Got myself a bottle of Slane yesterday, absolutely love it. Simple, smooth, and has that wicked traditional Irish butterscotch mixed with spice element that I love. Cheap and cheerful, great dram.
The demented look on Rex's face as he smells the Bunnahabhain 12 is priceless. Little did we know he was about to fit the whole bottle into a single glencairn, alas his eagle mooch powers are not yet strong enough to fight off hobbit bear sommooching. HR have been contacted and eagle talons sharpened.
I did a mild double take when I saw the title of this video. As of 12/8/18 I had never knew it existed, but I was at a whiskey tasting that was going on at the liquor store my brother works at. There were at least nine tables set up with a number of bottles of varying sorts (it was mainly a scotch tasting) but I did see an Irish, and as someone who has learned the GLORY that is Red Breast 12 (thanks to you two) I was curious to try an Irish I have never heard of. I definitely bought a bottle that day because I enjoyed it as another Irish to add to my ever growing collection and that will keep me cozy over the coming colder months. I didn't have the option to add water to the drink (if only for the smell) but I am looking forward to testing it out once I open the bottle. Very glad to see this coincidental video show up JUST after I got my hands on this. Sláinte
I was working on that distillery for a year! Built in a 200yr old farm right next to Slane Castle. Beautiful place and surroundings. I’ve also had the pleasure of getting a couple of bottle down the neck - lovely drink!!
Discovered this whiskey a little over a year ago at one the "classy" bars I like. It's become my go to Irish and whiskey I poor when friends stop by as it's easy to drink and more complex then Jameson or Bushmills.
How about a Christmas episode with ghosts of whiskey past, whiskey present, and whiskey future? Sounds like something for the whiskey tribe channel. How bout it? (if you haven't already shot everything for the rest of the year that is)
Picked up one of those mini bottles a few weeks ago at TW to just try something different and fell in love with this whiskey. A very nice take on the traditional Irish whiskey recipe.
This is for Daniel. Maybe get a dozen or so "Perfect Dram 3.04 oz" whisky glasses from Urban Bar. I think they are around $3 each. Still the same shape as the Glencairn but 1/3 of the price. I think it's the perfect tasting glass for folks that's used to a Glencairn. No sin is greater than wasting whiskies.
Damn, really at 7:28. It is 3-15-19. I went into a Spirits store here in Kansas. They were giving out free samples of this whiskey. Being Irish, certified by Ancestary.com, I have always wanted to try an Irish whiskey. I grew up on American whiskey. So I tried the sample. I was waiting for the backlash of fire, which thankfully never came. Instead, the taste got better as I walked around the store. I told the clerk that was good. I think I will buy a bottle for my husband later.
I love how every time Rex is about to make a point Daniel cuts him off, and you can totally tell it pisses Rex off lol. I’m with u Mooch, it annoys me as well!
I had an interesting idea yesterday... has anyone every distilled an already aged whiskey? what would that do? would you just get the clear spirit back or would there still be other things that the barrel added.
Whiskey Tribe! I need your advice. I recently have been gifted a gift card to my local liquor store (yay) but I am undecided as to what to get. I am debating between the Talisker 18 v the Glenfarclas 21 OR do the Talisker 10 AND the Glenfarcas 12. What should I do???
We're fans of Slane. Such a good kick back and relax Irish. The thing that's interesting about Slane is how they're target is "Whiskey with Rock and Roll roots."
Glad u got to taste Slane IW. Slane castle is just 30min drive from my house and they are having open days over Christmas to come to the distillery and look around and taste the brand also buy a few bottles 😎 🥃 I’m new to whiskey or rather new to enjoying it properly. By the way I love Redbreast 12.
You magnificent bastards. I finally got around to trying eleanor. Some new acquaintances of mine had two of the expressions. I dont know which one exactly but I loved it. Looking forward to whatever else you guys put out and I'm hoping for something leaning more towards scotch. Also, got to try Ballechin 10. Amazing stuff. Tastes like ardbeg turned up to 12.
Triple Casked. Virgin Oak Casks first, like bourbon requires,.. then used Bourbon casks like Scotch requires,... then used Sherry Casks for finishing. Well, they certainly put some effort and time into their product!! I got a bttl today for $19. Yee Haw!!
Love Irish whiskey, but Slane makes my stomach hurt every time I have tried it...had a bottle at home and gave it to a friend. Nice taste, smells good, but can't drink it for some reason.
I'm in the same exact boat as Larry. My favorite is the classic laddie so much so that I picked up a bottle of the organic 09 last week. Bunnahabhain is also on my short list to be sure and I was excited when I heard about the unpeated caol lla runs.... until I saw the prices. With a flavor profile as niche as unpeated islay me and Larry need our own whisk(e)y list video made. Hint hint.
Nobody want to just eat a stick of butter? Speak for yourself! Have you guys been to Scotland? I was there for two weeks and visited 20 distilleries in June 2018 and I'm going back in July 2019. Isaly is definitely a "must visit."
bun na habhann = the bottom of the river. Which is how we say the mouth of the river in Irish. The bh in habhann makes a Vh sound in Gaelic so to get closer to the pronunciation sub in the V sound haVhann
Buy the Stag but hold on to it. Just went to Buffalo Trace this summer and they said it was going to be in extremely short supply due to excessive evaporation.
How can it be Beam barrels when its Tennessee bourbon barrels? Daniel got it wrong again. It’s ether Jack Daniels or George Dickel. I would go with Jack being they got help from Brown Forman for their distillery which owns Jack.
@@stanislavmigra no its definitely not beam. Brown Forman also owns Woodford reserve and old forester. I'm banking on old Forester because that is their pride and joy. Brown Forman is also one of the few suppliers in the industry that owns their own cooperage. So definitely not beam
If you do decide to buy whiskey on the secondary market (particularly bourbons, I live in Kentucky) can you give some guidelines on how to make sure it's authentic (and not something different put into an original bottle)? I'm not interested in paying 400 dollars for a fake buffalo trace antique collection
Daniel, I just saw a pretty full glass of Bunnahabhain 12 in your hand doing the fighting stealing and drinking. Where did this whisky come from? Who gave it to you? 😳 Guys I love your show, keep on the good work, and Daniel have a good Speyside time 😁
Mmmmm tried Slane about 2 months ago and was very impressed with it. Especially for $25. Also, it's kinda funny watching Daniel get upset about certain pours. With THAT much Whiskey in the background. I wonder how many of those bottles have gone flat? What was the time table that was given awhile back? About 18 months if stored perfectly? Just makes me chuckle, but does show the passion for Whiskey he has as well.
Thats not a personal collection all that whiskey is used for the school and other various things amd all those bottles are drank and subsequently replaced unopened.
I came from a bourbon (Buffalo Trace I believe) to some bunnahabhain 12. It really did bring a bit of mustiness and some salt type funk out. I didn't necessarily recognize the other islay type flavors, sans peat, until I did such a stark comparison
Well the moment the bloke poured the Bunna - things got uncomfortable really fast' you could literally see Medallion Man was NOT a happy camper at seeing so much Whisky going to potential waste and the banter was barely hidden behind the gritted teeth. Seems Mr Green Hoody thinks that kind of thing is cute ... 'cringe'. Medallion Man was still steaming right to the end of the review ... ouch! This is why I prefer to drink ALONE!
Daniel: “Nobody wants to eat just butter.” Haaa!!! Obviously you haven’t met my wife. You know those little pads of butter you get in restaurants with your dinner rolls. She calls them butter mints, and will “pop ‘em” as such.
Yeah... But about 30 of the bottles you brought have been sent by multiple people :-) Plus, we've already run out of heady titles to give you. At some point, we're just going to have to rename this entire channel "The Mitch Wettle Vault"

