To anyone following this guide who's struggling with fishing in the first few days (especially Day 2 when you're making your first catches): You might find it worthwhile to spend 25G on the Training Rod from the Fish Shop right after the cutscene with Willy. It effectively sets your green bar in the fishing minigame the size it would be if you were already at Level 5, and since it doesn't impose an XP or quality penalty, it makes reaching Level 3 by the end of Day 2 much easier. But keep in mind you can't catch less common fish with the training rod, so you might want to switch to the Bamboo Pole on (rainy) Day 3 so you can catch Catfish-a fish you can only catch in the rain that awards more XP and sells for more gold than any other fish you can catch in spring. And if you managed to reach Level 3 with the Training Rod by the end of Day 2, there wouldn't be a huge difficulty difference between the Training Rod and the Bamboo Pole anyways. P.S. This is a really great min/max guide, huge thanks for this, High Jedi!
To build on this in case anyone else is still following these guide (i still find them very helpful) I used the training rod/bamboo pole at the sea till I had enough $ and level to upgrade to the Fiberglass Rod. I don't use any of my starting $ so I can get this on day 2. This rod and bait make it possible to hit level 5 fishing on day 3 with some luck. You'll pull in enough fish to pay for the rod and get a jump on your potatoes.
A big tip for serious min/maxers is to check for foragables as soon as you wake up, make a mental note where they are and restart the day. You can save a good amount of time but not having to sweep the lower part of the cindersnap
@@ilikesubmarines9639 Joycon drift? I had that too. Have to buy new joysticks for it and replace whichever one is drifting. You can buy the stick and a switch tool set for not too much money. It's a tedious process, but only takes about 20 minutes and you'll save a lot of money.

Noooo save the grass fiber, befriend Caroline to 2 hearts really easily, make tea saplings and, rather than plant them, sell them. Those sell for $500 a pop, and only cost 5 fiber, 5 wood, and 2 wild seeds (forgeable combining and a gift from the community center). You can get an infinite amount of all of these supplies.
High Jedi update: i played through the whole spring guide last night and made a much better profit than i did when i tried playing blind. the grind felt fun to me as well, i’m starting to love this game
Damn, I thought my setup was optimized, had a google sheet and everything for options based on day (luck fish, unluck forage, rain mines), yet I didn’t know about the no energy rebuff for fainting day 2 and some other things that are even more optimized. Personally I buy all parsnips day 1 and all potato’s after parsnip which grow in time for the spring fair, once bought 150+ potato’s which I foraged every day to have enough energy to water!
Don't think the no energy penalty is day 2 specific, you simply don't get one whenever you go to bed and leveled up a skill so you can abuse this a lot in early game when you level things up almost daily.
I know it's been a while and updates might've been the cause but you cant sell on the same night you achieve lvl 5 (on console). But you can follow this guide still by reaching lvl 5 by day three's end. And if you're lucky you can catch Neptunes Glaive as well which will propel you even further on day 5. :3
I have been practicing speed running this game and I’m good now, but I remember the first time I achieved level 5 on day 4 I accidentally clicked the crab pot
So I noticed thet when you sell the fish at the same night when you get the 25% gold increase...it does not work and the fish sells at regular price...

Sky overall, yes! I use that spot below Leah’s and Marnies for time reasons. I seem to get quite a few chests there as well! Sturgeon and Largemouth bass are great for profit, but you do catch quite a bit of carp as well.

