  • This week’s video was recorded on a Tuesday when the weather got suddenly colder for a few days, prompting me to take off work. I had been wanting to get the puppies out in the big woods for their first romp and it seemed like the perfect day to do it. At Only 3.5 months old, they were still too small around the neck to properly wear a tracking collar, so I had to be selective about where I let them out and relied on them staying glued to their mom, Coulee. Roux was along for the ride to, and I made sure he got plenty of road time.
While I’m always hopeful that at any moment my two white belt bobcat dogs in-training will go around the next corner, blow up on a strike then get a cat running, this early in the season I’m satisfied just knowing that every mile I run them down the road they are getting more conditioned and in better hunting shape. It’s a slow, long game, this hound hunting.
The puppies, I discovered, were more wild and unruly than I was expecting … but we all made it home in one piece. Overall, they stayed close to the big dogs, but there were a few times where they straight up bolted the opposite direction down the road urged on by their impulse to simply run as fast as their legs would allow.
It may not be the most interesting or exciting video content to some, but if you like watching puppies bop around experiencing the mountains for the first time, I hope you enjoy this week’s video.
