11:35 - Ok, I get that the idiot is illegally merging without giving way as they're supposed to (crossing dotted line, so no zip merge), but surely they saw this way going to end either with the other driver going off the road or with a collision between the vehicles. Sometimes you just need to slow down a little and let the idiot barge their way in. Not worth it to stand your ground.
Exactly,we don't want to encourage bad driving behaviour by letting them get away with it, but the rigmarole, paperwork & aggravation of dealing with the insurance companies when we stand our ground like this guy did,has far more complications attached to it than just backing off & letting the imbecile's cut in does
Finally a comment that actually understands the road rules.
I think the insurance company would have more to say about the cammer taking zero action to avoid the accident rather than who was in the right.
When it's at that point I'm just 'Let them in'.. It's safer that way.
Safety is everyone's responsibility. Often that means letting fuckheads speed and cut in and do all sorts of shit. Drive the way that you wish everyone else drove. Treat others as you want to be treated. The law is just a minimum standard of behaviour we all have to follow. You can, in fact, choose to be better.
What I learned from this video:
1. Always have a dash cam in your car
2. Use arse-holed instead of rear-ended
2 dash cams - front and rear!
3. If you have passengers, synchronise your exclamations at time of impact

By that I mean just because you see them drive of screen doesn't mean they aren't just finding somewhere safe to park before rendering assistance
@Matthew Cycling : In SE Asia it is mandatory to have a dashcam with certain insurance companies. No dashcam = no insurance. That may happen in Oz as well. It's possible that the video has been "leaked" onto the Internet by an insurance employee, not the camcar driver.

It's really equal fault. The 4x4 merging had absolutely no right on a dotted line to push their way in, but the guy recording clearly had no interest in avoiding the collision.

In Germany we have a system called zip merging, where the cars from two lanes have to give way to each other in turns at the point where the lanes merge. This allows for more fluent traffic flow.
So in that case the driver who didn't make space would be 100% at fault.
Having had a bicyclist hit my car in the dark I can say its a truly harrowing experience seeing a body on the road and wondering if they're dead.

Dear drivers: stop thinking you’re a saint by giving way when you aren’t supposed to, especially on a multi-lane road. It causes unnecessary risk and confusion.
Exactly this. When you do things (no matter how kind or generous) you're not supposed to, it makes you unpredicatble, and therefore dangerous.
Ive had one lane wave me a across and I’m like Nope!! Both lanes ended up stopping leaving a very big gap to let me through... Still it’s scary asf at peak hour when they do that... sure they’re being nice, but just no...
A cyclist almost killed himself on my bonnet one day. I was crossing two lanes of traffic in congestion, both lanes gave way to me as they were in stop start traffic anyway. A cyclist was riding down the middle of the stopped cars and went straight into the front side of my car as I crossed. Tried to blame me for his stupidity. This was long before lane splitting was allowed for bikes in traffic.
If you don't give way and cause a collision then you're the one in the wrong. Just like that idiot in the video, he's actually at fault.
But also, if the next line over is full of stopped cars, slow the fuck down until you can safely figure out why! Chances are pretty high that not doing so risks an accident.

Yeah I’m watching and I’m like to my partner “That’s here!!” I actually named the road in my comment. I mean that intersection is bad for accidents but that one was just like wtf, were you even looking P plater in white car?
Two things I learned: 1) Be extra careful around traffic lights. 2) Beware the blind spot when turning across two lanes. BTW, I was surprised by some of the bad behaviour after the accidents.
I feel so bad for the guy who hit the kid on the bike. It wasn't his fault but I can't imagine how I'd feel if that happened to me.
It's not a good feeling at all. Happened to me years ago, thankfully the kids was ok. Now I am more cautious when I see kids on the road on push bikes.
Best bet is to not stop when the car infront of you is going. Biggest issue is the car in the lane next to you. Both them and the pedestrian can’t see each other especially if there a line of cars behind you.

