American Gods is a text book example of a series that demanded to be cancelled. A half of the book mostly became season one and then they strung out, delayed, prevaricated, dithered and went off on tangents for 3 more seasons. And the audience left, the actors cycled out and it got cancelled. An ignominious end to a series so far up its own backside it couldn't just tell the story it existed to tell.
