As a foreigner with little language knowledge going through underground music scene of Japan for many days possibly finding bands you already like and learning about many new others, that's a dream right there.
Always a treat whenever youtube recommends these hidden gems! Amazing video, really great and entertaining editing/voiceover on this cool scene I didn't even know existed.
When Bocchi the Rock was airing, I managed to go to Shimokitazawa on a day of a live house festival, unlimited shows all day for 6500 yen. There must have been over 60 bands featured. Went to Shelter (the LH featured in the anime) a couple of times! Great vibes and shopping. 34:49 I remember this guy, Clitoral Squire or something. He was something alright. 38:38 Mononokenonomo, Nashimoto Ui made a bunch of Vocaloid garage rock using Hatsune Miku. Really amazing songwriting. 42:41 Who the bitch, my recording engineer really loves them all the way from the West Coast.
@sadmancaves Hey, thanks for the Subscribe! I'll be checking out yours too! Thanks to your video, I have a few new bands I need to check out too! Btw the big cities in Japan are fun, but the smaller towns and villages are our favorite! Cheers mate! 🤙
Shimokitazawa is kind of the home of Tokyo Live houses (and quite a cool area as well), but there are also loads of venues in Shibuya and Shinjuku. So many great small bands in Japan.
Was in Japan in may and 100% agree adm is fantastic, did they still have the if they sell a 100 drinks its a fee bar. Going back next year if I find some new clubs will post the names
I happened to see Limp Bizkit the day I landed in Tokyo. I went early to see the opening acts who were all Japanese. And then went down the rabbit hole of Harajuku-core bands. Then their Brutal Death, J-rock etc… super cool. Bumped into some young dudes who dig Polyphia and Math Rock at a Karaoke night in Tokyo. Loved it. They’re a different breed when drunk 😂
Great video! There's always SO MANY gig options on any given night in Japan. I was there a few weeks back and managed 19 gigs in 19 days - all killer. Watching this really makes me want to go back again (already! 😅).
@@sadmancaves yeah Osaka is great! I was bouncing all over... all up I caught gigs in Kurashiki, Hiroshima, Okayama, Osaka, Kyoto, Nagoya, Gifu, Yokohama and Tokyo.
Ente a ver el video y fue como sumergirme en otro mundo... No se explicar lo q vi... Me sentia completamente ajeno... Pero cautivado... Se agradece este tour musical... Es lo más original en videos sobre Japon que he visto ultimamente... Very Arigato xD
Killer vid bro. This is one of my favourite vids i’ve seen in a while, such a cool and interesting topic that i’m passionate about! Thanks for giving me more information and i hope i can do something like this soon!
Man, I could have used some guidance when I went. I looked around for live music but was too intimidated to explore random basements and rooms. I did go to Deathmatch in Hell in Golden Gai and bought a shirt that I can't wear cause it has boobs and gore on it.
Hi! I've been wondering who the artist is for 12:23? I love their music but I think the link you provided was dead :< Can you share her name so I can look her up?

honestly i'd never heard of any of these bands before seeing them.
for those who are searching, the sound & spirit of the 90s alt rock is inherited & preserved by Japan.
also the cd market is still alive and well, and they still have distros

That sounds cool as, do these live house festivals happen all year around or is it just a summer thing?
You sir, have experienced what I wish I could've indulged in on my recent trip to Japan. There's always next time. Thanks for the inspiration! 🤘
Poked a bit around your channel, looks like you guys had a great time over there. Hope to get out of the cities a bit more when i go back.

i'll take that as a complement, some of their stuff from 10 years ago is really good

I saw limited express has gone play in nz about 20 years ago, the singer was bass then, was so good, lost the cd!
Nice, were they part of that warped tour that went to au/nz?
It was an independent tour, songs off feed you! Album actually they stayed at my friends house now that I think about it!
Big Punk/Rock/Ska live house scene in Kansai too. Highly recommended.
Awesome, I'll try check it out next time i visit the country.
