I liked the plot and movie. Was it historically accurate(as in, did they LOOK Egyptian?)? No. Was it mythologically accurate? No. But the movie was entertaining and that’s what it was aiming for. It wasn’t aiming to be a retelling of mythology, it was just trying to be entertaining. I was entertained. Movie is a solid 6.5/10 for me.

Great movie. The people going "BOO HOO This isn't how Egyption mythology was!" are the same people complaining that 300 isn't historically accurate. It's a popcorn and Coke movie, and it excels doing that. It's just a great fun and enjoyable movie and doesn't try to be anything else.
It's lazy writing and poor acting, and given a pass by the audience because they approve of white washing but throw a fit when a single character anywhere else is made a PoC.

However, Apophis reassembles himself at dawn, and the chase begins again. I think there is a version where Apophis is permanently killed, but the only god who is able to do so is Ra's daughter, Bastet.

Everyone. Egypt was a Mediterranean kingdom, and almost everyone was 'fair skinned'. Their population was significantly greek, etc. Not sub-saharan/arabian

Saw adds for this movie and got interested… for a second… then I saw all those white actors playing the main roles… A Scandinavian playing a brown Gods. I decided then and there (just like the last Moises) that I would watch this after it was free. What slap in the face of any one who hey knows even a little bit of history.. forget all brown people in the world! They knew what they where doing and they did it anyway.
This film, like Green Lantern, got an unfair bad rap. It's actually a very cool movie. The problem is, if you don't find Egyptian or mythology interesting at all you wont like it, because you won't understand it. NOT because it's a bad film.

I don't get why people complained about the casting choices, ancient Egyptians were not black, and were not semitic, they were in fact closer to modern europeans, mummies are blond ffs, makes sense their gods and blond and blue eyed.

In mythology, set was the one who helped repel the serpent of chaos, so I didn't like the fact that he was actively helping it in the movie.
