  • Here's Siskel and Ebert's hilarious take on the awful 1986 movie King Kong Lives. Actually this segment appeared on their show for the worst movies of 1986. There are no scenes from the movie in their bashing of the film and Siskel explains why.

This is nuts! Why isn’t this a more famous Siskel and Ebert review?

Even Dino de Laurentiis said that making King Kong Lives was a "mistake."

I saw King Kong '76 when it first came out, I was 7 years old, and I loved it. My dad must have taken me to see it, ten more times during the next year. I remember imagining a "part 2," and would have loved KKL too I am sure. The next few years were all about catching, the original '33 version, son of Kong, and Mighty Joe Young on the tube during the Thanksgiving season. Oh the memories. I wonder if we all remember how different things were.

@David Topchiev / Yes, I agree that the '76 version is much better than the latest one, with all the CGI. And I will go out on a limb and say the '76 version is the best.

@@GenoCuddy He reviewed many bad movies; Jack and Jill, Freddy Got Fingered, and Movie 43. Possibly he'll say some things he likes and things he hates. I bet he'll give John Astin credit for being the best part of the movie.

If you've ever seen "The Big Hit" with Mark Wahlberg, then you know about the subplot involving his character who kept forgetting to return his rental of "King Kong Lives" to the local video store and he get's constantly harassed by one of the dorky clerks from the store. I endured a similar situation during the Summer of 87 when I too kept forgetting to return my copy. It didn't end up in a fight to the death and the video store exploding but it came close. They still never got their movie back because I'd taken it to a neighbor's apartment during a party and forgotten who'd gotten their hands on it. Fucked up my credit for a couple years cause that's when a new VHS or lost rental copy of same would run at least $75.00 and I was only 22 years old and couldnt have given less of a fuck. It's still a decent Kong movie if just for the better FX and pure "WTF"-value of the story.

@@travismcdonald6576 It was uncommon to withhold clips from a film in 1986, but unfortunately its too common now for film studios to shut them out completely rather than brave bad critical reviews.

Now look Director John Guillermin should sold his movie script to the Japanese movie studio like Toho Movie Studio where they can add King Kong in the Godzilla Movie called Godzilla Vs Spacegodzilla (1994) so that way the Japanese Filmmakers Will hired Peter Elliott as Kong the eight wonder of the world in the Heisei Godzilla Movie Series In Godzilla Vs Spacegodzilla (1994 Movie) so that way they can save the King Kong Lives movie script for there Future Japanese Films like A Heisei Godzilla Movie Series!
