  • I've worked a lot on making this particular video. I'm not a native speaker so i apologize for any kind of lingual mistakes. I was inspired by Maryah Watkins Productions's vocal analysis of Mariah Carey. I don't really consider Burlesque a real era since she promoted it even less than Bionic and i quess her voice was simply getting worse. I hope you'll enjoy it!

      Hogdion Hanna the sad thing is her voice is only damaged because of the bad technique she's uses she doesn't sing with her natural voice and growls too much and shouts and screams notes because of pulling her larynx so high up when hitting high notes causing so much tension! This is an easy way to damage your vocal cords. If she wanted too she could learn how to sing properly again When she sang "well never have to go back again" she actually was using good technique she should sing like that all the time

      +CY T I can't find any examples in this video, but it's when she does her "m"s. It's this metallic, slightly nasal quality I can't describe. If you've ever heard "Infatuation", listen to when she sings "I never will let a MAN control MY EMOtions".

  • @simplymj7614

    She's naturally a Soprano, but years of pushing on her larynx to sound more dramatic & soulful. Ended up making her turn into a Mezzo as she aged. Judging by the dark tone and huskyness in her 5th octave belts. She matured into a Dramatic Mezzo..... She went from being a Lyric Soprano with an extensive head register. To a Dramatic Mezzo who has difficulty belting above F5 these days with sounding harsh or strained

    • @cyt6658
      @cyt6658 8 лет назад +30

      STOP with the dramatic mezzo analysis!!! She is NOT, nor has she ever been or ever will be a dramatic mezzo. Do you even know what qualities a dramatic mezzo possesses or sounds like? If she was a dramatic mezzo, she wouldn't, as you admit yourself, have difficulty belting above F5. She is a lyric mezzo with a naturally brighter timbre than the average mezzo, that's all.

      Christina hasn’t belted above F5 since she was in the studio recording the one F#5 in Your Body.
      Ever since then, she has only hit F5 in the studio, unless it was a crack and it “peaked” at F5
      The highest she typically goes is Eb5, and her Eb5’s will either come out clear, or they will be insanely raspy
      I haven’t heard a quality E5 in years either

    I don't get how people DO NOT understand if you sing basically your whole life and aging, eventually your vocals are going to change.

    • @instasingingvids3529
      @instasingingvids3529 7 лет назад +34

      labellav1103 true but you need to be using good technique of course your voice will change over the years but it change quickly and get damaged if you use Christina's horrible technique where she strains on notes and growls and raises her larynx so high her throat must bleed from all the tension! If she wanted too she could eliminate the tension and possibly save what voice she has left but she will probably keep on using her bad technique until the day her voice quits

    • @labellav1103
      @labellav1103 6 лет назад +2

      Then what happened to Mariah?....She didn't sing like Xtina and she doesn't sound ANYTHING like 1990 henny and she lip syncs...I know im late lol But yea!

    • @pb2560
      @pb2560 6 лет назад +7

      labellav1103 There are other factors that come into what happened there, it wasn't only her vocals. But overall the 30y/o+ singers who have a good technique still mostly maintain the quality of their voices (Beyonce, David Phelps, Natalie Weiss)

    • @jakeyjakes_
      @jakeyjakes_ 6 лет назад +4

      labellav1103 she has nodules and drinks too much.

    • @Solo-vh9fm
      @Solo-vh9fm 6 лет назад +12

      1. Mariah had nodules.
      2. She didn't actually start losing her voice until 2005 (35), all that happened was her tessitura lowered. Compared Daydream era (B2-G5-Eb7) to Charmbracelet era (G#2-F#5-C#7), so yeah she wasn't as fluid but she was able to support lower than she could in 1996.
      3. On a technical point, Mariah now is still better than Christina. She can still support up to Eb5 mostly and she still hits the occasional F5 and F#5.

    For someone with horrible technique she's done a good job at preserving most of her voice. And the fact she can go up to a C#7 with her head voice is insane. And she has one of the most beautiful and fluid tones. I wish she had serious vocal coaching, she could have been unstoppable for a very long time (maybe even better than Whitney, Mariah or Beyonce) and maybe she would have developed an actual whistle register to make the higher notes more consistent and less forced.

I really hope she knows what to do with her voice and style for the next album, I guess it's a good sign she is taking her time (and working with Linda Perry, very exciting) She needs to trust her voice and just sing good songs without feeling the need to show her range at the end of every sentence, everyone knows she can sing by now.

      Size is not the issue, that's ridiculous - overall fitness could be. Look at Aretha (her recent performances show great improvement) and Patti (not that slim either) and Kelly Clarkson now that she's put on weight - they still sing very well. Also, Jennifer Hudson was a monster of a singer when she was a lot bigger. I mean, she doesn't even do much dancing at all nowadays so it's not like she's running up and down the stage doing hard choreography to hinder her breath support.

