I am more impressed by how race-cars from 100 years ago are still being pushed to the limit. As well as the courage and skill to drive them!
Modern cars are so much more impressive, respect the engineers.
@@aj897 I never said modern cars and their engineering are not impressive. It has to be! But it is easy to forget the engineers that built racecars 100 years ago did not even have any technology close to what we have today. I think they deserve some respect.
I'm a modern racing fan but that S76 always gets me lol. A car from 1910, it's huge, 28.4-liter, does it get any crazier? I love it.
190 in the old Auto Union. That's crazy speed now let alone 70 odd years ago. Impressive.
@@ArnoldVette and we would not have a lot of that technology and advancements in Motorsport if it weren’t for the raw skill and ingenuity of those engineers decades before us

Difference in race is in front of you - it's split of the seconds against EV
@razzor4708 The van is based on the Ford transit van. Also , that subaru was made specifically for this event. It's hardly a production vehicle (yet).
The “van” has 2000hp , the Subaru “only “ 670hp . It’s a miracle the Subaru is so close to that Ev garbage
@ThaDutchDK1989 The van weighs over 1500 lbs more. It's over 4000 lbs with the driver. If the van had a big block pushing 2000 hp (instead of EV), would you still cry about it?

Jake Hill smashing it in that Calsonic R32 gets me everytime. He really put on a show this year.
Agreed 👍🏻 ❤️
that run sent chills down my spine, what a spectacle
Supervan so fast it travels back to 2023
even when the title will be rectified this comment still be the winner
It’s a shame they overlap cars running up the hill as we miss a lot of the entire runs we want to see. I get there’s a lot to fit in over the day but I believe this is the highlight and should be given adequate time to show entire runs of each car.
Also live splits over previous years, were a great way to see the fastest accelerating cars at the first split, for example. It also adds excitement to watching each run up the hill, you should be able to watch without commentary telling you.
I think Michael Lyons was robbed of his time all together too because of a timing issue.
Still very exciting to watch, just a few things missing this year that should be flagged.
@murrayshepherd2087 I agree! I Prefered watching previous years shootouts
Definitely an improvement from 2023 (even though the title is wrong for some reason), though there are still a number of camera/technical issues thatll hopefully be ironed out for 2025
Wish the sector times + end pf run top speeds would return as well... Not to sure why these would be removed as no one asked for that
Sector times were nice for sure
Consider that it took an AWD monster, specifically built for FOS, to beat an off-the-shelf endurance racing Porsche 911. That is an impressive car.
Is it though? It's still nearly 10% slower than the winner. Whats more impressive is how fast the 70's cars are, not to mention a bolt-for-bolt recreation of a 1990 touring car.
@@warwicksworkshop9511 slower by a fraction with 1,300 less horsepower and a driver who's experiencing the track for the first time in his life vs a previous 2x goodwood champion so.....?
uhhhh, no. that is not a "off the shelf" racing porsche.... that car was SERIOUSLY modified. it was modified to the point that there is literally nothing else they can do to improve on it. it has every possible modification you can think of for that car.
@@orion7741 he said off the shelf because that Porsche was built for CUP Racing. It’s a race car. A standard race car and not a hillclimb machine.
The GT3 Cup isn’t the same as the GT3 RSR - the latter is for GT3 endurance racing, the former is a “sprint” machine
Travis on win it or bin it mode always brings a smile to my face…
For an event with such expensive cars, they really need some better camera people and cinematographer
What’s wrong with the camera work?
On Saturday half of the cars didn’t even have a running time set on the screen or even show at the finish line, the announcers didn’t even know if you look back a couple of years the quality seems to have gone down
Why is it so hard to do a reverse qualifying order? It’s a bit sad to see it jump from 61s to 47s (at 11:00 in the video). It’s all about the buildup and seeing different era cars and comparing their performances
@@rexdub1040 ikr. It's also weird that they stopped dividing the compilations between racecars and road cars. Kinda weird to see an open wheeler right after the Rolls Royce Spectre
They actually did the reverse running order from qualifying the day before iirc. But at the end of the qualifying it started to rain, so some of the faster cars, like the Czinger you mentioned, were only able to do slowish times. It actually qualified that low in the order.
I just want to point out the Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 took out some very powerful contenders and makes since of the GODZILLA'S name.
@@micahdavidmorningstar4176 I agree that it was an amazing run, but I would rather the name have made sense, since the name was given to it sensefully. Grammar, who'd a thunk it. 😏🤟👍🇺🇲

Should there be a different class for EV's?
It strikes me as pretty nutty that the course is so narrow.
What happened to the single seater that won in 2023? I know thy updated elements for 2024 but did it not place? That thing is rapid!
5:33 so this one is actually very interesting, before the war, the man who created these machines to race, was turned to making some of the most well known machine guns from their time. Incredible.
So many mistakes and technical issues this year. You need to hire some better people to run the media side of things.
@@everybodylovesaids your acting like this crap is EASY to do and record ! Dang there are so many corners and curves and there are so many people that are taping it that some of the things get messed up sometimes ! They haven't had these kinds of problems before so they will get it straitened out next year !
I know some of the challenges of streaming a hillclimb. The team behind the FoS coverage are pros and will have been trying everything possible with the tech issues they had this year. As for any mistakes with things like captions or commentary, it is a very fluid event with the running order constantly changing, drivers swapping cars etc and there is more to keep on top of than a typical race meeting. I'm glad they make this available and don't hide it behind a paywall.
How hard would it be to add a split screen view? So many times you end up missing runs of great cars. It’s either that or the timing isn’t working. Why not add a live timing order to the screen to give some context to the other cars? The commentators are reading it out loud, just add it to the screen 🤷♂️
@@shannacollins4741 quality bait
@@shannacollins4741
What are you on about? It's a very short course, and a timed one at that. Meaning there's no overtaking for the announcers to contend with. They also know the exact order of every vehicle and have had months to prepare for it.
Too much of the commentary consists solely of them describing what we can all see.
"And now he's taking a quick right-left and then hes's driving down a short straight before braking for the next curve..."
The quality of commentary is poor. For one of the premier global motorsports events, it's surprisingly bad.

A rolls 1 second slower than a 488 challenge. That's insane.
4:44 there were 9 w125s built before the war, in which 8 were lost, and then this one right here, the sole survivor, was found in OK shape in the 60s near the border of Poland

Pastrana went a little to hard this time. You could see it in the first turn. And the way he approached malcolm was nuts.
“ Second place, you’re still smiling? “ That was petty.
I wonder how many that go to Goodwood FoS know other hillclimb's exist? Anyone been to other events like Shelsley Walsh, Doune or Prescott?
And some of them are even live streamed 🙂
Even if half of the entries here actually enter on other hillclimbs... That would've been a huge boost to other events...
