Jeep obviously makes very capable off-road vehicles, but I just can’t get past their reliability issues no matter who the current owner of the name plate is. Great review. I’ve tried other vehicle review channels but yours is by far the most professional, comprehensive and well videographed of any I’ve seen.
It sucks when there’s no variety in reliability.
My buddy’s Wrangler blew its motor and he dismissed it as a “Jeep thing.” It cracks me up when fanboys make excuses for it like it’s a feature. Lol
Don’t get me wrong, I love Jeeps but reliability is something left to be desired.
Many different models, many years as JEEP Cult, 51 years and never had a bad JEEP, I pound on my jeeps and still no problems. Jeeps are not for everyone is more than a vehicle ✌ most people that talk bad about them never had a single one ,
@@e36325is notice it's always someone's else's jeep and never your own , same stories. 3.6 just don't blow up . Or 5.7 , 6.1, 6.4 . . I had a buddy with a Chevy Silverado with a 327 that blew his engine because he never checked the dam oil .
I’ve owned jeep for 25 years. I’ve never had a reliability issue. Last thing that ever broker on my grand Cherokee was the back wiper motor. I just got a new GV overland and it’s beautiful. Now my wife’s, Toyota… that’s another story of repairs.
I wish Jeep would bring back the gas-engine Trailhawk. The 4xe is cool but it's priced almost double what I'd expect to have to pay for a GC. It's probably the only reason I don't own one right now. Very interested in this review thanks.
I got my 4xe overland for slightly over 61 before tax and ev rebate. I agree with you that the only downside is the low ev range. Always enjoyed your show. Thank you!
That's a good price, you could easily flip it for profit in the right city.
Where did you get that deal, thanks?

Hey how is the fuel economy and reliability in the past 6 months?
@@Hi-how-are-you-today. The reliability is excellent. There is some software glitch that is annoying but overall it is great to drive. The mpg on the dash after 12k miles is 35mpg
i like how he refers to the vehicles alarms and configuration limitations at complaints. this is a true car enthusiast point of view.
I love the look and the interior of this generation of Grand Cherokee. I am going to hold off buying a Jeep right now since a co-worker purchased a Wrangler 4xe a year and a half ago with nothing but problems. They have already replaced the transmission, replaced the hardtop due to manufacturing defects, and has had numerous engine stall issues. Seems like every other week he is driving a loaner or rental because his Wrangler is in the shop. If Jeep can get it’s reliability up I would love to have a Grand Cherokee in my garage.
I share your sentiment. I grew up in a Mopar family and still have 2 old Dodges (66 and 74). However, my wife and I have 2 Acuras (2012 and 2013) that have over 120k and 164k miles. Any issues were minor and they continue to serve us well. I sincerely would want to consider a new Jeep GC one day, and if I were, it would be one with the most basic powertrain that has been tried and true.
Tell your friend, “lemon law”
Great review of the Jeep. I enjoy your honest review of the different features. Looking forward to another vehicle review. Have fun on the gravel roads.
I Don’t know why manufacturers put piano black on dashboard or center shift console because the glare from the sun it’s too bright so it’s very annoying in and a dust magnet.
I think you should consider putting more numbers as text on screen. Especially because you are an off road oriented channel, I would appreciate a slide at the beginning of the drive section stating approach, departure, breakover, and max and min ground clearance (for air suspensions).
I really enjoy seeing things come and go with vehicles. Auto makers always try new stuff. Some of it doesn't work, but some of it stays permanent. Piano black is going to run its course. There was also a very short era of having screens without volume knobs.
Somehow I haven't been a viewer of this channel. Glad I found you. A new sub for sure! Thoughtful, logical, pragmatic believable. The world needs 2 Alex on Auto type channels.
As for the GC 4xe. I like the GC and the GC 4xe. Off road ability of Jeep with a luxurious interior that Stelantis has leaned in to. What would stop me from buying it? Complexity. From a brand that still has to build trust to get the simple things right... Combining a two-speed transfer case with adaptive suspension AND a plug-in hybrid system on a non-Toyota product. No. I pause at a standard GC much less a plug in hybrid.
Conquest Overland will LOVE this.
The PHEV aspect is very much on a case-by-case basis. We can charge regularly and do most of our errands/commuting within electric range (round trip) and have been able to hit 950 miles between needing to fill up on gas. We also lucked out with a bunch of free L2 chargers around our area that aren't ICEd often or at all. Potential buyers also need to keep in mind what their cost per kWh is vs. what the price per gallon of fuel is if they are more concerned about the cost of running one of these.
