This is an excellent video and you are a newly crowned legend. Couple added bits of context that might be helpful. Hiroya and Hateley was under the original set of rules where OMT's needed to be at a higher standard (85) and Incompletes were harder to obtain. That was changed after LB, but I think that would have been a OMT under current judging. Field and LZ has been discussed infinity times, but the basis was that LZ stopped unnaturally or purposefully after the hit, after it was said in the drivers meeting, if you are bumped, try to let the natural course of events unwind because contact is common at RA. The judges made a judgement call and it turned out to be right, as Adam admitted he stopped on purpose. So both Field and LZ have an Incomplete on Run 2 and going back to run 1, 2 judges thought Field edged out LZ and one thought Run 1 was even. Rome and Odi was appealed and that document can be found out there if you want to track it down, but I think almost everyone on the competition team believes that was a bridge too far for contact, even though Rome had a hard time staying in drift with that car and had not completed a full set of runs from the start to finish the entirety of the event. Castro v. Forsberg is a battle of, what can you prove? It may very well be the case Castro was going off, even though the speed he was carrying was below his highest speed that he had made that corner in prior laps, but CF does hit him in an area he should not and that is what we have to work off. Castro isn't doing anything wrong and CF hits him in. You can't say Castro was going too fast because his speed wasn't above a threshold that he had completed that corner before. All you can say is CF hits Castro, which is a bummer, but it should not happen in that area. A good general principle to remember when talking about contact or anything that plays a role in how Driver A reacts to Driver B is cause and effect. Look at what you think the cause is and does the thing that follows from it appear to be the actual effect. If you can do that, you can tackle a large part of the tricky calls and even ferret out if you think someone is flopping, which is where a lot of this really taking apart contact has come from because people have made such a big deal about people doing that. Anyway, tremendous video. Love it!
Mad props on the video, i think people need to understand this deff gives some context on it, i have not missed a round in a while an have bin in the RUclips chat and i mean its bin insane some of the stuff people are saying! Im a huge fan of FormulaDrift, love what they do, its a crazy amount of work to put on events, got all the respect to them and the judges, its not a easy job But i dont think they suck at all 💯percent all fair calls in eyes
this kinda why i mostly enjoy watching drift masters instead, the judging is alot more fair, and the clearly explain to you as well what they're looking for from the drivers so you have an idea of what to expect with the line, and also im opinion the commentary is alot more engaging and enthusiastic really highlighting the epicness of certain runs compared to FD
But to play Devils advocate, DM favors proximity over angle/mirroring the lead. Which to me is lame(Hiroya has been oddly awarded for it alot in fd as well this year). Chase drivers using very little angle to be close instead of matching the lead is lame to watch, it's much more enjoyable to watch both cars over 70⁰ even if there's a gap. Having one car at over 70⁰ and one less than 40⁰ looks horrible. Drift Masters qualifying has been very sporadic as well, two drivers could have mirrored Runs and the scores could be over ten points apart(used to happen in fd as well). I think both have plenty of issues and I think it's time drifting eliminates qualifying at every level
1st one....should have been a OMT. 2nd one....should have been an automatic win in lead for Adamlz for the chase stopped drift which should he an automatic run 0.
It's not that they are bad judges per se, it's that they carry heavy biases. Calls always go for Feild, Forsberg, (basically anyone that had Falken livery), and a couple other drivers. While calls always would go against certain others like LZ, Rad Dan, Barion. This year it's been different, but worse because they are trying to rush the decisions faster and not go OMT as often. The basis remains, but the amount of drivers that seem to carry the judges favor are far fewer, and it even seems that Forsberg has found himself on the judge's bad side.
@@yung_kuku because since literally the beginning of time, when a chase incompletes, the lead still needs to finish the run. That might be why because the lead has clear air and it’s not a safety issue to the lead if the chase incompletes behind you, which it would be the other way around.
Was hoping to hear your opinion on the apparent sand bagging by some drivers like Dimitry and minowa. How do you feel about judges not really taking lead speed into account and penalizing chase drivers for being choppy behind super slow leads? especially when the leads are a few seconds slower than the average and slower than when hes in the chase.
@@IfcproductionsLLC oh oh oh, I go on for days about this. And should’ve touched on it (maybe I’ll make a second video on it). It’s quite controversial. But my opinion on it. It honestly shouldn’t matter. Comparing Dmitry and Hirowa… those are two different situations. Dmitry literally stomps on the breaks and is DANGEROUSLY slow especially at fun events and not FD. Like I mean rolling burnout slow. He is on record for going dangerously slow when even a 300hp car is chasing him. Minowa is not sand bagging though (think back to Noback in Irwindale 2023). He is not doing anything inherently wrong. Sandbagging is going super fast or super slow in practice, then in battle, would be either super fast or slow. Spotting at these events, they are consistently slow the whole event. And that’s fine. That’s his driving style, it is more so focusing on the line, not trying to speed run the course. Minowa at Seattle was 1.5 seconds slower than say LZ, which comparatively isn’t bad. He was a little slower on the bank. But the driver, spotter, and team should communicate with one another to say “Hey Minowa, Dmitry, etc is 1.5 seconds slower, let’s take some grip out for this battle to make it easier to try and stay behind them and stick it to the door.” Because imo, if you drive a stupid fast, gripped car that’s incredibly difficult to drive… you loosen er up and have a super easy to drive car, you can door the piss out of anyone who’s slow. In my opinion, it’s not sandbagging, it’s drivers not compensating for someone who’s slightly slower (which again isn’t a bad thing, drifting has never been about speed, unless you look back to like 2007-2010).
