Season 1 is probably the best season of the show overall in terms of consistency and character development. But I prefer Season 2, just because I think the highs are higher with some outrageously funny episodes that make Season 1 look a bit tame in comparison. But still this was a perfect start for a legendary cartoon.
I love this season overall, the animation is really great in Big House Blues but then it kinda gets stiff with Stimpy's Big Day/The Big Shot but it gets better later on. The plots are fun and ridiculous and the episodes where Ren and Stimpy need food are my favorite. And I agree with you, Ren has to be my favorite. Yes, Stimpy is nice and stupid in an adorable way, but I think we all know Ren is relatable to most us lol. Not saying Stimpy is a bad character or anything, no, he's a great character with funny lines and Ren is the same. Fun fact: When episodes would take to long to deliver, either the previous episode would play again the next night or there would be an alternate pairing of the last episode and another previous episode, for example, say Stimpy's Invention didn't air yet like it was supposed to, so Black Hole had to be paired with The Littlest Giant. (Just an example, not the actual pairing before Stimpy's Invention was complete lol)
That makes a lot of sense with the alternate pairings. Like you mentioned with Stimpy’s Invention since it took so long to air it would be even worse if the sister episode that was already finished couldn’t air because of it. I wonder which new pairings were created and if we ever saw something like a Space Madness/Black Hole pairing back to back.
The ink-and-paint and camera operation after animation was done in Fil-Cartoons in Manilla in the Philippines. Bob Jaques, the co-founder of Carbunkle Cartoons, called it a cheap sh*thole studio that had no respect for the work given to them. Of course, when you're paid so little you can't afford rent and they don't stock the bathrooms with toilet paper to prevent theft, I don't blame them for their indifference. After seeing how Fil-Cartoons ruined Carbunkle's animation in Fire Dogs, Jaques decided to go to the studio in the Philippines himself in order to save Stimpy's Invention.
1:11-1:26 The Almost Complete Series DVD has the same discs as the separate season box sets, meaning you could have the whole series with less space to fill on your shelf. However, the Almost Complete Series DVD (at least with my copy) have mislabeled the discs for Season 1 & 2's disc 2 and 3 and Season 5 and Some More of 4's disc 2 and 3. The Collector's Edition has the whole show in two DVD volumes, with volume 2 including the Adult Party Cartoon episodes from The Lost Episodes DVD. I hear that the German DVD has the entire series uncut, but the restored scenes are in German.
@@renandstimpyrecap Now that I have the collector’s edition DVD set in my possession, I can confirm that it’s a region 0 set, which means it’s discs can play on any video-playing device anywhere. The only region 2 DVD set I could find so far is the 25th anniversary DVD, which only has season 1 up to half of season 3. Your best bet for having the series of DVD in Europe is the Collector’s Edition DVD set.
In my opinion, season 1 is the best season of Ren and Stimpy
It's definitely the most consistent season when it comes to quality.

My favourite episode of season, 1 used to be Stimpy‘s invention, but looking back at it, I have to pick untamed world
Both are great episodes

This is very interesting; does that account for the somewhat dark look of much of the first season?

Do you know if there is any other difference between regions? I’m in Europe so if I get a region 1 dvd I can’t play it on anything here
