5 Years After I SOLD Mine... What's CHANGED On The F-TYPE R?

- Nearly 5 years after I sold my Jaguar F-Type R, I try to figure out what has changed for this latest version.
The new F-TYPE R continues to set the benchmark for truly involving, driver-focused sports cars. Just as its design has evolved, so too has the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 at its heart. It now generates 575PS and 700Nm of torque; increases of 25PS and 20Nm compared to the previous model.
Taking all of the learning accrued from the development of the limited-edition 200mph Jaguar XE SV Project 8, the Quickshift transmissions in the new F-TYPE R and the 450PS V8 models have been meticulously recalibrated for a more engaging driving experience. The new F-TYPE R specifically offers even faster, crisper gear changes when the driver commands shifts manually via the steering wheel-mounted paddles or the SportShift gear selector. Both upshifts and downshifts are more immediate and give an even more connected and responsive feel.
Combined with the torque on-demand all-wheel drive system with Jaguar’s Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) control technology, this delivers truly extraordinary performance and immediate throttle response in all gears and in all conditions. Acceleration from 0-60mph takes just 3.5 seconds, while the maximum speed is electronically-limited to 186mph.
The bespoke calibration to IDD and to the rear electronic active differential (EAD) ensure optimum torque distribution between the front and rear axles and across the rear axle. Combined with a new calibration for the Dynamic Stability Control system, this enhances traction and dynamics - on all surfaces and in all weathers - while maintaining the F-TYPE R’s rear-wheel drive feel and handling balance.
Aluminium double wishbone front and rear suspension and a recalibrated state-of-the-art electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) system offering an even more connected feel are fundamental to the car’s immediate and intuitive responses to every driver input.
Matched to new springs and anti-roll bars, the chassis is further enhanced by the continuously-variable dampers at the core of Jaguar’s Adaptive Dynamics system. The valves inside each damper and the control algorithms have been recalibrated to improve both low-speed comfort and high-speed control.
The unique tune for the Torque Vectoring by Braking system enables even more precise control of the braking applied to the inner wheels to further mitigate understeer - even at high corner entry speeds.
The rear knuckles are now aluminium die castings, which, together with new, larger wheel bearings and revised upper ball joints increase camber and toe stiffness by 37 per cent and 41 per cent respectively. This results in more precise control of the tyre contact patch, which translates to an even more connected steering feel.
Fitted as standard with large 380mm and 376mm front and rear brake discs, the F-TYPE R can be specified with Jaguar’s Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) braking system. Featuring even larger 398mm and 380mm discs and six- and four-piston monobloc calipers with a distinctive yellow finish, this system delivers exceptional braking performance with outstanding fade resistance. The brake prefill system ensures consistent pedal feel, stop after stop.
The specially-developed 265/35/ZR20 and 305/30/ZR20 Pirelli P Zero tyres are 10mm wider than before and provide exceptional levels of grip. These are paired to new 10-spoke, 20-inch wheels in Gloss Black with contrast Diamond-Turned finish and are exclusive to the new F-TYPE R.

Thanks for watching SeenThroughGlass. If you liked this video you may also like videos by Shmee150, Salomondrin, Supercars Of London, Car Throttle, MrJWW and Petrolicious.
I miss how incredibly capable mine was. It was such a massively memorable time of my life having that. I think the same for yours so I can see how exciting this must be.
They are cars full of character that seem to make every drive special
@@seenthroughglass To be honest. I think that way about most of the cars you purchase. You clearly buy with your heart, not ‘just because’!
It’s endearing to watch, I said this to Tony at the weekend actually.
That's why I've hung on to mine Rob just nothing else around that ticks all the boxes for the price ;)
@@kevind1447 Yes, I tend to agree. It’s just I have shined ball syndrome!
Good move, Jaguar UK. Lending this car to one of Britain's finest RUclips influencers. Production quality is second to none, as always. Only 10 minutes in, time to crack on. Excellent lunch break entertainment! Best of luck, Sam!
Thanks so much mate!
They are hoping Sam will buy it!
