Driving To The UK's HIGHEST Road!

- I take the Jaguar F-Type R to the UK's Highest Road, Cairnwell Pass in Scotland. It was a 4am start, but well worth it, as this was also where Top Gear filmed the original F-Type review with Jeremy Clarkson.
The Cairnwell Pass (Scottish Gaelic: Càrn a' Bhailg) is a mountain pass on the A93 road between Glen Shee, Perthshire, and Braemar, Aberdeenshire, in the Scottish Highlands. The border between the two counties crosses the summit of the pass. With a summit altitude of 670 m (2199 ft), the Cairnwell Pass is the highest main road in the United Kingdom, and at the summit is the Glenshee Ski Centre, Scotland's largest and oldest ski centre. Historically, the pass was a drover's route from the Lowlands to the Highlands. The road is often blocked by snow in the winter, with snow gates at Braemar, at the summit (south of the Ski Centre), and at the Spittal of Glenshee.

Thanks for watching SeenThroughGlass. If you liked this video you may also like videos by Shmee150, Salomondrin, Supercars Of London, Car Throttle, MrJWW and Petrolicious.
hey sam, the driving shots and POV with no music was a right call. thanks for that. great video as usual dude.
Great to hear
Love the film Sam. Made me mourn for my F-Type V8R convertible. If anyone doesn’t think you suffer for your art, worse than the 4AM start, capsule coffee in your hotel. Feeling. Your pain Dude….
Great video, there is nothing like just taking a random side road just because you can !!!!!
Yeah, the boot mounted cam had shaky video but the audio made it amazing.
Absolutely! It looks so good! Early morning drive and raining and hearing only car sound! Wish I could make such great POVs but Respect what STG giving us such great content!
This kind of content will sell Jaguars faster than Carole Baskin can save them.
😂😂Funniest comment of the day mate. That ticked me proper 🤣🤣
Lolol
F*ckin Carol Baskin!!!! 🐯
Elite comment
Excellent 👌👌
Everytime I’m watching STG, I constantly spend time trying to count how many different shots Sam takes for B-Roll. Immense amount of work. Thanks Sam.
Haha, I've got a fitness dvd coming out soon which mainly involves running up and down the road picking up cameras
agreed!
The quality really stands out over a lot of other channels Sam works hard!
@@seenthroughglass you need an electric scooter to take with you and pop it in the boot
@@Mayesyy I love the car but you can’t fit an electric toothbrush in the boot.
There hasn't been enough fresh content on the new F-Type on RUclips. This is the sort of content my entire being was craving. Great vid Sam 🔥
Awesome. Plenty more to come
This is just one of those videos that makes you want to get out and drive! Another banger Sam.
Great to hear
The intro, footage and professionalism is just amazing. And no music with the driving shots so that we can hear that amazing V8 is a nice decision! Enjoyed this very much, loving the recent F-Type content.
Glad you liked it!
Hopefully everyone now realises that pootling around London in cars that can't even get above 10% of their speed is not good content.
“It’s an X-rated, hardcore monster, for the terminally unhinged!”
That’s why I love it!!!
@@seenthroughglass Ever since I saw that video the F Type has been my dream car! I hope to own one someday, if I ever stop buying guitars and basses. 😅
TopGear :)
I live in that area and drive that road regularly. About 20 years ago I was driving home from Edinburgh in my Fiat Coupe 20 Valve Turbo, enjoying a test of speed with a motorbike. I crested the peak of the hill in front, and as we passed the ski centre had to slow down for several vehicles that pulled out from the left. The bike cheekily scooted past and I went to follow, only to have the rearmost of the other vehicles swerve into my path as I tried to overtake. The air turned sprint blue to match the car as I lay on the brakes. I then noticed the passenger of that car, a black Discovery, looking directly at me while talking on a handset, the array of non standard aerials and the cars in front of it. That black Discovery, a black Range Rover, a little green Series 1 Landrover , a black Range Rover and a black Discovery in the lead.
They drove at 35 - 40 for the next 30 miles , not letting anyone overtake, until they turned into the right, where the driver of the Series 1 , a little old lady in a headscarf, has a wee holiday home.
