The pricing is what killed it for me. I had a Wrangler Rubicon 4xe (that was stolen out of my driveway this December) so I was motivated to give the Grand Cherokee a go. I found it to be too large, had far too many baubles I would never use, and felt underpowered unfortunately, despite the nice electric assist. The range wasn't as good either in pure electric. I ended up going with a Volvo XC60 T8 Recharge. Sure, I lose a lot of off-road capability, but even in my Wrangler, I only did that 4 or 5 times over the last five years. Thanks for continuing to create great, relevant reviews!
You guys had me wanting to test drive one. You made quite a strong argument for why it would be worthy of considering (perhaps even recommending). That was until you mentioned, at the end, … it’s $78,000 - $94,000 price tag!!! Really?!?! Barely 4 years ago (2018) the petrol powered Grand Cherokee started at $43,000 Canadian. People were critically humiliated for spending nearly $71,000 for their monstrous powered SRT8s. I think that Jeep is punching far above it’s weight class with these 4xe’s. But that’s just my inexperienced opinion (zero personal seat time). Great looking though. Thanks for another excellent and fair video review.

Santa fe phev pricing blows this thing out of the water. 'Luxury' trim Santa fe models are listed at $48k CAD on auto trader right now vs 4xe at $83K CAD. THAT'S NUTS! Paying the jeep premium for the rarely/never used off road capability makes no sense. Of course the jeep may have better resale, but not enough to make up a $35k price difference. You could get a Rav 4 hybrid with the cash saved.
I picked up my Audi Q5 55 e less than three weeks ago. In that short time I put on over 600 miles and still have over 1/2 tank of fuel left. I previously was driving a Mach-E and have no regrets on switching to a PHEV.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe summit is a beautiful car, my father and I went to see the new car ready to be sold off the lot, it was a 2022 model. short term, we took it for a test drive, the acceleration on electric was quicker than gas, the safety systems were awesome. @@andreaspencer9813 Definitely agree! We currently have a Tucson PHEV, and typically don't come close to draining the electric mode during daily commutes or running errands. It's been awesome, and when you do need the engine, we're way ahead on our yearly gas mpg, cutting our fuel costs dramatically. PHEV isn't intended to get the electric range of a single EV charge. But you could still enjoy electric mode benefits 90% of the time, without the EV limitations. Don't get me wrong, really like some of the EV's out there. Since I'm usually driving a Rubicon, I'm thinking the Wrangler 4xe would be good since it gets pretty near V8 power, with better daily driving mileage than other Jeep powertrains. But that Grand Cherokee does look comfy! I just wouldn't take the GC on anything serious off road.
@@trevinated My Mom has the Tucson PHEV as well and usually has pretty short daily drives, she plugs it in every night with a Level 1 charger and she rarely buys gas. Her words...."Best purchase ever!"
I have a '14 GC that I purchased new and is babied. Glad you do not think air suspension is an issue. Mine has had to be replaced twice (all four corners) over 100k miles. That's $7500 each time plus the compressor has been replaced once. I would buy a new Overland if it could be had without the air suspension.
This is a swiss army knife vehicle. It's right-sized for my wife and I, who are empty nesters. I can take it to work sites, off road, on vacation road trips, and it cleans up nice. With those tax incentives and discounts, this may be the answer to what I may get to replace a 2001 Yukon.
Ridiculous!! Tbh the Nissan pathfinder rock creek is a much better option if your looking for a nice offroad option!! 46k in the states 6cyl 295hp 275tq 9 speed auto trans And off road modes with gear vectoring awd It’s a bargain compared to the jeep trailhawk for 68k in the states crazy not to cross shop these two
Trying to understand the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe I’m sure where to start here. Higher end model’s (Trims) all have towing of 6,000 lbs. There are no tow packages offered on the Trailhawk and above (is this standard on these model’s - if so there’s no mention of this anywhere in the specifications). Now the lower trim of the Grand Cherokee 4xe only has a tow rating of 1,588 kg or 3500 lbs. I believe you can add a tow package to this lower trim - will that increase their towing capacity? That package only consists of 4,7 pin wiring harness, automatic headlamp leveling system and class IV hitch receiver. Nothing there seems to me anything that would expand towing capacity. So in a long winded way please explain to me how the higher trims ( Trailhawk, Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve) have a 6,000 pound towing capacity???