Just stick 10K miles on it and barter them down!
I’m watching on my break to from Texas ! Where’s the jag owners from Texas !! Stand up y’all
Can’t believe that was 5 years ago 🤯 I still remember watching the road trip videos with Red and orange crew hahaha
It is insane how it has been 5 years!
Scary how time flies
@@seenthroughglass I remember watching back when I was doing GCSEs and dreaming of my own f type and mclaren ... I’m now nearly graduated from uni ... sadly an f type or mclaren is still very much a dream
Yes F type content. Missing these. Quite nostalgic atm🥺
Agreed! Semi emotional over here
Would love a video explaining how the logistics of this arrangement works with Jag. E.g. who pays for fuel, insurance, registration? Do you have targets to hit in the way of views and hits?
Greetings from the States, and great video! I used to own a 2015 F-Type R, and it was the most fun car I'd ever owned. Loved the sound and fury, and since mine was rear-wheel drive, I could definitely get sideways with all that power, even with the nanny systems turned on. Tons of fun.
I'd owned a couple 911s before it (traded a 2006 911 in on it in fact), and I remember somebody posting on a forum once comparing the two, and paraphrasing, it went something like this: "The 911 is like a scalpel, very precise. The F-Type is like a sledgehammer. And sometimes you just want to break s**t with a sledgehammer." That summed up my feelings about the F-Type perfectly. And that styling - one of the most beautiful cars ever made I think. Although, I admit I still like the older headlight style better. To me, the newer headlight style looks a little too generic. But styling is very subjective, so that's just me.
Kind of disappointed they did away with a lot of the crackles and pops from the exhaust, but that's to be expected with all the environmental regulations going up around the world. Was fun while it lasted. But so glad to hear with things being taken away, they've made so many improvements in other areas. I'd definitely get another F-Type down the road.
Enjoy your F-Type and keep posting - great car and video!
was feeling crap before this vid, now I feel incredible thanks sam
Amazing to hear! Stay strong
Okay that transition was incredible 2:33
Cannot believe that was 5 years ago! Ah, how much I loved those times!! And that green in the sun, so beautiful.
I like to think that Sam has numerous cameras and that he just leaves them there when he leaves
There is something about the F-Type that just makes STG’s videos that much better 👌
Genuine passion and enthusiasm?
The most artistic uk car vlogger
I pulled the trigger on a low-mile 2016 AWD R Coupe a couple months ago. You just point it and it goes ... really fast and really loud! Going through tunnels or under overpasses is comical when you drop down a couple gears and get on it. It's like hell let loose, no joke. The infotainment is definitely a bit out of date now, but I find myself entertained just driving it. It's a not-quite-rich man's supercar. In America, it's just rare and quasi-exotic enough to turn heads. If the looks don't, that exhaust note will. I freaking love it!
Been here from 1,500 subs, the Audi TT days. Now your boi drives a GT3 RS love this channel
Your coffee blend is going down well with friends and family, just finished my second bag and will be reordering some more!
This is amazing Sam, great to see a F-TYPE back on the channel!
So happy to be back behind the wheel of one
Has it been that long? wow... I still remembered the reveal video of your red f-type.
Same! Thanks for sticking around so long
You can fix that exhaust valve issue by removing a fuse I believe, like the older XK models. Should help get back some of the sound in the low to mid part of the rev range.
What's scaring me is that I remember you GETTING it. Holy crap that was a fast five years!
You are a different Man with a Jag on the channel! Lovely car...
I’ve been watching your channel since I was 13, 20 years old now!! Fantastic content Sam
WOAH!!! You’ve just aged ME. Haha. Thanks for the support
16 to 23 here as well. Crazy how time flies. Those Monaco road trips were the best.
So happy to see an f type back on the channel
For me, you always did and still do the best videos from all the car youtubers. Cuts, music, scenery - just amazing, so relaxing to watch and always looks so professional. Hope your channel keeps growing :)
bench at 4.16 is where i used to hang out as a kid! been watching for 5/6 yrs, Mr JWW likes it around here too! lets do a snow vid this winter coming with you and Tony.