Profits also in Summer plant lots of corn and what's required for community center. Corn is 2 seasons need only plant once. By winter of year 1 every tool already iron and could be gold if i sold that golden pumpkin
My day 1-5 min/max is different, I'm interested to know if you've tried it this way. There are 4 main differences. 1) I only plant 13 parsnips + 2 mixed seeds (I'll do 13 parsnip + 1 green bean/cauli/potato if I'm willing to reset from a crow eating one of them) 2) I sell my fish before level 5 fishing 3) I buy training rod to always get perfect catches day 2. Trash the bamboo rod. 4). Day 3 gets funky, it depends how much gold I have. If I can't afford rod upgrade, I start out at the river with training rod until I can. Then I go straight to the beach and fish there until I can afford a couple trout soup and have level 4 fishing, then I move to the river again for the rest of the day and aim for catfish. This strat is 2-fold, day 1 changes are to have extra pocket change, day 2 changes accelerate fishing level at the cost of a bit of gold, and day 3 is the payoff where you can go for catfish with effectively lvl5 fishing from the soup and bait for faster catch rate. Beach fishing with fiberglass rod instead of training rod is because you can't catch halibut and flounder with the training rod and you should be really close to level 4 already anyway, so getting the gold from increased quality fish and the harder catches is worth.
Timothy Pearson definitely excellent strats! The reason your cash flow is low early is because you don’t wait for level 5 fishing! The 25% increase in profit is HUGE. I also use the bamboo pole because of 1.4 update to fishing. You can catch almost ALL iridium quality fish by day 3. Also, the more plants you plant, the better. Since we aren’t focused on the community center bundle, I don’t go for cauliflower or any other type other than potatoes and parsnips. Each vegetable only grants 8exp per pick for Farming (no matter the quality or value. Potatoes have increased chance for multiple per pick.
@@HighJedi Yes it's important to define the scope of the strategy, planting the cauli/bean/potato is for CC route, the 13 parsnips + 2 mixed seeds is for no CC because it doesn't trigger crows. The idea behind the CC route is going for speed gro on strawberries to get 3 harvests instead of 2. So you get 20 from the bundle completion, and you craft as much speed gro as you can. Day 5 I trigger CC quest start, buy backpack, and mine. Day 6 of my strat is visiting wizard, chopping tree crowns for tappers and bridge repair and level 3 foraging. I go for 4 tappers by day 8, that's 8 copper bars and you need 4 clams, makes 20 speed gro, 40 strawberries, don't lose any of them with a single scarecrow, triple harvest, early start to tapping for kegs, and no energy debt from watering so I can focus on the mines or fishing if it's raining catfish. Can also buy extra strawberries without speedgro, the amount depends on RNG. I don't know how many strawberries I could get, honestly, I was more balanced approach while doing this run. Honestly, you could do this single bundle for CC for 20 speed gro on your strawberries and then go JoJa anyway, if you think about it that's 20 more strawberries yielded for just planting a cauli and gb day 1, potato you've got covered anyway. The thing about my fishing is that with training rod you're only sacrificing the quality of fish on day 2 (which is basic to start with, some silver/gold as you reach level 3) in exchange for much quicker leveling, day 3 you have the fiberglass rod so you're catching iridium quality weak fish AND you have faster bite rate with bait, plus you're catching catfish. You are right that I lose 25% profit on everything I catch day 2, and anything I have to sell to Willy day 3 to buy the rod/bait/soup, but after that I can save and sell day 4 (because you hit level 5 fishing day 3 while doing catfish) so it's sacrificing a token amount to reap the catfish. It depends on RNG obviously but the goal is to move to the river by 2pm, fishing til 2am passout. Surely you recognize this profit is bigger than 25% increased profit on day 2 / early day 3 fish, because that's all you have to give up. It's not really compatible with what you're doing though, since you sacrifice all your starting gold on seeds. Unless you get blessed by RNG, I guess. You should still go for training rod day 2 imo, and keep the bamboo in inventory. You can toss the training rod once you're up to level 3, you really aren't getting higher quality fish until then and it's only 25g for 100% perfect casts. Just finding a foragable on the beach would pay for it.
Why 13 parsnips and not the 15 you start with? I also sell fish in order to get the better rod on day 3. While it's true you lose 25% of the value of the day-2 fish, fishing with bait gives you about 2x as many catches on day 3.
@@Oxxyjoe Only need 13 to reach level 2 and it's extra money from selling the seeds. It's also a choice to plant 2 mixed seeds and keep yourself from being affected by crows (no crows until 16+ plants in the ground) which is absolutely debatable... You could just plant everything and you'll make more money despite the crows, but it's also an energy tax to water them all and I like the consistent start from dodging crows.
Being able to have 2x more bites and less trash due to bait seems to more than offset the 25% gain from the fish you would sell to purchase the rod and bait on day 3.
Idk if this has just changed in 1.4, but I did exactly what you said and by night of day 4 had achieved lv5 fishing and got the profession, but the fish sold for the same value it was before :( still got some good money (5k), but it wasn't boosted