That road looks epic and you got some amazing footage, breakfast looked decent too! Loving the roof down spirit Sam, loving the F-Type and road trip content......
Thanks dude!! Was such a good morning
Mega video Sam, the lack of music.. the improvisation, the landscape, the sound of that beast... Superb job!
Sam: F-TYPE + highest road in the UK = content.
Me: STG Video out now + F-TYPE = watch now!
Legend
I love these kind of videos. Just you, a cool car and an awesome road.
Everyone: Love the sound the car makes, sounds really nice. SAM: The car doesn't sound good any more. Great video, the channel is coming back to its glory days again, loving the content recently :)
Fantastic video Sam. I can tell you were really enjoying yourself and it’s good to see that on RUclips.
Thanks matey! Had the best morning
That's the type of content I subscribed for! Thank you, the level of commitment is pure inspiration!
Absolutely loving the Top Gear tribute drive. Without having re-watched the original piece, the bit starting at 15:15 feels exactly like the TG segment. Fantastic!
Rock on!
Need to a find green with tan interior f type SVR. The perfect Jag for you!
Great vlog Sam! Scotland has some wonderful roads and scenery which fortunately few people have discovered. Chose a great car to do it in too......
Glad you enjoyed it
It was such a surprise seeing the St Andrews cathedral. I went there for Uni and it brought back nice memories of walking down to the Pier right alongside the cathedral. Great video as usual mate!
Awesome! It was a nice surprise for me at that time in the morning ha
Wasn’t that the place where Sebastian Vettel had shot the Aston Martin DBX video at? And where James Bond stood, next to his DB5
Seb for points I pray for tonight
@@NightSkyTakeru It cannot happen. He's not even competitive anymore.
That was somewhere else in Scotland. Further west by Loch Etive
That’s near Glencoe
@@SChapps well, I’m from halfway across the world, and all of Scotland looks the same to a foreign eye
Epic video 👌🏼
First read ‘ Tea @ The Shmee’ for a split second ‘10:10 😄
Secret desire to drive such roads!
Glen shee. Yup I remember stopping there one may when it was cold wet and windy in a heaterless caterham. It was open, the coffee was terrible. But I genuinely didn't want to get back on the road it was so cold! Love Scotland
still loving my rwd f-type r since ordering it new back in 2015. this piece has made me want to get up at 4am and get it out more. I’ve thought about buying a roma to freshen things up but just when I thought I was out, that sound pulls me back in
I’m looking forward to taking the new classic Range Rover to Scotland for this!
Wow - Amazing scenery with an amazing car! Keep up the amazing content!
Thanks a lot!
Truly beautiful scenery! No better way to capture the moment than in a gorgeous Jaguar convertible!
Great video Sam. They all look so well edited and shot now, with the different in-car, on-car, drive-by, and drone parts, I’d be interested to see some funny outtakes of your videos. And the interior color of the jag looks really really sharp too.
Fantastic content Sam, and must say excellent camera work throughout 👍👍
Thank you!!
Being inspired by Top Gear's F-Type video too and to have done this road on a V6 F-Type few summers ago I can only confirm how great this road is. Thanks a lot for this kind of content Sam. Such a special place for drivers and your F-Type fits so well in that special place. Can't wait to come back to Scotland with a proper british car too. Hope to see more content like this one with your F-Type Sam - a french fan.
hey Sam, your videos legit gives me chills because how AMAZING you've out everything together and edited it. Keep it up Brother! :D
Stunning and Sam as always great videography. Keep up the good work.
Many thanks!
Have you ever thought about starting a second channel called "STG POV" where you would post only raw POV footage from your road trips ? That could be a great additional content (not that anything is wrong with a current format, it's bloody lovely! Keep up the good work Sam, cheers!
Nice "mountain" road, It may have been missing the hairpin-corners, but at 15:35 you have a good example of a pinned hare corner.
Amazing video!! I love the v6 convertible f type that’s the one you should eventually buy Sam.
I watched fully all the ads because I knew this video is on another level... And know that this type of content doesn't attract a lot of views... (Shame)
This one reminds me the video with Seb in Tenerife. Well done! To more to come.
You’ve taken it to another level with this one, Sam. Well played, Sir, well played indeed
This must be one of your greatest video ever! Love the morning vibe with no music!
