Looking fwd to seeing this tree again after it bounces back. I'm just getting back into bonsai. I have a couple of azaleas that I've been toying w turning into bonsai. So, this video really resonated. I like your "yadori" instead of "yamadori" concept that you talked about elsewhere: much more sustainable. Thank you for the excellent content. Cheers fr Nova Scotia (Canada).
We had a heatwave recently and a lot of my trees are droopy... Here's hoping they recover! On a side note that Azalea bonsai is gorgeous that trunks' amazing!
My tree garden sits in front of my house you can see it from the road. Ivan spend 6 to 12 hours working in it. I often have people stopping in to look and a lot of them want to buy my plants. They don’t understand the effort that goes into maintaining a garden like this in 90 to 100 degree weather and the constant maintenance I put into my garden to maintain a lush healthy environment. So yes effort has a lot to do with pricing if I do sell a tree or plant. Another great video. There has been many times I’ve been at a big box store and found perfectly fine plants on clearance because of sunburn.
Wow… that’s a premium specimen u got! ✨✨ Luckily, I still have 1 healthy Hino Crimson (kurume) in ground. Used to have 10+ couple years ago… but they all died. 😑 Also still have 4 Tama No Hada (satsuki) in ground. They’re still alive… super slow growing, but super beautiful! Also had 3 other satsuki cultivars. All died. They’re def the most finicky species in SoCal’s arid dry heat.
That is my type of tree, though the base is a bit contrived. Thanks for your pronunciation of Satsuki--my friends insist I say Satz-ki (more like the Japanese pronounce it). Never heard of using rotted oak leaves to elevate acidity . . . thanks! Any particular species of oak?
We have CA coastal Oak tree here everywhere...They are evergreen and the leaves takes a long time to decompose...so Maybe peat moss and perlite is eaiser...The standard Japanese mix using peat and a special fired clay is the tree I bought planted in.
Could you show us this tree in a month or so when it rejuvenates? Love to see an update.
Yes... I will, please stay tuned.
I love the meaning that it is June and when they bloom. I appreciate those little things. Thank you
Yeah!
Most bonsai clubs have show in spring or winter, Clubs focus on azaleas have shows in late may to June.

Nice and informative. I bought my 1st satzuki last week. The guy is definitely a pro in growing these.

Don't fee bad...I have killed many azaleas when I lived in Southern CA. I suspect it is a combination of drying out and hard water.
Thanks for sharing!
I have an azalea growing in an undesirable spot. I think it I’ll be getting dig up over the next few months when the weather cooperates
Good plan!
