I respect him a lot as a musician. But a collaboration with Mariah now is A No No for me. They don't have to collaborate again. Never. Not that they didn't make good songs· quite the opposite, and I still believe if they compromised, they could still create great and fresh music. But, from what we do know and can speculate: After Mariah left Sony and Tommy, Walter stopped collaborating with her since he was contractually obligated to Sony at the time. We can speculate that Mariah felt betrayed because Walter "took sides" with Tommy. Mariah has implied/hinted that Walter revealed her secrets to Tommy (both professional and personal). I think Mariah just associates him with someone who caused her a lot of pain and was implicitly involved in that pain, even if he doesn't seem to notice.

I believe she was referring to songs that she had fully written herself, but she was forced to let other people’s names in the songwriting credits just cause. They did legendary music together but given the history, I don’t know if we lambs would support them collaborating again, evidently Mariah was treated unfairly a lot of the times. Sad..

The problem is Mariah cannot read or write music notes out..... I have the same problem.... So Mariah would write a song..... And she would sing different melodies in her mind.... And then she would use her voice to sound out the melody.... So she would hire people to listen to her melodies and write out the notes for her.... And producers would become greedy after the song became a hit.... And they would want credit for helping to write the song.... But all they would do is write out the melody that Mariah would give them... A lot of artists can't read or write music.... But they can write songs.... So they would hire a music technician who knows how to write music.... the industry never wants to give Mariah credit.... I've listened a few other songs he worked on after he and Mariah parted and they lyrics on those songs don't seem like Mariah's style... but her style of writing stayed after they parted. I would love for them to get back together though. Walter worked with Mariah well after 1996..He contributed to her Butterfly Album, songs from the Glitter soundtrack etc...He contributed to "My Heart Will Go On" Celine Dion and won a grammy in '99 for the record (That song was huge when it came out with the Titanic movie). He's contributed to records for Destiny's Child, Boyz II Men, Ricky Martin and many others AFTER his working relationship with Mariah ended. I'm pretty sure that the core of Mariah's ballad catalogue is Walter. Piano player is very versatile and knows all extensions of melody and harmony possible in certain situation. His songs with Celine are on the same level. I mean the fact that Mariah's catalogue is more than 50% her intelectual property is not likely, she doesn't play piano. Her songs were great during Columbia (Walter) and to let's say to TEOM, when she was working with black music producers (Jay-Z, a lot of JD etc.). For her most recent work - it's simply not that good, all songs are fillers, boring, not complicated. Lyrics are still on point tho, that was her thing from the start (look how she speaks, her dictionary is huge). You just can't forget about the fact that she was working with the best of the best people and was biggest investment of Sony Music (also CEOs wife). If I was her, I would try to acknowledge fans about Walter's work - she dodged him so much in her interviews and stuff from the very begging, I would feel so ashamed of myself if I did that. I'm massive lamb and these are my opinions based on what I hear and what I've read. Mariah IS a genius, but she is NOT the only person behind her name. Aside the lyrics, the music itself is less than half her stuff.

This guy is a musical genius. He knows his trade and has duperbly good taste. Mariah Carey never even closely made anything as good as what she did with him. It's a cultural lost that they didn't work together some 5 more years at least.

Walter worked with Mariah well after 1996..He contributed to her Butterfly Album, songs from the Glitter soundtrack etc...He contributed to "My Heart Will Go On" Celine Dion and won a grammy in '99 for the record (That song was huge when it came out with the Titanic movie). He's contributed to records for Destiny's Child, Boyz II Men, Ricky Martin and many others AFTER his working relationship with Mariah ended. I don't know what karma you're talking about ..but this guy's music catalog is LONG..i'm sure he aint broke.

I'm pretty sure that the core of Mariah's ballad catalogue is Walter. Piano player is very versatile and knows all extensions of melody and harmony possible in certain situation. His songs with Celine are on the same level. I mean the fact that Mariah's catalogue is more than 50% her intelectual property is not likely, she doesn't play piano. Her songs were great during Columbia (Walter) and to let's say to TEOM, when she was working with black music producers (Jay-Z, a lot of JD etc.). For her most recent work - it's simply not that good, all songs are fillers, boring, not complicated. Lyrics are still on point tho, that was her thing from the start (look how she speaks, her dictionary is huge). You just can't forget about the fact that she was working with the best of the best people and was biggest investment of Sony Music (also CEOs wife). If I was her, I would try to acknowledge fans about Walter's work - she dodged him so much in her interviews and stuff from the very begging, I would feel so ashamed of myself if I did that. I'm massive lamb and these are my opinions based on what I hear and what I've read. Mariah IS a genius, but she is NOT the only person behind her name. Aside the lyrics, the music itself is less than half her stuff.

Why doesn't he have more #1's to his name. I'd believe you if he were like Babyface or Diane Warren. Mariah and him worked well together, but honestly, none of those songs would have existed without Mariah's brain. All she needed was a instrumentalist - who could take what she was hearing in her head and bring it to life w/ sound ala music. Mariah was lyrically and melodically writing a lot songs alone. If she was a trained instrumentalist, she wouldn't have even needed a writing partner. Same goes for Ben Margulies, he co-composed all the ballads on her debut - yet has never seen success again. That tells me Mariah was the backbone to them songs.
Why haven't those men created classics outside of Mariah? But Mariah went on to create classics w/ damn near every person she worked with. Only Jermaine Dupree has a slew of classics outside of MC.
The album Rainbow 🌈 is the proof that they should never have stopped working together. Since then, there have been something missing.

It's a pity that today's M. Carey wouldn't probably let herself be guided by Affanasief as she did when she was younger. She sadly continued her career showing a more hip-hopish taste in music when she "emancipated" herself. I doubt that she would accept today that the one who knows how are things done is Affanasief.

In my opinion, only Mariah songs who really engaged with Walter Affanasief music. Mariah was really involved to collaborate arranging the music with Walter or another arrangers. Other songs are average except My Heart Will Go On of Celine Dion, All The Woman That I Love of Luther Vandross and Kenny G.. And I am sure. Walter received more money until now from Mariah songs.. Both of you must be back together.. Forget about last story with Tommy Mottola..
