I think most snow modes are not calibrated for the deep snow, but for the hard packed plowed surfaces most people encounter. They certainly need a deep snow setting.

I know that most journalists do car reviews base on the factory features, and that is fair, but you guys know the huge difference that a proper set of tires can do for the application. I rather have all the goodies and potential from factory, and if I want to go serious about dip snow I just put proper tires, it the easiest mode to do. But that is me.

    Another great video/review.
Those tires are really holding back the performance in this test, when you first stopped and swapped to snow mode all 4 tires were spinning in place which is all on the tires being poorly spec’d for the off road package and not an issue with the vehicle. I would have thought that Jeep would put a 3 peak rated AT on the off road package, something like a Falken AT3W or at least the Goodyear Wrangler Trailrunner AT.
The good news though is you are one set of tires away from a solid setup. The bad news is you spent $60k+ and spec’d the off road package just for Jeep to cheap out on tires.

we live in Northern, ID... while our Jeep GC is the previous generation, it is brand new AND had the same tires as this tested Jeep. They are not very good. So we put Falken AT3W's on it and it's now amazing in all snow conditions. Night and day. So this was a good suggestion Mason.

    • @treydrier3169
      @treydrier3169 5 месяцев назад

Jeep didn't cheap out on the tires. Those tires are great for ride comfort and moderate weather conditions, which is what 95% of us need. If you live around the mountains or want to do serious off roading then simply swap out the tires as Sean did in the previous comment. Its literally that easy. :))

You need to be in Sand Mode for 100% full power. It turns traction control off. Driver is now in full control. Snow Mode kills the power which is exactly what you not want in deep snow. If you wanna do some donuts to play and learn car control, put it in Sand Mode which automatically turns off traction control. The 5.7 Hemi is the better engine.

Pulled out my share of 4 runners, expensive Range Rovers and everything in between! Also have a winch with expandable rope system, cables break and can be dangerous! I have a 2019 Grand Cherokee and the infotainment system is flaky as hell. Even the presets mysteriously disappear and go back to some weird default. Android Auto and Apple Car Play are equally flaky. But I really like everything else about it so I just bought a new 2024 Grand Cherokee Summit for $74k. Crazy, I know. Its a lot of dough for a Jeep but man is it nice. Absolutely stunning interior and the air suspension makes the ride extremely plush on the road yet firm enough as the driver. It has a FLIR night vision camera, probably paying for something I will rarely if ever use but it is a cool feature. I was also going to look at the Lexus RX 350 but it just doesn't have the guts of a Jeep GC.

Ditto brother…or sister, not allowed to ask anymore…..the idea of spending all this money for safety features is to keep from going off road…..gravel driveway is about as off-road as I want to get.
I have the Overland L…..gauge cluster….the cruise control indicated speed is very small.
Center stack….the 10.1” screen is nice but comes at a cost…..the cost being A/C vents….anyone in TX/NM/AZ will realize that real quick. Especially when you purchase in July
Wireless Charging pad…..recommended keeping the lid closed unless you actually have a phone charging. Too much risk of damage to the pad, phone or both.
The buttons on top of the infotainment screen are VERY poorly lit, no background lighting. You have to remember the switch position as in how many switches there are and count from left to right. Example…..traction control is the third button from the left. Fortunately most upper buttons are more of the less used systems.

The larger U-connect head unit screen blacks out at random intervals, and the front dome lights don't stay on when engaged by the ceiling button(s), until you hit it 3-4 times. Disappointing for a $52,xxx SUV

And to confuse the M+S rating (which i belive is a factor of tread depth and open tread area) with the 3 peak snowflake symbol even more - several all season and all terrain tires are now 3 peak snowflake rated, yet are still not comparable to a dedicated winter tire with the same rating. Also most snow modes are calibrated to keep wheels from slipping and keep the car on a slippery road, not deep snow or off road. Usually mud or sand modes allow for the wheelspin needed off road, that or traction disabled.

Question For Ryan - It seems you can't beat the off-road capability and clearance of the overland - I'm looking for a real world comparison to what the Subaru Ascent has to offer. I know this might seem like a bit of an apples and oranges question. I can look at specs, reviews and videos all day, but curious to know where the diminishing return on the Ascent truly shows in its AWD capability up and the Jeep Actually becomes necessary- justifying the 10k+ price gap on a new Ascent vs. a 2 year old used GCL Overland. We currently drive a 2015 Subaru Outback and have run out of space. I've got 2 kids, live Outside of Vancouver, BC and spend a fair amount of time on logging roads and marginally kept roads in the winter. Thanks.

I still prefer the 2021 exterior grill and overall styling to the 2022 but interior wise the 2022 is awesome. The only thing I don’t like on the inside is the rotary transmission dial , I really don’t like those at all.

I hear ya but it clears out space for the phone charger that previous models don't have. I have a 2019 GC Limited and just bought a 2014 GC Summit. The Limited really is a great SUV and my daughter will love it but the new Summit trim is at a whole different level with air suspension and the drop dead gorgeous interior.

The overland also comes with 3 rows.
Go on Jeep and build one mine came to 63,453.
This is with the expensive packages
This Jeep is so comfortable. With the higher upgrade packages. You get heat and cold lumber massage seats.
I have nerve damage in my tailbone and so I need a really comfortable seat.
The massage systems in other brands have.
    None compared to the Jeep.
    I fell asleep in it.
So if you have a bad back and want to drive longer then 3o min get one.

I do like the one I bought, the Cherokee L (limited) version, but having said that - mine is about 4 months old with 4300 miles on it and it's been in the shop 3 times now for (2) different recalls, followed by a "service 4WD" indicator light, which was supposed to be fixed with some software update, then they ended up replacing a drivetrain control module, that still did not clear the error. The larger U-connect head unit screen blacks out at random intervals, and the front dome lights don't stay on when engaged by the ceiling button(s), until you hit it 3-4 times. Disappointing for a $52,xxx SUV

The twin turbo inline 6 should be coming soonish, that will displace around 525 hp. They also have the 4xe with a turbo 4 cylinder and the 5.7 hemi. The outgoing Overland goes for over 60k with the same engines so not sure why you were expecting a big change.

Great review and driving. It really seems like these different driving modes Hinder the vehicle more than they do help because of reducing engine speed and applying the brakes when you seem to need momentum the most. The different ground clearance levels is a nice feature. Nonetheless… Way too expensive for my pockets. I like the Kia Sorrento.

I ran Android auto with a pixel 4a and apple car play with a 6s. Annoying and sorta scary when driving at night. BUT I love the jeep size and capability, especially since I don't like driving large SUVs this was perfect.

Just replaced my 2014 Overland ($52k) with a 2022 Overland L ($66.5), both V6. A lot more, but the 2022 has a third row, 4 zone climate control, 10.1 inch center screen, 10.5 inch passenger screen, McIntosh MX950 sound system, level 2 driver assist and ACC, cameras everywhere and night vision camera, rear view mirror camera,, and a lot more. Is that worth 15k? I think so but the point is you can get 2022 Overland for $58k but it’s still much better equipped than the 2014. YMMV.