Rare Ravens Hay can absolutely be kept and distributed to your animals WITHOUT a silo. Slicing grass down sends it to the silo, not purchasing it from Marnie. The hay you purchase from Marnie must be placed in the silo OR a chest. Hay is also a requirement for the Community Center, so yes, you can have hay without a silo
I got super close to getting level 5 fishing by day 4 so I decided to go to sleep then fish the next morning and mine later in the day. I got level 5 fishing and managed to get to level 10 of the mines. I left the mines at around 12:50 am. I got back to my farm safely, but then I realized that I forgot to sell my fish and water my crops, so I watered most of my crops with my remaining energy and sold my fish. What I didn't realize until I went to look in my chest the next day, was that in my panic of trying to get back to my farm, water my crops, sell my fish and sleep before 2 am, is that I accidentally sold all of my chubs. :(
Tom z as many plants as you can plant! Level 6 farming requires 200 potatoes 🥔 plant them before day 6 though! You’ll need a lot of money for strawberries on day 13! Thanks for watching ✨
Well the first five days you have no access to the mine, little funds for crops, and no way to produce any animal products so unfortunately fishing is the only way to go for days 1-5 What would prevent you from fishing?
Howhow TV contrary to what people believe, it’s not worth it. Spending your time fishing and mining is far better than the second section of beach It’s also very far out of the normal foraging path and wastes time
Playing on the switch after 1.4 update. I cant seem to place items in my greenhouse, or plant and kind of trees anywhere in my game. Is anyone else struggling?
@@HighJedi I've tried doing fruit trees in my greenhouse as well as sprinklers. I've only tried pine, maple and oak outside the greenhouse but still no luck. I also tried searching to see if anyone else had issues and I couldn't find much :/
Lauren Jones Oh yeah the new update nerfed the ability to grow saplings in the greenhouse (unfortunately) Not sure about your pine trees and such! Possibly try Reddit or the Stardew forums. Wish I could be of more help 😭

richard mitchell for maximum profit purposes, this guide requires little to no wood and most of your time focusing on day to day profit before the 13th when strawberry’s become available. The rest of the time is for ores (gold, iron, and quartz) for sprinklers. As many as possible! 200,000g+ is easily achievable the first month with this method! Thanks again for watching!
I think day 1 you should focus on 1. Get chest while avoiding oak trees 2. Get forgeables, artifacts and spring onions 3. Use spring onions to mine rocks until you're level 1 mining 4. Cut grass for the rest of the day when you're out of energy You should reset if you don't find an artifact day 1, or if you don't reach at least 700 gold at minimum for the bin, for a total of 1200 gold start on day 2. The reason for this is that you want to be able to buy fiberglass rod and bait for day 2, which is super OP in any farm start, because fishing is broken for day 3, and fishing in general is something you can keep doing all day before the mine opens, which basically nothing else with little downtime does. If you want the most efficiency, the goal should be copper pickaxe turn in by 4pm on day 3, but this requires a ton of luck to accomplish, as you need like 7000 gold by the end of the day. Easier if you skip the fiberglass rod, but this in turn gives you less fishing exp, which means harder to catch catfish on day 3. The reason I don't plant seeds early, is that it's much more efficient to plant stuff once you have sprinklers, and you basically need to go to the mines to get that. You can go so many ways from this day 1-3 start, from mushroom farming, to skull caverns, to buying strawberries at the festival.
selling fish the day before you get the fisher trait does not give you the 25% sale price increase. check price of regular shad: 60g without angler (on v. 1.4.5) =(
Isn't it more profitable to fish at the mountain lake, at least on sunny days? Also why not maximize your strawberry harvest by planting at least one of each of the spring crops on day one? That way you can get the 20 speed-gro reward on egg festival day and get one additional harvest for 20 of your strawberry plants. I would also place a chest next to the elevator at the mine entrance.
Mowana123 I have 200+ strawberry plants at any given time. 20 speed grow doesn’t do much there 😅. Also, my materials needed are limited. Coal, Ores, and Valuables. Nothing more. So a chest at the elevator is personal preference at that point. Also, I don’t go to the egg festival. I buy my strawberries and leave immediately. Thanks for watching! ✨
High Jedi All personal preference as you said. Just to be complete for the 1.4 update: speaking to people at the festival gives you friendship points now. Since the clock is stopped it makes sense to go around and speak to everyone.
I have to disagree with a lot of things done in this guide. That's comparing this statagy to foxyferm's (I think that is her name) min max guide. Not that this is not helpful it's just not as good as it could be.
This is a terrible strategy, you have to be good at fishing for it to work at all. I missed out on like 20 really hard catches on day 5 and woke up only at level 3 on day 4.

You can change professions later on! I don’t want to spoil how but if you are interested do search it online, it’s rather easy :)
Your save file is a Note Pad document so like . . . You can always just fix that.