As for the passenger screen, it came standard on our Base trim, and we have used it maybe a handful of times. It could be used if you are offroading with a passenger, and they can view the cameras on that screen at any speed. We have also used the TomTom nav, and the passenger can look up destinations on the fly and send them over to the main screen. The HDMI port does allow you to hook up any number of FIRESTICKS or equivalent, but then you are at the mercy of a data plan and connection. It stays off most of the time.
I already have one, not the XE though, but thanks for showing the can you sleep in it part. I think someone up to 6 foot tall can sleep in the back if your aren't sleeping like a corpse. The width inside is about 40" between the wheel humps. A Toyota 4 Runner has about 4 inches less of laying down room if you wanted to sleep in it, so I didn't get a 4 Runner. I didn't want a L version, I imagine you get another 3-4 inches in those.
Thank you for really nice reviews. Love this new look grand Cherokee 👍😀
Ryan, great review. You possess very thorough knowledge and you deliver your narratives very clearly and with good methodology. This is the first review of yours I've seen. Thank you.
I'm in the market for a new car (SUV) and am trending toward this Jeep. Thanks again, Ryan.
Love the vids ,, keep em coming.
When are you gonna review a Cherokee Trailhawk off road ????
Cherokee is discontinued. Not going to review one at this point.
@@drivingsports wow. Thanks for the update. Love the channel
I love your intro !! 75k oof pretty penny . I guess you could do decent off roading but idk 75k is lot
Hay i live in israel and i orderd a 2023 land cruiser Prado. Was that a good idea?
All this travel to test the car on a steep climb of a few meters??? I preferred the rocky route you used to test the cars on. That was really challenging. I'm a bit disanointed by the lack of actual off-road action, but an honest, comprehensive review nonetheless.
It was a weird time of year. Lowlands were all mud and too high meant several feet of icy snow. 🤷♂️
I know you did your Frontier vs Taco video... But I'd love to see you do a regular video with the Frontier on your test hill
Actually the problem of range is not so much the battery, but the efficiency of the electric propulsion. Its uses 50% more energy the a BMW X5 50e when running in EV mode.
Good review, but I'd like to see this on the DC off-road course. I seriously looked at one of these along with the Kia Sportage PHEV. The problem with both of these is that the price to MPG ratio is ridiculous - you pay a premium and there is literally no advantage. The Kia is a little better in terms of MPG, but it's also $50k+ for a very plastic interior. The Jeep is just way too much, you might as well buy a Range Rover or something German with similar MPG (or a Lexus GX if you want to come back from your off-road adventures...).
It's not really a question of saving $ on gas - you'll never come out ahead, just forget that, but MPG has a huge impact on range, which is a big deal if you spend any amount of time in the bush.
Like I've said on other videos, I bought a used Jag F-Pace diesel which gets mid-30's on the highway ~500 miles of range and has all the Land Rover off-road electronics & suspension. With the leftover $$$, I bought a BMW i3 with the range extender generator ~75 miles on electric & ~75 miles on the generator. Best of both worlds, these two replaced a Volvo wagon (loved it but terrible gas mileage) and a VW GTi.
I’m really disappointed that you can no longer get the Trailhawk model with the 3.6L V6 engine. I sincerely hope Jeep brings it back. I’m not sold on the hybrid engine because the batteries on the electric motor, which actually adds a lot of power, run out of steam way too quickly. I drive primarily on the highway and the V6 gets better highway gas mileage than the hybrid engine. So I really don’t see much point in the hybrid engine unless they increase the battery range to 50 miles.
If you’re really nice to the people at the dealership, they will let you use the seat massagers during the long hours it’s in the shop.
You never owned a jeep.
This looks nice from every angle except the front grill.
North America, EU, not sure where can you buy land cruiser.
I love Grand Cherokees but they got a bit too pricey for me
Very confused by the reporting of the mileage in this video. What's the mileage when running in a "normal" hybrid mode, where the gas engine and electric motors are operating in tandem? I also don't understand an "off-road" review test that's mostly on fire roads and not the Driving Sports private trails to truly test and compare it to other off-road vehicles tested there.
The milage is about 35 mpg in hybrid mode. When you speed up and have tons of fun like Ryan, the mpg drops a lot. The car super fun when you have full battery. Also the smaller charging motor for electric is super loud too. He did not say about that.
@@normanrabbitlee I've read it's more like in the 20's from all the testing I've seen. And I would also like to see on the standard Driving Sports track - disappointed that wasn't done.
@ck m The gas engine only gets 20ish but the max regen provides extra milage, I typically get about high 20s when I am driving only with gas which is not bad. It is also true I drive like grandma and regen whenever I can.
What happened to YOUR jeep compass?
Like all these reviewers they change cars as often as they do their clothes.