Zack, why is Lane Keep Assist always tugging at the wheel? I've not had that problem either in our own or in rental cars with LKA. Excellent informative review as always.
I think they both look great. I need an off-road capable vehicle like another hole in the head though, so I wouldn't even consider this overpriced Jeep. At that price point I'd be looking at a Japanese luxury brand. Maybe even the Mazda CX-90 and spend the extra loot saved on a used MX-5.
Used one in Kelowna is 70 grand. I'll pick up a RDX for 20 grand less because there's no way I'll ever spend 20 grand in gas through the life of the vehicle
Great review thank you! I live in the US and signed on one of these beautiful machines on DEC 2023. Not cheap but so far I have not regretted trading in my '20 Rubicon (which I also loved) for this off road beast. If a Rubicon and a top-end GC ever hooked up and had a baby this It is what the baby would look like! The Trailhawk 4xe is a dynamic vehicle and features a unique blend of fast and aggressive-looking and luxurious. Reviews on the '24 model are still very minimal and despite the sticker price they are still hard to find in the USA (especially with a sunroof, which in my opinion makes a big difference). Thanks again!! ❤❤
I have a ram 1500 with air suspension but in Canada it is a liability due to corrosion. Currently looking at a plug in SUV and while I have owned a jeep trailhawk (gas) I think the Mazda CX70 is so much better on performance and value. I don't like that you can't get a 2024 jeep to save your life, while you can get a 2025 CX70. Every jeep dealer I have talked to about getting one just deflects and offers up one of their 2023s. I really liked your reviews of the 70 gas and plug in.
So do the electric motors only work for ~25 miles, or does the engine charge the battery so you can have power from both gas and electric all the time if you want?
..just noticed at 11:41min the brake lights, not a fan, very slim and only on the outside elements ( I think), and then the 3rd brake light on top of course... Is that just me but looks like someone approaching from the rear could have a hard time noticing the brake lights, I may me overthinking this...
PHEV makes senses in so many SUVs. But not in this JGC. Its more of a compliant car for Jeep while they are focusing on selling more gas-powered SUVs and truck, which make more senses for their application. My neighbour has bought the exactly the same car, as the press car. But she came from a brand notorious for poor fuel economy and reliability. A Range Rover Sport. If I have to buy a premium PHEV SUV, just got get an X3 or Q5.
Please get the basic numbers correct. At 14:59 when comparing X5 45e at $83,500 and Zach said it is 13 grand more expensive. At 15:15 you both said Audi Q5 TFSIe at $76,000 and is more expensive than Jeep. Then at 16:56 the base model price went up 78,825. lol come on guys!
I've always loved GC's and was quite interested in the 4Xe when I first heard about it. Partially thanks to you guys I'm picking up GC # 5 on Saturday, and even went for the Trailhawk. While I usually like all the bells and whistles, I found the leather seats in the Summit Reserve rock hard and didn't want to take the chance I'd get it home and have a sore back within the week. Trailhawk seats are soft and had enough give that I went with that.
Does this go into Fuel Oil Refresh Mode like the wrangler 4xe? It is bothering some 4xe owners especially living in the colder climate. Curious to find out.
We'll be sticking with the Kia Sportage Hybrid for our end of 2023 car purchase. Nothing seems to offer a better deal when it comes to specs, features, mileage, quality and warranty, at least not yet. And the Honda HRV even fully spec model is a bit too little.
Love the GC and hybrids. Curious as to why no push to just a hybrid vs plug-in. Toyota is killing it with their hybrids with the Rav4 pushing close to 40mpg. Yes a lighter vehicle but they've been able to keep the price point down. If the Hybrids and PHEV's can't get at least 30mpg, its just not worth it at that pricepoint. Sad to see the Trailhawk move exclusively to 4XE as well. Will be interesting to see if this was a good move for Stellantis.
In the US this also qualifies for the 7500 tax credit..............which Stellantis is currently offering to take off the cap cost if you want to lease, plus a 2k incentive. That means you can get these for a pretty low monthly in the US all things considered.