So much effort with making content, much appreciated...
Some of the UK RUclipsrs could do with taking some notes from how you're doing things.
How is it possible your suscriber amount doesn’t increase massively ??????? Your uploads are By far the most anticipated one on YT for me, keep up this excellent work !
Long-time watcher, first-time poster. You're my favourite channel, Sam. Not just cars, but on RUclips. Throttle House comes a close second only because they're Canadian with a twist of English (James).
The things that bug you about the car remind me of what I might miss from my [Stage 2] 2016 Golf R when/if I decide to buy a 2021 MX-5 RF. Then Top Gear comes to mind and, really, "how bad could it be?"
Lovely Jubbly, amazing camera and editing skills you have, Jaguar just tops it off.
Fantastic seeing your enjoyment in the new F Type Sam. Looks and sounds great. Very compelling 👌
Go and try one! They’re mega
@@seenthroughglass I’m planning on doing exactly that 👌
When the headlight bulbs of the first international mimicked the eyes 👀 of a Jaguar 🐆 stalking for a takedown was stunning 🤩
The led headlights on the previous model kind of lost that emphasis 😞
I remember driving the Peak District quite a few years, I'm definitely overdue another trip there!
I live in the Peak, you want to drive here at the weekend you've got to be up early, 7am start is not a bad shout.
As usual your production value is stunning. Congrats.
7:42 Great example as to why I love the British lol. But yeah, always a great channel. Expressing an equally as great topless (the way I prefer them 😉) sports car. I truly miss the true savagery that was the F-Type SVR, which to this day remains in my top 3 cars of all time. It’s engine note and it’s noises were as close to ear-orgasms as one could get. This cars styling to me looks slightly too generic. Like it’s trying to copy a Maserati. It’s still beautiful just, not quiet as “unique” as it’s predecessor.
Anyway, great content my dude. Keep it up! Cheers from across the pond!
I think we've all got a car that's left a mark on us. For you Sam, it's obviously the F-Type and no matter how many Porsches and Ferraris you get, only an F-Type will fill that hole. Great car and video as always!
Love how you melded the pops and bangs of the car with the best of the song
Looking forward to hearing your long term thoughts on this and ultimately which one you end up buying! Having had my ‘old’ rwd R for 4 and half years now, I still struggle to think of bang for buck alternatives that can put as much of a smile on my face.
Hi Sam, great work! I am considering buying an f type coupe since I’d like some more sportiness (I am now having a db11 v12). Which one would you prefer: the old R RWD, the old R AWD, the current P450, P575 or perhaps the old V6S? All in coupe form. And by the way I know it’s very different from the DB11 and other cars I owned (a California, a Rapide, a FF, a 5.0 Mustang, a Giulia QV, an XKR 4.2, a Mas Granturismo S, among the others), but how would you compare them in terms of driving sensations? It’s a “worst” car being less expensive or forget about that?
Thank you very much!!!
Sold my 2014 V8 S a few months back. I truly miss it but I live somewhere that it's just no longer practical (dirt roads).
I do like them but over here in Oz they’re flipping expensive (as all sports cars are) which makes it harder to justify the stuff that’s missing. But I’m now at the stage where it’s a second car that can be fun only so I might just have to drive one!
Do it!! Trust me, once you get behind the wheel, none of the other stuff matters
Peak & Lake district in an F-type R... Not jealous whatsoever! 😩
We had a track day with Jaguar in the 450 & 575. The loss of noise came as a shock. Our V6S had more entertainment in the exhaust department on the way back home. Perhaps and end of range R rather than a new model next time around?
Thank you, 'Scenic Through Glass', impressive sights in this classy Jaguar, deffo go for the Convertible for your example later . And all the RUclips mods offcourse, yes 👍
Such an underrated car... my mate has the old SVR, and it's not like anything I've experienced before. The sound is just amazing and the feel....just wow!
