This so ROCKS!!! I have been dealing with neighbors Xmas lights in the neighborhood with close to a S9 Noise Floor, but after doing this -- I am now like an S-3. Game Changer for sure....for me and my ICOM IC-7300. Thanks for the info MATT :)
Was playing with it last night on 40 and 80 meters. Absolutely AMAZING!!! This is gonna have as big an impact on ham radio as SDR development has. It truly IS a game changer! W5ODP 😃
I JUST finished training the program to listen to just noise for 30 minutes, and I am AMAZING how clear I can hear stations on my IC-705 now! Thank you, Matt!
Love, love, love it so far! Using the default settings and "as is" from the download without doing the 30-minute "RECORDING" and it's great so far. 👍📻⚡Thanks Matt, WA7FLY
I use NVIDIA Broadcast on my GPU to remove noise. It's magic. AMD has one too if you gave a recent AMD computer with an APU or a Radeon card. No internet required. There is an open source version called noise-suppression-for-voice. Not as good, but also offline.
So it can accomplish the same thing only locally? Whenever I think of Broadcast I’m thinking about improving sound for livestreams, etc. But I’m curious on how it compares to the neural network that is trained on RF noise - if it can do noise reduction on audio from the radio locally that is.
@@K0LWC yes its all local. It is a neural net AI as well. It sounds better than RM noise to me as I think it reconstructs part of the voice that may be missing. ModernHam here on RUclips has a video with timestamped demo's of NVIDIA Broadcast and the opensource one I mention in a video titled "Using Noise Suppression AI on Ham Radio to Remove Static"
RM Noise is pointless if it requires an internet connection to operate! Might as well use the internet to perform the original communication. Same goes for FT8 which uses the internet to synchronise the communication. Thank you for mentioning NVIDIA Broadcast and alternatives! If RM Noise was provided as an app, they clearly wouldn't need to pay for servers. RM Noise is clearly a bit of a scam.
Installed, configured, recorded 30min on 20M, and this is indeed groundbreakingly awesome! A true game changing application of AI for Hams. Hopefully there'll be a Mac UI version soon.
Pls don't send in noise recordings if your noise is already blanked out completely with the existing AI filter and filter level set at 100%. 73 de RM Noise Team
I have been playing with RM noise for a while. It is amazing, especially when compared with the latest noise reduction algorithms based in programs like Thetis, and those built into radios like the FTDX line. It's incredible.
It truly is phenomenal. To think it’s still early days from a training aspect!? Can’t wait to see what even a few more months and more users submitting samples brings.
@@K0LWC although maybe not likely, I would love to see the learnt behaviour become available in ICs for use in discrete component radios... Imagine this performance in a little black box....
Good video. It’s reminds me the dsp on somes computers softwares for music recording, also the new President Washington NRC Noise Reduction Circuit is included. Are you tested?
Just ran across this video. 😮 80m is unusable for me with +15 to +20dB over S-9! 😢 Not sure I understand everything but will look into it. 🧐 Thanks & 73… 😊
I remember seeing a video on this about a year ago it seems. Modern Ham posted one iirc. Good to see others are making content on this. I need to look into this more.
The big Revolution in Ham Radio is ( and always was ) a good antenna that will reduce noise from the start , loop antennas as an example. Once this is sorted out, than RM noise software could help.
Now if they just had a network trained on RF noise, or the audio created by RF-specific noise, rather than general-purpose noise reduction. Imagine a network that cares more about lightning strikes and power pole noise and doesn't think that a CW tone is noise...
I heard a guy using an Anan 7000 something with & I think without Thetis. Thetis runs on your pc. I think. But, the second vid I watched he didn't use Thetis. He had Horrible powerline noise. As do I. If I need to, I will buy a new Anon. That's how bad my noise is. His sounded exactly the same, but I don't know if his level of noise was as high as mine is. I worked with PGE last summer and the chaged out at least 3 arrestors that were bad. Unfortunately I have more bad equipment from PGE. It's a very long story. It takes forever to first pinpoint the bad equipment but depending on many factors, getting them to fix it can be tough. If I can I would like to cut the power company out of my noise loop. Now.....for RM noise. Not that I need to of course, but I'm confused as to why I shouldn't include the problem noise in the sample. Don't they need to "hear" the real noise in order to progam the AI properly? I will of course follow the instructions. I just loke to know hiw things work if possible. I am also open to try noise phasing hardware. Unfortunately the highest quality unit I'm finding is the DX Engineering NCC II . There are less expensive units. But the NCC is $950.00. And that doesn't include the high quality plug in modules. I just bought a FTdx101MP about 2 years ago. I LOVE THE RADIO. But I sure like the interface on the Anan better. There only only one for sure outcome though. I ABSOLUTELY MUST ELIMINATE THE POWERLINE NOISE. I had a noise free winter last year. I did my first long path contact & my first Antarctica contact. Not to mention an uptick in just tons of great easier to work DX like Israel & Afghanistan. I hope we can touch bases a bit. I'm very excited about doing SOMETHING to mitigate that horrible poweline noise. Take care, Kirk Paul Kunkel WC6T 73s
Yaesu's NR is pretty darn good - but it's not AI-based. It's some unique engineering where it has a hybrid direct-sampling and analog receiver that really helps it accel above what we have in the Icom 7300.

I see in the app that I can load a prior recording. But can I pass this recording through the filter as well?

Just phenominal! TNX
Does this work with the FT-991A?
Yes. Any radio that can send audio to a PC will work just fine.

GOOD INFORMATION 👏👏👍
The link is in the video description.
Yep, in the description. Thanks, Eric.
LOL you played Joe Italiano AC1DD.
Joe is a frequent player on 7200 and 3860; needs lots of noise reduction...

As long as you're getting it right from the source it's likely just a false alarm. It's a new app and you would need to approve it to run.

I've been using Thetis for over a year, and RM noise for a similar time. RM Noise blows NR2 away.... It's on a totally different level.