That's what i was looking at. I've started finding these well discounted (if you're willing to travel) and with those IRS incentives it could drop the prices of these more expensive models to a well affordable range.
Great vehicle but plug-in hybrid is not good. Interior are beautiful design. This brand is always a very expensive machine. Great video Andrea! 👍🏻👍🏻☕️☕️
The 4 cylinder just isn’t going to cut it, not to mention the very small battery. Reliability will be a factor that is compromised with these specs! A 6 cylinder engine and a battery 🔋 twice the size would have been better and more dependable. Missed opportunities will bankrupt some manufacturers in next decades.
Yeah, I'm not a believer in these puny 4 cyls that they are putting in these giant heavy road hogs. I'm guessing they are durable enough for the warranty duration. Caveat emptor to used buyers though.
more weight would not equal better, you add two electric motors with a V6, you'd have to put over 500 horsepower just to get under 8 seconds. 4 cylinders are underrated, and with two electric motors combined, your not missing the V6. but if you're just wanting the V6, the regular gas Cherokee will give you that. this is the 4XE model, so it's for people that want this.
In the US, at least, this falls well within BMW X5 45e price range. You were pretty hard on X5 45e, but don't compare this with 45e. Unless off-roading a lot, I was wondering how one would justify this over X45e?
Hi guys can you tell me if the cherokee 4xe does it have a noise when you step and release the accelerator thinking of buying this model my 2022 pacifica plug in hybrid does make that noise hoping not the same system
Unfortunately most of us were not that lucky with the air suspension. The air suspension is so bad, there is a class action lawsuit in Alberta for the "allegedly" defective air suspension parts. The plaintiffs are represented by Invictus LLP. The air suspension is the second most common issues on RAMs.
We still don't think any of these luxury brand PHEV's have enough range and are very expensive which we talked about in this review. It's the same with the X5 45e starting over $80,000 CAD. I do think PHEVs are great if you can stay within the EV range most of the time. You can have a clean drive most days.
Just leased an Overland 4XE, fully loaded. This is my 4th Grand lease. Simply to say....SWEET ride, all around. Some don't care for the plug-in H, but I do love it. One way to work and some back on electric, wonderful for me. This car is a Range Rover for the poor, in my book. I love all the option and comfort for the driver. I strongly recommend to all, just test drive one. I did a 24 months lease cause of the plug-in. No record for reliability, YET!
I had an overland 2011 and now an overland 2015. I am sold to the JGC, it is incredible. However, this new pricing makes it totally out of my reach now. So unfortunate and unwarranted, i am afraid Jeep is going to lose customers with this.
I just leased one for $433 a month in the US. They' overpriced these and now are trying to clear out their inventory. At the price range I got it for with all the incentives, discounts and the $7500 rebate it's definitely worth it.The x5 45e monthly payment will be 2x the payments. No way I would pay the $66k USD MSRP price though on mine if it were full price.
Not many people plug in their PHEVs every night. I'd be more likely to plug it in once or twice a week to save a little fuel. How well do you think it works in that situation? I don't care much about pure EV range. I prefer seamless operation and predictable behavior.
German cars just work like a standard hybrid when discharged, and usually can top up the battery while driving, but at the cost of fuel economy but that’s still less than using fuel in traffic.
@@Brian-jv8iy Mercedes Benz has an integrated starter/generator that's pancaked between the transmission and the ICE. I think Jeep does the same thing. However, both systems are very complicated. It would be nice to see them shed some weight and complexity and have only an axial motor in the transmission that replaced the flywheel, the alternator/generator, torque convertor, and the starter all in one shot. It hasn't been done yet, so it must be hard to do. Also, maybe there's some way of integrating a heat pump in the engine's cooling cycle to get rid of the heater core and simplify that.
