Thankyou for this video. I've found it hard to find videos to do with 'christian gentle parenting' that aren't looking at it from a negative way. Parenting our family, we follow a lot of the gentle parenting guide lines, because they echo the scripture, but as you said we disregard some things too. I think there is a massive misunderstanding of gentle parenting in Christian circles. That gentle parenting equals dismissive parenting, which is completely incorrect.

I would disagree about how the “I” statements are used. Saying they need to do something because “I feel sad” is manipulative and makes it all about me. No, we engage critical thinking and ask “what do you need to do so we can leave on time?” The “I” statements phrasing is more about expressing how you feel. Rather than “he makes me so mad when…” you state “I feel mad”. Own the feeling rather than blaming someone else.
Also discipline is about teaching and correcting, not necessarily punishment. The word “disciple” comes from the same root. We can teach and mentor our kids and still be a firm kind authority with appropriate boundaries and consequences.
Video Quote: “Having others change their behavior because of a certain style of our parenting is not preparing our children to live as faithful disciples in a fallen world. In a fallen world, not everyone is going to conform their behavior to meet our child's every need. That is not how the world works. We live in community with one another, & it's difficult. And, it's messy because we are sinful, fallen, broken people. So we cannot just control & manipulate & alter the behavior of others to meet our parenting style.”
The irony 🙃 of the quote, above… Isn’t that exactly what you’re asking your children to do? 🤔 Change their behavior because of your preferences, as a parent/society. Conforming their behavior to meet society’s &/or the parent’s need, want, request, or demand. As you said in the video… “we cannot just control, manipulate, & alter the behavior of others (eg. our children) to meet our parenting style.”
✋No judgement, to each their own, just saying… Self awareness & understanding of one’s own behavior, goes both ways (Child↔️parent).
Nonetheless, I definitely enjoyed the beginning of this video. #BehaviorVsPerson👏

Children are HUMANS, too.
MUTUAL (reciprocal) Love, empathy, respect, understanding, emotional (co)regulation, healthy boundaries + emotional safety, etc. is taught by simply being a GOOD #RoleModel (not an authoritarian). The world is harsh enough, just be their safe harbor, they’re going to make mistakes, they’re human & need to know they’re safe to make those mistakes with you. 🫂 💕
Thank you for taking the time to comment. You bring up an important point about how we should respond to our children when they sin.
We agree with you that we are not to manipulate our children’s behavior. But we are to guide them in understanding their behavior, repenting of their sin, and being reconciled to God and to one another. This often will involve discipline, as Scripture makes clear. (Hebrews 12:3-11)
Manipulating the behavior of other adults to match our parenting style is different than fulfilling the role God has given us as parents to lovingly raise our children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. (Ephesians 6:4) The former is beyond the bounds of Scripture, the latter Scripture commands.
I keep hearing from Christians that spanking is Biblical Parenting. What is your perspective on this?

I think people read the Bible with a western view and project an American culture on it and not in context of the Bible written in Hebrew in Greek... Unfortunately people are not diving deep enough in prayer and going by other interpretations which could be biased and flawed... From my understanding the rod was used in shepherding sheep and guiding them into safe and healthy boundaries.. I don't believe Shepard's beat sheep into submission from my understanding 😊❤ thank you for the information..😊
