    I had idle surging before on my HR until I installed a ground kit.

    I made a grounding kit myself for my G35X. I did my differently, some ppl go overkill with their and ad way too many grounds. I did the big 3 where you add a hot wire in my case a 4 guage wire from positive terminal of battery to the positive terminal to the alternator. Added a ground from the chassis to engine block(in my case to the plenum.
    I then got a 4 point distribution block on ebay. Where I have a 4guage wire going from negative battery terminal to the distribution block. It's made out of solid copper and comes with a case. I added four 6 guage ground going from this block. I have one going to the block at the same point you used that goes to the timing chain cover where other grounds are already located. Have another ground going to the throttle body, then one going back to the body where I have the previous ground I installed going from the same point back to the engine(well plenum). Then my last ground I added I have snaking down to my transmission. This one was a bit trickier. I may go back later and add two more ground. One going from transmission to engine block. Then from the chassis to the engine block but find a good spot somewhere near the starter or somewhere down there. I've already noticed better throttle response, lights are brighter and my system hits harder. It pretty much eliminated the need of using a capacitor for my system. The lights don't dim at all whenever the system bumps.
    It's really hard to say how much of an overall improvement all of my mods did. Because as soon as I got my car, I did everything all at once. It felt fast and drove fine when I got it. It was pretty much stock, but had a short ram K&N. That filter was beyond death. Never seen anything like it, nearly 80% of the cotton material was gone! It was basically just the screen and tons of packed dirt. This worried me a lot, but I got such a great deal I took the risk. Glad that I did, because now this car is alive! It's night and day difference in how these mods awoke this engine! The grounding kit was just a preference Ive done this with every car I've owned. Because I know there actually work.
    What really helped a lot was adding a 5/16th Blox Plenum spacer. While I had everything apart I cleaned the hell out of the inside of the plenum as well as the upper and lower intake manifolds! I've seen videos where there's pools of oil inside the plenum. I figured mine hasn't been apart in yrs. So not bad, especially considering the high mileage. I was able to glance down the manifold and take a look at the intake valves and they were clean as well.
    I went ahead and ordered a new set of valve covers that came with gaskets and hardware. That way I could paint the covers. While I had the valve covers off, again I was surprised in how clean everything was. Got a set of platinum spark plugs for $24 on ebay, they normally go for $6-$8 a pop. A set of 6 coil packs $45, ebay is your friend. People knock on ebay but if you know what your doing its a bargain. Painted the plenum as well. Then I made a Cold Air Intake just used one of those Spectre filters. Now my filter is located in the driver side wheel well. It's set up so the air is forced into it from the slot of the bumper. In the G35x they have different bumpers to also keep things cooler for the radiator. I charged all fluids atf, transfer case, front & rear diff. Added an inline filter on the atf fluid line that's going into the radiator. Just another line of protection to keep the tranny clean. Last but not least I installed an oil catch can. It does it's job too. My oil consumption went down by alot. Before id have to put in a qt per every 1k. Now I top off maybe ¼ qt per every 1k! I'll empty it once a month and only an oz or so of crap comes out. It's a baffled system, that way I can run a closed system that still completes the vehicles pcv valve system.
    Now my car is awake, it's like a whole different car! Im highly impressed actually. I've always loved Nissan's and been biased to them. This just help assert this love. For a 16yr old car that has 209k miles it drives way better than cars half's it's age, with half the miles. Im a true believer in maintaining vehicle maintenance. These cars are built to last. I just need a good 2 more yrs out of this car. By then I should have plenty saved to get an Infiniti M56S. Yes, I ranted but I can't help it. I just love these damn cars. Best bang for your buck.

    I had no idea grounding was so important and necessary for vehicles... My G37 coupe started doing funky things every time I’d hit a bumpy area, those things include rough idle, display screen would go haywire, gauge area would glitch and I would park it right when it happened. After parking the car I would turn on but super rough , it would then not allow me to put the car in drive... the shifter literally was locked. I then only could think to do one thing and I disconnected the batter and let it reset, that only would put a bandaid on the problem. After paying 300 dollars to get a my electrical system checked..... it ended up being a ground wire that was loose near the battery ...... that fixed everything.

      Yep. I had the issues with the sun roof leaking onto the ECU just after I bought it. Everything went nuts. Still really love these G's though.

      @@mostumpy Bro, it's because the " Sunroof Drain Plug/Grommet "
      clogs because of their horrible design.. look them up seriously. I recently replaced mine and hope it hasn't caused permanent issues with my ECU.. but i did get a code p1000 :( hasn't come back yet tho.. This is such a common occurance with g's and infiniti ignores it. Sadly we all learn about this when the issues start to come up.

      @@johnboy7261 👍 mine was leaking found out after the first rain when I bought it. Trunk kept popping open then no start later. I fixed it quite a while before I did the ground update. It did fix a number of things though.

    Translab shift kit, it changed the game for me. Increases line pressure and upgrades a few components on the valve body.

    Hey man, I have a 08 g37s coupe, silly question, but when you take the negative off the battery, is there a radio code you have to re enter afterwards?

      Also, I don’t know if you’ve had any experience with it but recently while driving down the highway a few different times, my car basically shut off and the abs, vsa, slip and parking brake light all lit up while the car was off, 2 seconds later it cut back on once my car dropped down to around 60-65 mph and my car didn’t know what gear to be in so it was going crazy. It happened around 6 times on 3 different highway trips in the past 3 days.. I have no clue as to what is going on. I got an abs code of C1109 saying abnormal voltage on my reader. Is there a ground wire connecting with the abs module? Thank you

    • @mostumpy
      @mostumpy  2 года назад

      Not aware of radio code I did not need one but it was a 2012. If there is it should be on a card in the owners manual (based on my Acura). As for the stalling if you have not made any alterations yet have the battery and alt tested and make sure it cables are clean and tight. Only issue I ever had somewhat similar was from the leaking sun roof getting the pcm wet. Had it been raining recently?

    • @samuelaiken2570
      @samuelaiken2570 2 года назад

      @@mostumpy thanks man, reason I ask is because there’s no radio card or anything like I had in my Acura. I just recently purchased the G so wanted to make sure before I go checking everything. Got the battery, alt, and started tested and they all came back good. So I have no clue what else to check besides all my grounds but the code is related to the abs module and I can’t find much online about it.

      @@samuelaiken2570 i don’t know if I would trust any codes if your having electrical issues they are probably symptomatic. And an abs fault would not stall your car. Keep digging check relays even look for rodent chew. Electronic issues are the worst to trouble shoot. Good luck

    • @mostumpy
      @mostumpy  2 года назад

      It’s easy and does no harm (if correctly installed). The only other specific issues I’ve heard that it addresses besides trans lag in an AT is audio quality though. If your going to upgrade any electronics I would if not I’d probably pass on it.

      If your positive it’s not there on a 2013 I’d just find a chassis bolt near scrape the paint and put it there then seal it. Put dielectric grease under and over. Or combine it with another. Will still be an extra ground.

    • @mostumpy

      I don't believe the G was E85 ready at least before 2014. Did you get a conversion kit to let the ECM know the methanol content and adjust the AF ratio and timing? Without it would throw a code.

    Ya grounding gremlins are the worst, even my manual trans are effected by it. Adding grounds from engine/trans to frame is always good

  • @obtrunco
    @obtrunco 2 года назад

    The issue I've watched videos regarding this is to see if it works. But you did not show any before / after so your opinion is not very helpful. My G37 already shifts quick in auto mode because of the ECU tune but the main issue is the manual upshifting delay. This is the reason for looking into this grounding hypothesis.