I bought A 2021 RAV 4 Prime XSE, USED I personally believe this RAV4 Prime XSE fully loaded was underpriced even at $60K. Brand new at the full price this amzing SUV is priced very low. I Compared it: The new 2023 RangeRover PHEV is $137000 + taxes The 2023 Volvo PHEV REcharge is $99000+taxes and the 2023 Porsche Cayenne PHEV is $129000 +taxes . I actually think the RAV4 Prime, may not be as "Pretty or Prestigious" as those so called Luxury SUV Models are. But the Prime has much longer EV range and is rock solid. If I had a 1 dollar for every positive comment I hear about R4P, i could buy one of these overpriced, massive deprecating, Cherokee models etc etc for a second "look at me SUV". 🙂 It never what you pay for something its what you sell it for!🧐 These dream brands will let you down every time on resale. Toyotas will not! Best resale of all autos. (excluding collector car values)
Sure and far is better in reliable engine and parts than the Ranger Rover. And you can enjoy in Jeep some trim levels of a front screen in the passenger side for a better and comfortable entertainment for all your passengers. 💎👌🏻
Nice suv, but it's boxing well above it's weight class. I'm a ram/jeep/dodge fan.. but jeep is really moving out of their class with these high price suvs
I love the design, but buying one i would never, maybe just a lease because Jeep/ Chrysler reliability is so bad, can't compare this aspect to volvo. In the end it all depend on money and what is the use done with the car. I loved it until i heard the price, it just killed it for me haha
They should’ve given it 100 miles under electric so fail in their behalf and the price is ridiculous! The US economy is grinding to a halt and the financial rocket scientists at Jeep are going to feel it! To buy a vehicle you should only spend 1/10 of your income which puts you at $100k to $200k annual income to legitimately afford these cars!! Especially when US rents are $2k per month or mortgages are around $2k to $10k per month!!! This takes 50% of the US population out of the market for this vehicle.
The air suspension might work fine for you all in BC, not so for us in SK where we get to -40C. I have a RAM 1500 Limited with air suspension that was a $3K option, then only to pay another $2K out of pocket to the dealer to remove it a couple years later after constant issues. Dealer admits the RAM/JEEP air system is not for cold climates. Just GOOGLE and see multiple class action lawsuits. It was my favorite option when working and my worst nightmare when not working ........ ARRGGG
I guess all brands have their quirks. I love the air suspension in my S-Class Mercedes. I was in Alberta a few years ago at xmas and it was -32ºC. No issues with the suspension at all. The heater was another story. We were kept warm, but not hot. The subzero temps reminded us to stay in BC.
A loaded Jeep Wrangler is $128,000. With 13% tax and 96 month financing at 6.99%(current Chrysler rate) works out to a little over $190,000.00. Jeep has lost their minds! Again, $190,000.00 for a Jeep Wrangler!
To those who often quote "overpriced" in their questions. If you live in a free world running on capitalism, nothing is "overpriced" because you have the right to drive straight to the other brands. Everything has a budget and they spent theirs on certain things and cut on certain things. Plastic in the bottom half of the interior is a mainstay in almost any brand now. If you want your interior covered in high quality plush materials, go with Rolls Royce or the more affordable brand, Bentley! It's a free world.
Love the 4xe lineup. Currently driving a 3 row midsize SUV. For the starting price of nearly $66,000 (USA), I think I would opt for a larger vehicle. I.e. Ford Expedition. Yeah I know gas guzzling beast but a bigger bang for the buck. Will definitely take another look when Wagoneer gets electrified or Grand Cherokee 4xe is offered in an L model.
Always a Dance with the Devil with the feature rich Jeep GC but this to me has saved the entire Brand from just peace of mind alone. Sorry to hear in comment below that their Wrangler xE was stolen but hardly surprised happening sad but true. Entire World literally waiting on the well panned going on forever Toyota Rav4 Prime which quite suddenly is making all the noise given the stunning success of what was once The Most Boring Car Ever Prius made by Toyota now not that at all anymore. Still great time to be in the hyper competitive and hyper innovative North America Das Auto and another great review as the new and better products keep flooding an already saturated USA market anyways. Can't speak to Canada other than to watch this great RUclips effort here going on forever.
Depends. If you're looking for an off-road vehicle, then definitely not. If you're one of the " 'merica! " types, then definitely not. Otherwise, I don't know why you wouldn't cross shop this and the Santa Fe.
Same size AWD turbo PHEV with better warranty and similar plastic fantastic quality (yes, I said it), and you can buy two cheap and cheerful Hyundai's for the price of one Jeep.
they are beautiful vehicles but they have the worst warranty. 3 years 36,000 miles. doesn’t give you a very confident feeling when the manufacturer doesn’t offer at least 48,000 miles standard.
