I am so excited for more Pentatonix reactions and there is nothing like seeing them live. It’s absolutely surreal!
This is "mature" Pentatonix. Their voices just keep getting better and better! As others have said, that's an electric cello that Kevin is playing. If you look carefully, he has a pedal there that he can do looping with, and can also change the tone of the cello, to get more of the "electric guitar" voice for it. As others have said, there really is no "lead singer", they all are fantastic at doing lead and background, and seamlessly switching from part to part in a given arrangement. That said, Scott in some ways is the "heart and soul" of PTX. It was his idea to call his childhood friends Mitch and Kirstie to join him in auditioning for the Sing Off back in 2011, and then when they needed to add the bass and beat box, he was the one who contacted Kevin after seeing a viral video of him on RUclips. He is the most extroverted of all of them, although Matt is a close second. All of them are natural performers. Scott is endlessly creative, and always has his hand in lots of side projects. He started writing a musical titled "The Life of Death" (about the Grim Reaper and his daughter) with a couple friends over the pandemic, has had several readings of it, and is slowly working to get it produced. He has also put out a bunch of solo music over the past 2 years (worth listening to!). Kirstie had a solo album released in 2017. Mitch has solo music under the moniker "Messer". And Kevin has some amazing solo projects (KOvers) on his channel. Start with Down, Stay With Me, or Renegade. Matt doesn't have much solo stuff out so far, but he's the youngest (and "newest") member, although he has been part of the group now for 7 years.
You should watch their cover of "Gold" ; or their "evolution of Rhianna" - you get to see them sitting still - it's easier to see who's contributing what
'Gold' would be the ticket!!

When I heard the Seal version back in the day, I thought the lyric was "rose on the GRAVE", but it's not. It's "rose on the GREY", a vision of grey color being brightened by a touch of pink.
Really? I still thought it was grave until I read this😅

They don't technically have a lead, but the one you mentioned, Scott, probably does a bit more lead singing than the others (I haven't done the math, lol, but I'd say that's accurate). He also does about 25-30% of the talking in concert, so a little more than a fifth, though they all talk and interact really well with the audience. Scott's just an endlessly energetic extrovert who is pretty much always everywhere doing everything, lol. Matt is a joyful extrovert, too. Kirstin and Mitch are slightly more introverted, and Kevin is somewhere in the middle. The whole group is famously cooperative and not competitive with one another. Scott, Mitch and Kirstin have been friends since childhood, which boggles the mind. Can you imagine three close friends in the same school with that much talent between them? That's some type of cosmic intervention if you ask me. When those three were 19 in 2011, Kevin and Avi joined them to form Pentatonix in order to compete on "The Sing Off," which they won, and the band has been going strong ever since. Avi left (for life balance reasons) in 2017, and was replaced by Matt. Avi has a solo career now. Kevin is playing an electric cello, and beatboxing at the same time, you'll notice, lol, because he is a glorious beast of a talent. They all are. Loved your reaction! This is one of my favorite songs of all time.

A high school is lucky to have one or two world class athletes or performers in it's history, how did they get three? at the same freaking time!?!?!?!
We have a better chance of winning the lottery, and getting struck by lightning in one lifetime.

It's PTX all grown up! And Mitch just "slapped" you again!!
Kevin is playing an electric cello which can be distorted to sound like a guitar. He does sing but he is so needed for beat boxing ( by the way he "cello-boxes" at the same time). He plays the cello, saxophone , piano . He graduated pre-med from Yale University which meant he was accepted into their medical program after graduation but he was asked to join Pentatonic & has never gone back. He is fluent in several languages including Mandarin ( Chinese). Check out his You Tube channel where he performs amazingly. Kevin Olusola ( KO). No end to his talents.
Mitch is a counter tenor, not his falsetto. His head voice, the falsetto is REALLY high. They are so great. Kirsty- rhymes with thirsty- and Mitch's voice sometimes are indistinguishable. We Pentaholics love reactions. Scott is the blond guy.
Since they won the sing of 2011 ONLY ONE member left amicably. He was replaced by Matt Sallee.
Kevin is doing cello boxing. That is a electric cello. He is also a tenor.
During December you can indulge us with PTX Xmas music. You may pick a favorite.
I recommend come along and blinding lights and their own song "love again". Sooo great.

If someone suggests a Pentatonix song and you don't want to watch the official video, look for a live performance. The fan-recorded concert videos vary a lot in quality but there are live versions of many of their hits from their 2022 Hollywood Bowl performance that was recorded professionally -- "90's Dance Medley", "Sound of Silence", "Sing", "Daft Punk", "My Heart With You".

And just to add a side story to that- Kirstie was in Kinky Boots , Sam. Their cover of ‘Shallow’ is fabulous and Kevin brings along Beyonce (one of his cellos.. he names them, cuz why not? He brings them to life, right?) Love me some KO🎶

Kevin the beatboxer is the smartest n most talented PTX member. He was doing pre med in Yale when he got the call from Scott to form Pentatonix . He passed his exams but left it all to be a beat boxer.
He is a world class cellphone player and has performed in Carnegie Hall twice as a teenager, once for the cello and the other for the saxophone. He is also adept at the piano. He invented cello boxing and speaks 5 languages including Mandarin fluently. He did not sing much u til he joined PTX and now has a beautiful tenor voice.

This is you mom and dad....ok got nothing....😃Great reaction. My favorite changes ALL the time. This is live, crazy. The 3 main singers, Kirstie, Mitch, And Scott formed while they were in high school together, but the group formed with the Beatboxer Kevin to do the show the SING OFF. The original bass Avi Kaplan left in 2017 and Matt came in. Cello. Kevin is truly a wonderful freak of nature, the list of things he can do is ridiculous. He created the form of music called Cello Boxing.

Keep on doing this. I love your delight. Scott Hoying (the tall ginger), Mitch Grassi and Kirstie Maldanado were “choir kids” in high school and became “The Trio” there. I’d imagine Scott was the instigator. TL;DR They’re in their 30s and still the core of Pentatonix.

Kevin has two cellos (that I know of). He named his acoustic cello Beyoncé, but this is his electric cello. Kevin had planned to call it "Jay-Z," but his mom likes "Mr. Carter" better. Meet Mr. Carter.

LOLZ...Your quite the card! I'm happy that you realized that Kevin was beatboxing while playing...and that he's your fave this time. Re the volume levels on the mics, no...they will lower their own vocal volume while singing backing vocals. That's all part of being in a vocal only group or a choral group. You don't out-sing the person with the lead.

My pet peeve is pauses without rewinds. You paused as Scott came in and thus it lowered the impact of his amazing entrance, since you didn't rewind a few seconds. I'm a reaction addict, so I know I get a little picky. I doubt that I've ever complained about one of your reactions. If so, I've forgotten. And I'll probably forget this complaint. But I hope YOU remember it, and consider rewinding at least 5 seconds, after a pause. (This is NOT a pause "whine". I like pauses) This was NOT a favorite reaction. Sorry, bud. I love your channel though. But I clicked off after the 4 minute point.

BUT, as a reaction fan, I like to see the reactions to the parts that I find most special. Because of the pause, without a short rewind, you didn't notice it as you could have. As I said, I'm a reaction addict, so I get picky. I didn't get to see you get blown away by that part. (And most reactors do. And I have no doubt that you would have too) I really only meant it as "constructive criticism". I watch so many reactors, so I forget details of individual ones. But I assume you probably do often rewind after pauses, otherwise I probably wouldn't have subscribed to you, nor would I consider you a favorite channel.