When will the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe review come?
That 🐓 at 2:16 😂
Nice review as always👏. Can you please review Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV 2023 and go over its offroad capabilities🙏?
I am going to buy one i would however love by the time i do aquire one i will be able to use this Jeep as a generator to run my home or shop. I live in South Africa we do not always have electricity and water.. perhaps a solar panel on roof as extra
Nice review, think i`ll wait for a SRT8-E version with a 100kW battery and a 6.4L V8 !
This would be awesome.
Love the chicken casually walking by!
Time guarantee of the batteries? Like you r vídeos Ralph
Pacifica is 10 years
Thanks for the unicorn and rainbows comment because I laughed so hard I spit coffee out all over. Lol!!
Fun and comfortable a lot for an automotive journalist to like about this car.
It disturbs me that the Grand Cherokees rear seat is still so bad, it's basically inexcusable for the cost. I sat in one at my local auto show back when the WK2 was current, the back seat in the 1st gen Compass facelift was world's more comfortable.
This backseat is bad probably because the batteries are underneath it.
plate tectonics OMG 😂✅🏆
When will you review the Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition ⛰️🏞️🚙
One thing I rarely see covered in reviews is the lighting. Both interior and exterior are important, but reviewers rarely talk about it
Get the Limited - it’s the best bang for your buck
What is a music name in first 23 seconds?
Does, the government offer a tax credit for Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe ? And does it very by state?
The first thing I noticed, you have to manually lower the the back seats? For a $75k vehicle? How sad is that. Great review!
Yeah, they just kept the same system the previous gen Grand Cherokee used, but they need to consider those things when they jack the price up so high and start competing against luxury vehicles.
Which color is this jeep car? Please
Should of been a normal hybrid than plug in like you mentioned
What about grand Cherokee L
Do jeep make 4*e for 3 row suv
yes
If I was ever to trade in my Bronco Sport Badlands, it would be a 4xe Trailhawk.
Thanks for sharing
Where is this place? Does anyone knows?
Is Jeep's current reliability actually a big issue or is it blown out of proportion when compared to other American manufacturers?
Other than the 4xe it uses a very reliable v6 and reliable transmission that were used in the last gen
$75k seems crazy for a PHEV with such a small range. I ditched my Jeep after years of issue after issue for my Rav4 Hybrid. TBD on how the Toyota holds up, but I'll never be back in a Jeep on my own dime
Absolutely agree about the graphics design, cars for half it’s price put them to shame. The Tech is there, it just seems they hired the wrong people to design the UI. Hope Jeep changes it, as it’s making it’s way to the Wrangler. So far upgrades have been sparse and pointless
I see no point in e vehicles as the prices cost as much as 3-4 new gas vehicles even if you spend on gas for the first 5 years, the gas vehicles still wont reach as high as the e cars.
My wife's Pacifica burns gas virtually only when it gets stale from sitting months in the tank and the vehicle decides to use it up before it becomes a problem. She never even noticed fuel prices anymore in the way to work.
In my area electricity is really cheap. She spends very little on electricity (the home charger monitors use and cost. Couple bucks a day)
As with any PHEV, it's a matter of how you drive it. I consistently get 33mpg in my 5,400 lb Wrangler 4xe. Also if you do your research, you can get insane deals on Jeeps making them even more affordable. I'm driving my Wrangler for almost $17,000 under MSRP.
What deals exactly?
I like it but is it reliable?
It has three different water coolers. I would expect this thing to be a maintenance nightmare.
Well the PHEV is eligible for rebates that regular hybrids are not eligible for so I can understand why some people would go with this vehicle despite the limited electric-only range.
The passenger screen is one of the few things preventing me getting the 4xe. Just WHY.
All the brands I know have an 'EV' booster battery model.
video start in my Town, Verona, Italy
These are handsome trucks. I sat in a $77k model that had cognac colored leather. The only let down was the hard plastic on the side of the center console. It looked and felt so cheap. I which they extended leather or even vinyl down the side.
I want one of these so badly but the pricing is ridicules
I want to be powered by unicorns and rainbows, too. 😂
Wish they'd bring back the visco-loc front and rear differentials instead of that useless ELSD that doesn't seem to be working in this video.
I get your point about a small battery.
Saying that, I would like to charge the vehicle while stopping in a service area and keep the AC on during that time in the summer. So for roadrips, PHEV makes some sense for me.
PHEV's shouldn't be charged on road trips... it would take 2 hours to charge the battery from 0-100%... EV mode is intended for slow off road use or urban commuting.
@@mowcowbell
It can add some boost during 15 min stop.
More importantly, the AC can be running while I am in the toiled and the dog is waiting in the car.