@@Motormouth... really? Mercedes is four years 48,000 miles, Lexus is four years 50,000 miles even my new F150 Ford truck is four years 48,000 miles. Hyundai Santa Fe is six years 60,000 miles and 10 years 100,000 miles for the powertrain
@@Motormouth... i’m sure you correct. for us to spend $70,000 we want more then 3 years 36k miles. The more research we do the more we like the certified program of many manufacturers.
Welp......guess I'm not selling my ford flex ecoboost for a grand Cherokee. 80k!?! Geez louise
Ridiculous!! Tbh the Nissan pathfinder rock creek is a much better option if your looking for a nice offroad option!! 46k in the states
6cyl 295hp 275tq
9 speed auto trans
And off road modes with gear vectoring awd
It’s a bargain compared to the jeep trailhawk for 68k in the states crazy not to cross shop these two
I miss my flex. One of the best, most trouble free vehicles I’ve owned.
Just pick up a Overland 4xe and love everything about it other then the MSRP…..ouch!
Trying to understand the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe
I’m sure where to start here.
Maybe Zack falls asleep at the wheel a lot.
Hybrid mode, only a +2MPG (US) advantage over a V6 Gas.
Even though I would not own either one(Jeep or Volvo), I love the looks of that XC60 recharge, a ton more.
I think they both look great. I need an off-road capable vehicle like another hole in the head though, so I wouldn't even consider this overpriced Jeep. At that price point I'd be looking at a Japanese luxury brand. Maybe even the Mazda CX-90 and spend the extra loot saved on a used MX-5.
if something breaks. how long does there warrantee approvals take, and what is the reliability ?
Have you got your hands on the new ZO6 2024 ?
Does the battery get charged while driving in gas mode only?
In hybrid mode, the gas engine is periodically sending power to the battery and assisting the electric motors.
In E-save the gas engine charged the battery from 1% to 80%. It was handy.
getting one soon summit reserve is it true it has heated windshield wipers
..just noticed at 11:41min the brake lights, not a fan, very slim and only on the outside elements ( I think), and then the 3rd brake light on top of course... Is that just me but looks like someone approaching from the rear could have a hard time noticing the brake lights, I may me overthinking this...
Does this have 7 seat option
PHEV makes senses in so many SUVs. But not in this JGC. Its more of a compliant car for Jeep while they are focusing on selling more gas-powered SUVs and truck, which make more senses for their application. My neighbour has bought the exactly the same car, as the press car. But she came from a brand notorious for poor fuel economy and reliability. A Range Rover Sport. If I have to buy a premium PHEV SUV, just got get an X3 or Q5.
How is this the one to get? $80k with a sub standard 4-cyl, with a paltry 25 miles of ev range that provides combined 20mpg?
How has Chryslers reliability been in the past it wasn’t that good is that still true?
We'll be sticking with the Kia Sportage Hybrid for our end of 2023 car purchase. Nothing seems to offer a better deal when it comes to specs, features, mileage, quality and warranty, at least not yet. And the Honda HRV even fully spec model is a bit too little.
No HUD in a modern vehicle?
Love the GC and hybrids. Curious as to why no push to just a hybrid vs plug-in. Toyota is killing it with their hybrids with the Rav4 pushing close to 40mpg. Yes a lighter vehicle but they've been able to keep the price point down. If the Hybrids and PHEV's can't get at least 30mpg, its just not worth it at that pricepoint. Sad to see the Trailhawk move exclusively to 4XE as well. Will be interesting to see if this was a good move for Stellantis.
Does it have Quadra Drive 4x4 system?
In the US this also qualifies for the 7500 tax credit..............which Stellantis is currently offering to take off the cap cost if you want to lease, plus a 2k incentive. That means you can get these for a pretty low monthly in the US all things considered.
That's what i was looking at. I've started finding these well discounted (if you're willing to travel) and with those IRS incentives it could drop the prices of these more expensive models to a well affordable range.
Does the charger have a block heater mode? (kidding, but maybe not)
Great vehicle but plug-in hybrid is not good.
375 HP 470 lb. ft. torque is more HP and torque than the 5.7 liter hemi. Actually the torque is the same lb. ft. as the 6.2 hemi.