Just got it today and I can say it's easly one of the best not expensive Irish whiskeys. It's on sale in Tesco here in Ireland for €25
About damn time..that's one of my favorite Irish whiskies
Just reserved a fifth at my preferred distributor... :)

Oban 14 was my first "fancy" whisky but Bunna 12 was the one that fully convinced me that whisky is the superior drink.
So many references to Bunnahabhain 12 in the Whiskey Vault vids without a standalone review - for shame!
too true
Daniel - Caol Ila unpeated is here in Houston and it is delicious. It does run around a Hondo but well worth it.
How about a Christmas episode with ghosts of whiskey past, whiskey present, and whiskey future? Sounds like something for the whiskey tribe channel. How bout it? (if you haven't already shot everything for the rest of the year that is)
Did you get the Memo, that is grand idea!
it looks like we might have a story line head that way. would be fun.
Love that idea.

Both!
Talisker!!!
I got the Slane without knowing anything about it - I was looking for Green Spot or Sexton AND TO MY SURPRISE THIS WAS EXTREMELY TASTY & DELICIOUS
Don't tasty and delicious mean the same thing???
@@jonnyfish76 IMO no :D

One of my newest favourite budget Irish. Nice easy sipper
I reckon you guys need to have "it's definately a Speyside" put on a shirt👍
Hey Daniel and rex...what's your desert island whiskey?????
No sweets for daniel paul, citrusy maybe
Laphroaig 10.
"Brilliant but years behind everybody else." 4:58 Rex T-shirts I say
The MOOCH is back in town!
October 12, 2020 - comparing notes...

