have realised the value of sport and the income it generates for them in longer term so I guess tax problem shouldn't be an issue anymore. Other than that as others have rightly mentioned about visa issue faced by a lot of motogp teams as well, I think there's a simple solution to it that teams should apply for visa jointly by hiring a single agency to take care of clearance, though it might cost them a bit more but atleast they wouldn't be bothered by the hassles they faced previously.
they did exactly that, hence why they faced the issues. As far as I remember, they then directly contacted the government and only then could get visas issued.
The Indian GP circuit was great. Produced a lot of good racing. Very disappointing to lose it. If done right, cities makes billions from having a GP. São Paulo for examples makes huge amounts of money from the annual Interlagos GP.
I love that the Tilkes and his colleges always point out, that the Formula One race track they are designing is "build for speed". No shit? A F1 track that's meant to be driven fast on? Wowsers, whats next? A canal that's built to be floaty? A warehouse designed to store stuff? Blimmen architects.
Being indian its true that the politicians and other people in power will try to ruin any sports if its not cricket. Ever wondered why we struggle so mich in Olympics or intl. competitions of other sports tennis, football etc?
14:01, MotoGP had literallty thje same problem this year, with some of the riders getting a visa literally the day before it all started. Luckily the racing was good though
F1 in india has come a long way since then. There are so much more f1 fans now (Partly thanks to DTS). If they build an F1 track again in india, I think it'll very well welcomed by the fans
I've said for years, this track, like the Istanbul Autodrome, in any other country would be on the calender for decades. But unfortunatly, two brillient tracks are situated in countries that dont care about F1
There are other tracks Id much rather go to / go back to than this one. Nurburgring, Hockenheim, Kylami, etc. But I would take this over a Las Vegas, Jeddah any day of the week! With a few modifications it could be a classic!

@@f1alpacaalso yes
I do agree with the mismanagement, and politics
Every big country should have f1 race
Buddh was the second phase of Tilke tracks, the first in a long time that was properly good. It had the first iteration of what finally became the COTA turn 1, wonderful solution to a common problem that should be standard on about every track..
If they ever return to this circuit Vettel should be called to serve as grand marshal for the first race. "Pass the torch" to the first person other than himself to take the Indian GP.
To me, even if f1 never returns, I'd love india becoming a regular at the moto gp calendar and maybe holding asian le mans or other gt races
Motorsport popularity needs to be build from the ground up in this country, and regular events are a must for that
Great video!!! Such events must be promoted rather than seeing them as a cash cow...It would really bring in real time inspiration when local talents get real time exposure of their F1 heroes!! Its a sad thing at the end of the day...But on the brighter side, I think Indian Grand Prix would be back soon..
what a great research bro
Absolutely brilliant video!
Excellent work as always.
We need a WTF happened to Heikki Kovalainen
For one thing, he went to Japan and competed in SUPER GT until 2021, and now competes part time in the WRC
I am from India I'm sad to see this track gone
Greetings from 🇮🇩 to 🇮🇳
I love Buddh, too. 🙌
It's quite simple really. Cricket has a lot of political and economical advantage (tickets/viewing is cheap/free) over literally every other sport in India. So it's either going to take a change in the political landscape (not happening anytime soon) or some miracle to make F1 possible in India again
Nice video Josh!
Thank u Josh! For making a video about my country.
Finally a video about this beauty of a track. If any track should make a return it's definitely Buddh international circuit
Have to say it's good that India decided to focus on real issues and invest in something like a useless racetrack and cars running around in circles (as Seb would put it)
This layout was fun to play ON the F1 2011-2013 games
I was 5 when I attended this race and I wish I could’ve remembered it better

I'm watching F1 2011 race of Indian GP ... I am watching almost every race since then!
My dad received free passes for the 2011 indian gp and asked me to go with my friends. But I was a fool and wasnt an f1 fan at that time so I didn't use those passes. Ohh my luck. Hoping for an Indian gp return. Please God. Make it happen.
big fan here, keep up the good work mate. peace
Been waiting for this 🥲
Politics was the main reason... the track is beautiful and drivers loved it ! although we would love to have F1 back in India , will be extremely difficult with an already packed calendar & other countries especially America wanting more tracks. India definitely missed a golden opportunity, but if government can iron out their internal issues , maybe in another 10 years India can throw in their hat again !
Hi Josh,
I am an Indian who was obsessed with Formula 1 from 2008 to 2015 and that coincided with the Indian GP becoming a reality.
