    In this video I show the steps and procedures necessary to replace the fan clutch on a Nissan titan. This procedure is the same for a Nissan Armada as well. In this particular instance the vehicle experience in overheating condition at idle. Also the AC would blow warm during extended idle periods. The procedure is relatively straightforward and does not require special tools to replace it. I hope this videos help you out if it has please like and subscribe. If you have any questions feel free to leave something in the comment section. Thank you for watching

    Great video, thank you. The information regarding the fan clutch is spot on. Mine is being changed today. FYI, my air conditioning temperature gets warmer sitting at idle. Makes sense if it's not working. Thank you!

    Aaron your awesome! When I installed my CSF radiator 4 months ago 3 of the 4 fan nuts were only hand loosened. I could turn them by hand, scary huh! So I used some LTite and reinstalled the fan but I never considered the clutch! My AC i is great while moving , at idle it warms up so guess I need to replace it because it does move freely which I thought was a good thing! It’s 10 years old from Florida so its best by now! OEM clutch ok, appreciate your great work!

    Thanks for the instructions. I just finished replacing the fan clutch in my 2014 Titan. I ended up stripping the heads on a couple of the nuts. Ended having to use locking vice grips to get the rounded heads off. After that, however, taking off the old fan clutch and putting on the new one was fairly easy. I used blue thread lock to make sure the nuts won't come loose to easily.

    I am curious, it appears the fan is pitched to blow away from the engine. Is that correct? And if so can you explain why it would try to blow air out when the airflow blows inward when in motion. The only thing I can assume is that the clutch free wheels when the vehicle is in motion and only drives air when the vehicle in running while stopped.

    My fan clutch is stuck always on. 9000 miles on a Titan XD 5.6v8. Someone on a forum mentioned something about a sensor that can activate the clutch went out on theirs twice...is this not just a mechanical clutch? I wonder because when I would shut off the AC it seemed to allow the clutch to disengage after a few seconds...never heard of a semi-mechanical fan clutch before or was this just coincidence?

      It’s a 2 row. CSF is the brand and it’s been on for about 2 years now. Clearance is a little tight, specially with the air aid cold air intake. But it fits. Fan shroud was a little tough to get on but no major issues. Temp never gets above 200 and that’s with the stock thermostat and in the Arizona heat.

    So my AC on my Titan only gets cold when driving at higher speeds. Think my condenser fan is dead. Should it run when my engine is on? Or only when driving?

    • @AaronHinesAuto
      @AaronHinesAuto  6 лет назад +3

      The condenser fan is activated when pressures in the high side of the AC system had reached a certain pressure. This sensor is located in front of the condenser next to the fan itself. Anytime the AC is on in the system has a full charge of Freon the fan normally should be operating. There is also a separate 40 amp fuse for the condenser fan in the engine compartment fuse box. It’s labeled radiator fan, and it’s a part of three fuses that are one unit. The color of the fuse is Green. Also check that. am making a video this weekend How to diagnose a bad condenser fan. I’ll send you the link when I upload it.

    Hello good video I have a 2004 Nissan Titan that overheats when it tow no check engine light what I did notice is at idle my temp is around 195 to 200 even when driveing stays similar I noticed when engine gets to 180 degrees I can here the clutch fan engaging and moving air but intermittently when I go above 3k rpm sounds like the clutch gets quiet not moveing enough air then I hear it and temp drops fast have you seen them fail like that or is that a sign it's going out I ran it under hot water and turn it and the resistance doesn't change and seems slight play when hot

    • @AaronHinesAuto
      @AaronHinesAuto  5 лет назад

      the job of the fan clutch is to move are through the radiator at idle and low speeds when the truck is up to temp. sounds like its doing just that. 195-200 at idle is normal and good. how hot is the coolant getting? your electric condensor fan should be on when the coolant is above 212 degrees. does it turn on? check out this video i made for testing the condernsor/radiator fan.

      @@AaronHinesAuto Yes AC fan turns on got out when truck was running hot to verify. My truck never overheats , except when going up steep grades or when towing up grades. Coolant temps get up to 230 degrees no engine codes or lights on already drained flushed and burped radiator. I did notice that when going up the grades when towing in 3 Rd or 4th gear at around 3 to 3500 rpm my clutch fan is no longer audible and my temps start to rise intermittently I'll hear the clutch fan engage at times and temp will drop . Took it to 3 different shops and they say cooling system checks fine I almost thinking of takeing to the dealer but afraid they will say the same thing only occurs when going up grades while towing. Any thoughts

    • @AaronHinesAuto
      @AaronHinesAuto  5 лет назад

      could be the clutch is not able to pull and stay engaged after 3k. however i have seen aftermarket thermostats not fully open and end up restricting water full. so at idle its fine but when your engine is putting off alot of heat, the cooling system cant keep up, sounds like the issue your having. i would also do these tests do rule out a clogged radiator.
      1. Feel the upper and lower radiator hoses when the engine is overheating. If the lower radiator hose is hot when the engine is overheating, you know the thermostat is open.
      2. Make sure the radiator and the condenser are clean and the foam seals are in place so the air flow is directed across the radiator.
      3. Take the upper and lower radiator hoses off and put a 5 gallon bucket below the lower radiator outlet. Put a garden hose in the top of the radiator and see how much water will flow through the radiator in 1 minute. A good radiator should be able to flow about 5 gallons of water through it in one minute.
      4. If the lower radiator hose is cold when the problem occurs, then the thermostat is not open - whether the new thermostat is defective or there is an air pocket getting behind the thermostat.
      hope that helps

    • @Zeppelinlv2007
      @Zeppelinlv2007 4 года назад

      Check your AC condenser fan. Its main job is to cool the AC condenser. However, if it's bad, it won't bring in enough airflow to cool your condenser and your main engine radiator (the ac condenser is in front of the engine radiator). Therefore, the main clutch fan is working double duty by cooling two hot radiators, which is not designed to handle that.

    • @johnsmith-bz7mk
      @johnsmith-bz7mk 4 года назад

      Zepper2019 the condenser fan does turn. I’m thinking it’s bad. Now if I sit still too long I can tell when it’s about to overheat because it starts to make a vibrating noise.

    • @Zeppelinlv2007
      @Zeppelinlv2007 4 года назад +1

      @@johnsmith-bz7mk the original ac condenser fans had a high rate of failure. These fans are undersized for the job, so they need to be at Tip-Top shape. It has to spin like it's sucking your face in. If it doesn't feel that powerful, the AC condenser fan may already be failing.
      It could also be your main clutch fan. Though it wouldn't explain why your radiator is overheating when your AC is on. Or, perhaps they're both failing at the same time and with the stress of the AC condenser heat your main clutch fan isn't removing heat fast enough. Essentially it could be pulling double-duty and if it's the original it's old and can't do the job anymore.