It sucks I have one. I broke the lease today and I had it for 3 months. And you’re right the 4 cylinder is severely under powered
more weight would not equal better, you add two electric motors with a V6, you'd have to put over 500 horsepower just to get under 8 seconds.
FYI, Jeep products were known to have air suspension problems in cold climates. They broke a lot on grand cherokees and rams
Stelantis air suspension is junk. RAM 1500 are notorious for major air suspension issues. My advise, stay away from it, you will regret it big time:
I live in Saskatchewan and have had my truck for three years and had absolutely no issues in temps down to -40. The system works flawlessly
I was waiting to your view on the new jeep! Love that car? Let me guess zac wants the BMW X5?
for that amount of black plastic on the inside....the car is overpriced. Love you two - excellent video, as always.
I have the '24 TH 4xe. It comprises about 10% of the interior and in my opinion it looks amazing.
My wife and I wanted one.... went to the dealership however the price is a solid no... surprised 360 camera is not as standard
Perfect 10” off-road capability while going to Safeway AND saving gas!
That's a lot of money for what could be a shop queen, and with such a short warranty, it's a risk.
The price is killing it for me, also the small battery. I'd take the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and put some money in my pocket :)
I enjoy the reviews, but mostly I enjoy Andrea!
Harganya 2 m dpt ga
Take it easy Andrea and what's under that hood tonight. Great all round rugged car the Jeep Cherokee with all round terrain driving.
Haha, I like to feel the power!
@@andreaspencer9813 Absolutely Andrea!
Wait, you guys were so anti PHEV and recommend the non electrified version of SUVs like the X5 for example. Why the change of heart?
We still don't think any of these luxury brand PHEV's have enough range and are very expensive which we talked about in this review. It's the same with the X5 45e starting over $80,000 CAD. I do think PHEVs are great if you can stay within the EV range most of the time. You can have a clean drive most days.
Nice review.
Smoking My Lucky Nicaraguan Cigar , BUT Bills Ned some Good thoughts being sent their way NOW:) Cheers Allan
Yes there just plain Hybrid model??
Only a plug-in hybrid
The price. That’s my review.
I am also in US and considering leasing. which model and year of GC 4xe did you get, Trailhawk or ? guessing based on $66K USD MSRP.......
@@wozekeable It was the base model but it was optioned up quite a bit. The base models are the ones that least the best by far.
Not many people plug in their PHEVs every night. I'd be more likely to plug it in once or twice a week to save a little fuel. How well do you think it works in that situation? I don't care much about pure EV range. I prefer seamless operation and predictable behavior.
German cars just work like a standard hybrid when discharged, and usually can top up the battery while driving, but at the cost of fuel economy but that’s still less than using fuel in traffic.
just saying jeep might do the same, it’s also good to not charge plugins
🙂 It never what you pay for something its what you sell it for!🧐
These dream brands will let you down every time on resale.
Toyotas will not! Best resale of all autos. (excluding collector car values)
Three years complimentary service in the US?!?! But us in Canada get nada, eh?..😠
Sure and far is better in reliable engine and parts than the Ranger Rover. And you can enjoy in Jeep some trim levels of a front screen in the passenger side for a better and comfortable entertainment for all your passengers. 💎👌🏻
I know it's called a plug-in hybrid, but can they charge the battery while driving too?
I would rather have the new gx550
Wow. Amazing..
This car, for this price, makes a lot of senses for lease if you can get tax credit.
2023 Grand Cherokee SRT please.
$100k for a JEEP? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is just absurdly expensive for a Jeep. Needs to be about $20k cheaper if not more considering how awfully unreliable these are.
Santa Fe? Cannot imagine anyone looking at a Grand Cherokee or it’s ilk looking at a Santa Fe.
Nooooo!! Jeep just charges way too much premium! In Zack’s language… they punch way above their weight in terms of pricing!
they are beautiful vehicles but they have the worst warranty. 3 years 36,000 miles. doesn’t give you a very confident feeling when the manufacturer doesn’t offer at least 48,000 miles standard.
That is industry standard.
@@Motormouth... really? Mercedes is four years 48,000 miles, Lexus is four years 50,000 miles even my new F150 Ford truck is four years 48,000 miles.