@@valdius85 Good luck finding a Level 2 charging station along rural stretches of road! Remember, the 4xe cannot use DC Fast charging (CCS) stations. The 'fast' charge option for a 4xe is put gas in it.
Maguires PLASTI X will do a great job removing scratches on plastic.
One of the better looking SUVs on the road, but it’s just not worth the price. No one is really taking this off anything more than a dirt road, so an X5e for the same money feels much more solid. I sat in one at the dealer and the hard plastics were still very prevalent and the center storage door felt so flimsy. Plus the piano black will look trashed in a month
Bull shit that's what its made for , yes I do 4 wheel drive in my GC that's why I'm JEEP cult, all my jeeps go wheeling. I use my WK2 off road more than my JKU OR MK . They are not mall crawlers or pavement princess . Jeeps are not for everyone and if you don't go 4 wheeling you don't need one ✌
Don't care of screeches but care of that thermal camera. Had saved me several times from an expensive repair
Great review! I agree with the lack of EV range of the 4XE Jeeps. I wish on roadtrips I could plug in my destination on the navigation and then the Jeep would figure out when/how to deploy the battery. If I go on a 300 mile road trip, it would be nice for the battery to hit 0 miles once I get to my destination.
They should program them so the battery only works in stop and go traffic in cities, outside of that electric is completely pointless.
On all the Jeep's 4 by East. Station offer 200 mile range for Electric Are more 300-400 mile range electric
The rear ESLD programming is not very good, its evident the rear axle isn't locking at the slightest amount of wheel spin, where as the WK2 platform ELSD would lock and stay locked based on selec terrain setting and/or the slightest amount of wheel speed difference. ruclips.net/video/bk7U0L_Ezoc/видео.html
Gm everyone in the chat stay safe out there today
I just don’t understand the justification for the cost and complexity for such a limited EV range and lousy hybrid mpg. I would be very concerned about long-reliability. I would be more interested in just a hybrid version of this, or the reliable gas engine. Mpg gas vs. hybrid mode is not that impressive.
You are paying for all those electronic gadgets and touch screen crap.
@@wildbill23c that electronic crap is on every Jeep Grand Cherokee Outlander. The 4xe adds about $10-15k to the price.
@@danasampson818 Its on every vehicle built in the past couple decades LOL.
Yes, I know. The topic was whether or not the PEHV 4xe was worth the added cost. You can get a lower trim level with 4xe, which still adds $10k or so to the cost.
@@danasampson818 $10k buys a lot of gas, and less headaches of an unreliable hybrid system. I'd skip it especially since it'll only give you maybe 15-20 miles of EV range on a good day, my E-Bike for $800 gives me 45 miles of all EV range, and that is for a bike....$10k and you can only get 15-20 miles is pathetic with today's battery technology.
I feel like if you're spending $75000 on a hybrid SUV to save money on gas, you're not budgeting correctly. Why not get a $18k Land Cruiser 300 with 120k miles in it. It gets 12-14 mpg and in 10 years, you'll still not spend $57,000 on gas.
In Canada the wrangler 4xe's are the same price as non 4xes....between the 2 I have saved thousands in fuel
People that think they need a show off car to pretend their rich and show off to their friends, co-workers, and family is why these types of vehicles in that price range exist.
Yep you could definitely buy a nice used SUV for 1/4 of the price, and spend the next 10-20 years driving it and never use enough gas to justify the added $50k+ in vehicle cost.
@@wildbill23c Sounds like something a jealous poor would say, I buy vehicles because I like them and not what other people think, keep being poor
@@TnTTyler LOL, no thanks I'd never buy one, they wouldn't work for the towing I need to do...but nice try with your crybaby attitude answers though.

You should review the new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.
I work at Dodge and I would never, ever buy a 4xe Wrangler or 4xe Gr. Cherokee... they are by far the most unreliable vehicles we have closely followed by the Wagoneer or Gr. Wagoneer. I'm surprised how many people don't do their homework and actually buy these vehicules.

You didn't mention that crappy hard plastic on a 75k dollar vehicle???
LOL, every vehicle made today has plastic all over....even 30+ years ago the interiors were plastic. This hasn't changed, just the piss poor color choices for interior panels have gotten worse.
@@wildbill23c Missed my point I think. Obviously all cars have plastic. I'm talking about the hard plastic in the interior. In the same class/pricepoint if you look at Lincoln, GMC, Cadillac, any German luxury brand, etc. those plastics would instead be soft touch and much higher quality.
Anyone spending $75,000 USD on a Grand Cherokee must be huffing paint... especially when you remember its literally just a 4 cylinder under the hood.
