For people who might be a bit skeptic about the issue of safety on this, the bridge is completely safe. It is steel reinforced built by a professional company. They added that wood on top for effect. Also the top structure that hammond knocked over is actually jusy for show, it is not reinforcing the bridge's strength in anyway. Civil engineers cleared it for even tanks or buldozers to go over it. I had the chance of meeting James May when I was in London last year. He was stuck in traffic in front of big ben and I was sight seeing on foot. An amazing man, really. He rolled down his window, talked to me for a few minutes and told me this first hand, that I shouldn't have worried although the whole point was to make us worried and entertain us lol
You are a lucky man!
very Lucky man
shan_rocks I met Richard Hammond at the NEC in Birmingham and got a photo and an autograph and I must say he's one arrogant prick. Sorry to disappoint all but he's not what he appears to be. I've always thought James May would be the nicest out of the 3
stevegcampbell I always figured May was the nicest out of the 3. Jeremy has an attitude everywhere I've seen him. Hammond's goofy but I am not surprised about being arrogant. May just always is chill.
+stevegcampbell maybe he was just having a bad day. he is human after all

This is why top gear UK will always be better than the U.S. version
right
+Ula G (YLA Gaming) Derp...everybody knows that. Everybody in the U.S only watches the U.K version...is there some idiotic fight going on between the two shows? Because i've never heard anybody in the U.S acknowledge top gear U.S as a show.
+Ula G (YLA Gaming) Why do you want to make a US version if the Original UK version is the best you can get.Americans can't top Britisch HUMOR. And now for something completely different; the Larch.

Jeremy’s triumphant cheer at 5:40 is just so utterly perfect.
Is it just me or did they remove the slope joke.
They did
Yea :(
Censorship, what's the point in living in 'the free world' if people aren't free enough to make a joke.

Really do not know. I'm still watching the video :P
0:35 they skipped the 20sec interval between that and the ribbon-cutting. Shame on you, BBC.
Patagonia special:
Clarkson - "Is this bridge straight?"
Hammond - "Yes!"
Slight reference to the slope incident....
I always thought it was more of a "Shut up and stop making it more scary than it already is" sort of yes. But i like it being a reference to the slope incident better.
But... but 'straight' indicates sexuality! That's offensive! At least, it is according to the BBC.

2:28 And That's Why We Love James May.
It's so nice to see them actually celebrate each other as each of them gets across the bridge. But since they all helped build it I suppose there's some personal pride in seeing the bridge actually being able to support (all of) their lorries.
none of them helped build it and they knew perfectly well they'd make it across since it's made of steel, assembled by an actual construction company off camera and then covered in wood whilst they were getting the shots of them titting about with cranes and whatnot

I loved too watch this special, it was so funny! When the military of Burma greets them and TG Guys goes to get a private talk. Jeremy: "Richard do NOT get drunk" Richard: "ok I won't" A few hours later, Richard is drunk as hell.
At 5:22 You can even see the steel construction lmao 😂
Yes someone on the comments said that
2:32 James May is secretly from Texas. Probably Houston or Pasadena.
I never seem them so proud and enthusiastic about their friend succeeding. Well they did say all of the Lori's had to finish so they can go home.