Though they are giving that responsibility to Hermann Tilke again, so hope its not a Tilkedrome as u call it
14:11 underrated joke right there
4:18 What happened with the editing there, Josh? :D
1:04 - You know what is funny; if you sill own “the dlc” for “f1 2013” you can race “CLASSIC F1 CARS” on this track……
13:36 - I would “NEVER” go to India…. “WAY TO MANY PEOPLE”!!!!!
Interesting how Hyderabad ended up getting their street circuit after all, with Formula E
It would be stupid seeing this never return in F1, when population wise it has so much potential even money-wise
Glad to see the little nod to Mahaveer the Great 😅
SEB's Indian RB bow>>>
The Indian GP circuit was great. Produced a lot of good racing. Very disappointing to lose it. If done right, cities makes billions from having a GP. São Paulo for examples makes huge amounts of money from the annual Interlagos GP.
Indian fans deserve an Indian GP.
Sebastian vettel's Den must be rivived
LOL the DC-10 joke
1:35 And now 10 years later Hyderabad hosts the Hyderabad e-Prix for Formula E
I honestly want to see this circuit host the FIA WEC.
hope you make another video about korean GP
Another difference from 2013 and now is there have been a change of government in both Uttar Pradesh and centre
FIA needs to scrap Miami and Las Vegas for India and South Africa. We need some actually good circuits with many people who are potential clients.
Meanwhile in MotoGP, they had successfully ran an Indian Grand Prix earlier this year in September.
I clearly remember my first f1 race when my dad took me during 2012 season
I really wish F1 would race in India again
I love that the Tilkes and his colleges always point out, that the Formula One race track they are designing is "build for speed". No shit? A F1 track that's meant to be driven fast on? Wowsers, whats next? A canal that's built to be floaty? A warehouse designed to store stuff? Blimmen architects.
Tilke borrowed the design of the circuit from the Kyalami grand prix circuit in South Africa
As a F1 indian fan
I really want a indian gp😢
Being indian its true that the politicians and other people in power will try to ruin any sports if its not cricket. Ever wondered why we struggle so mich in Olympics or intl. competitions of other sports tennis, football etc?
14:01, MotoGP had literallty thje same problem this year, with some of the riders getting a visa literally the day before it all started.
Luckily the racing was good though
F1 in india has come a long way since then. There are so much more f1 fans now (Partly thanks to DTS). If they build an F1 track again in india, I think it'll very well welcomed by the fans
they needed to give hanoi a second chance, so it could prove itself
Also anyone remember when Vietnam had a track for like a couple of months!!
2:43 that is not mumbai, that is gurgaon
I went to the 2011 race from Bangalore. It was a pain to get to and get out
I've said for years, this track, like the Istanbul Autodrome, in any other country would be on the calender for decades. But unfortunatly, two brillient tracks are situated in countries that dont care about F1
NOW.. we’re getting somewhere 😂❤
Love your vids Josh! ^^
Merry xmas bud
It was not the Indian but the State (UP) government which had the tax issues. GOI was pretty much absent from anything to do with F1.
BIC and current F1 cars are a perfect match, it would be an instant classic!
So I went and watched the gp, and it’s got hairpins, fast corners, and it’s really wide. Looks great for racing. Do it
Nonsensical history lesson for 12 minutes and 45 seconds before the narrator decides to address the main question 😂
There are other tracks Id much rather go to / go back to than this one. Nurburgring, Hockenheim, Kylami, etc. But I would take this over a Las Vegas, Jeddah any day of the week!
With a few modifications it could be a classic!
For me, this is the circuit that should be returned first:
1. 🇩🇪 Nürburgring GP-Strecke*
2. 🇩🇪 Hockenheimring*
3. 🇲🇾 Sepang
4. 🇿🇦 Kyalami
5. 🇹🇷 InterCity Istanbul Park
6. 🇵🇹 Portimão/Algarve
7. 🇫🇷 Paul Ricard but with better layout
8. 🇮🇳 Buddh
9. 🇰🇷 Yeongam
* = Held in every two years.
Also chuck Mugello im there and you have 1/2 an F1 calendar filled with beautiful, fast flowing, great racing tracks to give you 1000 times better racing than any city track could imo!
BIC would be an instant classic with these new cars. The track and cars are a perfect match!
14:12 3rd Josh McDonnell Douglas joke