Been trying this and it relies so heavily on getting perfect catches to get the fishing levels up in time. Im okay at it but not that good :(

My day 1-5 min/max is different, I'm interested to know if you've tried it this way. There are 4 main differences.
1) I only plant 13 parsnips + 2 mixed seeds (I'll do 13 parsnip + 1 green bean/cauli/potato if I'm willing to reset from a crow eating one of them)
2) I sell my fish before level 5 fishing
3) I buy training rod to always get perfect catches day 2. Trash the bamboo rod.
4). Day 3 gets funky, it depends how much gold I have. If I can't afford rod upgrade, I start out at the river with training rod until I can. Then I go straight to the beach and fish there until I can afford a couple trout soup and have level 4 fishing, then I move to the river again for the rest of the day and aim for catfish.
This strat is 2-fold, day 1 changes are to have extra pocket change, day 2 changes accelerate fishing level at the cost of a bit of gold, and day 3 is the payoff where you can go for catfish with effectively lvl5 fishing from the soup and bait for faster catch rate. Beach fishing with fiberglass rod instead of training rod is because you can't catch halibut and flounder with the training rod and you should be really close to level 4 already anyway, so getting the gold from increased quality fish and the harder catches is worth.
Timothy Pearson definitely excellent strats! The reason your cash flow is low early is because you don’t wait for level 5 fishing! The 25% increase in profit is HUGE. I also use the bamboo pole because of 1.4 update to fishing. You can catch almost ALL iridium quality fish by day 3. Also, the more plants you plant, the better. Since we aren’t focused on the community center bundle, I don’t go for cauliflower or any other type other than potatoes and parsnips. Each vegetable only grants 8exp per pick for Farming (no matter the quality or value. Potatoes have increased chance for multiple per pick.
@@HighJedi Yes it's important to define the scope of the strategy, planting the cauli/bean/potato is for CC route, the 13 parsnips + 2 mixed seeds is for no CC because it doesn't trigger crows. The idea behind the CC route is going for speed gro on strawberries to get 3 harvests instead of 2. So you get 20 from the bundle completion, and you craft as much speed gro as you can. Day 5 I trigger CC quest start, buy backpack, and mine. Day 6 of my strat is visiting wizard, chopping tree crowns for tappers and bridge repair and level 3 foraging. I go for 4 tappers by day 8, that's 8 copper bars and you need 4 clams, makes 20 speed gro, 40 strawberries, don't lose any of them with a single scarecrow, triple harvest, early start to tapping for kegs, and no energy debt from watering so I can focus on the mines or fishing if it's raining catfish. Can also buy extra strawberries without speedgro, the amount depends on RNG. I don't know how many strawberries I could get, honestly, I was more balanced approach while doing this run.
Honestly, you could do this single bundle for CC for 20 speed gro on your strawberries and then go JoJa anyway, if you think about it that's 20 more strawberries yielded for just planting a cauli and gb day 1, potato you've got covered anyway.
The thing about my fishing is that with training rod you're only sacrificing the quality of fish on day 2 (which is basic to start with, some silver/gold as you reach level 3) in exchange for much quicker leveling, day 3 you have the fiberglass rod so you're catching iridium quality weak fish AND you have faster bite rate with bait, plus you're catching catfish. You are right that I lose 25% profit on everything I catch day 2, and anything I have to sell to Willy day 3 to buy the rod/bait/soup, but after that I can save and sell day 4 (because you hit level 5 fishing day 3 while doing catfish) so it's sacrificing a token amount to reap the catfish. It depends on RNG obviously but the goal is to move to the river by 2pm, fishing til 2am passout. Surely you recognize this profit is bigger than 25% increased profit on day 2 / early day 3 fish, because that's all you have to give up. It's not really compatible with what you're doing though, since you sacrifice all your starting gold on seeds. Unless you get blessed by RNG, I guess. You should still go for training rod day 2 imo, and keep the bamboo in inventory. You can toss the training rod once you're up to level 3, you really aren't getting higher quality fish until then and it's only 25g for 100% perfect casts. Just finding a foragable on the beach would pay for it.
Why 13 parsnips and not the 15 you start with?
I also sell fish in order to get the better rod on day 3. While it's true you lose 25% of the value of the day-2 fish, fishing with bait gives you about 2x as many catches on day 3.
@@Oxxyjoe Only need 13 to reach level 2 and it's extra money from selling the seeds. It's also a choice to plant 2 mixed seeds and keep yourself from being affected by crows (no crows until 16+ plants in the ground) which is absolutely debatable... You could just plant everything and you'll make more money despite the crows, but it's also an energy tax to water them all and I like the consistent start from dodging crows.
Being able to have 2x more bites and less trash due to bait seems to more than offset the 25% gain from the fish you would sell to purchase the rod and bait on day 3.
Idk if this has just changed in 1.4, but I did exactly what you said and by night of day 4 had achieved lv5 fishing and got the profession, but the fish sold for the same value it was before :( still got some good money (5k), but it wasn't boosted

Used this guide and managed to purchase 400 strawberries seeds but now it takes till 4pm to water them all and another of energy. What is the maximum you want to purchase? Didn't manage to get to farming lv6 but got to fishing lv10.