Great video, watching with a lot of interest. As a V6S owner, the new P450 looks the real sweet spot. Give us a laugh though, what's your best, average and worst mpg on the trip so far?
Loved the vibe of this video, it felt like we were right there with you. Appreciate all of the effort and hard work that goes into everything you do 😁
Within the first 30 seconds, a 4am alarm and a coffee machine, I knew this was going to be an amazing video!
This is the road that Henry Catchpole took an Aston N430 over a few years ago for evo. I'm still yet to go but it looks fantastic!
Drove my Calibra to Glenshee on a long road trip many years ago ,it's a beautiful part of the world ,stunning video as als Sam ( oops it was Glencoe 😊)
Love driving that road and that original top gear film, this video was just as good. Hope it gets the views it deserves. 👍👏
I recognise all these places in the video including the fife arms and even the parking spot just before the way up to glenshee, great video 👍
Wow Sam great video, loving seeing an F-Type back on the channel!
One of the best vids I’ve seen this year, truly epic! 👍
Really really kind
Unbelievable how underrated your videos are. Quality is one of the best out there. Thank you for not giving up when views might not be as good as we would like.
No annoyance music ... thank you !! Just can’t get my head around that front end design vs original stunning prototype
The exhaust note on that thing sounds like hell!😍
Brilliant video Sam, a lot of effort went into that (just getting out of bed at 4am is an effort!).
Awesome content, glad you've got a V8 back in the garage
Waking up early to give those such great shots and with that great weather aannd amazing roads! Wonderful work!! 👏🏻
Great road, great car, awesome shots!
As always STG makes the most enjoyable videos on youtube...as a long time subscriber I have to say your videos express the true passion of a car-guy...❤️STG
Next time you go to John o Grote, come down the east side of Scotland, it's a coastal rd and will love it Sam, stay safe out there.
My advice get aftermarket intake u will here supercharger wine
STG makes me miss the UK so much. I hope to be back soon.
Starting the car with the exhaust valves open at 4am in front of the hotel 😂
i swear how tf has it been 5 years since you sold the f type! it legit feels like 2 years ahahha crazy how time flys
I am a Porsche man but have to say in that spec and colour ............ It’s a dam fine looking car !
Tempting ehy ;)
@@seenthroughglass Not tempting enough ! But you have been gifted a stunning toy to play with by Jaguar !
Scotland is one of my favourite places on the entire planet, and when there's no traffic, some amazing driving roads.
I've actually been up that road and didn't realise it was the highest in the UK. Feel like you need to do the North Coast 500 whilst you're there.
Can also recommend Skye for some amazing scenery and roads!
That comment about early morning drives is so true. I drove the whole of the Isle of Mann TT circuit starting at 5.30am and only saw one car in the whole drive and no upper speed limit in places
That would be some great content in the Jag 👍 roof down ,wondering how the hell the bikes can lap so fast.
How did you film that 4am alarm? Did you wake up earlier just to set it up?
Very well put together video Sam, and I loved the bits with no talking, really added to the piece.
BRILLIANT VIDEO!!!!
loved the drown shots and the final minute with the camera on the front of the car with just the engine noise!!!
So glad you enjoyed it
The Cairngorms (and just Scotland in general) is amazing. Haven’t been for 3 years now so I really miss it but the last time I did was with 2 of my best mates and we camped in the middle of winter (nearly freezing in the process) and woke up to the most amazing sunrise I’ve ever seen over Loch Morlich
Early morning drives are the one and that interior colour is awesome!
Home 😍
At 2:30 you are driving at 51mph in a 30mph speed limit. Please provide justification for this
I saw 61 mph (and the national speed limit sign a few seconds earlier).
I truly enjoyed this one. Drive the World vibes. if you'd do more of this style, I'd be so happy.
Felt so good to be 'back on the road'
Is that the same place as in the movie of Skykall , when I saw that I was like"man I would love to live there" it's so magical", so cool that you got to experience it!!
Skyfall
Man how do you even find this Insanly beautiful roads. 😍😍😍
My favourite video you've done this year. The shots, sound and general quality is insane!
The amazing effort going into the videos is not going unnoticed sam! the b roll is amazing!