Slane special edition is fantastic. $8-$10 more a bottle but brings out everything out more. A good daily sipper
Why not create an infinity bottle with all of the leftover pours from the videos?
whisky, all whiskey, should do what ralfy says to do - unchilfiltered, no color added, and higher ABV, i think 46% is a minimum.
Great ending, Daniel!
Will you guys do a meet up in a dublin whiskey bar in june??
You can combine those leftovers and make your own blend. The review of it would be a whole show.
Nobody want to just eat a stick of butter? Speak for yourself! Have you guys been to Scotland? I was there for two weeks and visited 20 distilleries in June 2018 and I'm going back in July 2019. Isaly is definitely a "must visit."
We're hoping to hit it in 2019 sometime!
I believe they use casks from Brown Forman Distilleries , not Beam!
no beam at all. Brown Forman owns their own cooperages so there is now way they are using a competitor barrel.
Easily my favorite Irish Whiskey.
bun na habhann = the bottom of the river. Which is how we say the mouth of the river in Irish.
The bh in habhann makes a Vh sound in Gaelic so to get closer to the pronunciation sub in the V sound haVhann

3 different barrel, one Tennessee, one bourbon and one sherry ... so the bourbon one could be Beam ;)
Dang. I got it have wrong.
@@stanislavmigra no its definitely not beam. Brown Forman also owns Woodford reserve and old forester. I'm banking on old Forester because that is their pride and joy. Brown Forman is also one of the few suppliers in the industry that owns their own cooperage. So definitely not beam
"I'm the ghost of Christmas Go Fuck Yourself." I'm still laughing. You 2!!!!
Hey guys... Could you review Oban Little Bay please?
So it's a Canadian style, Irish Whiskey? Grains distilled independently and then blended? ;-)
Rex has jow become the sassy mooch hahaha. Gotta love that Bunnahabhain 12
With that pour, Dan is still a Level 3 Som, Rex is BACK as a Master Mooch. That was a full dram
Is Ireland going to be a tribe trip or just a vault trip?
both!

Why not make an infinity bottle from all the stuff you don't drink?
Cause they drink it all
What would be the ultimate example of cask strength and nomal strength scotch from each region?
paul huff I just bought The Glenlivet Nadurra 16 y/o .. The stuff is delicious
Gotta love those budget bottles ♥️
have a good time
11:31 daniel with the FU mooch moment lol
haha the tension : D lol
If your heading to Ireland in June, you could check out Metallica who are playing in slane on the 8th.
2:06 Styx cow is in the house! 🐄
Daniel, I just saw a pretty full glass of Bunnahabhain 12 in your hand doing the fighting stealing and drinking. Where did this whisky come from? Who gave it to you? 😳
Guys I love your show, keep on the good work, and Daniel have a good Speyside time 😁
Rex Cratchet was toiling in the vault when he asked Ebbydaniel Scrooge for some more coal for the fire...
It sounds like there are the seeds of an "A Christmas Carol" vault episode.
You need an epic voice-over? I'm in.
Slane is a recent go-to Irish of mine. Subtle? Yes. But Interesting? Definitely.
Mmmmm tried Slane about 2 months ago and was very impressed with it. Especially for $25. Also, it's kinda funny watching Daniel get upset about certain pours. Maybe you guys can relate to this... But Slane tastes somewhat like Jägermeister...
8:19 that mooch face
I just bought slane yesterday and I always got like a fruity BlackBerry taste. Still good tho!
Look at Rex’s glorious mane clawing it’s way back into existence.
Holy shit you guys are coming to Dublin soon !!!
Go to county fair in the Midwest and you can buy deep fried butter.
I came from a bourbon (Buffalo Trace I believe) to some bunnahabhain 12. It really did bring a bit of mustiness and some salt type funk out. I didn't necessarily recognize the other islay type flavors, sans peat, until I did such a stark comparison
Great video guys!
make sure you guys hit up slane when you're there. I've been to so many distilleries and tours in ireland.. Slane and Kilbeggan are always my favs.
After shooting, you should start a "Infinity Glass" for all the left over whiskey... which is a sin! For shame sir, for shame.

Rex, you should respect the beloved Bunnahabhain.
we should do a whyskey trip to ireland and scotland with daniel and rex and some lucky magnificent bastards... i'm in... 😁
The reason you have of Slane Irish Whiskey is because I brought it down! Where's my phhhtttt? And the barrels they use are Jack Daniels and Woodford.

@@WhiskeyVault I don't care about the titles. Where's the ball busting?
Oh.. just you wait
Bunna 18 is unpeated too
I love how these guys bicker.
You guys need to make a video on top ten fuck you whiskey 😂
Nice
Rex is Danial becoming the Whiskey Grinch?
One quality missing from the reviews is the quality of the drunk, different whisky's make me feel like they have a different drunk, need a new review
"Brilliant, But years behind" shirt incoming?
The Grey Ghost, drinking whiskey at the Unions expense! Harrrr...
Pouring of whiskey leading to the spilling of tea!
I think what Rex is looking for is Daniel is becoming a Whine Sommelier!
Whiskey(s) of the year?
Rocking guys have a fun..
I wouldn’t buy another bottle I’ll stick to my Redbreast 12
Top 10. First for me.
About damn time
Whatever level mooch Rex is, he got promoted 3 more levels!
The Spirit Monk[e]y is 10th.
Daniel is a raging hobbit today😂
So cool
LOL.. Mooch & the Scrooge It's like a 70's cop show...
Amazing