She tried to speed ahead of him and get in front instead of slow down and wait for a chance to merge like a normal person would, then proceeded to cut him off despite having room to the left to avoid a collision. The guy filming doesn't have to give way to an asshole forcing their way in (and speeding, upping the danger in the first place), they dug their own grave at that point driving so recklessly. Would I have slowed and let them in? Probably, and I would've honked for ten seconds straight. But was the person driving to blame? No, they were not the ones speeding and recklessly merging.

Same thing happened to me while I was turning on a dirt road, only I crashed into a barb wire fence with thick wooden post. Funny thing is the fence had way more damage than my vehicle did, my ute only ended up with a small dent and a scratch.

Are you okay mate? It seems as if you think it's normal to slam the brakes and go into a preventive panic whenever something happens on the road. That driver had about two, maybe three seconds to react and stop to a situation that unusual.

A lot of this could have been avoided.
As a motorcyclist this is one of the most dangerous things you can do and the cause of many crashes as people change lanes as they want to get into the free lane.
Yup. High speeds through intersections and past stationary/slowing vehicles was a common theme in this compilation. Slow down when approaching a busy intersection or anywhere that's busy that you might need to stop at a short distance. It isn't rocket science
Its the ones when one entire lane is slowing to a stop and they continue as if nothing is happening. They are slowing for a reason, read the road.
Also, from someone who lives in a city with a ton of red light runners: you NEVER want to be the first one to jump right into an intersection after the light turns green if you can at all help it. Slowly accelerate and look around while proceeding.

I see this all the time. There are too many "Good Samaritan" drivers on the road creating situations like this, thinking they are doing their good deed for the day. I'm talking about the car in the left lane. They give way when they should not. They create dangerous situations for pedestrians and other drivers. Encouraging kids to cross the road in front of you is stupid. Kids trust adults. My sister spent a week in hospital 35 years ago due to ignorant drivers in the same sort of situation.

You learned to drive in Australia didn't you? The car in the left hand lane does not have priority, this happens all the time in Australia. They will go in the left hand lane that is ending shortly and slam on the acelerator to try and get in front of you, causing you to slam on your brakes to avoid an accident. Undertaking in most countries around the World is ILLEGAL. This shit infuriates me. Why didn't the car just slow down and go behind? They were about level, and the car in the right hand lane has priority. Why do you think he should have slowed down to let them in? Why shouldn't the car in the left lane slow down and just go behind?

2 lanes into 1 go into one lane by order of Left right left right and so on. In an ideal world this works.. but you always get the drivers who want to wait at the next set of lights quicker
Wouldn't it be lovely if the vw slowed down.. it was pretty obvious that they weren't and I (like any normal being) would chose to slow down and just let her in to avoid taking the front of my car off.. from that clip it is almost as if he goes for the accident.

I think they were both pricks. The 4WD driver is trying to pull ahead at the very last part of the merge lane to get ahead. Usually to get someone to let you in you need to give them a bit more notice than that. It should never be a "desperation merge" where you're running out of road. But once it was apparent the truck was coming over, the dash cammer could've avoided the accident by braking and pulling back. Two stubborn idiots who refused to budge an inch because they just HAD to have that coveted spot behind the white Subaru.
Still astounds me that a lot of these crashes could of been avoided just by a little more anticipation of what the vehicle at fault was about to do.
Watched loads of these, must be expensive to get insurance over there, holy moly

Why does everybody have to ruin their day because somebody rolled their car going 25 kph. It was a very safe modern car and I would be surprised if they had serious injuries.

Sounded like he was on a call as well. Good demonstration of why you should try to minimise distractions while driving - your mind wanders and you go into auto driving mode and then you're more likely to make a mistake like that.

Plus, you're wrong. The merging vehicle was well ahead. Only a complete bellend and a criminal would speed up to try and cut out the merging vehicle.
Well, I hope he got his kicks out of causing that collision, as he'll pay for the SUV driver's damages as well as get demerit points plus a possible conviction for deliberately causing an accident. Expensive way to compensate for your insecurities I'd say.