    Xtina's my fave... but she's so annoying ! Nobody wants you to keep all of your weight past Eb5. Nobody absolutely wants you to go through the entireity of a song in your fake "big voice". Fighters love your voice as it is and would really like you to keep it healthy so we can enjoy your music and you can have fun singing for some more time.
    Girl knows full well about good technique, is somewhat capable of applying it yet never does so when it matters most D:
    I want me some well executed upper belts ! Her liked her tone so much in the E5 - G5 region the very few times she allowed herself to mix :C
    Yet at the same time I feel so dumb saying this while I enjoy myself her raspy af Lady Marmalade vocals x). But really, I dunno why, but I'm in love with her F#5 "Hey" in that song.

    But what I gotta say - though stellar performances in 2015/16 - that the Mawazine Festival was a mess at times :/

    I like her darker timbre much much better anyway. Being a good singer is not (only) about using the widest range and the fastest runs, but best singers are serving the purpose of the song. Shrieking out the highest notes is something people don't really fancy in Europe, seems it more a US thing. I don't like it, either, and I think it hurts the voice on the long run.

    Wow I loved this video. I'm not a singer and I don't know anything about it, but watching this videos makes me know a bit more about the science of singing, definitely something that needs a huge training in technique. If u don't have this structure u can seriously damage ur voice.

    Yeah, her voice was starting to darken after her Debut era. She had a really light voice back then, and she still kind of does when she isn't faking that tone.

    First of all I want to say that I'm not a Christina hater, I was actually singing You Lost Me last night. But while I do agree with many things posted here, I think you missed an important thing here: support with the diaphragm, I mean how Christina supports her belts especially and her lower range, since it's different to sing with ease but yell than to actually support. Her support has narrowed horribly and she yells everything above A4 unfortunately, when back in the B2B era she could support some B4s and C5s when mixing; her mix is inconsistent as well, she tends to push a lot of chest into it which has caused a vocal decline in her belting range; and her lower notes have lost tone and support through the years to the point that she can't support G3s anymore, which as a mezzo should do with ease. Also, you didn't mention she doesn't have a head voice and that most of her upper register is reached with a shrill and tense falsetto, even though she doesn't (or didn't) have pitch issue

    • @lxhizy
      @lxhizy 8 лет назад

      Issues* but yeah that's all. You're right about the way she belted and how B2B was her best era in terms of mixing, although it had a lot of misses in agility and stuff her voice truly shined in that album lol anywaya keep the good job.

      Thanks for your comment, i did not want my video to be too long. There were many other aspects of her singing throughout eras but if i mentioned all of them, this video would last about half an hour. And i don't agree with everything you said about her support range. In B2B she HAS supported her belt up to E5 (listen to 7:20). That Nasty Naughty Boy Eb5 was definitely supported. The thing is that her support was inconsistent but still she was able to support her belts above B4 or C5, not just once or twice. Her lows nowadays are great, she easily sang a fully supported E3 with mezzo ease (12:19). She also showed an ability to support below Eb3, just watch my video about her low register. Also, nowadays she doesn't always ''yell'' her belts.(sure, she's not consistent but it doesn't change the fact she has sung that Stone Cold Eb5 with a decent support) Have you watched the ending of this video? Oh, and she has a head voice, listen to a G5 she did in her Jimmy Kimmel performance of Change.

  • @NawiTheCore

    Her biggest problem nowadays is that she's extremely inconsistent. You'd listen to her performance of I Have Nothing and think she's improving and then she gives terrible vocal performances in Mawazine and Georgia, in which she could barely belt without sounding on the verge of cracking. I also HATE the fact that she doesn't sing the songs and just talks her way through the verses, and ad-libs the shit out of everything else (just watch Fighter in Georgia). One thing is to dodge high notes, which she's done since ever, and a whole different thing is to not even sing your own song and rely so heavely on your backing vocalists.
    Seriously girl, get your act together. Her new era is going to be as messy as Bionic and Lotus if she doesn't get her act together. She needs to chill and start mixing a little, as well as actually sing the songs. She also could improve her image if she wants to cater to younger, shallower generations. Promotion is going to be a must for this era if she wants to sell at all and I don't think her voice, or anything for that matter, is up for the task. I want her to succeed so bad but she doesn't seem to care at all and it really makes me mad because I love her.

      Yes! I've been saying that for a long time and always get smashed by her fans. She got paid a LOT of money for those two concerts and she executed SO poorly. Without back up singers you would barely recognize which song she was singing. Doubt she lacks the stamina for a proper 1-hour performace, even though there is a trend that she performs way better when she is skinnier.

    • @Shinydiscoboi
      @Shinydiscoboi 7 лет назад +10

      i agree with you.i feel like she's too lazy to even promote her last 2 albums.as shallow and mean as this may sound,but i feel like she should get slimmer (not saying she looks bad thicker) and really work on her looks also.She's got so much potential,such a huge talent and i feel like she's kinda wasting it.The older she gets,the harder it's gonna be.If you look at people like Beyonce,she's also very talented but she seems to work really hard and is consistent.
      i'm also saying all these cos i love Christina alot and i want her to be bigger and more relevant than most of the artists today.

    I feel like 2013, she stopped fully singing her songs. The bionic era literally had so many great performances, yet the album flopped because of it getting leaked before its initial release. Everyone has that album because it was illegally downloaded by millions of people. Well at least the album has sold 1 million copies now.