I feel like I'm living my life vicariously through Sam, I would have the same reactions to him whilst driving the f type, it's my dream car and I will have it one day but had to be the old shape, louder and more aesthetic.
Ok, you've mastered the art of mounting/masking the external 360 camera... I simply can't see the car mount! Trying to figure it out for my videos 🤔
Coincidentally as you’ve headed north in the Jaggg, I’ve been heading south in my mk9 Fiesta ST on a road trip through the Scottish boarders, Lake District, Forest of Borland ,Northern Wales and Shropshire with just a little more of Wales and the Cotswolds to finish. Hope the rest of your trip is as great as mine 😉
Great to see a car stir your soul! You appear to be so much more excited by the Jag than, say, your own 996.
Hello 'Sam', you need to drive 'Hard Knott Pass', a road that takes you from the lakes to the coast, a road you don't forget !!!!
Regards, RichardA.
6:24 That’s some great cinematography Sam! Well done! Also congratz on the Jaaaaaag, hope you get one yourself in the distant future.
A beautiful car and nice to see such a positive review. As a lifelong fan of the 911, I would chose the F-Type convertible over the 911 convertible. I fail to see why any car enthusiast would ever require any form of cruise control. Eyes, brakes and an accelerator are quite enough.
Bro...I just got back home from the seaside...I drive an mx5 which has a cruise control, but it ain't adaptive...so after 4 hrs of highway my legg hurts.... its a GT car, ofc it should have an adaptive cruise, especially for that kind of money :Xx also adds to the resale value and stuff....I guess the guy can't talk too much shit so they keep giving him cars, but everybody knows the old F-type is a steal right now...the new one adds nothing to compensate the money you'd have to give :# You can't argue with that one.
I got to know this channel with that video of you going for a pizza to Italy in your red F-Type. At first I was like... who the heck is this guy?! but I quickly fell in love with your channel, your videos and your ideas. Do enjoy it and hope you do some more amazing things with it!
I put 305 Michelin pilot sport 4s tires on my 2015 RWD R. No traction worries. But I don’t often floor it lol
Whyyyyyyy! I love my 17’ V6 convertible but now the idea of a V8 upgrade (with Apple car play) is strong on my mind. That spec too 😍
Came on to say the spec gets better by the minute!!! And man do I miss the Peak District, living in Australia, the Peak is one thing luring me home ❤️
Great video thanks Sam 😎
I think I spotted you at a service station on the M1, parked up in the corner. It’s a nice looking car!
Surprised Jaguar engineers overlooked the screen glare given it is a convertible. All they needed to do was put anti-glare films on the TFT display, really cheap and effective solution.
Smart move by Jag lending you one... I foresee a ton of epic content coming our way! This car makes for great videos.
"Hello one and all"ahhhhh miss the old ftype days thanks for bringing it back to your chanel
Beautiful car made even better by that engine. A great part of the world too!
Ride comfort? Interior noise (roof up)? Fuel consumption?
Beautiful video - superb scenery and great production quality. Exhaust doesn't sound too bad, particularly at the beginning!
Enjoy your road trip!!!
That sound of the v8 is epic and will be missed in not too distant future - how is the front growing on you ? This version of the previous ?
It is growing on me! Certain angles but every day I like it more
Great camera work on such a stylish car
stunning car, good driving feeling, i have the same convertible BMG, MY 19, before facelift. i totally agree with you concerning the extra kit that jag did not have as ACC, extra round view, and at least not the best audiosystem - but The sound beats all
Subscribed from the day I saw your video bumping into RoyalJordanian. Hooked on ever since, keep up the great work. Great to see the F type back.
Once again, great contents. Pictures, musics,... everything makes the video very nice to watch. Even though don't care about new FType. Good work !
Best car RUclips channel, his content is always different, always interesting, better by miles than than the other car you tubers, keep up the good work Sam !!!
Great editing, lovely aerial shots and music. Well done!
Love the camera shots, the country side looks so nice
So good to see the f type back on the channel sam and that supercharged v8 sound is incredible!
