Agreed on the fert, I threw down some last week right before we got that much needed rain, made a huge difference in color and growth. We've had a very dry summer in IL no doubt about it.
What's up brotha?! Great to hear from you. Kids schedules have made time for RUclips limited but it feels good to get the camera back out! I hope all is well buddy.
Great video. New subscriber (just commented on the other "Mistakes folks make..." video. I over seeded my TTTF lawn on September 2. Added some amazing cultivars to my "Big Box Store" original seed. My story is a bit different....but short version is that the lawn - and I use that term "freely" here - was about 70% dirt and about 30% "green". Yes.....used specifically. Of the "green", likely 89% of that was weed. So, I killed the weeds and then seeded. I specifically and intentionally used the "Big Box Store" TTTF grass seed. Had decent results. Nice coverage, fair color, but suffered this summer (July and August in Lexington, NC are tough....). So, I over seeded. Used top-tier TTTF cultivars. Great results. Your video sums up nicely what folks can do to dramatically increase their success rate. Again, job well done.
So nailing down the the just right watering routine has been my challenge with my overseed as well as fighting squirrels. I’ve been watering 2 to 3 times a day with hose end oscillating fan sprinklers and most of yard seems to be just the right amount of wet except for a couple of spots that get soggy even with just 10 minutes. I don’t know if that’s because those spots happen to be the more bare spots with peat moss covering or what. Thinking about just using the eye and touch test to determine if I need to water or not and possibly just hand watering because my front yard is less than 1k square feet and the back is about 2k. Thoughts?
Thanks for the comment. It could be a low spot that is collecting the water and causing the issue. Hand watering would definitely help with that issue but it's very time consuming. The squirrels are a huge pain but there's not much you can do about them other than getting a motion sensor sprinkler attachment.
Are there any additional steps needed to prep clay soil for overseeding? We've had a pretty dry season here in Wisconsin, and my lawn isn't looking great after dethatching and overseeding
@@jesuswantsyoutopayme actually it's been about 2 weeks. The grass germinated pretty well. It's super thick in places. Who knows if all of it will survive though.
Thanks man. Great video. Straight to the point(s) without a bunch of useless chatter. The lawns you show are motivating too!
Thank you, Chris! I appreciate you watching and commenting.
Thanks for the information. Straight to the point, not too long, and very helpful. I appreciate it!
Thank you for the nice comment!
Great video! I will be doing my first mow after my overseed 15 days ago. I'm beyond excited to give the lawn a trim and clean it up.
Thanks, Jonny! Your patience will pay off. Enjoy your first mow!

I did the same! Put fertilizer down right before the rain we got all week. I'm glad to hear your grass is looking good!
I'm going to carefully take all of these steps this year!
Love that carpet look over the stripes. Lawn looks great.
Thank you, brother! I hope all is well.
Stripes or Bust 🤣🤣🤣
Great advice good to see your back with another great video

Thanks so much for the feedback, Cary! I'm glad you've had awesome results with your TTTF. That's a great grass type for your zone in NC!
Great video!!! Good tips and straight to the point. The lawn is looking awesome!!!!
Thank you, Seth!
@@lakehouselawncare1755 what height should we mow it down to for cool season before we go to thatch??
Great to see you buddy! My sons doing an overseed right now. I just shared your video. Great advice as usual and the lawn looks amazing!!
Scott!! My man! Thank you for the kind words. Good luck to your son on his overseed.
Wow!!! Awesome Lawn great advice. Thank you!!! Great video 👏👏👏
Thank you for nice comment!
Great video Kyle! Go Twins!⚾️
Thank you, Randy! The Sox have made this baseball season less than enjoyable...
good video, what's your preferred method for covering the seeds to prevent birds from eating them?
Your doing a good job 👍
What about covering the scene with Pete moss to keep it moist
Good Job man Thanks
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks for the info buddy
Thank you for watching a commenting, Allen!
Great video! My yard looks like shit...working on it though
Thank you! That's how mine started, too. Nothing you can't fix with a little hard work.
When should you mow after dethatching and overseeding?? About 4 weeks?
Yes, that is ideal. Mow at the highest setting then gradually bring it down to the height you want.
Thanks. What do you know about bentgrass? I believe I have to keep spraying tenacity to kill this bentgrass@lakehouselawncare1755
Can I overseed 3 weeks after applying triclophr ester?
Yes you can! It's recommended you wait 3 weeks after the application to seed.
Would seed take if I tilled up dead sod and planted on top of that ?
If the sod isn't rooted, you're better off just pulling all the dead sod out, leveling with some topsoil and starting fresh.
@@lakehouselawncare1755 what if it’s rooted but dead grass?
@MrIowahawks77 then yes, you can just till it or poke holes in it before overseeding.
@@lakehouselawncare1755 would you poke how’s manually or get an aerator ?
Can you over seed dead / SOD?
If the sod is rooted, yes. If it's not, just pull it out, level it with some dirt then seed the area.
@@lakehouselawncare1755 I think the drought just killed most the side I had. I’d have to replace a lot

@@lakehouselawncare1755 yeah my motion sensor sprinkler is me when I see one and then me walking out of my office and spraying them with a hose.
So I have been watering since this last Sunday and with those areas having been waterlogged does that mean that area is trash and can’t be recovered?
Are there any additional steps needed to prep clay soil for overseeding? We've had a pretty dry season here in Wisconsin, and my lawn isn't looking great after dethatching and overseeding
No sir! Just wait for the cooler weather and rain that will come. It seems to be here today near Chicago.
Good Video.😁
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the comment.
Good tips👍
Thank you!
What happens if you put down too much grass seed? I recently put down three times the amount recommended.
What happened ? It's been a week...

@@lakehouselawncare1755 is it Lake House Gun Show? anyways, thanks for another video...glad to see your subscriber count climbing!
If I wait until the brown grass rebounds, then it’s too late to overseed if it is indeed dead. You guys are all the same.
If there are areas that didn't green up and look good in the spring, those are the areas that you need to over seed for sure.
