what a great little motor , bit of fence wire, pvc tape , pliers screwdriver, that's all you needed for side of the road repairs to get you home, would go forever , simple easy and cheap to hot up, loved the sound of mine ,391 wade cam, triple webers, 6800 snap gear changes , how aussies that
Nice work...! Superbly put together, with terrific all round everyday driveability the end result. Plenty of power, awesome sound. Congratulations on a job well done. Thanks for the upload 😁👍
Old mate & yours truly were racing a 3spd bomber at Archerfield last century. Radiator was bolted to the back seat with aluminium pipes circulating water through the 202, around an inch from my left arm & leg. We had proper rated safety overalls & gear on, though the thought of a passenger side hit & ruptured water pipe pushing 100-120+ deg spraying up under the helmet?, let alone everywhere else was a little unnerving. One night the uni joints/bolts sheared off, possibly from the car being twisted via an earlier collision in the late arvo to the back end, drive shaft dropped out as we rounded a left hand bend on a muddy track. We were stuck sideways, coming first at the time! & as usual. The race was full on! So I'm watching 6+ cars flying towards the passenger side door, which was fortunately welded shut, knowing that they really arn't going to slow down by much on that muddy track as they were doing around 100kph? & only 30mtrs away. Then everything went in slow motion thump, crash, thump the car got hammered bigtime! 'Just grabbed the harness & waited for the impacts to stop' 😅 The 202 was still running fine though😀 Thanks for putting this video up it brings back a lot of fond memories👍
@@STREETMACHINETV - I agree. Hopped up an American Motors 232 in California back in the seventies with Clifford Research parts. A single, vacuum secondary Holley 4 bbl. worked great right out of the box.

I had an original 186s Prem 3 speed crash box same slip diff as stock swaped the 2 barrel stromberg for a 350 holly with a yella slc head was out running 253's
Hi, Do you have the list number for the Holley carb, is it 390 double pumper, last picture at the end showed two accelerator squirters, let me k ow please
Why didn't you just use a 202 cubic inch Holden six for the build in the first place ? They're basically a stroked 186 cubic inch engine anyway plus it would save yourself a lot of work by not having to grind down the main bearing journals to fit inside the 179 cubic inch engine block !
I just saw the secondary metering plate and the dual fuel inlet so it’s a mechanical secondary but I would still like to know what size main jets and pv is used
Do you make an overhead cam conversion unit for this engine? I've hear rumours that there are Holdens running the VK fuel injection system with bespoke handmade chain-driven ohc.
@@psiwog A workmate of mine back in the 1980's had a HR Holden with a stroked 186ci taken out to a 235ci, it had a Ford 221ci crankshaft in it from the Falcon 221ci 3.6ltr 6cyl engine, later he put the Chrysler 265ci 4.3ltr in the HR after some firewall surgery to fit it in because the 265ci was longer than the 186.
I've ran 350 Holleys on 202s; if you're going to stick with a 2-barrel you're MUCH better off running a Weber or better yet, a properly jetted Varajet with all the anti-pollution crap ripped off.
just seeing this I wouldn't have built a holden 6 that bad in the 70's 80's all that money spent and then fit a shity exhaust system in extractors when holden split headers would have allowed it to rev to it's full potential sht even putting those things on a 186s droped the revs by about 10 grand through the gears
not sure what numbers you are quoting there. but as far as 1970s australian 6's go the hemi 265 has the most potential for power, touring car masters shows that with cameron tilley's 265 hemi making 500hp. the 202 toranas are good but maxed out at about 350hp. hp per cube isn't that far different though. it's just a bigger engine.
Fantastic. A motor everyone can appreciate and not a computer in sight. That's really impressive HP!
No water pump or alternator connected? Just noticed. Still love this result though.

I love th' old red 6...I'd like to have heard it idle....brings back good memories...but it needs a set of triples..It's the Aussie way.
Triples are cool, but more work.
As you say, "If maintained" versus set and forget with a Holley 4bbl.
STREETMACHINETV let's be honest tho, triples sound way tougher than the Holley

@@STREETMACHINETV SUs and Strombergs definitely not set and forget, but Webers are.
Those motors in a Datsun 1000 are a good combination.
Nice sounding holden six.
7000 rpm!!! Yeowww haha the nostalgia fires me right up
I've heard from somewhere that the 202 cubic inch Holden six is basically a stroked 179 cubic inch engine ?
nah 1/2 in extra on a 186
I heard they made OHC setup for the greys back in the day! Can't beat the HP of the Red but the grey has the heritage! (as does the red...but ya know)
They made a twin overheadcam setup for grey motors back in the day
Red power, yes! Love that sound
... that's very roughly 100hp more than my back yard effort 202 made, with a 350 two barrel.... That's a good effort, guys.
nice little hot rodded 6. Major enhancements work wonders.
That’s very interesting thanks

Scary!!!
I have seen very bad things happen here !!!
This must be a strong build!!!
These guys Speach reminds of Mad Max 3? Where Max rescues the big rig,the mechanic explains it’s needed repairs.

Seems that red motors at bathurst xu1 did 7k but the basics arent designed for that they break how many hours is it good 4
Wow, thats cool.
What can you do with my 225 slant in my VC?
What's the cam duration? Love the side plates.
How much did they spend on it?

Can I buy something like this off the shelf?
Please correct me if I'm wrong , this 179 block been stroked to a 186 ??
What’s the purpose of the large spacer? What does it achieve. Just curious
Keeps the butterflies from sitting in the manifold.
Awesome!
Do you have any idea if that carburettor is a mechanical or vacuum secondary also what size main jets and power valve is used? Thanks

There is a guy who makes a DOHC head, but it's stupidly expensive.
STREETMACHINETV g
thats great! more power than an ecotec and probably more reliable
Is it worth the cost of machine work to put the 202 crank in the 186?
Anthony Amalfitano waste of time considering you can stoke the 186 out to 230-245+ ci
@@johnnyasus86 how?

Can you make it run on E10?

Yes you can
Hey dude does the V6 flex plate fit a 202 red motor
Always gotta be one aye
Is anyone able to tell me what sort of $ figure we are looking at to build this motor
Best to ring Powerhouse engines direct
needs a ww stronberg
253 Stromberg would be easier
Would have much rather seen a 350 or 500 two a barrel on there. Did the 4 barrel manifold thing, fuel distribution is not great.

Hemi 265 make more power than Holden 202 it make 271kw while Holden can do 225kw
Only this engine. Can extract even more horsepower with a different cam, different carb, 12 port heads, upgrades to the ignition
It's better to remain silent and be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt.
wow just wow.....oxygen theif ....you need to google and compare what kind of engines you are comparing.....dumb arse

Seriously??? A 265 has more capacity (over 30%) than a 202 - more capacity equals more power.
263 hp waste of money stock 350 will make that
In an early Holden that power would be great
its about making the best with what you got . theres always someone bigger
100kg lighter though