Rare Ravens Hay can absolutely be kept and distributed to your animals WITHOUT a silo. Slicing grass down sends it to the silo, not purchasing it from Marnie. The hay you purchase from Marnie must be placed in the silo OR a chest. Hay is also a requirement for the Community Center, so yes, you can have hay without a silo

I got super close to getting level 5 fishing by day 4 so I decided to go to sleep then fish the next morning and mine later in the day. I got level 5 fishing and managed to get to level 10 of the mines. I left the mines at around 12:50 am. I got back to my farm safely, but then I realized that I forgot to sell my fish and water my crops, so I watered most of my crops with my remaining energy and sold my fish. What I didn't realize until I went to look in my chest the next day, was that in my panic of trying to get back to my farm, water my crops, sell my fish and sleep before 2 am, is that I accidentally sold all of my chubs. :(

Well the first five days you have no access to the mine, little funds for crops, and no way to produce any animal products so unfortunately fishing is the only way to go for days 1-5

pretty sure its more efficient to straight up go sell the seeds you are given at the start, and buy potatos with that cash
1st farm not profitable what's profitable early is forest and mountain farms. It more profitable finishing quests, community center and get farming to lvl 4 and start crafting 3 - 6 pcs preserves jar cauliflower in spring is expensive by itself but ridiculously expensive when preserved 400g per pc. Profits also in Summer plant lots of corn and what's required for community center. Corn is 2 seasons need only plant once. By winter of year 1 every tool already iron and could be gold if i sold that golden pumpkin

richard mitchell for maximum profit purposes, this guide requires little to no wood and most of your time focusing on day to day profit before the 13th when strawberry’s become available. The rest of the time is for ores (gold, iron, and quartz) for sprinklers. As many as possible! 200,000g+ is easily achievable the first month with this method!

I think day 1 you should focus on
1. Get chest while avoiding oak trees
2. Get forgeables, artifacts and spring onions
3. Use spring onions to mine rocks until you're level 1 mining
4. Cut grass for the rest of the day when you're out of energy
You should reset if you don't find an artifact day 1, or if you don't reach at least 700 gold at minimum for the bin, for a total of 1200 gold start on day 2. The reason for this is that you want to be able to buy fiberglass rod and bait for day 2, which is super OP in any farm start, because fishing is broken for day 3, and fishing in general is something you can keep doing all day before the mine opens, which basically nothing else with little downtime does.
If you want the most efficiency, the goal should be copper pickaxe turn in by 4pm on day 3, but this requires a ton of luck to accomplish, as you need like 7000 gold by the end of the day. Easier if you skip the fiberglass rod, but this in turn gives you less fishing exp, which means harder to catch catfish on day 3.
The reason I don't plant seeds early, is that it's much more efficient to plant stuff once you have sprinklers, and you basically need to go to the mines to get that.
You can go so many ways from this day 1-3 start, from mushroom farming, to skull caverns, to buying strawberries at the festival.
selling fish the day before you get the fisher trait does not give you the 25% sale price increase. check price of regular shad: 60g without angler (on v. 1.4.5) =(

Isn't it more profitable to fish at the mountain lake, at least on sunny days? Also why not maximize your strawberry harvest by planting at least one of each of the spring crops on day one? That way you can get the 20 speed-gro reward on egg festival day and get one additional harvest for 20 of your strawberry plants. I would also place a chest next to the elevator at the mine entrance.
Mowana123 I have 200+ strawberry plants at any given time. 20 speed grow doesn’t do much there 😅. Also, my materials needed are limited. Coal, Ores, and Valuables. Nothing more. So a chest at the elevator is personal preference at that point. Also, I don’t go to the egg festival. I buy my strawberries and leave immediately. Thanks for watching! ✨
High Jedi All personal preference as you said. Just to be complete for the 1.4 update: speaking to people at the festival gives you friendship points now. Since the clock is stopped it makes sense to go around and speak to everyone.

This is a terrible strategy, you have to be good at fishing for it to work at all. I missed out on like 20 really hard catches on day 5 and woke up only at level 3 on day 4.