I'll watch it twice, I'll watch the ads without skipping just to show You my appreciation of this piece.
You had to get up so early so you could take all the time needed to set up the many “fly-by” shots! Lol😎 another great video Sam! Thank you! What a beautiful place!
Ha definitely wouldnt have been able to do 3/4 of the shots in this video if I'd left at 9am
How do you avoid speeding fines ?
Awesome video, the right type of “influencer” I want to get up early and go for a drive.
Nice piece Sam, I've done a couple of vids on that section too, had a lovely summer night for it in my 981 Boxster. Impressed with you filming that on your own it's certainly not easy!
Nice video, whole edit felt minimalistic / I likey
Ohh boy he puts in the effort !! Beautiful video Sam !!
Thanks so much! 😊
Thanks for taking us on this journey, it's a treat. Definitely helping me plan a visit out there when the world opens back up again too!
Wow Sam - great video with some special views. Keep the great work up.
Glad you enjoyed it
I started following you around the time you made that Trip Movie with the Alfa to Monaco. This gave me the same vibes!
The camera angle from the back of the car is next level, never seen that before 🔥
I was wondering how that is done as well. Great viewing
Sam, I've been following your channel for around 6 years now, and this was one of my favourite videos yet! The amount of effort put into the B roll is incredible, great drone shots, the driving shots with no music were just perfection, the way you conveyed the story was superb, you really make us feel like we're in the car with you. What a stunning place and definitely worth the early start!
This is one of my favourite videos and i revisit it often... Im Very much considering doing the same trip in my ND2 MX5 RF. Not quite the same soundtrack... But i bet its great fun!
A gr8 combination of enthusiastic motoring journalism, with a well thought out driving itinerary and award quality video footage, all single handedly achieved.. sincerest thanks & compliments Sam👏🏼🏁
Appreciate that!
@@seenthroughglass how do you get the following drone footage while you’re driving? Also I really liked the view shot from the back of the car facing forward near the beginning of the video. 👍🏻
@@seenthroughglass now made even purposeful, receiving a like & response from the intended recipient.. Sam u discern urself from the rest of those who just churn out content incessantly with their only intention of achieving maximum views.. ur uploads leaves a lasting impact & influence 2 ur viewers.. keep up with ur discerning motoring journalist approach.. it’s appreciated & hopefully fulfilling 4 u 2 know how it’s received by us all,..😇🚙
Great editing....How do you get the air shots ? I'm purchasing my F-type cabriolet P380 AWD 2018 model end of Jan. Cant wait. Put a holding deposit down. Off to test drive next week. Soooooooooo excited.
Beautiful! I actually plan on getting F-Type P450 R-Dynamic next year in that exact color..British racing green with brown leather seats. Build that I made is around $98K..I am just worried that I might like F-Type R better because of more powerful engine. However, R is around 20K more expensive than R-Dynamic..I guess that is what I will stick with..444bhp is still plenty of power and it might be just good enough . What do you all think ?
Is it just me or the TWIN CLUTCH shift sound a bit ......FLATULENT 🚗💨 ......🚗💨........ 🚗💨
Hello Sam, my name is Ben I’ve been following your channel for around Six years or so, absolutely love all the stuff that you have put out over the years.
If I can be a bit bold (no pun intended), Have you ever tried the buttertub pass In North Yorkshire if not, it is a highly recommended road that I have tried myself. It is very recommended to try if you are in this neck of the woods
Wow man, the content you bring CONTINUES to get better and better. Thank you so much for ALL your work!!!!
End shots were great...especially with the Jaguar Philharmonic playing in the background.
Hey Sam top vid m8 love the scenery & the no music soundtrack 👍🏻
But spring/summer?? The UK weather looks like the middle of winter here🤣🤣
Our spring/summer is 35C to 40C🥵 & hotter on the Nullarbor
Thanks, Sam. Pleasant drive over the top of Scotland. Beautiful cinematography. Top marks.
Great great content, This is one of my favorite auto channels. Maybe you can review the Aston Martin Vulcan or Dbx 707
Fairmont st Andrews... Good choice. Next time pop in and visit Falkland (ps editing faux Pas.. guardbridge is after St Andrews not before :-)