i love how hammond's isuzu truck has a chevrolet logo on it
Jeremy was wise to go before Richard so to avoid risk of Richard reversing to his sports lorry again. Lol
1:59 and 4:52 At this moment it can be seen that in reality they are really good friends and they don't want anything to happen to one of them.
People will believe they built a bridge to up hold trucks with bamboo and some small pieces of wire.. lol
Never thought I would see the day when James May says YEEHAW in celebration.
I can't believe that bridge actually handled their weights 😂😂👏👏👏👏👌
And Impressively also one of their happiest moments together 😂👏👏👏👏👌
It was made out of metal, and constructed by professionals. The wood was added for look.
@slapypenguins101 It was all for tv. It was a metal bridge that had timber added onto it.
@slapypenguins101 Do some googling. There was no way the BBC was going to send presenters across a timber bridge.
4:34 Hammond's tire is absolutely destroyed
Nope that’s the tire crushing the wood
And the bridge isn't broken down! Incredible!!
That bridge is awesome I am 100% sure the locals will have great use of it, I hope they did not remove the bridge after, the locals could cross that on foot or use it for fishing.
+King Wacky AFAIK they removed it after the shooting. Maybe for safety reasons or because it was blocking the waterway for boats or something like that.
+Geographus666 It was safe it had steel structure underneath so probably for boats
"Following production of the episode, the bridge was taken down, despite the producers and crew wanting it to stay in use for the locals. "
From wikipedia
ekim andersom yes but the people at that location the fisherman live a more primitive lifestyle and the government There don’t spend money on them. You can easily tell that in this video.
@@Rentta I doubt that. If so, they hid it well.
Despite a comment in top saying it was, people are seeing things. I analysed the vids and see no steel anywhere, except for some sheet material on top.
It is possible to build a bridge strong enough to carry a truck from bamboo. Either way, even if the vertical beams are steel, it will not carry a tank. Since that remark (allegedly made by May, from hear say) is bogus, i suspect the entire hear say is bogus and thus there is not a shred of proof there is steel used. Also i do not see a single steel beam lying around anywhere.
I love James May flexing after crossing the Bridge over the river Kok.
"I'm over the river kok! On our own bridge!!!" HAHAHAHAHHAHA
Love the British humor... " you should go first" why? "Cuz he said that" that look 🤣🤣🤣🤣
5:27 between Clarkson's hands in the background you can see the red steel truss behind the bamboo cladding.. so yes there was no chance of them falling in the water, and they knew it..
@@jgo2577 so naive

It’s a shame they tore it down this would’ve helped the locals a lot

I like how the camera work makes us believe it's going to break!!
3:33 I feel like the epic shot of the underside of the Sports Lorry combined with the epic music and the roar of its engine is a perfect personification of the glorious individual that is Jeremy Clarkson.

It's actually kind of nice that they ended up leaving a stable professionally built and engineered bridge for the locals after they were gone.
Those bamboos are really strong if its build properly. In facts, our army's Leopard 2A6 Main Battle Tank could get through it quite easy.
There's a steel superstructure underneath the bamboo cladding. There was no danger of it breaking. Even so, bamboo is stupidly strong anyway to have largely survived all the lorries going over it.
The sad music at the start
top gear are my biggest heroes on cars =)
As much as they hate each other for winning, when they succeed together they're some of the happiest blokes
Speed is key anyone?
Nope.
thought the same thing
speed is the key.. Thats true, simple physics theory..
Well, it's problematic. Going faster over the bridge means that any given point on the bridge has to hold the weight for less time. However, it also means the motion of the trucks' tires on the bridge's surface is less smooth -- any jolting will be heavier and more likely to cause damage.
+AstralDragoon it was just a reference to a RUclips, they regularly say "speed is key"
"James May you should cross first"🤣🤣🤣
Too bad they cut out the bit with the "slope"...
Kaare Hansen "Slope" is apparently a racial slur for an Asian person, and there was controversy about that when the episode first aired. Personally, I've never heard of that term and I'm half Asian myself...
+CWINDOWSsystem32 wasn't the word used "kink" because that IS a slur for Asian people and it makes more sense.
+CWINDOWSsystem32 I'd never heard of it before but why is it a shame that they cut it out?
+specialpatrolgroup92 they cut it of because some Indian journalist was jealous of clarkson and complained.
+Death Clutch Games I meant why is it a shame that they cut it out? I don't think he meant it maliciously but it was racist
By far one of my favorite episodes.

EPIC!
SPEED and POWER!!!!!!!!
Some of their stunts are waaay more dangerous than what some movie stars appear to be doing but where in fact they have stunt doubles. I am really amazed the BBC has insured them against these risks. Because James could have easily flipped sideways, go cab first into water and die.
3:25 its a shot of the car going back across look at the difference in views from 3:25 to 3:27
No .. it's the same . You are blind mate
i remember when i was a kid watchin this episodes. such a good memory
I still wondering, is the bridge over the river kok still there in 2019?
It's taken 5 years, but here's the reply you've been waiting for.
No. The bridge isn't standing now. It was pulled down immediately after the show had finished production. Apparently, the crew wanted it to remain for the locals to use, but permission was refused.
Very good video 👍
