I love, love, love this song. I am particularly missing my mom today, the first Thanksgiving without her. I used to sing with her. Maybe I can hear her song in the wind.

My wife and I were in the front row of the mezzanine for this show, and I gotta tell you, it was a totally different experience live than watching this video. The camera 'sees' the drum kit on the stage behind everyone. But in the theater the stage lighting drowned out the drums - you *couldn't* see them at all.
They started the show with a few acoustic numbers and my wife (who wasn't really a Kansas fan until seeing them that night) was starting to get a little antsy right up to the point Phil came in. She was completely blown away - she did *not* see it coming!
I, of course, air-drummed with Phil.
It was an awesome show, and I feel privileged to have been there for it!

I get it. I've seen Kansas 100 times since 1976. They haven't played this one in a while. Took my Kansas fan 16 year old daughter to see them in Albany. When Phil came in with the drums, it punched me in the face with the 40+ years of joy they've brought me. I just started crying (in front of my kid... damn you PHIL!!! ). It's even hard for me to watch this now. Just overwhelmingly magical.

@@jeremyhelm2833 I saw Kansas last night (8th time) September 17, 2022 and I had tears streaming when Phil came in and the last verse.....and throughout the next song "The Wall". My wife was like "are you crying????" Simply magnificent.

I saw these guys many times, nothing was like Steve Walsh Carrie livegren and Phil,
Phil, is the one Christian in the band, and livegren, came second,
They got me through my hard times in high school,
      I've got all their records,
I remember when Steve left the band, because he didn't want to sing the Christian music, and he came back,
I could keep going on and on but.
I've got the rolling Stone magazine,
And it says coming soon Kansas the group,
Although my spelling is bad, My memory is good.
These guys will always have a place on my best American group

Saw them last night (9/17/22) and couldn't agree more. Tom was amazing, was mesmerized watching him play. Throw in the other "new guy" Ronnie hitting all the high notes and this band is just killing it!

Glad they're keeping the band going. They already know this but Steve Walsh pre 80s is impossible to replicate. In my opinion one of the best vocals ever. Well done for what it is now.

This will be one of my celebration of life songs one day. I agree, I miss Steve and his range and overall awesomeness. I understand moving forward, of course. Kansas will always be a favorite band, always, but I think my days of seeing them live (many times) are over and I am just fine with that. Carry on, wayward sons. Love to all of you!

Not to be persnickity... but K/K was produced by Wally Gold... AND the f***ing Record Plant kept/erased over/re-used the original 2" 24 track master tapes (to save all of $200???).
I think JG assisted on SFA. He didn't really get his paws on the board until Masque in the mosquito infested backwaters of Louisiana.

Great writing. Awesome original singer. This is a bunch of great great musicians...but also a slap in Steve's face.

    • @bryanirvine6169
      @bryanirvine6169 4 года назад +3

I don't think it's a slap in Steve's face. They stopped doing a lot of songs that have now been brought out of retirement because Steve didn't have the vocal range to do them anymore. Ronnie does, and this song is included in that. They are also recording again as a group and they didn't do that with Steve because Walsh wasn't interested in recording anymore...only to release his own album after retirement. If anything, he slapped the BAND in the face when he did that.

  • @chuckfriebe843

Ronny can hit the notes, but there are a lot of little nuances that most good singers add to a song like this to make it more emotional. There are some parts of this song that require some breathiness and Ronny just doesn't have those nuances in his voice. Also, he cuts off the notes too soon. There is a technique that is called "kissing" the note at the end of a phrase. Ronny just abruptly ends the note. Again, he can hit the high notes, but it's those little things that bring the song to life.

i was one of the biggest kansas fans. saw them over 30 times. but when steve walsh left so did i. saw them once after that and i just couldn't get past the face that all they are is a cover band now. love phil though. other than him the least talented one in the band is the only one left. don't forget hope was the original bass player. so none of these guys wrote or sang any of the classic songs they play so i call them a cover band now. sorry

knechvatal , you’re entitled to your opinion, and I respect that. I love their music so much that I love the efforts to keep it going. I would say that as much as this was a great effort, it doesn’t match up to the live “Two for the Show” version. Still, the current lineup is doing a great job at keeping Kansas alive.

It’s all about the music - not the band members. Be thankful they are keeping the memories and going forward with new songs.

Well, if they are a cover band then they're the best damn cover band I've ever heard or seen! Seriously dude, your loss not mine.

    • @bryanirvine6169

So when Elefante came in, were they a "cover band" with only five of the six left? What about when Kerry/Dave left, and Steve came back, with Greer? Were they a "cover band" then? When violin duties changed, did they then become a cover band?
Band personnel change. It's constant and ongoing. It does not make them any less of a band. It is just how bands work and cycle. Deal with it. They are Kansas, not a cover band. Hell, Greer has been there almost as long as the Phil/Rich at this point.

Richard is doing an awesome job too. Billy has been with the band longer than Dave Hope. I will forever love the original line up but I respect these guys for doing a fantastic job carrying on.