@@brandongardner404 While speed is definitely secondary to line/style/angle, it's always relevant. You aren't going to win a battle if the lead walks away from you while still putting down a good run while they are then able to stay on you no matter what you do. Being choppy in the chase isn't as bad as not being able to get anywhere near even when cutting line.. Why else would all the teams in FD or DMEC run their cars so gripped up?
I think if the judges had more real-time information available to them, I think the calls would become much more consistent. As someone mentioned below, one camera for the wheel - one for the pedal box. The accel/decel lights and drone has really upped the game. I think drones were introduced in 2016? That has had the single most, in my opinion, made calls even more consistent. Judges make wrong calls, and some that have really made me even question motive. But would I want the job? Helll no. For the most part I think judges usually have good calls. They don't have forever to make calls - and like you said, the rules can be somewhat vague.
completely agree with the forsberg/field battle, to me that seemed pretty clear cut. As for the LZ/field battle, i think in theory he should've won that but at the same time the judges can only judge off the information they have. I have said it many times in the past, if the judges want to make the most accurate call possible they need to have the ability to see what's happening within the car, because often times in these types of situations there's a massive disconnect between what we all see from the outside and what's actually happening from the inside of the car.
1. Andy straightens the car, zero for the run, nothing to talk about that. 2. should have been zero for both. So the deciding run was the Matt's lead. OMT could have been justified. 3. Diego had wheels locked before the hit, used hadbrake long time, error. Was it a decel-zone? 4. Castro did a strategic move. Not a big hit at all, but a hit. Just let the car slide, and get the run for you. Same happened in DM Ireland Korpulinski vs. Heinonen. 5. Forsbergs lead sucked. Fields lead was deeper in the zones, and easier to chase. Brandon you were spot on. Judges has to clarify straight what led to the decision. Look at Driftmasters. After that, the judging can be critisized. And again, it is a judging sport like figure skating or gymnastics. The only measurements are that how deep you hit the clipping points, and that it done by eye.
About Diego, I think it was on the appeal of Odi that this apear, but, in the first corner they shouldn't apply the brake, so Rome "forces" the accident by slowing down in that entry, in bouth runs, but only in the second he was penalized, because of that it was such amount of rage from Brazilians
I've semi tuned in to FD broadcasts here and there since the beginning of time. The fact FD has been around for so long and the rules and judging is still ever-changing to this day says enough. They need multiple in-car camera's, one for the drivers steering and one showing the pedal box.
Every sport changes rules and processes as needed typically because if the sport is dynamic and ever-changing, it will require that. MLB, one of the oldest sports institutions in America (not dynamic) just went through a massive rule shift because of the way the sport was going. They change the balls all the time, they are looking at computer umpiring. All of this is for fairness and to make the game better, easier to watch and more impactful. It's actually what you need to do instead of just being like, ya this sucks but we'll keep it. In drifting the cars, driving tactics and in particular the loud fans are constantly evolving, not even every year, but every event, so it actually kind of makes sense. Not only that, the rule changes actually are not even that big when looked at in context and from here it will probably be refinements, but we also have two Series to worry about and that informs almost every single format, timing and judging decision and so what you do has to work not for a single championship but two at the same time.

I think the only way the judges can make more informed decisions is to have in car footage of driver inputs or have ecu telemetry showing it along with some G-meters, to show exactly how the car is affected by different hits (be that wall hits or other cars) with various thresholds for calling something rubbing panels vs impacts.
More tools to examine exactly what is going on in the cars.
@dzzope ye almost every single run I judged myself at the comfort of my own crib, we're pretty much spot on with every winner like I said 99%. I've really enjoyed this season as a whole!!
“Would love to grab a…. something. Drink…” 😂😂
10:30 you might wanna vut this a little, you have both takes
Lz always robbed 😂😂
They have no credentials to be judges, it's just 2 random drifters and a movie reviewer. Formula drift is where the phony drivers thrive.
Bad judging bias to certain drivers
Same with the commentary half the time chatting shit about completely irrelevant shit and kissing the American drivers arses
POV You’re Rhys Tatterson: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

People need to stop crying about calls. End of story. It's a judged sport, if you don't like the calls, don't watch. Simple.
Yessir! Thank goodness for DMEC
Terrible take. The integrity of the judging is required to ensure there is a purpose to even compete.