Nice to see you enjoying my local roads, you do have to pick your days and times to hit them when they’re quiet though in the car not so much of an issue when I’m on the motorbike.
Plus you’re stopping in the hotel I got married in back in 2018, it’s a small world 😂
If I could like this twice I would! Such high level content, check out the roads in Torridon if you get the chance when you’re up north!
Great video Sam, look forward to follow on thoughts from you. Love that you have kept to your style and enthusiasm over those 5 years. Thanks
Hmm ... everything you describe you got in the 2018 V8 R 5.0 AWD including ZF and infotainment with Apple Carplay. Plus the original (better) looks. And the insane sound ALL THE TIME. So please excuse me if I don‘t see the improvement here. Why not get a low mileage, well equipped 2018 instead?
(Which is exactly what I did a month ago.)
5 years since you SOLD it?! Christ, I remember watching you back when you had the Alfa. Didn't realise it was 7 or so years.... is there a way to find out how long I've been a subscriber for?
Wow time flies it's been 5 years damn but soo happy to see you back in this😍😍
Superb! If a TVR and a BMW Z4 had a baby this would be it
I sold my F-Type V8R convertible 4 years ago. Still miss it everyday…
It is such a good quality of your videos, Sam - drone shots, soundtrack and all! This is what your fellow youtubers mostly lack, except JWW. I can excuse Shmee, cause he uploads nearly daily...
Hi! Have you ever thought about driving a roadcar with roof but without an A-pillar blocking your view in corners?
I still haven't seen a video discussing this topic and many cars today although very rigid, structurally, have really thick A-Pillars that block your view to the point of posing a risk to the driver or a person.
I think it would be really cool to discuss the topic, taking examples like the Chevrolet Corvair Tetsudo Concept, the Renault Trezor Concept.
I would love to see your take on that topic.
👍✌️
Please, PLEASE, try a V6 F-Type S before you decide what to buy. A comparison video would be epic
Epic video, it's like you have a full crew with you.... brilliant and mind blowing sequences too. Video edit fabulous 😉 👏👏👏👏👏🐶 well done
Great video Sam. Car looks and sounds incredible. I suppose the big question has to be does it look as good as the original F Type and I have to say my vote says no. It doesn't sound as good, although its still got something of its own, but surely the older car has to be a better option. I know that newer models do have a way of just somehow feeling like they tick more boxes so Im intrigued about what your review will be. Lake district was looking gorgeous! More Jaguar videos soon please.
Nice drone shots Sam.
And those camera angles. Watch out Guy Ritchie....😁
I reckon the noise is still too much less to match the experience for me...cars lovely but the old one was meaner.. and just more raw!! That's the experience I'm after!
Wait, the peak district is not called that cus of all the.....peaks? Every day is a school day. Love the car 👍
Blew my mind that fact
Please stick to this format and style Sam! I know in the podcast you sometimes question it because of views etc but it genuinely keeps you above the other youtubers for me. Look forward to and watch yours with interest as there’s never any filler for the sake of making a video. Coffee is great btw
Congratulations on your latest purchase.
The BRG looks gorgeous with the sun shining on it
Lol, wait what: no annoying radar cruise control, possibly no lane assist that should be called driver irritation system AND no silly 360 camera...that s a virtue and great, this seems to be a proper Jag!
great camera work / product values
UNPLUG the vacuum lines in the muffler to get the sound back!! It disables the valves and brings back the pops and bangs below 3000RPM. No drone, just make sure to stuff the lines with something like a golf tee or little screw. It LITERALLY takes 30 seconds. I did this on my 2020 R
The problem with car 'extras' is that once you have had a car with a particular extra, it is very disappointing to consider, or actually live with, a next car that doesn't have that particular extra which you had grown accustomed to.
Well, the color changed, didn't it? 🤔😂
Jokes aside, absolutely ready for this F-Type trip!
Shame we missed you in Glossop mate! Should’ve hit up Snake Pass! Great driving road
7:33 What a view!
How do you get those driving drone shots when you’re on your own?
@sam What were you comparing it to competition wise? AMG GT? 911 base?
